If you still don’t know how to unlock the Starline A93 key fob, remember the following algorithm:
- Quickly hold down the first and fourth buttons (far left and right);
- The press should be short and simultaneous;
- The remote control will vibrate and the “KN BLOCK” icon will disappear from the display;
- Done, you have managed to unlock the keys.
Among all Starline alarm systems, the A93 modification is one of the most popular today. It harmoniously intertwines a large number of additional options, simplicity, ease of use and reasonable cost. As for auxiliary “goodies”, there are so many of them that most car owners are not even aware of them.
The ability to temporarily disable the buttons on the key fob is one of them, forgotten, but incredibly convenient. Below in the article we will tell you how to use it correctly.
Unlocking the Starline alarm on a car
When the security system is fully operational and functions perfectly, guaranteeing safety from attacks on your car, this is simply wonderful, but there are exceptions. Even the most careful owner can lose or break his key fob, which will not allow him to turn off the Starline alarm. In this case, both the owner and the thief have options for entering the car, but without completely unlocking the system, it will not be possible to start the engine.
Unlocking StarLine alarm
The Starline security system is capable of blocking the car starter. For full operation of the machine, the system will have to be turned off manually. Engine blocking by the security system can be caused by:
- a dead battery or loss of the Starline key fob;
- failure of the anti-theft system control panel;
- incorrect settings of the shock sensor;
- presence of powerful radio interference.
Emergency manual deactivation of the alarm on a car without a key fob is carried out in two ways:
- comprehensive emergency shutdown of the entire system;
- introduction of a special anti-lock code.
To unlock the StarLine security system without a password and be able to start the engine of your car, you must follow these steps in sequence:
- Open the car with your personal key and find the secret Valet button in advance.
- Activate the ignition without attempting to start the engine.
- Press the Valet button three times within a time period not exceeding 20 seconds (in some models of the StarLine system, the Valet button must be pressed four times).
- Turn off the ignition.
The anti-lock code of the StaLine anti-theft system is a two-digit code. It is entered not from the system key fob, but by pressing the secret Valet button a certain number of times. The difficulty with this method lies in the time limit. These manipulations must be completed within the same 20 seconds.
Step-by-step execution of actions:
- Open the car with your personal key, visually verifying that the direction indicators are activated four times.
- Activate the ignition after finding the secret Valet button.
- Proceed to dial a two-digit password. The number of clicks on the Valet button must correspond to the first digit of the secret code.
- Turn off and turn on the ignition again.
- Dial the second digit of the password in the same way.
- Turn off the ignition.
Important! A secret two-digit code cannot contain the number “0”
The standard factory code for the StarLine system is “11”. As newer versions of the system are released, this code may change. To avoid getting into an awkward situation, remember the anti-lock password in advance and study the features of unlocking your security system.
Unlocking the Starline key fob
To prevent unintentional pressing of the key fob controls, which could result in accidental activation or deactivation of the alarm, manufacturers provide a key fob button lock mode.
To lock the StarLine key fob, you must simultaneously press buttons 2 and 4 (2 – “open lock” indicator logo; 4 – “right” arrow logo).
This will happen:
- a short beep will sound;
- “KEY LOCK” will appear on the screen;
- The key fob buttons will be locked.
To unlock the StarLine key fob, you need to simultaneously press buttons 1 and 4 (1 – “closed lock” indicator emblem; 4 – “right” arrow emblem).
This will happen:
- a short beep will sound and the key fob will vibrate;
- the inscription on the screen “KEY LOCK” will disappear;
- The key fob buttons are unlocked.
Methods for eliminating alarm blocking
To unlock the starline alarm you need to do the following:
- Replace the battery in the control key fob. If after replacing the battery the vehicle does not respond to signals, then you need to try to open the car using the second key fob (if it is included in the kit).
- Open the car using the key and turn off the alarm by pressing the Valet button (emergency shutdown of the anti-theft system).
- Remove the terminals from the battery. In winter, the blocking of the security alarm is often associated with a low car battery. This can be determined if the lamps are dim, the car does not start and the anti-theft system does not turn off. In this case, to block the alarm, you must remove one of the terminals. After charging the battery, it is necessary to reprogram the control key fob.
- Disable the anti-theft system. Most often, the unit is installed under the car control panel. To turn it off, you need to remove all the wires from the unit and start the car. If it doesn't start, it means some parts are blocked. To unlock them, you need to disconnect the wires going from the security system unit to the car wiring, and then connect the ends of the standard wiring together. After these steps, the vehicle should start.

Disabling the anti-theft system without a key fob
Sometimes there are cases of loss of the Starline security system control key fob or its complete malfunction. Then you need to turn off the alarm manually, namely:
- Coded deprotection.
- Normal emergency removal.
To use these methods, you need to know exactly the location of the secret Valet button (switching the car to the service state). This button is most often located near the control levers, in the area of the safety block, behind the glove compartment, near the steering wheel or under the car panel.
If you do not find the service button, then you need to contact the company where the alarm was installed or call the previous owner of the vehicle.
To disconnect a car from the security system without using a key fob, you need to use the correct algorithm. It depends on which starline anti-theft system is installed on the car. Let's take a closer look at the algorithm for unlocking the anti-theft system, depending on the model.
Starline A1, A2, A4
Disabling these security system models depends on the operating method of programmed option No. 5. If you use the shutdown method without entering an individual password, then you need to do the following:
- Open the door.
- Start the ignition for a few seconds.
- Press the service button 3 times.
- Turn off the ignition.
Common reasons for alarm blocking
There are several main reasons when the starline security system does not respond to key fob signals and does not open the vehicle locks. The main ones are:
- Dead battery in the control key fob.
- Dead vehicle battery.
- The vehicle is located in an area of high radio interference (airport).
- Damage to the anti-theft system.
Whatever the reason for the blocking, you can always open the car doors, but you can unlock the engine from the alarm only after eliminating the system malfunction.
How to turn off alarm systems of different models without a key fob: step-by-step instructions
Let's start by looking at the order for series A1, 9, 8, 4:
- The machine door opens with a key. This is not an emergency method.
- There is no need to start the engine, just activate the ignition.
- Next comes the use of the Valet button. In the case of models 1 and 2, 4, you need to press three times. In others it is necessary 4 times, for at least 20 seconds.
- Ignition off. If everything is correct, the systems are deactivated. The symbols should not appear.
Disabling locks using the service button in the cabin
If there are no signs of unintentional activation of engine start interlocks, you can try to unlock the engine using the service mode. This mode is called Valet and is used to transfer the system to service mode. To activate, you need to insert the key into the ignition, turn on the ignition and then turn it off.
After this, you need to hold the service mode activation button for about 10-20 seconds. The result will be a notification using a special short signal, after which the signal lamp (indicator light, LED) will be constantly on. This method means disabling all security functions, which may also mean removing the engine locks. We add that after fixing the problem, it is necessary to activate the security functions of the alarm again.
Remote engine shutdown
Starline A91 allows you to remotely turn off the car engine both to prevent theft (the interlocking circuits should in this case break the wiring sections necessary for the engine to operate, and not block the starter), and to terminate the autostart early.
In the first case you will need:
- Program function 8 of the service menu in advance (see procedure above) to value 1 or 2. In the first case, the engine, after turning on the “anti-robbery” mode, will be turned off the first time you press the brake pedal, in the second - immediately.
- To directly turn off the engine, simultaneously press and hold buttons 1 and 2 on the key fob.
Disabling the anti-robbery mode will require pressing button 2, as with normal disarming.
To turn off an engine running on autostart:
- On the main key fob, press button 2 for a long time, then briefly press button 3.
- The additional key fob does not provide the ability to turn off the engine.

Door locking when driving
Some owners of the Starline A91, A63 or A92 complex have a problem when the system does not close the doors when moving or, conversely, blocks them even without receiving the appropriate commands or reaching a certain speed. If the doors do not close, then you need to check the limit switches - perhaps they are faulty or the contact has come loose. Because of this, the central unit does not receive the command and cannot block.
If the doors are locked forcibly, without commands or high speed, then this is a programming error or a glitch in the system. In this case, you need to visit a service center, where professional installers will sort out the issue and fix the problem.
How to disable door lock
The function of automatically locking doors when the ignition is turned on is not always useful and many owners tend to disable it. Deactivation of this option on the Starline A91 Keyless alarm system is carried out through the programming menu. To do this you need:
- press the Valet button five times with the ignition off, and then turn it on again;
- listen to five vehicle beeps confirming the correct transition to this mode;
- select the appropriate programming table using the third button on the remote control;
- select option No. 2 – automatic control of door locks;
- set the required parameter (4 – disabled);
- turn off the ignition so that the system remembers the commands.
Now every time the car is armed, the doors will remain open.
Starline A93 key fob starter lock
The alarm system has additional protection systems that block the operation of the starter and protect it from failure. For example, if the owner remotely started the engine, and then got into the car, inserted the key into the ignition and turned it, the starter will not operate.
This function is set through the programming menu. Car owner first:
- with the ignition off, press the Valet service key five times;
- the ignition is turned on, the car emits five sound and light signals;
- short presses of the second and third keys select the corresponding programming table (SF);
- button three is pressed for a long time and then briefly until a melodic signal appears;
- the corresponding function No. 12 is selected and parameter No. 4 is set;
- exit and memorization of parameters occurs automatically, you just need to turn off the ignition.
Ways to reset (zero) the Starline alarm
Sometimes, in order to connect additional devices or carry out other procedures, a factory reset is required. It works like this.
- Turn on the ignition. Then press the Valet service button 10 times.
- Turn off the ignition. 10 signals will sound indicating that the car has entered the factory reset mode.
- Press the Valet key again and listen to another siren signal.
- Press button 1 on the key fob, going to the factory settings. A short sound will confirm the success of the procedure.
- Turn on the ignition to confirm the command. The side lights flash five times (see video).
Why does the alarm block the engine from starting?
An anti-theft alarm is a complex electronic system that has many options for connecting to the main control systems of the car, its own “brains” and several levels of protection against hacking. This is natural, since its task is to prevent criminals from stealing a car.
However, there is a second side to the problem: like any electronic system, the signaling system may not work correctly or fail. What causes this problem? Manufacturers of anti-theft systems and car repair specialists name several reasons for engine blocking:
- emergency blockade in the event of an unsuccessful attempt to break into the car's locks by car thieves;
- system software failure (including contact failure on the CAN bus);
- malfunctions of electrical wiring, electrical connections or signal power supply;
- malfunctions or insufficient voltage on the immobilizer key fob;
- starter interlock relay failure.
All of the listed malfunctions are related specifically to the blocking of the car’s engine. In this case, the alarm unlocks the doors. What's next?
Engine blocking with car alarm
If there are installed anti-theft systems, electrical equipment is responsible for blocking the engine start. Immobilizers or car alarms may be faulty and cause constant or occasional failures during operation.
It should be added that the severity of the problem will depend not on the specific model or brand of car, but on the complexity of the installed anti-theft security system.
Accidental activation of the engine lock function
First of all, carefully study the displayed icons on the alarm key fob. A common cause of blocking is accidental activation of additional functions. It is also necessary to monitor the readings of the LED indicator light (if equipped) in the vehicle interior, which serves as a light indicator of the alarm status. Flashing LED lamps in most cases indicate that the anti-theft function of the immobilizer is activated in the menu.
If, after turning the key in the lock and turning on the ignition, the warning lamp blinks frequently (for example, the StarLine car alarm) before starting the engine, and a pictogram with the inscription “immo” is displayed on the key fob itself:
- One way to solve the problem is to remove the key from the lock, after which you just need to press the button to open the central door lock on the key fob.
- You can also get out of the car, set the alarm to security mode, then disarm it and then start the engine.
In other words, you need to make sure that the alarm operates in the normal mode that is familiar to the owner. Up to 30% of cases of engine start blocking by alarms occur due to accidental changes in program settings. The driver’s task is to disable all unnecessary functions in the settings.
Tips and tricks
If attempts to remove engine locks and start the engine are unsuccessful, then there is a high probability of a serious malfunction or failure of individual alarm elements. The result is random activation of engine locks, which cannot be disabled using standard methods. The faulty car must be taken to a service station, as removing the lock will require professional intervention.
The specified delivery can be carried out by tow truck. Another affordable way is to call an auto electrician who works on-site. Note that the final costs of paying for the service of on-site engine unlocking, disabling the car alarm, emergency opening of locks, etc. often turn out to be less than delivering the car to a service center by tow truck and paying for repairs at a technical center.
1. Why is it important to know how to disable security in an emergency?
The need to disarm Starline A93 without a key fob arises in different situations. The problem may be in the security system itself if it fails. It also happens that the Starline A93 key fob does not work , you forgot it somewhere, lost it, or the battery in it simply died, and it is impossible to deactivate the security from it.
There is only one way out of the situation - emergency disabling of the security mode. To do this, you need to know what the Starline A93 service button looks like and what personal code your system has. This will save you from purchasing a new alarm system, and will also save you in difficult situations when there is nowhere to wait for help.
Coded shutdown
It is assumed that PIN codes must contain from 2 to 4 digits. The procedure has the following approximate description:
- Using the ignition key to turn on.
- The number of Valet presses corresponding to the first digit in the code.
- Turn off the ignition.
- Next, repeat the previous paragraphs for all numbers included in the code. The car alarm shouldn't break.
The system will be unlocked. The exact sequence can be obtained from the manufacturer's instructions. They will tell you how to turn off the alarm on your car.
What to do if the engine does not start after turning off the alarm?
If the system is deactivated, but there are malfunctions in the engine, certain actions must be taken.
- Battery diagnostics from a battery, without a key fob.
Sometimes problems appear if the device fails or is simply discharged. The battery is carefully inspected, the case is checked separately for defects. The electrolyte level in the jars also matters. Working fluid is simply added if its deficiency is noticeable. If necessary, recharge the battery and check the voltage applied to the terminals.
- Check the power unit. No emergency shutdown required.
It happens that the owners themselves break the engine during operation. Functionality testing is required for all elements of the system. This applies to high-voltage wires, spark plugs and distribution units, the so-called starter devices. The mechanism definitely needs to be replaced if cracks and other serious defects are visible. After this, repeat the removal.
- Diagnostics of the immobilizer and its operation.
The operation of systems is often associated with conflicts between security and a standard-type blocker. In some cases, an immobilizer bypass module is installed. It's easy to throw it off too.
- On the control unit, all connectors and wires are checked for integrity.
The conductor is immediately replaced if damage is noticeable in the insulation layer. Higher strength can be easily achieved by wrapping everything with electrical tape. Then the security works again.
StarLine security sometimes continues its work despite the correct execution of all sequences. Therefore, additional checks are required - on the quality of feedback and the condition of the batteries in the key fobs. Removing the connector from the antenna modules along with the reverse connection is performed in the following steps.
Rewriting the remotes themselves is another option to help solve problems. Sometimes the signal is interrupted due to interference present at operating frequencies. Rewriting sets everything to free frequencies. First, there are seven siren signals, then the lights flash several times. Then press buttons 1 and 2 on the remote control simultaneously until another signal appears in the form of sound. The other key is not used.
Setting up the key fob
The sensitivity of the shock sensor is adjusted when the security is disarmed, by pressing the third button (for a long time) and then by pressing it briefly. The first zone is turned on, the sensitivity of which can be changed by briefly pressing the second (more) and third key (less). When you press the third button again (long) and then briefly, we go into the alarm setting mode based on the sensitivity of the second zone, here the control is the same as in the first zone. To save the setting, you need to press the same keys as to enter the menu. In order to adjust the sensitivity of the tilt sensor, you need to disable the security mode and press the fourth button (long), then the same button (short). Control is performed by the second (more) and third (smaller) buttons. To save the setting, you need to press the same key combination as to enter the menu.
To switch to the manual function selection mode of Starline A93, you need to hold down the second or third button for 3 seconds. By short pressing button 3 we move the cursor to the right, and by short pressing button 2 we move the cursor to the left. In this menu, you can select the functions of starting the car engine by alarm clock, by timer, or by temperature (buttons 1,2,3 respectively). The fourth point is called “Service mode”, which is set to transfer the car to a service station. The "Turbo" icon is intended for vehicles equipped with diesel engines with a turbo timer. Enabling the “Auto” function allows you to automatically arm the car 10 seconds after all doors are closed. “Immo” mode, or immobilizer - in this mode, the car engine will be blocked from unauthorized starting 30 seconds after the ignition is turned off, and it can be unlocked by briefly pressing the second button of the key fob.
Setting up the key fob, or rather its additional functions, is done in a separate menu, which is entered by long pressing the fourth key for 5 seconds. Here you can set the current time, alarm time, enable/disable alarm functions, countdown timer and enable/disable it. Here you can increase the volume of the action confirmation signal, as well as select a quieter or silent mode, in which only the vibration of the key fob will work. Also in this menu there is a function for selecting the alarm sound from two options: siren, or trill, as well as adjusting the volume of the siren.
Unlock methods
There are several ways to unlock the Starline signaling system. For each device model they are slightly different, but the general principle remains the same.
Methods for disabling the alarm:
- Replacing the battery in the key fob. If after this the problem has not been resolved, then you should try to disconnect the car from the Starline alarm using a spare control panel.
- Emergency shutdown. In this case, you need to open the car door and press the Valet button.
- Removing the terminals from the battery. This method is often used in the cold season, when battery discharge is not considered a rare occurrence. It consists of removing one of the terminals and recharging the battery. After completing the work, you will need to re-program the control panel.
- Disabling the system unit. To carry out this operation, you need to remove all the wires from the block and try to start the car. If you cannot do this, you will have to disconnect the cables coming from the car wiring to the anti-theft system unit.
For what reasons may you need information on how to unlock the alarm?
Then flash the key fob to any alarm installation/maintenance service. A couple of days ago, about the same movie - some buttons were pressed in my pocket, the manipulations did not lead to anything. I turned to the specialists - it was just a bad Chinese battery, although it was new and according to the indicator it was normal. We changed it to another one, everything worked.
Unlocking the car may not occur due to various interferences that prevent the signal from the key fob from reaching the device on the car. Bring the key fob as close as possible to the device in your car that controls the alarm system and make another attempt to unlock the standard alarm. If the cause is not interference, your key fob may be faulty. The one-way communication key fob has an indicator light that lights up when you press any button. A dead device can be brought back into operation for a short time. To do this, you need to remove it from the key fob and deform it a little.
Programming security and service alarm functions
We looked at the main security alarm functions available in the key fob setup mode, but these are not all the available functions of the system. To configure each alarm parameter to your liking, you must go into programming mode. To do this, you will need the Starline A93 programming table and perform the following steps:
Starline a93 programming table
- Turn off the ignition and press the service button 5 times.
- Turn on the ignition, 5 siren signals and a characteristic sound signal from the key fob will sound, confirming entry into the programming mode.
- By short pressing buttons 2 and 3, you need to select the “AF” item (to set up security and service functions) and press the third button, first long, then short. In this case, the display will indicate the first function of the programming table number 1.
- To exit the programming mode, you must turn off the ignition by turning the key, or without touching anything, wait for the system to automatically exit this mode.
For table number 2 (programming engine starting functions), the process of setting up Starline A93 occurs in a similar way. The only difference is that in the third paragraph you need to select “SF” instead of “AF”.
Using an example, let's look at setting the “programmable neutral” function. To do this, follow steps 1-3 to enter the programming mode according to the second table. Then, by briefly pressing buttons 2 and 3, select function 15, which is responsible for the “programmable neutral” mode. Next, using those buttons 2 and 3, you need to select a function option, for example, 3, and the screen should display the value “15-4”, where the number 15 means the serial number of the function, and the number 4 is the option for performing the function.
