Of course, she was strikingly different from Kalina, and even more so from previous projects. There was no longer that laconic modesty inherent in domestic developments; this car attracted attention with its alluring, elegant forms, an abundance of extraordinary design solutions, and an excellent technical component. It was no longer a shame to show such a car to a global audience, which is what they did.

Granta Sport has repeatedly performed at major international competitions, taking prestigious places. This is how AvtoVAZ’s new idea debuted. But, in addition to the undeniable advantages, there are also flaws in Grant. Here and there there are annoying breakdowns, reminding us that we still have a domestic car in front of us, which is not fully thought out and is still far from ideal.

  • 1602, 1606, 1616, 1617 – violation of the rough road sensor readings;

Insufficient oil pressure.

1. Using oil that is not suitable for the engine. Use only oils and specifications recommended by the manufacturer. 2. Oil dilution/foaming as a result of fuel/antifreeze entering the engine crankcase. It is necessary to identify leaks and eliminate them. After this, be sure to replace the oil with a new one, with flushing. 3. Worn oil pump. The oil pump resource is quite long. Its failure is rare. If damaged, replace with a new one. 4. The oil filter is clogged. Replace with a new one, along with an oil change. 5. Damage to the crankcase. Check for external damage to the engine crankcase. It may be damaged by the road surface, which will reduce the gap between the oil receiver and the bottom of the oil sump. 6. Clogged oil channels and lines. Motor repair

A major overhaul of a VAZ 2110 engine means restoring the engine and its components to factory standards. This operation is carried out when the motor has passed its service life and there is exhaustion in the main components.

Due to the fact that the engines have been in use for a long time, some engines are 10-15 years old, a major overhaul is inevitable. So, the combustion chambers have already worn out, and the pistons have burned out from service life and mileage. In addition, engine oil for the VAZ 2110 no longer helps to maintain performance to such an extent.

So, it is worth repairing the power unit at a car service center, especially with regard to the 16-valve engine. The VAZ 2110 8-valve engine is used by most motorists in garage conditions, since it has a simple design that is similar to the Classic and Samara power units.

Transmission

The manual transmission has been modernized more than once. It now has a cable drive, thanks to which the gears are engaged with less effort, and the accuracy of the selection mechanism has increased. This box has the factory index VAZ-2181. But the sound when its gears operate is still too loud. The problem with the second gear synchronizer has not been completely resolved. Poor engagement and rapid wear of the synchronizer, despite numerous upgrades, still occur. As well as oil leaks through the seals. The reason is the low quality of the seals themselves and the insufficient accuracy of the positioning of the seal relative to the shaft. All this fully applies to the VAZ-2182 robotic gearbox, because it was created on the basis of a mechanical one.

In the case of gearbox 2181, the clutch mechanism rarely lasts more than 100,000 km, especially if the car is used in a big city and often sits idle in traffic jams. In robotic gearboxes, the clutch lives even less.

The only truly reliable transmission in the line is a 4-speed automatic from the Japanese company Jatco.

Engine diagnostics

Computer diagnostics of the motor is performed in two ways:

  • using the car’s built-in tools: instrument panel and on-board computer;
  • via the OBD2 connector by connecting the laptop to the scanner.

The first option is described in detail in the Granta operating manual. The second procedure requires a professional approach and understanding of the processes occurring in the vehicle systems both when the engine is running and when the engine is turned off.

For diagnostics, scanners like ELM327 are used. The multifunctional device is capable of identifying problems in the control system, resetting airbag errors, and recognizing faults in the automatic transmission and climate system. The device is connected to the vehicle controller via a high-speed CAN data bus.

Analog devices that are suitable for carrying out a full diagnostic process are:

  • Scanmatic 2;
  • Launch X431 Pro;
  • DELPHI DS150E.

On Granta FL, a self-diagnosis algorithm is integrated into the M74 controller. It identifies the problematic system and displays a “Check Engine” message on the dashboard. The error is then identified and its code is stored in the internal memory.

The UDC is installed on the receiving pipe (Fig. 1.1-06). Its sensitive element is located in the exhaust gas flow. The UDC generates a voltage varying in the range of 50...900 mV. This output voltage depends on the presence or absence of oxygen in the exhaust gases and on the temperature of the UDC sensing element. When the UDC is in a cold state, there is no output signal from the sensor, since in this state its internal electrical resistance is very high - several megohms. As the sensor warms up, the resistance drops and the ability to generate an output signal becomes possible. To operate effectively, the UDC must have a temperature of at least 300°C. For quick warm-up after starting the engine, the UDC is equipped with an internal electric heating element, which is controlled by a controller. The duty cycle of heater control pulse signals (the ratio of the duration of the on state to the pulse repetition period) depends on the temperature of the UDC and the operating mode of the engine.

If the sensor temperature is above 300°C, then at the moment of passing through the stoichiometry point, the sensor output signal switches between low level (50...200 mV) and high level (700...900 mV). A low signal level corresponds to a lean mixture (presence of oxygen), a high signal level corresponds to a rich mixture (no oxygen).
