The first UAZ Patriot car appeared in 2005, and then was constantly produced in series, including limited ones.
These special cars often had changes not in build, but only in appearance, since they were timed to coincide with a specific event. Accordingly, the rims and wheels remain the same in terms of the required characteristics, so they are suitable for many Patriot models.
Engineers of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant presented several basic configurations of UAZ vehicles.
Depending on the specific model, wheels on the UAZ Patriot differ in type, size and required quality characteristics. All parameters are important in operation, since they are used not only for civilian but also for military purposes in various countries.
If we talk about civilian cars, they have several basic configurations. The UAZ Patriot on diesel fuel was produced from 2008 to 2012 and is a modification with imported parts. Next we should highlight several of the most popular configurations of the UAZ Patriot:
- Cargo is used as a commercial pickup truck with an extended wheelbase of up to 3000 mm. Shown in the photo below.
- Pickups have been produced since 2008 in 4-seater or 5-seater versions.
- Sport is another modification with a very short wheelbase - 2400mm.
- The Pro is also a commercial pickup truck with a wheelbase of up to 3500 mm.
Military versions of the UAZ Patriot are produced for both police officers and army bases. Depending on the need, they have armored elements and large space for various bulk luggage.
There were several configurations of the UAZ Patriot, depending on the body type - an SUV with 9 seats, a pickup truck with 5 seats, and vans with 5 or 2 seats. All of them are created on the “Siberia” platform, the main changes in which are the track of both front and rear wheels widened to 16 cm. Due to the fact that the manufacturing plant constantly cooperates with other concerns, the UAZ Patriot can be called a truly reliable domestically produced car.
All modifications of the UAZ Patriot are all-wheel drive. The front brakes are disc, with two cylinders and a floating caliper. The rear brakes are drum brakes and have only one cylinder. The Patriot's suspension is of a dependent type, one of them is spring, and the other is located on two springs.
Tread types by purpose
In addition to the pattern, there is also a division by tread type. It is worth understanding this diversity separately. First of all, it is necessary to mention friction and studded tires.
- Friction tires achieve optimal grip due to the tread structure, additional elements and rubber composition. At the same time, the tread pattern of winter tires of this type may vary.
- Studded tires work by having metal studs in the tread. They do an excellent job in situations where there is ice or snow in front of you. There are restrictions on operation in some conditions.
In addition, friction tires are divided into the following types.
- European winter tire treads have a shallow tread pattern. Visually resembles a rain tire. There are practically no lamellas. Such rubber practically does not stud. Used for warm climates with a lot of thaws.
- Scandinavian protector. Here the depth of the pattern is quite large, often reaching 10 mm, and sometimes more. Thanks to the presence of lamellas, it copes well with snow and ice. The composition of the rubber mixture allows the tires not to freeze in almost any frost. Often they are additionally studded, or have sockets for additional studding.
Useful video
If you plan to perform deep tuning, it is recommended to install disks with beadlocks, since in this case it is possible to lower them to 0.5 atmospheres. This is true when combining rubber with a large tread from companies such as Fedima, Simex, Interco and others.
UAZ Patriot is a fairly popular car in almost all regions of Russia. This model is an excellent alternative to other domestic SUVs, and sometimes even surpasses its analogues in terms of comfort or cross-country ability.
The Patriot shows high performance qualities, allowing it to overcome any type of road surface - however, in addition to the powerful engine and ergonomic suspension of the car, the wheels, which are often incorrectly selected, are also responsible for cross-country ability.

What wheel sizes does the manufacturer recommend to install?
The UAZ Patriot I Restyling 2015 2.7i is equipped with 6.5Jx16 ET40 rims assembled with 225/75 R16 102S tires as standard. Where:
- 6.5J - rim width in inches;
- 16″ — tire diameter in inches;
- ET40 - disc offset in millimeters.
The vehicle tire marking 225/75 R16 is deciphered as follows:
- 225 — profile width (cross section of the tire) in millimeters;
- 75 — profile height as a percentage of its width;
- R - radial cord winding;
- 16 is the tire diameter in inches.
In addition, information about its load capacity and speed parameters can be printed on the rubber - load index and speed index. The load index is a two- or three-digit number; the speed index is indicated in Latin letters, for example 102S:
- 102 - maximum permissible tire load 850 kg;
- S — maximum permissible vehicle speed is 180 km/h.
Using the recommended tire sizes will help you avoid problems with handling, safety and other difficulties. What non-standard sizes can be supplied? Refer to the table; it indicates possible acceptable alternative sizes for tuning. Although there are other options that we have not described in the table. For example, wider discs of the same diameter. Or install wheels of the same width, but with a larger diameter, which is quite popular among car owners. The choice of discs is huge; you can find copies with the same parameters, but with an overhang 1-2 millimeters more or less. It is not possible to list all the options.
At the same time, the bolt pattern for all types of wheels is the same - 5 × 139.7. Thus, all the disks are fastened with five bolts and the distance between them is exactly one hundred and thirty-nine point and 70 hundredths millimeters. The diameter of the car's hub is 108 mm.
Standard tire pressure is 2/2.4 MPa.

UAZ "Hunter" has R16 wheels and the following dimensions:
- Rim width - 6.5J, inches.
- Reach - ET 40 mm.
- The diameter of the central hole is CO 108.6 millimeters.
The UAZ “Patriot” model is equipped with R16 wheels with the following dimensions:
Patriot car
- Rim width - 7.0J, inches.
- Reach - ET 35 mm.
- The diameter of the central hole is CO 110.1 millimeters.
The exact bolt pattern value for UAZ 469 wheels, as well as other models, will allow you to select and install suitable wheel rims for the SUV and operate it without problems.
Parameters and characteristics of disks on UAZ
The basic configuration of the car is equipped with a stamped wheel measuring 6.5×16 ET40. The body of the discs has holes that reduce the weight of the part and provide ventilation for the brake mechanisms. The outer surface is covered with a special impact-resistant enamel that prevents corrosion of the material.
Since 2015, an updated version of the car, equipped with original aluminum alloy wheels, has entered the production line. The manufacturer uses a single wheel size of 7.0Jx18ET35 and installs standard 245/60 tires. By increasing the diameter of the disk and lowering the tire profile, it was possible to improve the car's behavior in urban conditions, but the off-road parameters of the car decreased.

Tread pattern
Let's take a closer look at the types of drawings.
Symmetrical omnidirectional
Colloquially called simply symmetrical, this pattern is usually included in the basic configuration of most budget cars, and is also used for commercial vehicle tires and all-purpose tires. The main advantage of this type of pattern is that when installing it, you do not need to take into account the rotation of the tire and the side of the wheel.
Symmetrical directional
Previously, this was the main type of pattern for summer tires, but now it is often used for winter tires. It is characterized by a V-shaped (like a herringbone) pattern structure. Thanks to this, an effective system of drainage channels and a sufficient number of edges for adhesion are formed.
Their main advantage is excellent resistance to aquaplaning, which is especially important for driving on wet roads. Wide grooves provide better water drainage
On dry surfaces they provide excellent stability. Tires with this pattern must be placed in accordance with the arrow marked on the side of the tire.
Asymmetrical omnidirectional
This is the most common pattern for summer. Its peculiarity is that the right side of the tread is not identical to the other. When installing, you need to align the front side of the tire with the outside of the rim.
Asymmetrical directional
This type of pattern combines directionality and asymmetry, so during installation, not only the direction of rotation is taken into account, but also the requirement for matching the front sides of the disk and the tire. Tires of this type are divided into right and left. They are used exclusively in sports competitions.
What depends on the tread pattern
Despite numerous attempts by tire manufacturers, they have not yet managed to create truly universal tires that would be able to outperform other tires in all characteristics. They admit that it is virtually impossible to do this.
To satisfy the needs of motorists, tire manufacturers offer several lines of their products and a huge selection of models that are designed for certain operating conditions. This allows you to select tires by:
- vehicle parameters;
- the type and quality of the surface on which the car will drive;
- season and weather factors.
The most important division is the production of summer and winter tires. There are also all-season tires, but they are not in great demand because they actually cannot fully satisfy the requirements for summer and winter tires at the same time. Although in regions with a mild climate and warm winters they can be used.
When choosing tires with a specific tire tread pattern, it is important to understand what exactly it will affect. The quality and reliability of the product mainly depends on the design of the frame used
At the same time, you can notice how the characteristics of the tread pattern of passenger car tires differ from each other. Equipping a car with one type of slats or another gives the car some advantages. You should take a closer look at the types of drawings to understand how they differ and what advantages they provide in a given situation.
Do not underestimate the importance of a correctly calibrated and applied tread pattern, since the following parameters depend on it:
- grip quality;
- ability to walk on different surfaces;
- car controllability;
- speed characteristics and maximum speed;
- noise level;
- comfort.
The concept of universality does not apply to tire tread patterns. They are not able to simultaneously perform several opposing functions. That is, you should not expect from one model the ability to develop high speeds on smooth, dry asphalt, and at the same time excellently pass through difficult off-road conditions. Each such purpose requires an appropriate type of tread.
Wear
Each tire has a minimum and maximum wear limit.
It is important to take into account the permissible parameter for the loss of running characteristics of tires in order to change the set in time
If the machine is operated correctly, no emergency situations arise, the service life of the rubber will depend only on the degree of tread wear.
There are several basic meanings:
- for trucks, the residual size of the pattern is 1 mm;
- for buses this value reaches 2 mm;
- for passenger cars the limit will be 1.6 mm.
The latter indicator was considered the wear norm for all summer tires. Today this is also true, although on light wheels the tread can reach 1 mm, which is the wear limit.
Considering the availability of summer and wide-profile tires, this value is small, because with such a size the wheels will not be able to behave normally on wet surfaces. Therefore, experts consider the following figures to be relevant, which motorists must rely on:
- summer tires must be replaced when the remaining tread depth is 2 mm;
- if these are wide-profile wheels, then the limit will be 3 mm.
Winter tires initially have a minimum tread size of 9-12 mm depth. Therefore, their wear limit is 4-6 mm.
It is important to note that many modern manufacturers use different indicators and methods to notify drivers that the minimum tread depth has been reached and the tires must be replaced. The indication method can be different, so read about tires in advance or ask the seller about the availability of such elements
You shouldn’t choose tires based only on photos and rely on customer reviews. Each tire has its own characteristics, and all cars have special requirements for tire sizes and parameters. That is, the same 8.25R16 Triangle is not suitable for everyone, despite its excellent characteristics.
Select the correct tire size and tread pattern. Don't wait until road conditions are unsuitable for your tires. Take your car jack and change a set of tires on your car.
Pattern plays a big role in the comfort, handling, safety and maneuverability of your vehicle.

General concept
Each car has its own wheel configuration, so an individual approach to choice is required when taking into account such technical parameters. Otherwise, safety and driving comfort will decrease, since the wheels and tire assembly are responsible for the vehicle’s maneuverability and its ability to “keep moving.” At the moment, there is a standard marking used for cast and stamped wheels, so the buyer does not feel any difficulties when choosing. Marking is designations that include the following indicators:
- Bolt pattern marker.
- Wheel width in inches.
- Disc offset in millimeters.
Not everyone knows what a bolt pattern is. The lack of technological relationships between the bolt pattern and the type and number of bolts used is a direct violation of the fastening strength, which is why you can encounter many difficulties when driving a car, including causing an accident. Therefore, each parameter from the labeling must be considered individually.
Disc offset is the distance from where the disc contacts the hub to the center mounting hole located closer to the width of the disc. There are three types:
- Positive.
- Negative.
- Zero when two planes coincide in size.
The manufacturer precisely regulates such parameters, so reliable subsequent use is ensured. Due to the fact that the disc offset is associated with the kinetic parameters of the car’s suspension, standard parameters can be changed by no more than 5 millimeters.
Additional information is provided in the picture so that you can clearly see the parameters written on the disk. A detailed consideration allows you to avoid difficulties when choosing, since the comfort of driving a car, safety and even its appearance depend on it.
Winter tire tread - what is it, what does it consist of?
By tire tread we mean a protective layer of rubber on the surface of the profile, which has a certain pattern. It allows you to achieve an optimal contact patch with the road. In general, the protector has three main functions:
- protection from damage;
- drainage of water from under the wheel;
- ensuring normal traction on slippery surfaces.
The protector consists of several elements.
- Edge. This is the central part of the tread. Present on summer, rain and winter European tires. May not be available on Scandinavian and off-road tires.
- Tread block (checkers). The main element of the pattern provides traction. This is where the spikes are attached.
- Cutting (lamellas). Small cuts on the surface of the “checkers”. Responsible for improving grip.
- Gutter Circular groove. Usually located in pairs, on either side of the rib. On some tires with an aggressive pattern it may be absent.
- Grooves. Recesses separating tread blocks.
- Shoulder. Blocks located at the very edge of the profile. In winter, on snowy roads, it is better to use tires with well-developed shoulder blocks.
Installation diagram of winter tires depending on tread
Their efficiency and safety largely depend on the correct installation of tires. Here you need to take into account the features of the tread. Let's list the main nuances.
- You can install symmetrical non-directional tires in any way you like without restrictions. You can choose any tire and replace it with each other.
- Symmetrical and directional tires. Installed according to the direction indicated by the arrow and the inscription ROTATION.
- Asymmetrical non-directional tires must be installed according to the signs on the outside - outside, on the inside - inside. The direction of movement does not matter.
- The most demanding to install are asymmetric directional tires. They must be placed taking into account the direction of movement and compliance with the sides (internal/external).
Tire tread - what is it? What elements does the tread of a summer tire consist of?
The tread of a car tire is the surface layer of a profile that has a specific pattern. The main task of the tread is to provide optimal traction. This allows for a higher degree of controllability.
- Edge. Located in the central part of the profile. Divides the tread into two halves. On some models it is not expressed.
- Tread block (checkers). On summer tires it is usually done in the form of long stripes between the grooves. The checkers themselves are used only on mud tires.
- Cutting (lamellas). Not used on summer tires.
- Gutter or circular groove. It is done along the entire perimeter of the wheel, most often located along the edges of the rib. In practice, there may be more than two grooves, especially on high-speed tires.
- Grooves. Separate the tread blocks. On summer tires they also perform the function of draining water from the contact patch.
- Shoulder. These are blocks placed along the edges of the profile. On summer tires they are small or practically absent.

What wheels were installed on different bodies and configurations?
Depending on the configuration, various tires and wheels were installed on the UAZ Patriot. The table shows the sizes of the rims and corresponding tires that were installed on the vehicle, as well as the engine size and the type of fuel used.

Accordingly, it is important to understand that only a few tire and wheel options are suitable for different configurations. This greatly simplifies the search for car owners to find a suitable option if a replacement is needed.
Depending on the configuration and purpose of the vehicle (civilian or military), certain disks are selected that will be directly aimed at performing certain tasks.
Disc sizes vary in several sizes: from R16 to R18. The bolt pattern does not change - 5x139.7, offset - 35 mm, central hole diameter - 108 mm, regardless of the configuration. Fastening to the hubs is carried out using standard nuts with thread parameters - M14x1.5.
Tread. Why do we need him
The tread height and pattern may vary. This is not a simple, chaotically invented scheme. Each line and recess has its own subtleties and features.
Experts conduct many trials and tests to determine the optimal ratio, number, size of recesses, their location and other nuances.
All this is necessary to create the most effective traction of the vehicle with the road surface. You yourself understand perfectly well that ideal roads are a dream that will never become a reality. Ideal conditions cannot exist. Therefore, car wheels must cope with asphalt, soil, dry and wet surfaces, puddles, snowdrifts and ice crusts on the road.
The correct pattern protects tires from mechanical damage. For better protection against side impacts and defects, it is better to use bias tires. Their threads are located diagonally, overlapping from side to side.
The radial version of the tire has cords that do not intersect, but are arranged radially, that is, directed from bead to bead. Such kits can be tubeless. Although they cope better with radial loads, they cost more and are characterized by high lateral elasticity.
Among the diagonal and radial ones, the first option is more suitable in our operating conditions. It is better adapted to axle loads and can withstand long-term use on less than ideal roads.
If you choose the right type of tread pattern for your car, the car will receive:
- good directional stability;
- effective controllability;
- high-quality braking;
- quick response to steering wheel movements.
If the wheels are incorrectly selected, all this is reduced, you greatly lose control of the car and risk getting into serious trouble.
Here, as in the case of an incorrectly selected antifreeze, which may turn out to be useless in certain conditions.
UAZ Patriot lift for 33 wheels
To improve cross-country ability, it is practiced to install tires of size 285/75, which are mounted on steel or alloy wheels with a radius of R16. The resulting assembly has a diameter of 33″ (unloaded), but the suspension will need to be modified to install the elements on the car. Without increasing rigidity and increasing ground clearance, the rims and tires will not fit in the wheel arches. Protective shields (bushwhackers) are mounted on the outer side of the SUV's fender, protecting the side panels of the vehicle from dirt flying from under the wheels.
Redesigning a car for Off Road wheels with zero offset consists of the following steps:
- Remove the standard wheels, and then carefully cut off part of the outer surface of the front disc brake calipers. To remove excess metal, a grinding machine is used; to check the results of the work, it is necessary to install the disk on the hub. Before starting work, it is recommended to install new pads, since the thickness of the metal to be removed depends on the thickness of the friction lining.
- Trim the lower edge of the front bumper, which will allow the wheels to turn and move within the travel range of the front suspension.
- An additional spacer is installed under the rear spring. To increase the clearance and increase the rigidity of the suspension, an additional main leaf is inserted into the spring. The springs themselves are mounted on elongated earrings, borrowed from light-duty trucks from the GAZ plant.
- It is necessary to install springs in the front suspension that provide an increase in clearance by 50 mm (when loaded). To ensure the operation of the suspension, an additional shock absorber is introduced into the design, borrowed from GAZ passenger cars. Both elements provide the same stroke in compression and tension; additional support platforms are introduced into the machine design to secure the parts.
Another way to install 33″ wheels on a Patriot is to use R15 size wheels. Due to the reduction in the internal size of the disc, it will be necessary to sharpen the brake calipers and increase the gap between the body and frame (body lift). To increase the gap, special caprolactane cushions are used, which are installed one by one on the fastening bolts.
An additional problem when lifting the body will be the transfer gear control lever. The configuration of the handle is selected according to the installation location; the lever should not touch the body tunnel and ensure gearbox speed switching. Due to changes in the relative position of the body and frame, it will be necessary to move the mounting points of the rear bumper and adjust the position of the body stops. On some vehicles, it is necessary to modify the upper radiator mount, install extended pipes for supplying coolant, and adjust the length of the electrical wiring harnesses.
How to choose disks
When selecting disks, you should take into account the size of the parts and the amount of overhang. When using parts of the R16-17 standard, the offset ranges from 2 to 35 mm. An additional increase in the reach leads to dirt being thrown onto the side of the body when driving and an increase in the load on the wheel bearings (with a simultaneous deterioration in handling). Wheels of increased diameter must have an offset of 35 mm; it is not recommended to use products for tires wider than 265 mm (without a body lift and suspension).
Dimensions of Kalahari disks
The Kalahari cast disc is produced by K&K; the design of the part has 5 beams. Each consists of 2 side supports and a central window with 3 corners and rounded edges. The product comes in 2 modifications, differing in coating color (standard silver or dark platinum). The disk has a size of 7.5 * 16, the central mounting points are located on a circle measuring 139.7 mm. The wheels are suitable for all Patriot SUVs (standard and Sport versions).
Disk “Kalahari”.
Dimensions of Talisman-Mega discs
Wheels “Talisman-Mega” have a simplified design; 5 spokes are used in the design. Inside each there is a recess, painted black or silver (depending on the modification). The manufacturer offers 2 types of discs - black diamond and dark platinum (they differ only in color).
The landing dimensions are identical to the Kalahari products; the products differ in the reach (35 and 2 mm, respectively). The wheels are suitable for any Patriot car (regardless of the date of assembly).
All-season tires 245 75 R16 for UAZ Patriot
Universal tires allow you to drive on highways and off-road in summer and winter. The tires use a specially configured tread that automatically removes dirt and snow from the pattern; self-cleaning of the tire increases the vehicle's cross-country ability. But when driving for a long time on paved roads, intensive wear of the rubber occurs. An additional disadvantage is the deterioration of vehicle controllability when driving on the highway at speeds above 80 km/h.
Popular universal tires of size 245/75R16 for Patriot cars:
- Mud Terrain T/A KM2, manufactured by the American company BF Goodrich. The tire is designed for mixed driving with predominant use in off-road conditions (from 80% of the mileage). The tire has a symmetrical pattern made up of large blocks; the peripheral elements are equipped with cutting edges that improve traction. The tire carcass is built on the basis of a 3-layer synthetic cord and a 2-layer steel belt. The sidewall of the tire is reinforced, which reduces the risk of cuts.
- South Korean Road Venture M/T KL71 tires, manufactured at the factories of Kumho and Marshal companies. The tires are designed to travel at speeds of up to 160 km/h; the symmetrical directional tread automatically cleans itself of dirt.
- The General Tire Grabber X3, introduced in 2016, is designed to handle wet mud. The tread design uses side protective beads that reduce the risk of stones getting stuck and the treadmill being damaged by sharp edges of stone fragments. The tire design uses an asymmetrical tread pattern, which reduces noise when driving on highways, and a 3-layer carcass is introduced to increase strength. The tire is recommended for summer use; driving in winter is allowed.
- American mud tires Cooper Discoverer STT and STT Pro, equipped with an original frame consisting of 3 layers. The frame protects the tire from damage when driving in severe off-road conditions. The tire material ensures that the characteristics are maintained when the air temperature drops to -20°C and below. The maximum service life of the product is 80 thousand km. The Pro version has improved characteristics, allowing highway mileage within 30% of the total operating time.
- Goodyear Wrangler MT/R radial tire with Kevlar, equipped with a non-directional mud tread. The tire's construction uses Kevlar cord, which protects the sidewalls from cuts and punctures. The open edges of the tread pattern provide increased maneuverability when driving on loose earthen soils or sand. The tire can withstand air temperatures up to +45...+50°C, and is characterized by a reduced noise level when driving on highways or compacted primers.
Tire sizes for UAZ Patriot
There are three types of summer tires: road, AT and MT. If you are not going to drive in mud and participate in competitions, then you need to buy road tires or AT, in all other cases MT or mud tires for the UAZ. In sizes 16 the radius is: 235/70 and 235/75 or 245/70 and 245/75. Sizes 18 radius have 245/60, 245/65 and 265/60, 265/65. According to experts, those who have driven a UAZ Patriot for thousands of kilometers in the summer use 265/65/R18 tires, and in the winter 245/70 R16.
Winter tires for the UAZ Patriot must be studded. The dimensions of the disks on the UAZ Patriot require additional intervention; it is necessary to file the calipers, but on new cars this is not necessary, the disks fit just like that. Filing a caliper is not an easy task, it is better to contact official dealers. So, what kind of wheels on a UAZ are in demand? Let's take a look below:
Wheels r15
Wheels for UAZ R15, wheel offset ET 15, 7 inches wide. According to these parameters, alloy wheels 15 are suitable for UAZ I-502 from Nizhnekamsk, size 225/85/R15. For UAZ Bukhanka 15 wheels you don’t need to do anything, but for older models we grind off a little caliper at the front, you can even use a file. The advantage of 15 wheels on the UAZ Patriot is obvious: their lightness, good road handling and, most importantly, no excessive fuel consumption.
Wheels r16
The 16th wheel model has a larger profile, which means the tires for the UAZ Patriot are softer on the road. When hitting a curb, the wheels on the UAZ Patriot 16 can withstand this load more firmly. Wheels for the UAZ Patriot R16 have many types of tires that fit our loaf, which is important when choosing. If it is important for you to choose your size, then these are alloy wheels for the UAZ Patriot R16. Allowed dimensions are 235/70, 235/75, 245/70, 245/75, 235/85 and 255/85 without any modification or suspension lifting.
Wheels r18
Top-end tire configurations on the UAZ Patriot are within the 18th radius. In this radius, according to experts, there is only a beautiful appearance. The 18th wheel is easier to unbolt under shock loads, but for the most part, UAZ wheel rims cannot withstand impacts with curbs. With the same wheel size, this radius is much more expensive and harder on the road. In the 18th radius there are very few types of wheel sizes that will fit the UAZ Patriot. It should be understood that the larger the wheel, the more expensive it is. The larger the wheel we install, the more wear occurs on the components and assemblies of the car. When driving, the energy dynamics suffer; the larger the wheel, it is more difficult to accelerate. What is also important to note is that with large wheels, fuel consumption increases, plus 1-2 liters per 100 km, which is important for the average person.

Expert advice
When choosing tires for a car, you must first follow the manufacturer's instructions. Ask yourself a few questions.
- On what roads will the car be primarily used?
- Do you need increased cross-country ability?
- How much of the route will be city roads and how much will be highways?
- Will the vehicle carry heavy loads?
The answers to these and similar questions will help determine which tire parameters you need to pay special attention to.
How to choose the right wheels for UAZ Patriot 2013?
3 types of rims:
- Stamped (economical price category) - made from a sheet of iron by stamping on a press.
- Light alloy - manufactured by casting (more reliable than stamped ones).
- Forged (the highest quality and more expensive than the previous ones) - made from light alloys by stamping at high temperatures.
The choice depends on financial capabilities. However, it should be borne in mind that the quality of the road surface on which you have to drive every day must also be taken into account.
So, if it gets into a hole, a stamped disk will bend and will not cause harm to the tire, but a forged or cast one can cut it. There is a possibility that the cast disc may burst or crack.
It should also be noted that repairing “stamping” wheels is cheaper than repairing cast or forged wheels. But wheels with high-quality cast and forged disks kill the suspension less, because lighter and have more perfect geometry (better balanced).
The same wheels may or may not rub with tires on the same car - wheel alignment adjustment will help here.
What is the tire pressure?
It is the driver's responsibility to constantly monitor tire pressure. This will avoid standard problems associated with vehicle operation. An abnormal pressure value often causes:
- deterioration of management;
- uneven tread wear.
Often the car owner independently reduces the pressure in the wheels of his own vehicle. This reduces the load on the suspension, and the car “passes” various road irregularities an order of magnitude easier. But it is worth noting: a decrease in pressure even by 0.1 MPa leads to serious problems. The main ones include:
- increased fuel consumption;
- rapid wear of the outer tread segments;
- the car becomes less maneuverable.
An overinflated wheel causes no less problems. The central part of the cylinder begins to wear off quickly. In addition, at ambient temperatures of more than 60 degrees Celsius, the tire may simply explode. Which will lead to driving into the oncoming lane.
Disc care
Discs must be cared for regardless of how they were made. In order for the discs to last longer and not lose their quality characteristics, they require proper and timely care. This is especially important in winter.
First of all, it is important to replace summer and winter tires on time, since the rims help in driving, and the wrong tires will create interference and the rims will take more load. Then, you should not constantly use an aggressive driving style. This puts additional stress on many parts of the car, damaging not only the wheels, but also the suspension.
If the temperature outside changes frequently, it is recommended to constantly monitor the tire pressure. Correct pressure results in correct ride and excellent vehicle control, contributing to driving safety.
If there is snow, ice outside and utility services use chemicals, then it is necessary to periodically wash the discs, as this negatively affects the paintwork. The fact is that paintwork helps protect discs from corrosion, and chemical reagents corrode it over time. In addition, peeling paintwork does not look very nice.
By following these simple rules, you can easily save any wheels on your UAZ Patriot, regardless of manufacturing technology and material quality. As a result, it must be said that the wheels on the UAZ Patriot practically do not differ in size and they can be called universal. This allows you to quickly and easily find the necessary disks for both civilian and military versions of the Patriot.
What kind of discs were installed on different generations of UAZ Patriot
The type and size of wheels on UAZ Patriot often differ on cars of different years of manufacture. Also, the difference in disk size may depend on the power of the power unit. On popular versions of the UAZ Patriot, wheel rims of the following dimensions were installed:
Size Disc size in format: 1. D is the diameter of the disc in inches. 2. x - a sign indicating the inseparability of the disk. 3. B is the width of the rim in inches. | ET (mm) Disc offset The distance between the vertical plane of symmetry of the wheel and the plane of application of the disc to the hub. | PCD (mm) Disc drilling 1. Number of bolt holes. 2. The diameter of the circle on which the mounting holes are located. | Tire Tire size in the format: 1. Width of the working surface. 2. Percentage of profile height from width. 3. R – design type (radial) – internal diameter (in inches). | DIA (mm) Central hole The diameter of the central hole, another marking is CO. | |

It is necessary to verify product parameters. The offset, drilling and dimensions must be compatible - otherwise the operation of the vehicle will become hazardous.
Disc car tuning: is it worth it?
Some UAZ Patriot owners may feel that the car does not have high enough ground clearance. The most popular methods of increasing ground clearance on domestic SUVs are installing special spacers and switching to wheels and tires of larger diameter. In order to properly upgrade the UAZ Patriot and avoid the possibility of losing control of the vehicle, you need to remember that:
- The safe width of rims with tires on a car reaches 33 inches;
- The optimal disc offset option for off-road tires is from 12 to -25 mm.
If this is not enough, the car body can be raised. The lifting done will help increase the ground clearance, which will allow the installation of rollers with diameters up to 35 inches and an offset of up to -42 mm.
What do the sizes mean?
In fact, all UAZ models come from the factory on stamped iron wheels in the same size: 7Jx16 5/139.7 ET35 108.5. What do all these numbers mean – study the picture and table below:
The main parameters of the wheel rim are:
Parameter name | What does it mean when choosing disks | Values in numbers using the example of UAZ |
Disc width | The seat width of the rim is measured in inches. It is allowed to increase by 0.5 or 1.0, but you also need to compare the width of the tire. | 7,0 |
Disc diameter | The diameter of the rim is in inches, although in everyday life everyone calls it radius. | 16 |
DCO (DIA) | This is the diameter of the mounting hole, which corresponds in size to the diameter of the machine hub. Measured in millimeters. | 108,5 |
Departure (ET) | Distance in mm between the mounting hole (fitting plane) and the central axis of the rim. The permissible amount of change in this parameter is 10 mm, but preferably in a smaller direction. When enlarged, the disc may rest against the caliper and not sit on the hub at all. | 35 |
PCD (bolt pattern) | Bolt pattern (drill pattern) is usually called two interrelated parameters: the number of mounting holes and the diameter of the circle on which their centers are located. | 5*139,7 |
All these parameters are indicated on the disc packaging box. On the disk itself you can find everything except the bolt pattern. Width, diameter and offset - on alloy wheels this information is usually written on the back of the spoke. Markings on stamped discs are on the back side along the circumference of the rim.
Where to find the markings on the rim
The PCD size does not appear anywhere on the disk. The number of holes can be determined visually, but it is more difficult to find out the diameter of their seating circle when purchasing disks from hand (when there is no original packaging), since it is inconvenient to measure it.
This size is calculated using the formula PCD=N*1.701.
There is nowhere to look at the bolt pattern on the disk, you need to calculate it
Note: The 1.701 factor only applies to 5-hole rims!
Fasteners
The disk is secured with nuts size M 14*1.5. For stamped discs, through nuts with a height of 22 mm are used. For alloy wheels, the nuts are closed and 35 mm high.
The studs, which have the same diameter and thread pitch as the nuts, are also not the same in length: if the disks are iron, then 45 mm, if cast, 68 mm.
What drives can be installed
When choosing wheels for a UAZ Patriot, the owner must understand how the vehicle will be used, namely, the frequency, quality of the road surface, driving habits, climatic conditions, etc. are important. Depending on this, discs of various manufactures are selected - cast or forged.
Alloy wheels are made by casting an alloy, which allows them to be lightweight yet quite strong. The alloy contains high-quality steel, as well as special additives that help improve the quality characteristics of the product. Under the influence of high temperatures, the alloy is poured into a special mold, and then ground, excess material is removed, the quality of the finished disc is checked and covered with paint and varnish.
Forged wheels are slightly different at the manufacturing stage. Thanks to technology, they are very light and at the same time durable. This type of disc is produced through numerous temperature changes, due to which the finished disc is hardened. It is heated to a temperature of 600 0 C and then slowly cooled. After this, the quality of workmanship is checked and the paint coating is applied.
Basic parameters of wheels on UAZ "Patriot"
This model has several different modifications, and starting from 2018 it is produced in restyling, and the manufacturer takes care of each category of potential buyers, offering them a wide variety of geometric parameters of wheel rims, in particular:
- The very first version of the Patriot from 2005 is equipped exclusively with 16-radius wheels with dimensions of 7.0J x 16 ET35, 7.5J x 16 ET5, 8.0J x 16 ET20 and 6.5J x 16 ET40, depending on the vehicle configuration. From this it can be seen that the wheel width and offset, without affecting its other geometric characteristics, which gives it the opportunity to offer drivers tire widths from 235 to 245 mm. This dimension applies to all UAZ Patriot vehicles produced until 2015.
- The updated version of the SUV has acquired a more brutal appearance, and the engineers decided to equip both modifications of the car (engine capacity - 2.2 diesel and 2.7 petrol) with a radius of 18, which gives the UAZ a very advantageous look. The wheel size is the same for any configuration - 7.0J x 18 ET35, and tires with characteristics of 245/60/R18 are ideal for such wheels. As you can see, the developers tried to urbanize the car as much as possible, and the rubber profile became lower, which makes operating the SUV in the city more convenient, but off-road it feels worse than its predecessors.
Exclusive rims for UAZ Patriot Important! During the 2015 restyling, the Patriot's base did not change, so the owners of this car can install R17 or R18 wheels on it themselves, and with a low tire profile, the wheel arches will not interfere with normal driving.
About wheel bolt patterns for domestic UAZ cars
Reading time: 4 minutes
The bolt pattern of wheels on a UAZ, this legendary SUV, like any other model of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant brand, is an important parameter when selecting and installing new wheels. Using the data presented in the parameter, you can find out how the wheel fits into the chassis elements. Such a well-known and popular domestic SUV is capable of overcoming the most difficult obstacles and can give a head start to its famous foreign counterparts. The dimensions and characteristics of the car allow it to be used in completely different conditions. In addition, the wheel arches of the car are quite large in size, so off-road or tuning enthusiasts can install very large wheels.
The manufacturer allows the installation of products in only two wheel sizes - R15 and R16. Only with wheels of this size will the car meet all the characteristics and qualities inherent in it. Other sizes are also suitable for use, but their use may be harmful to components and assemblies. To get ideal off-road performance, you need to be very careful in the selection of tires and wheels, and also clearly know the wheel bolt pattern for the UAZ.
