Even if you monitor the battery charge in the key fob, you may be faced with the need to open the car when the key fob is dead at the end of the working day, the spare one is at home, and it’s minus thirty outside, and you don’t want to look for a store with batteries at all. Inexpensive alarm systems have even more reasons to “hack” your own car: the security system may simply not respond to commands in a supermarket parking lot due to the use of broadband transmission on the already overloaded frequency of 433 MHz. Radio module failures and other technical problems cannot be ruled out.
How to unlock Tomahawk 10.1
In this family of alarms, the emergency shutdown procedure is primitive. All that is required to disarm the car is to open the door with the key and quickly turn on the ignition (the pause should be no more than 20 seconds). Next, find the Override button (analogous to the “Valet” button on the Starline alarm system) and press it 4 times, then turn off the ignition. The system will disable the security, and you can safely turn on the ignition again and start the engine.
The only barrier protecting the car from theft on the Tomahawk 10.1 is the secret installation of the Override button. If the thief finds it, the car may be considered stolen.
Therefore, when installing alarms of this type, it is necessary to either install a “secret” button as secretly and unconventionally as possible, or use additional measures to disguise it. At the same time, the central block must prevent quick removal, otherwise it will be possible to close the contacts directly on it.

However, the system has introduced the ability to withdraw using a personal PIN code, which must be turned on during installation or by the owner of the car. To activate PIN code protection, you need to:
- Disarm the car.
- With the ignition off, press the Override button five times.
- Turn on the ignition.
- After listening to the siren signals, press the Override button 4 times (security function 4 is selected).
- Press the "disarm", "trunk" or "mute" button on the key fob to set a two-digit, three-digit or four-digit PIN code.
- Turn off the ignition.
Now set a new code. The numbers in it take values from 1 to 9, that is, there are 81 two-digit codes, 729 three-digit codes and 6561 four-digit codes - a total of 7371 possible options, and the hijacker does not know in advance how many characters are in the code. The procedure for entering a PIN code is simple:
- Press Override 4 times with the ignition off;
- turn on the ignition and press the same Override button again;
- using button 1 of the key fob, enter the first digit of the code (each press the value of this digit increases by 1);
- using button 2, similarly, enter the second digit, button 3, if necessary, the third, and 4, the fourth;
- turn off the ignition.

The process of entering the code is convenient to control: the current value is displayed on the key fob screen.
If a PIN code is configured, then to disable it, after opening the door, turn on the ignition and enter Override the first digit of the code (for example, seven presses for number 7), then turn off the ignition. Next, enter the second digit of the code in the same way, turn off the ignition and repeat the same steps for the 3rd and 4th digits, if the appropriate code length is set. After entering the last digit, the car will be disarmed.

Therefore, it is worth thinking about cheaper ways to protect the car if financial issues become the main reason for purchasing a budget alarm system - install a “secret” toggle switch for blocking important engine circuits, repin the OBD connector to make it more difficult to disable the car’s standard immobilizer, and so on. Taken together, these simple measures can already protect the car, especially since there is no point for a thief to bother with inexpensive cars for a long time; you can try to steal one of the many of the same type.

- The inability to reprogram key fobs is a clear sign of a failure of the alarm antenna unit. If the commands are recognized normally (in many cases, the operation of the built-in alarm relays can be simply heard), the fuses of the central locking lines are checked, the presence of constant power and ground on the power relays, as well as the absence of breaks in that part of the circuit where it is not yet connected to separate branches in the door.

Repair of defective twists
A common reason for the alarm to not work correctly is poor-quality twists that oxidize over time. Having opened the insulating tape, it is necessary to unwind the twist and clean the oxidized wires.
If necessary, after stripping the wires to a greater length, restore the twist and solder it with acid-free flux. The simplest option is regular rosin.
The reason for the destruction of the twist may be the insufficient length of the movable harnesses, for example, the door harness, which is excessively stretched when the door is fully opened.
In this case, the harness assembled by the alarm installer is completely disconnected, and all its wires are extended to an equal length. The junctions of the harness with the extension sections are also soldered and protected with heat-shrinkable cambric.
De-energizing the security system
This method is used on older versions of security systems. In modern alarm systems, turning off the power still does not provide access to the car interior. And to open the hood you need to get inside the car.
The instruction manual does not contain instructions on how to de-energize the anti-theft device. You should not do this yourself.
Remote engine start
To remotely start the engine, you need to press button No. 4 (key) - the car will respond with a triple flash of parking lights and three siren signals. One of the messages will appear on the display:

- 5P – attempt to start the engine failed;

The car engine will run for a pre-programmed time (5/10/15/20 minutes) and then turn off. To extend the operating time, you need to simultaneously press buttons No. 4 (key) and No. 5 (lock). Each subsequent press of these buttons increases the engine warm-up time by 5 minutes. The key fob display will show the value of the programmed engine operating time.
The car engine cannot be started remotely if:
- ignition on;
- the hood is open;
- The gear lever is not set to neutral;
- the car's handbrake is not on;
- Valet mode activated;
- On a car with a manual transmission, preparation for remote engine start has not been completed.
In any of the listed cases (except for Valet), when you try to remotely start the car, 4 alarm sounds will sound.
