It consists of a supporting frame, which is attached to the car body, and a connecting hook with a ball (diameter - 50 mm). The design of the tow bar is regulated by Gosstandart 28248-89. The choice of towbar depends on the make and modification of the car. Renault Logan is a French budget car of class “B”. The main production is located at a plant in Romania, but since 2005 the model has also been produced in Russia (at the Aftoframos and AvtoVAZ enterprises). But if you were initially confused by how much the kit with a trailer hitch costs and you didn’t take it, then over time you’ll have to choose a towing device yourself.

How to make a towbar for Logan

It’s not difficult to make a tow bar yourself, the main thing is to know how to use the drawings and that you have a welding machine and an angle grinder at hand.

First, it is necessary to manufacture the main part of the future towbar - a power beam that will transfer force from the hook to the vehicle body.

Then the side bracket is made. This part will allow you to secure the power beam to the car body.

The next step is the tow hook that the trailer will hitch to. Typically, this part is made from a piece of pipe, which must be bent with a pipe bender. After this, the ball is welded to the hook.

Next, the flange and cheek are prepared.

Guided by the above drawings, you can easily make a tow bar yourself. After this, regardless of whether you bought the hitch or made it yourself, the product must be installed.

Installation of electrical equipment

How to install a tow bar

The standard towbar kit includes everything you need, you just need to arm yourself with a Phillips and flathead screwdriver, as well as socket and socket wrenches. After this, you need to drive the car onto an overpass or pit. Although Logan's ground clearance allows you to use bricks, with which you slightly raise the rear of the car.

Carefully read the supplied diagram if you are installing a ready-made trailer hitch.

After that, clear the trunk of unnecessary junk, especially on the sides, and follow these steps:

  • Remove the muffler hangers, starting from the middle of the car and ending with the elements located at the muffler itself. To make parts easy to remove, use any lubricant.
  • Disconnect the muffler, leaving it on the rear beam.
  • Find the technological holes provided by the manufacturer on the side members in the trunk and remove the plugs from them. To do this, just pry them off with a flat-head screwdriver.
  • Find the holes in the side member that are hidden under the protective film. Using a Phillips screwdriver, push them inside the trunk, this is the easiest way to break through the film. Repeat the procedure on the opposite side.
  • Assemble the tow bar starting with the side plates to which the center cross member is attached. However, do not over-tighten the bolts.
  • Adjust the position of the ball. This element should only be located along the longitudinal axis of the machine.
  • Install the tow hook.
  • Install the platform provided for the outlet.
  • Make sure that everything is installed level, after which you can safely tighten the bolts.

After this, you can return the muffler to its place. However, be sure to wipe the body kits to clean them of grease and other materials.

All that remains is to connect the towbar socket.

Electrical connection

Some car owners prefer to use the socket only when directly transporting the trailer. This is due to the fact that when driving over rough terrain or during “unsuccessful” parking, it is this element that suffers first. The socket can be connected to the vehicle's power supply and stored in the trunk.

Healthy! Before connecting the towbar socket, disconnect the vehicle battery. To do this, just remove the negative terminal.

To connect to the car network, you only need to connect a socket from the trailer hitch itself to one of the rear lights. Electrics are connected according to the following diagram.

Self installation process

To begin installation, you need to empty the trunk of unnecessary things, and lift the rear of the Renault Logan car. The further process is as follows:

  1. Remove the muffler hangers
    . You should start from the middle of the car, and then at the element itself.
  2. Remove the rubber plugs.
    They are located in the side members in the trunk. They can be slightly pryed using a flat screwdriver.
  3. Search for holes in the spar.

I decided to expand the functionality of my car with a trailer, because... The harvest from the dacha is scheduled to be removed soon.

Based on the characteristics and reviews, I chose the towbar from the trusted manufacturer Bosal, towbar model 1418-A for Logan phase 1 and 2 (with electrics included).

1. It’s much more convenient to work together. I worked alone and had a lot of trouble. Especially when tightening the fasteners to the body side members. Doing this alone is EXTREMELY inconvenient (and generally only possible if you have long and tenacious arms).

2. It is highly advisable to secure the spacer bushings to the bolt entering the spar, for example, by placing pieces of wire insulation under them. Otherwise, one awkward movement, and the bushings will remain in the side members (most likely forever).

3. The cross beam is quite heavy in weight, especially when working alone - during installation I was helped by a stool, on which I placed the opposite end of the beam while I was screwing it on. DO NOT TIGHTEN the bolts until you have assembled the 2 mounts to the side members and the cross member. Once assembled, tighten alternately on each side.

4. On specialized forums, it is recommended to fill the towbar socket with lithol on the inside to prevent oxidation of the contacts and increase service life. I followed this advice. Moreover, I coated the contacts on the outside as well. If the measure does not justify itself, I will move the socket to the trunk and will only take it outside when transporting a trailer.

5. Complete wiring is connected to both lights. From the left is taken: turn signal, brake signals, fog lamp and ground. On the right is the turn signal, dimensions and license plate illumination. I ran the wires along the top of the cross beam, securing them with zip ties. On the left - I led it into the trunk through a rubber plug for the license plate light wire, on the right - by making a hole in the plug in the “pocket” of the trunk.

6. It seemed to me more convenient and faster to connect to the wiring of the lamps using a traditional good twist. With a sharp knife, I stripped 0.5 cm of insulation from the wires without cutting them. According to reviews, the clamping terminals-couplers included in the kit often break wire strands. They were sent to reserve.

7. It’s impossible to work alone without a ratchet. And in general, get a ratchet and make many men’s hobbies 100,500 times easier for yourself
