The VAZ 2112 car is equipped with an alternating current generator, which also has a built-in diode bridge or, more simply, a rectifier. The diode bridge is located either on the generator body or in its cover.

- You can judge whether the generator is faulty if the battery indicator lamp on the instrument panel constantly blinks while the engine is running.
- The battery quickly discharges or, on the contrary, boils away.
- The car headlights are too dim, even though the battery is new and fully charged. In addition, when the engine is running, a characteristic quiet but rattling sound is heard.
- As engine speed increases, the brightness of the headlights changes significantly. For example, when over-gasping, this is also observed with a working generator, but in this case the headlights brighten, but then remain at the same intensity. With a faulty generator, this happens all the time as soon as the speed increases.

- The presence of unfavorable external factors: high temperatures, moisture, salt, road chemicals, dirt, etc.

If the bearings on the generator are worn out, then it begins to howl or hum. In some cases, when the engine is running, the generator begins to whistle in a special way. In these cases, the bearings must be replaced, having inspected their seats in advance.
Which generator bearings are best to choose?

Generator bearings last a long time, but, as mentioned above, they do not last forever. However, if you choose the right bearing manufacturer, their service life can be significantly increased. Two types of bearings are usually installed on the VAZ 2112:
- Front bearing 6302 or 6303.
- Rear bearing 6202 and 6203.
Note. It's worth noting that 6302 and 6202 bearings were used in older generators. As for the new ones, bearings 6303 and 6203 are installed in them.
The price of bearings, as a rule, is not high - 50-150 rubles. Bearings differ in size. So, the rear bearing has an internal diameter of 15 mm, while the front bearing has an internal diameter of 17 mm. As for the outer diameter, it is 35 mm at the rear bearing and 47 mm at the front. The highest quality generator bearings:
- Our domestic bearings produced at the Vologda plant are rightfully considered the best.
- In second place are KOYO bearings.
- In third place is Kraft.
- Bearings produced by ANDYCAR, Czech Republic, are also considered to be quite good, but are much cheaper.

So, the moment of truth has come - the bearings need to be replaced. Let’s finally make sure that these are definitely bearings and not something else. Bearing noise is heard when the car engine is running:
- We stop the engine.
- We remove the generator belt and start the engine again to make sure that the tension roller is not acting up. If the sound remains after removing the belt, then you need to replace the roller, and if the noise disappears, then the problem is definitely in the bearings.
Removing the generator
Let's get started:
- The generator mounting nut is loosened.
- The adjusting bolt is removed.
- The negative terminal of the battery is disconnected.
- The wires are disconnected from the generator.
- The front part of the crankcase protection is dismantled.
- The lower mount of the generator is unscrewed.
- The generator is removed through the bottom.

- We block the generator rotor by unscrewing the pulley. We do this very carefully so as not to damage anything.
- Remove the casing by pulling out the latches.
- We disassemble the brushes and 4 bolts of the generator halves.
- Remove the back cover, first making marks on the two halves.
Note. The back cover can be easily removed with a screwdriver.
- A nut is screwed onto the rotor thread.
Note. The easiest way to remove the rotor from the generator is to grasp the ears of the front cover of the generator with both hands, and then firmly tap the side with the nut on a solid piece of wood.
Direct replacement of bearings
So:
- Now we put a suitable object on the bearing, for example, a 27 socket and knock it out.
- We fill new bearings with grease.
- We hammer it into place using the old bearing.
Note. In order for the new bearing to sit securely in place, you will need to flare its edges using a chisel or core.
- We change the rear bearing. To do this, place a thin chisel or screwdriver under the bearing, and hit it with a hammer on top.
Note. You can also remove the rear bearing in another way, using a large open-end wrench as a lever.
- Again, we insert the new bearing through the head 27 or using a suitable pipe of the required size.
- We begin assembling the generator.
- The front cover is installed first, and then everything is done in reverse order.
The above instructions for replacing bearings with your own hands are unique and fully consistent with practice. It is recommended to use photos and video materials during the process as visual examples. Needless to say, the cost of repairs will be minimal, because you will only need to pay for new bearings and some small items, including the necessary tools.
