Ignition switch wire designations
Look at the diagram shown in the figure.
The above does not mean that both cords can be connected together and connected using the circuits discussed here. The diagrams indicate one wire (ST1) that makes up the starter power circuit. This option is suitable:
- For all domestic cars without exception;
- For new foreign cars;
- For foreign cars up to 90-91 years of manufacture.
This is the paradox - the “ST2” cord is not provided in the new, as well as in the oldest models.
Diagram for TZ-9030
Here's how to connect the Tomahawk TZ-9030 main unit to the ignition switch to use autostart. Of course, after installation, you need to do programming, which is discussed below. If the use of a lineman is required, connect it to the terminal of the main alarm connector (black and red cord). The power connector, in turn, has the following wiring.
If we talk about the Tomahawk TW-9010 model, the purpose of the IGN3 pin will be different from what is being considered here.
In "Chapter 1" the designations were listed: IGN1, IGN2, ACC, starter wire (ST). The “IGN3” cord has been added here, but it replaces the ACC wire. The “blue” cord coming out of the alarm terminal block must be connected to the ACC contact, otherwise the autostart will not work. At the same time, if you make changes to the settings, the IGN3 pin can be connected to the ST2 pin. True, it is not clear how to “emulate” the ACC wire then.
A “T” connection is used when connecting to all wires except the starter. And the “ST” cord needs to be cut to connect the resulting ends with the black and yellow wires. The cable that goes to the alarm from the lock is a signal cable (thin).
Diagram for TW-9010
A non-standard method of switching starter current is typical for the following alarm model: Tomahawk TW-9010. Voltage is supplied here from the 6-pin power terminal block when autostart is performed. The rest of the time, the starter wire conducts current, even if the car alarm does not work or does not work correctly. A blocking relay is included in the gap in the standard wiring. Whether it can be removed from the scheme is unknown. It is better, therefore, to stick to the recommended option.
The conclusion follows from the previous paragraph: autostart is needed - do not remove the blocking relay from the circuit. You can install a “bug” in the socket, but then the appearance of a “current loop” cannot be ruled out. It turns out that the blocking option is “loaded” with autostart.
Note that the Tomahawk TW-9010 and TZ-9030 alarms can control the immobilizer bypass. The lineman’s “negative” cord is connected to the black-red cable (figure at the beginning of the chapter). The latter is designed to be connected to the “IGN3” pin, but in most cars this option is not used.
The ground potential on the black-red cord appears before the starter starts, which is exactly what is required for the lineman to work. In general, everything looks strange: in alarms with auto-start, they often provide a separate output intended only for connecting a lineman.

Antenna module Tomahawk TW 9030
The Tomahawk 9030 car alarm antenna has several important advantages over competitors' analogues. The module is placed in a separate block and is connected to the main processor via a contact connector. The device body is a solid block with protection from moisture and steam, which prevents condensation from settling inside the block. This prevents short circuits and damage.
The increased versatility of the part is explained by the built-in temperature measurement sensor. The sensor displays the real state of the air inside the car and allows the alarm to work adequately in the automatic engine warm-up mode.
A special feature of the antenna with two-way communication is its increased range. Key fobs are able to pick up a signal at a distance of up to 1000 meters from the car. In this case, the maximum range is achieved in conditions where there is no active radio interference or power lines. In practice, in urban conditions, the antenna operates stably within a radius of up to 100-150 meters.
Advantages and disadvantages
The owner is always informed about the condition of the car thanks to the feedback from Tomahawk TV 9030 with a key fob equipped with an LCD display.
Advantages of Tomahawk TV 9030 signaling:
- complete safety of the car in the parking lot and on the move;
- the engine autostart function is indispensable in low temperatures;
- automatic alarm setting;
- the ability to finely program functions to suit the individual needs of the car owner.
The most common shortcomings found in reviews:
- actual range is less than stated;
- when used for a long time without maintenance, it may “glitch”;
- Autostart does not always work.
Tomahawk 9030: operating instructions for alarm with auto start, watch
The Tomahawk 9030 security system user manual is an integral part of the alarm system. The factory manual contains information on how to operate and maintain the device.
In fact, the instructions have a complete description and sequence of actions for installing, configuring modules and repairing them. There is a manufacturer's passport in the factory box, but when purchasing a car with an already installed alarm system, the end user in 90% of cases does not receive the documentation. On our website you can download instructions in PDF format for free, and also read them online.
Connection in vehicles with "ST2"
Let’s say that voltage appears simultaneously at the starter contacts “ST1” and “ST2”. Then the alarm installation diagram can be modified.
The break in the “ST2” wire coming from the lock contains normally closed relay contacts. In theory, the standard wiring of the “ST2” circuit is not broken here. But when a positive potential appears on contact “ST1”, such potential will also appear on “ST2”.
If the voltage should appear at contact “ST2” later than at “ST1”, you need to install a relay with a delay. But this option is not recommended. But the IGN3 output, provided in the TZ-9030 car alarm, can “emulate” the “ST2” contact in any car. You need to be able to configure the option correctly, and then the following connection option will become possible:
- IGN1 signaling –> IGN1 auto;
- IGN2 –> ACC (if IGN2 is not present in the car itself);
- IGN3 –> relay winding connected to the ST2 gap.
We hope everything is clear here.
There are models of devices with auto-start, where connection to two starter lines is provided initially. However, it turns out that there is no such alarm in the Tomahawk equipment line.
Setting up the Tomahawk 9030 alarm: how to enter programming mode
After installing the security system, the alarm unit needs to be configured. The procedure is performed exclusively in module programming mode. Entering the settings is carried out in a simple sequence:

How to remove parking mode
On vehicles with a manual transmission, the parking mode is set by raising the handbrake. This action is required when activating remote engine start and other alarm capabilities. To disable this mode, simply lower the lever to the off position.
On an automatic transmission, the modules of the complex are connected to the drive units and independently activate the parking mode when the gearbox lever is on o.
Engine starting
Remote engine start (silence)
Press button No. 4 “Key” until the key fob emits a melodic trill (the LED on the additional key fob turns green). Immediately (within 3 seconds) press button No. 4 “Key” again. The system will close the doors and start the engine. The LED will remain on continuously and the parking lights will flash (if programmed to do so when installing the alarm). We perform remote engine shutdown in the same sequence.
REFERENCE: Remote engine start is not possible if the hood is open, the handbrake is off, the ignition is on, in Valet mode, or if the lever is not in neutral.
Automatic hourly engine start
Press and hold button No. 4 “Key” until the key fob emits a melodic trill (the LED on the additional key fob lights up green). Immediately after this, press button No. 5 “Lock”. The system will notify you that the mode is turned on with two LED flashes, and the inscription “2-1 DAILY” will appear on the LCD display. Once the function is activated, the system will start the engine every ½/4/24 hours. The autostart interval is programmed when the alarm is installed.
Automatic engine start at a given temperature
Press button No. 5 “Lock” until the sound signal (the LED on the additional key fob lights up green). Immediately press button No. 4 “Key” - the inscription “1-2 TEMP START” will appear on the key fob display and the temperature value at which the engine will start (programmable parameter) will be displayed. As soon as the temperature reaches the set point, the system will start the engine to warm up. The engine warm-up time is additionally programmed.
Adjusting the shock sensor
This element of the Tomahawk 9030 car alarm is a complex module with two-level protection against attempts to break into the car. The unit is made in a plastic case and is extremely sensitive, which, if configured incorrectly, can cause false alarms and discomfort for the driver.
To enable calibration, the system is equipped with two plastic adjustments for a flat-head screwdriver. The sequence of steps for setting up is as follows:
- unscrew the warning and alarm shock sensor knobs to the minimum (counterclockwise);
- calibration starts from zone 1;
- open the car doors and turn on the standard security mode;
- turn the adjustment 0.4 turns, simultaneously tapping on the car body;
- When the optimal effect is achieved, finish setting and move on to the next zone.
How to make a Tomahawk 9030 flip key
The factory alarm kit contains two key fobs. Both remote controls are not designed for installation of an ignition key, which does not suit some users. To modify the device, you will need to perform the following steps.
- Buy a dummy remote control (case) with a compartment for installing the ignition key on the Internet.
- Completely disassemble the body of a standard pager and remove the filling from it.
- Disassemble the compartment of the new case responsible for the switch key.
- Fit the blade of the key to the tuning key fob mount.

- act according to the programming table.
The system exits service mode on its own. To do this, you need to leave the key fob alone for 6-7 seconds.
Video
In the video you can see a review of the Tomahawk signaling model TW-9030. Filmed by the Auto Racer channel.
Very often, when connecting a car alarm on their own, they make mistakes when connecting the car’s ignition wires. If the owner does not need autostart, it is easier not to touch the ignition switch contacts. But sooner or later, the autostart option may be required, and then you need to correctly determine which contacts come from the standard lock block. Next we look at how to connect the Tomahawk TZ-9030 and TW-9010 alarms to these contacts. The difference is that the second model is equipped with a blocking relay. How to configure the autorun option is also discussed.
Alarm Tomahawk TW 9030: malfunctions, why it doesn’t work
There can be several reasons why the Tomahawk 9030 fails, and depending on the source of the problem, repairs are performed.
- Mechanical damage. Impacts and physical impacts may disrupt the operation of the internal parts of blocks and modules. Standard microcircuits are extremely sensitive to physical influences and are easily deformed. The problem is solved by replacing the modules with known good ones.
- Moisture getting into the internal parts of the modules. The system is equipped with drip protection against water ingress, which guarantees sufficient durability and reliability of the Tomahawk TW 9030. Typically, the problem can be identified after an unsuccessful wash - the modules are flooded with water, which impairs their performance. To correct the situation, it is often enough to thoroughly dry the boards, first disconnecting them from the voltage.
- Presence of software errors. During long-term operation of the security system, glitches and malfunctions may appear in the software. You can fix the problem by completely rebooting the device by disconnecting it from the power supply.
- Broken key fobs. Remote controls fail when they get wet or dropped. Typically, devices cannot be repaired and must be replaced with new ones.
- Low battery. For head modules, it is enough to charge or replace the battery. The batteries on pagers are replaced.
Tomahawk 9030: no feedback, what to do
If the key fob of the security complex does not respond to pressing, there may be several reasons.
- The cable between the head module and the antenna has come loose. Also, with careless installation, there is a possibility of damage to the wiring or rupture of individual wires. The next factor is the oxidation of contacts. To fix the problem, you can clean the terminals from oxides and replace the power cable.
- Directly the antenna module. The block may leak or accumulate condensation, which becomes a direct cause of short circuit or oxidation. Usually the problem is resolved by replacing the part.
- Malfunction of the key fob. The remote transmitter may be damaged if it gets hit or gets wet. To repair the system, you must replace the remote control with a known good (new) one.
- Problems in the head module. This happens after an unsuccessful wash or physical shock. Inside the box, part of the circuit responsible for transmitting the signal to the key fob fails. The defect can only be corrected by qualified service or by replacement.
The signaling unit is glitchy
The next malfunction is that the Tomahawk TW 9030 control unit does not respond correctly to user manipulations or refuses to obey commands. Among the malfunctions, owners identify the following.
- Lack of response to the driver’s manipulations. This is observed when there is a failure in the part responsible for processing the key fob signal.
- Spontaneous activation or deactivation of security system modes. There is a software glitch in the built-in data package. Firmware failure occurs after critical voltage drops or strong electromagnetic influence.
- There are operation indicators, but no response. This can be caused by a factory malfunction or voltage drop.
If the control unit exhibits critical breakdowns or an incorrect response to user manipulations, it can be taken to a specialized workshop or a new module can be installed. In case of serious breakdowns, users rarely undertake restoration; they simply install another unit.
Starts then stalls
In some cases, buyers of the complex complain that when autostart is activated by time or temperature, the car starts and stalls after a short time. If you have this problem, you should look at the programmable settings.
- When activating timed autostart, the crankshaft revolution counter or oil pressure level may be set incorrectly. When connecting the alarm to the oil pressure sensor, you can move the contacts to the crankshaft sensor and adjust the response duration.
- If this happens during autostart based on engine temperature, there is a possibility that the temperature sensor settings have failed or it is not installed correctly. Replacing the sensor or calibrating it helps.
Tomahawk TV 9030 does not close the doors
If the device does not operate correctly when a pulse is given to close the doors, you will need to check the factors.
- Test the operation of the central lock and peripheral elements. It is also recommended to diagnose the equipment wiring. Often the cause of failure is the mechanical part of the device.
- Correct operation of the antenna module and key fobs. Minor failures can trigger a similar problem.
- The command is configured correctly. Accidental manipulations by the user on an unlocked remote control may disrupt the operation of the system.
Also, in exceptional cases, there is a malfunction in the operation of the head module or an incorrect sequence of commands from the remote pager.
Doesn't open doors
If the Tomahawk TW 9030 does not respond correctly to the door unlocking command, the reasons may be similar to those for closing the locks. This includes:
- damage to the central lock and its elements;
- violation of the integrity of the wiring and oxidation of contacts;
- lack of antenna signal;
- damage to the key fob;
- The operation of the complex in the programming table is incorrectly configured.
No sound
If the alarm does not produce warning sounds, the malfunction is hidden in the following factors.
- Silent security mode is enabled. In this position, the machine will not make a sound, notifying the user only with a light indication.
- The sound on the key fob is turned off - just turn off the vibration mode.
- The horn connected as a siren does not work. It is necessary to check the correct connection and functionality of the module.
- The wiring is damaged or the contacts are oxidized. In this case, you will need to clean the terminals from oxides and replace the module power cable.
Troubleshooting common problems
The remote control uses batteries to operate the transmitting unit and receiver. When the element is discharged or the contacts are oxidized, the range of the device is reduced. To replace the battery, you need to open the cover; the new part is mounted taking into account the polarity. If the key fob falls into water, you must turn off the power and then disassemble the case to remove traces of moisture. Using the device without drying it will lead to corrosion of the printed circuit boards and loss of functionality.
Incorrect operation of the components of the security system occurs when the insulating layer on the switching harnesses is damaged or condensation gets inside the electronic units. It is recommended to check the cables for short circuits using a test device; The central block is removed and dried. Detected traces of corrosion are removed with a soft cloth. If you cannot repair the damage yourself, you must contact a service center to diagnose the Tomahawk complex.
