The car operates stably due to the fact that it contains fluids that perform lubricating, cooling and other functions. After a certain time, oils lose their properties and must be replaced. One of these fluids is transmission oil for automatic transmissions in Hyundai Accent.
Changing the automatic transmission oil in a Hyundai Accent is one of the most important stages of scheduled maintenance, which you can handle on your own if you follow all the recommendations and instructions.
The process of changing the oil in an automatic transmission
Changing the oil in a Hyundai Accent automatic transmission is quite easy with your own hands. The process is a little similar to changing the oil, but has some subtleties and nuances of the procedure. So, let's start changing the oil in the Hyundai Accent automatic transmission:
- Remove the engine protection.
Install the handbrake and neutral gear of the automatic transmission. Disconnect the box protection located at its bottom.
- We are looking for a drain plug.
After this, unscrew the automatic transmission drain bolt, remove the drain channel cover, and place some container to drain the used oil. Please note one important nuance: the waste liquid is at a high temperature, since you have just allowed the box to warm up well. Be careful not to burn your hands.
- Drain the oil. Be sure to buy 2 liters of oil.
Now unscrew and remove the automatic transmission pan, drain the remaining used oil from it. After draining is completed, thoroughly wipe the pan, magnets, and be sure to change the oil filter. And after this, you can move on to the final stage of your important work - filling in new oil. In order not to spill the “precious” liquid, it is better to use a funnel, then not a single drop of oil will spill past.
- Add oil.
Take any empty bottle, place it near the drain pipe and then start the engine. The remaining fluid from the automatic transmission cooling radiator will drain into the substituted bottle. Let the engine run for a while. Then measure the oil level again and, if necessary, add to the required volume. This completes the oil change process.
- Checking the control level.
- Everything is ready and the oil has been changed, now we put everything back together as we took it apart.
Preparing tools, materials and starting replacement
To easily change the oil, you must have a set of consumables, a set of tools and accessories. To replace you will need:
- Container for draining oil.
- Funnel for pouring liquid.
- Slotted screwdriver
- A set of heads (the set should contain a 17 socket head).
- Tubular socket wrench size 10.
- Hammer or wooden mallet.
- Original Hyundai sealant (catalog number 2145133A02).
- Pan gasket (catalog number 45285-22010).
- Hyundai automatic transmission oil filter.
- Hose.
- Wooden block.
- Solvent.
- Cotton rags.
The replacement procedure requires special attention and takes a lot of time. It is better to carry out independent replacement with a partner. First you need to warm up your car well. To do this, you need to drive 8-12 kilometers in various operating modes of the engine and transmission. Next you need to drive onto an inspection hole or overpass.
The machine must be in a horizontal position.
Fix the position of the car with the handbrake, and move the gear shift lever to neutral gear.
To perform subsequent operations, it is necessary to ensure free access to the lower part of the machine. Next, remove the protection using a thin 10mm socket wrench and a slotted screwdriver. Use a wrench to unscrew the 5 fixing bolts. Using a screwdriver, remove the protective plates. You can begin draining the used hydraulic fluid.
Although one of the most popular Hyundai models debuted back in 1995, it still does not lose the interest of car enthusiasts. It was with its release that the South Korean concern began equipping its cars with power plants of its own production. The Accent sedan and hatchback stood out from their competitors with their attractive appearance, fuel efficiency and interior comfort, for which they quickly won people's love. At various times, the car was equipped with gasoline and diesel engines with a volume of 1.3-1.6 liters (85-121 hp) with manual or automatic transmission. Below is information about what kind of oil and in what quantities should be poured into the transmission.
If until 1999 the Accent had an expressive, rounded biodesign, then in 2000 it received a major update. The second generation has become more spacious, increased in size and changed in appearance. But one of the main innovations was a further reduction in gasoline consumption while simultaneously increasing environmental friendliness.
The next generation of Accent in the domestic market is better known as Verna. Its debut took place in 2006 and the model again underwent a major update - now it, both externally and internally, responded to the latest trends in the global car market. However, Verna did not gain popularity in Russia and was removed from the production line in 2010. It was replaced by the 4th Accent - Hyundai Solaris. It was more suitable for Russian operating conditions and harmoniously combined elegance of design with good power under the hood. The emphasis on domestic assembly featured a galvanized bottom and body with anti-corrosion properties. This, coupled with a powerful heating system, made the model ready to work in the coldest climates. It is not surprising that it became one of the most popular foreign cars chosen by domestic buyers.
Replacement frequency and oil filling volume in the box
At the factory, the automatic transmission oil is filled with gear lubricant for the entire period of operation of the vehicle. However, the manufacturer recommends checking the fluid level in the automatic transmission after 120,000 km or after 96 months of vehicle operation.
Automatic transmission oil.
At the same time, it happens that there is a need to change the lubricant “early”:
- Automatic transmission repair or replacement;
- leakage of fluid in the gearbox housing due to depressurization of the pan;
- extraneous sounds when the box is operating.
Answering the question of how much oil needs to be poured into the Accent automatic transmission, let’s say that 6.8 liters of ATF fluid will be needed to replace it. If you carry out a partial replacement, for example, when removing the gearbox pan, you will need to add 4 liters of oil. In case of replacement with flushing, you will need about 8 liters.
Automatic transmission oil level Hyundai Accent
Based on the fact that the four-speed automatic A4CF1-2/A4AF3 has a level dipstick, checking the Hyundai Accent oil level is carried out as follows:
- the vehicle is placed on a flat surface
- run the engine for 2 minutes
- move the automatic transmission selector to position P
- remove the oil level dipstick located under the hood
- forgive him and measure the oil
Ideally, the oil on the dipstick should be between the maximum and minimum marks. Deviation from these boundaries requires draining or adding oil to the machine.

What kind of oil to pour into an Accent automatic transmission
According to the manufacturer's regulations, the transmission oil in an automatic transmission should be changed every 90,000 km.
The manufacturer specifies the use of Mitsubishi Diamond ATF SPIII oil. Also suitable oils are Castrol Transmax ATF, Ravenol Dexron III, Shell Donax TX. For a partial replacement, 6.1 liters will be required, for a complete replacement - 9-10 liters.
The A4AF3 gearbox (namely, it is on the Accent), like many other Hyundai automatic transmissions, is designed to operate using Hyundai SP-III transmission fluid. And these are the liquids that are recommended to be poured into the machine of our accents.
Let us clarify: Diamond SP-III, Dia Queen SP-III, BP Autran SP-III, Ravenol SP-III, Chevron SP-III are absolutely identical transmission fluids that are completely compatible and can be mixed with each other in any proportions.
Any other fluids are NOT COMPATIBLE with SP-III specification fluids. Therefore, it is highly not recommended to add other types of liquids to a box filled with SP-III.

Automatic transmission oil Hyundai Accent A4CF1-2/A4AF3
The automaker installed the Korean four-speed automatic transmission A4CF1-2/A4AF3 on Hyundai Accent models with gasoline engines:
The transmission oil on which this automatic transmission operates is called Hyundai-Kia ATF SP-III, produced directly by the Japanese corporation. There is also a large series of its substitutes. For example, ZIC ATF SP-III, Liqui Moly Top Tec ATF 1200, suitable for approval.
Hyundai-Kia ATF SP-III oil - 550 rub. | Oil ZIC ATF SP-III - 500 rub. |
Why do you need to change the oil in the box?
The automatic transmission oil needs to be changed for the following reasons:
- loss of chemical properties;
- loss of technical and technological properties. Since the automatic transmission parts heat up, the oil also heats up, which means it loses its original properties;
- loss of lubricating properties.
All of the above indicators are reasons for changing the oil and you should not allow at least one of them to lead to damage to the parts located in the gearbox, since changing the oil is cheaper than changing the entire unit.
Transmission oil change interval
The manufacturer indicates 120,000 kilometers before 1 change of transmission fluid in an automatic gearbox. The operating conditions of the box in Russia do not correspond to the mild climate of Europe or Japan. Therefore, it is recommended to reduce the replacement period to:
- 60 thousand kilometers for a complete oil change in the Hyundai Accent automatic transmission;
- 30,000 km for a partial change of transmission fluid in an automatic transmission.
To severe operating conditions, apply the car owner’s not always correct, aggressive driving. And cold starts at minus thirty can destroy not only the oil, but also damage the gearbox much faster.
The time to change the lubricant in the Hyundai Accent automatic transmission came when:
- the machine overheats, and computer diagnostics show that everything is fine with the components;
- vibrations come from the automatic transmission when parked at traffic lights or traffic jams;
- you smell something burning when you check the lubricant level;
- The car switches gears with jerks and jolts.
Attention! Therefore, we change the automatic transmission oil according to the above deadline. And treat your car with care. Always warm up your car for 10 minutes before starting when it's minus thirty outside.
If you do not change the oil in the Hyundai Accent automatic transmission on time, dirty oil will lead to overheating in the summer and when climbing a hill. Overheating can lead to burning of clutches and steel discs. Valves fail, and gaskets and seals dry out to such an extent that they begin to lose lubricant. Oil starvation occurs, which further increases wear on the Hyundai Accent automatic transmission.
This is why it is so important to change the oil at the specified time. Write in the comments how long does it take to change the lubricant in a Hyundai Accent automatic?
Recommendations
The manufacturer recommends pouring only original oil into the Hyundai Accent automatic transmission because:
- it is designed specifically for this type of automatic transmission and vehicle;
- has a special chemical structure that protects parts;
- the technical and technological properties of the oil meet the plant standards;
- prevents rapid wear of parts.
The oil in the gearbox is designed to cool the elements and lubricate them, but due to heating it loses its original properties, which is the reason for replacing it.
Changing transmission lubricant in Hyundai Accent
Lubrication allows the Hyundai Accent transmission to operate smoothly and effectively change torque. The functioning of mechanics/automation is directly dependent on the properties of the motor oil that is poured into it.
Changing the oil in a Hyundai Accent gearbox must be done correctly and in a timely manner. Only in this case will your vehicle last a long time.
Selection of oil fluid and required tools
Today there are many different lubricants for Accent gearboxes. They are divided into categories according to the accepted specifications. You need to be able to choose the right lubricant for a particular car.
If you read the operating manual, you can understand what consumables the car manufacturer recommends to put into the Hyundai Accent automatic. These are Mitsubishi Diamond SP-3 and ZIK SP-3. The car manufacturer is not responsible for the consequences of using oil fluids other than those specified.
The frequency with which it is necessary to change the oil in the Accent manual transmission is ninety thousand kilometers or once every six years. It is advisable to use “Hyundai Genuine Pats 75w85”, “TGO-7”, “ZIK GF TOP 75w85”.
To change the oil in an automatic/manual transmission you will need:
- pallet cover;
- sealant;
- Hyundai oil filter;
- funnel;
- fuel hose;
- flat screwdriver;
- key "for seventeen";
- thin ten-point wrench with extension;
- hammer;
- wooden beam;
- buckets for old grease.

Automation
It is worth noting that it is possible to change the oil in a Hyundai Accent automatic transmission either completely or partially. Next, you can familiarize yourself with the full shift algorithm. It looks complicated, but in reality the procedure is quite easy, although it takes a lot of time. To make it easier to change the oil in the box yourself, you can call a partner.
- Warm up the vehicle by driving 10 km.
- Place the machine horizontally on an overpass/special ditch.
- Engage the handbrake and place the transmission selector in neutral.
- Access to the automatic gearbox is from the bottom of the car. It is closed with a special plate. Remove it using a ten key and a screwdriver. Unscrew 5 bolts with a wrench, remove the pistons with a screwdriver.
- Unscrew the drain cover bolt with a “seventeen” wrench. Before removing the plug, prepare a bucket for the used oil product. Wait until all the liquid has drained from the unit. It will take a couple of minutes. Remember that car oil is very hot.
- Now we need to remove the transmission pan. It is secured with thirteen bolts, which are unscrewed with a ten key. Probably, the pan cannot be removed immediately due to the sealant. Place a wooden beam against the side of the pallet, hit it with a hammer, holding the bottom of the pallet.
- Drain the grease that remains in the pan, wash it, and wipe off the sealant. Clean the magnets from metal shavings.
- Remove the oil filter installed in the gearbox. Using a ten key, unscrew the three bolts, place the bucket, remove the last bolt.
- Clean the crankcase surface from hardened sealant and degrease it.
- Install a new oil filter.
- Place the pan back, first degreasing the area for the sealant.
- Pour as much oil into the gearbox as you drained.
- Remove the drain hose from the radiator that cools the oil, install a fuel hose instead, one end of which is placed in a liter bottle.
- Start the engine. Wait until the bottle is full.
- Pour a liter of motor oil into the oil filler neck. Repeat the procedure of draining the lubricant into the bottle and pouring it into the neck until clean consumables begin to flow into the container.
- Return the drain hose to its place.
- Drive the car for a couple of kilometers, check the amount of oil fluid. If it is not enough, top up.
How much oil is needed for a Hyundai Accent automatic transmission?
Let's consider the required volume of transmission oil for the Hyundai Accent automatic transmission of all generations of cars.
Generation 1 (1994-2000)
- Oil volume in automatic transmission with engine 1.5 - 4.5 liters.
Generation 2 (2000-2005)
- Oil volume in automatic transmission with engine 1.3 - 4.5 liters.
- Oil volume in automatic transmission with engine 1.5 - 4.5 liters.
- The oil volume in an automatic transmission with a 1.6 engine is 4.5 liters.
Generation 3 (2006-2011)
- The oil volume in an automatic transmission with a 1.4 engine is 6.1 liters.
Generation 4 (2010-2017)
- The oil volume in an automatic transmission with a 1.6 engine is 6.1 liters.
Checking the level
The Hyundai Accent automatic transmission is one of those gearboxes that has a dipstick. Therefore, checking the level and condition of the transmission fluid will not be difficult even for a beginner.
The steps of the procedure are as follows:
- Warm up Hyundai Accent vehicles.
- Drive it for about five kilometers so that the oil becomes liquid and penetrates all components of the device.
- Stop on a level surface. Turn off the engine.
- Open the hood and unscrew the cap with the oil dipstick.
- Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a lint-free cloth.
- Insert the dipstick back into the hole in the automatic transmission and tighten it.
- Unscrew and remove. Look at the level. If it stands on o, then there is no shortage of oil. If it is lower, add about a liter of fresh oil to the automatic transmission.
Full and partial oil change in automatic transmission Hyundai Santa Fe
In addition to the level, pay attention to the color and quality of the lubricant. Transmission fluid should not have a burning smell, be black or have metallic impurities. If you find any of the above defects, then you need to change the oil in the Hyundai Accent automatic transmission.
