The hoses are of different diameters, the fitting of the box is thin, 5 - 7 mm, the hose is an old gas one, but the second one seems to be 12 mm. along the inner diameter so that it can easily fit onto the standard hose of the automatic transmission cooling system. I recommend measuring the outer diameter of the hoses leading from the automatic transmission to the radiator before starting work.

I won’t go into detail about removing the pan and filter, because... The drive is full of recordings. I will only focus on the key points: 1.

Approach the replacement procedure itself responsibly.
The room must be clean, as well as the unit (in the area of ​​the pan and the automatic transmission dipstick) too. What did I do? I washed the garage floor and automatic transmission with a high pressure washer. Any debris that gets into the unit can cause trouble. Don't be lazy! 2.
The automatic transmission filter is mounted on bolts of different lengths.

What oil to use

It is worth noting that the second generation Kalina has modifications with manual and automatic transmissions. LADA Kalina 2 is equipped with a hydromechanical automatic transmission model JF414E with four gears. This means that each type of transmission requires different products.

For automatic transmissions, the manufacturer recommends using only Genuine EJ-1ATF oils (from the supplier JX Nippon Oil and Energy Corporation) and Nissan ATF Matic–S. When using other transmission lubricants, problems with the automatic transmission may occur, as well as reduced service life and malfunctions. Warranties do not cover the above problems.

In an automatic transmission, working fluid above the maximum level is unacceptable. Excess lubricant leads to splashes through the breather. If the liquid comes into contact with hot engine parts, it will ignite.

Which lubricant should you choose?

Today there is no shortage of choice of transmission fluids; the main thing is to purchase the original, and not the Chinese analogue. Many users, having used a Lada Kalina car, recommend Lukoil semi-synthetics, TNK Magnum - oils that allow you to travel up to 300 thousand km. without major repairs. At the same time, the manual transmission behaves much quieter, switching gears more smoothly in cold weather.

As we have already noted, gear oil is very viscous. Even when hot, it hardly comes out of the box. Therefore, some of the liquid remains on the walls of the pan and on the shaft gears themselves. Experts recommend spilling a little fluid before replacing. To do this, pour 100-150 grams of oil into the box without tightening the plug, and wait until it comes out of the hole. Many are surprised by the result: clean transmission fluid was poured into the box, and after a couple of seconds black slurry came out. This way we will clean the gearbox as much as possible of old lubricant. This is especially useful when switching to a product from a different manufacturer and with a different viscosity.

A complete oil change in the automatic transmission in LADA Granta is carried out in the following order:

  • Remove the air filter housing assembly.

  • Drain some of the oil into the prepared bowl.
  • Insert the tube, drain the remaining liquid, tighten.
  • Pour new oil (5 liters) through a tube with a funnel inserted into the filler hole.
  • Excess oil will drain through the inspection hole located below.
  • Clean the magnets in the tray.
  • Place the air filter housing in its original place.
  • Turn on the engine.
  • Wait until excess lubricant drains out.
  • Finally tighten the plug.

About the resource

The procedure for changing transmission oil differs significantly from engine oil. The manufacturer advises changing the transmission every 75 thousand kilometers. But experienced motorists recommend reducing this figure to 60, and if the car was new, then even to 30 thousand kilometers. Why is this so? New parts form small chips during the grinding process. Its presence in oil is undesirable. Therefore, such lubricant must be replaced as soon as possible.

Further, during operation, the oil will be subject to different temperature changes. Production will decrease, but this does not mean that after 30 thousand kilometers it will stop altogether. And the factory oil itself is not of good quality. Therefore, in order to keep the transmission intact, the oil in the Lada Kalina gearbox must be changed at least every 60 thousand kilometers.

Step-by-step instructions for changing the oil

Replacing transmission fluid, regardless of its type, begins with preparatory work. To do this, the LADA Kalina 2 car is placed on a flat horizontal surface. You can use a lift, a viewing hole, or drive onto an overpass. The car must be warmed up before starting. Most of the procedure is carried out from below the car.

Automatic transmission oil change

  • First you need to remove the protective cover or boot.
  • Then unscrew the drain plug with a 19 key. It is located on the pallet.
  • We substitute a reservoir for waste liquid.
  • There is an overflow plug under the drain plug - remove it and drain the oil.
  • For a better replacement, you can remove the pan and clean it from the inside. To do this, unscrew the bolts with a 10mm wrench and carefully remove the part. We clean the tray and the magnets located on it.
  • We install the pallet in place.
  • The new lubricant must be poured through the dipstick hole. The dipstick plug is located near the engine block, under the bellows of the air filter. If access to the filler hole and dipstick is difficult, you can remove the corrugation along with the air filter cover. To remove the corrugation, you need to unscrew the 4 bolts securing the filter cover, remove the air flow sensor and the air pipe. The pipe and corrugation are secured with clamps.
  • We take out the dipstick plug and, using a hose with a funnel, pour in the same amount of new oil as was drained.
  • To distribute the lubricant in the gearbox, you need to start the engine and shift the gearbox selector through all gears. The selector must be held in each position for several seconds.
  • Check the level of the filled working fluid. We lower the dipstick plug with the wiped tip into the filler hole and remove it. The oil level should be between o and “MAX”.
  • Having brought the lubricant level to the optimal level, close the dipstick plug and install the air filter bellows (if it has been removed).

Draining waste

If dark-colored metal dust is found in the waste, this is a sure sign that the box needs to be washed. The flushing liquid is poured into the box, the drive wheel is raised using a jack, the engine is started and first gear is engaged. After 10 minutes, the engine is turned off, and the flushing MTF located in the gearbox is drained.

Replacement steps

  1. Remove the dipstick and install a funnel in the hole;
  2. Pour approximately 3 liters of MTF into the manual transmission, check the level with a dipstick (if you frequently use 5th gear, it is better to fill it a little more than the average value, closer to the upper value).

In the automatic transmission of Lada Kalina 2, the content of transmission lubricant more than prescribed is not permissible, as this can lead to ignition.

Necessary equipment:

  • Key for 8 and key for 10;
  • Socket wrench or wrench for 17 and 19;
  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • Canister for processing;
  • For manual transmission - a medical bulb (plunger syringe);
  • With automatic transmission - filling hose, funnel;
  • Gloves;
  • Lubricant suitable for this box.

Instructions:

Regardless of the type of box, a heated Lada Kalina car must stand on a flat surface, overpass, or pit.

  1. In manual transmission, remove the protective boot;
  2. Using a key number 17, unscrew the drain plug, after draining the liquid into the substituted container (about 15 minutes), tighten it again;
  3. Unscrew the filler plug (located just above the drain hole) and pour in lubricating fluid. The optimal indicator is at the bottom mark of the filler hole. You can use a syringe or bulb;
  4. Tighten the plug and return the protective boot to its place.

I read on the forums about changing the oil in an automatic transmission, but didn’t find anything sensible. They write about some kind of partial replacement - this is pointless. On Drive2 I found one entry for a replacement on a grant, more or less suitable. Anyone interested in this action, enjoy reading.

We buy two meters of a fuel pump hose from a classic (it fits perfectly), cut it approximately in half, and make this device for pouring oil into the automatic transmission level dipstick.

This is the hose that needs to be attached to the upper radiator fitting that goes to the gearbox.

Here it stands under the hose from the expansion tank; it is from this that the waste oil comes out.

We buy two bottles with a volume of one liter, unscrew the overflow plug shown in photo 1, drain the oil from the gearbox, screw the overflow plug back in. Add approximately what was drained. Start the engine in about 3-5 seconds, drain about 0.6 liters of oil, then Fill the funnel with the same volume and repeat the procedure.

I filled it with ATF, used 8 liters of oil, there is no point in checking the oil level with a dipstick, since there is an overflow tube through which the oil level is regulated. I checked it with a dipstick, it turned out to be the same level as before the replacement.

Difficulties when changing the Kalina 2 automatic transmission oil. About interest

It's time to change the oil. I climbed into the hole and discovered that the magic bolt of the new type had been torn off. Thank you dear exchange service. The new bolt is made of soft metal and can be unscrewed with a 8mm hexagon socket.

After reading the forums, I tried to unscrew the bolt using a gas wrench. The game is not worth the candle, dear friends. You'll get fucked and dance.

They also try to cut the bolt with a grinder and unscrew it with a large screwdriver. Also a complex approach.

How to unscrew the bolt. I don’t understand exactly how they did it in the service. Tolley with an internal hexagon of 9 or an external hexagon of 17. It was stupidly hammered into a bolt or a bolt into the head. And the bolt turned perfectly using a ratchet.

If, due to the fact that you could not unscrew the bolt, you have been changing the oil through the dipstick for a long time, then buy a flush and run the engine with it.

Next is the standard oil change procedure.

But before that, buy a new bolt from Logan. It is of the following type and is made of high quality metal. The bolt also has a washer-spacer.

To tighten it you need a 4-sided 8-pointer.

For some reason I couldn't find the original bolt.

Remember that ideally it is better to install a new bolt every oil change.

Types of gear oil

There are three main types of lubricant:

  1. Mineral. It is characterized by unstable fluidity, is produced faster and is characterized by mediocre parameters.
  2. Synthetic. Stable under thermal and chemical stress. It has the longest service life, but the main disadvantage is the high price and increased consumption.
  3. Semi-synthetic. Something between mineral and synthetic in price and characteristics. Optimal for used cars.

For Lada Kalina, it is recommended to purchase an original lubricant product or its equivalent. High-quality material cannot be cheap. Some car owners do not trust original oils from the manufacturer, but this does not mean that they are of poor quality. Their cost is not as high as that of foreign analogues. For Lada Kalina, semi-synthetic oil from Lukoil has proven itself to be excellent. Judging by the reviews, the car can travel up to 300,000 km without the need for major repairs or transmission replacement.

Checking the level, replacing and topping up automatic transmission oil

You will need: gearbox fluid, funnel, clean cloth, wrench “19”.

The manufacturer recommends the use of Genuine EJ-1ATF working fluid from the manufacturer JX Nippon Oil and Energy Corporation. The use of other oils or liquids may lead to malfunctions or gearbox failure.

The working fluid level indicator (dipstick) is located in the front part of the engine compartment under the air filter (for clarity, the air filter has been removed in the figure). The level of working fluid in the gearbox is checked with the mechanism warmed up after movement.

5. Start the engine, let it idle for about 5 minutes, then check the level again (see the subparagraphs on checking the level and adding working fluid to the automatic transmission), as well as the quality of the fluid. If contamination of the liquid is detected, it is necessary to repeat operations 3 and 4 points.

  • We drain the old gear oil into an empty container, which we place under the drain hole.
  • We fill in new transmission oil through a hose that we insert (depending on the type of manual transmission): instead of a dipstick (for convenience, the air filter housing can be unscrewed and moved to the side), or instead of the reverse switch, which we unscrew with a “22” key.

It is convenient to add oil to the gearbox through the yellow plug. It is necessary to remove only the air resonator (for Lada Vesta/XRAY). The plug itself is attached to one bolt with a TorX head, which can also be unscrewed with a regular head (photo author):

Attention! If the oil drained from the gearbox is dark in color and metal particles are visible in it, the gearbox should be washed. Pour 1-1.5 liters of special flushing oil into the box crankcase. With one of the front wheels hanging, start the engine and shift into gear. After 5-7 minutes, drain the flushing oil and fill with clean transmission oil.

While working, you will need some tools and materials.

  • key for 8 and 10;
  • spanner or wrench for 17 and 19;
  • crosshead screwdriver;
  • container for waste liquid (for example, a 5-liter bottle with a cut out side);
  • plunger syringe or medical bulb (for manual transmission);
  • hose for filling fluid (for automatic transmission);
  • funnel for the hose;
  • gloves;
  • transmission oil, according to the gearbox.

If you do not have any tool or device, you can use improvised means.

Place the car on a two-post lift, apply the parking brake and turn off the ignition (two-post lift type P3.2G with a lifting capacity of 3.2 tons).

Disconnect the ground wire terminal from the battery.

Unscrew plug 1, Figure 4-2, and drain the oil from the 3rd gearbox (ring key 17, installation type 24164 f. "ALFA" (Italy) for collecting used oil).

Degrease the threads in the gearbox housing and on the plug, apply sealant to the threaded part of the plug (white spirit, application rate 2 g; PS-1 sealant, application rate 1 g).

Screw plug 1 into the oil drain hole in the 3rd gearbox housing. The tightening torque of the plug is 29…46 N.m (2.9…4.6 kgf.m) (replaceable head 17, knob, torque wrench).

Unscrew plug 2 for filling oil (ring key 17, installation type 24164 f. "ALFA" (Italy) for collecting waste oil).

Pour oil into the gearbox. The control oil level should be at the lower edge of the filler hole (filling unit S-223-1 for transmission oils, transmission oil GL-4 according to API classification, consumption rate: 2.25 l).

Degrease the threads in the gearbox housing and on the plug, apply sealant to the threaded part of the plug (white spirit, application rate 2 g; PS-1 sealant, application rate 1 g).

Screw plug 2 into the oil filling hole in the gearbox housing. The tightening torque of the plug is 29…46 N.m (2.9…4.6 kgf.m) (replaceable head 17, knob, torque wrench).

Connect the earth wire terminal to the battery.

They write that it is working itself out. And AvtoVAZ itself recommends it. Well, does it make sense to pour more expensive? Everyone decides for themselves. The choice of oil does not in any way affect the howling of the box and the trolley performance.
