How to make a cool tuning of a Lada Priora with your own hands

The first Lada Priora rolled off the assembly line in 2007. A couple of years later, this car became very popular among domestic car enthusiasts, mainly because of its affordable price. At the same time, many car owners strive to give their Priora individuality. Make it look more solid and more expensive. Tuning helps them with this. Let's figure out what this procedure is.

  • Engine change

    The Priora engine provides ample opportunities for tuning. Most often, car enthusiasts bore the cylinder block and install shortened pistons in the engine. Such pistons, in turn, require replacing the crankshaft. As a result, the characteristics of the engine are completely changed, and its power can increase by 35%. But there is a minus: fuel consumption will also increase. Therefore, not all car enthusiasts decide to undertake such radical engine tuning. Many people limit themselves to installing mechanical compressors in the engine, which can increase engine power by 10–15%.

    Cylinder boring is one of the most labor-intensive engine tuning options.

    Another inexpensive way to increase the dynamic parameters of the Priora is to work with a carburetor. In this device, the jets and acceleration pump are changed (most often, parts manufactured by BOSCH are installed in place of standard spare parts). Then fine adjustment of the fuel level is performed. As a result, the car accelerates twice as fast.

    Increased sound insulation

    It was already mentioned above that the noise level in the Priora’s cabin is quite high. Therefore, drivers usually do not limit themselves to soundproofing the dashboard, and decorate the entire cabin with sound-absorbing material. Here's what you need for this:

    • vibroplast. This material has excellent sound-absorbing properties. In addition, it dampens vibration well. The optimal thickness of vibroplast sheets for the Priora interior is 5 mm;
    • isolon. The purpose of this material is to dampen those vibrations that the vibroplast did not dampen. That is why vibroplast and isolon are always used together. The thickness of the isolon must be at least 7 mm;
    • foam rubber The noise-absorbing properties of this material are good, but it practically does not dampen vibrations. Therefore, it makes no sense to use it without a vibroplast. The optimal thickness of foam rubber is 10 mm.

    Sequencing

    Before starting work to improve sound insulation, the car owner will have to almost completely disassemble the interior of the Priora. It will be necessary to dismantle and remove all the seats, remove the dashboard and steering wheel. Then you will have to remove all the upholstery from the doors and floor.

    Before starting work, you will have to remove literally everything from the interior

    1. After complete disassembly of the interior, it is necessary to prepare glue for the soundproofing material. It is prepared on the basis of construction mastic, to which white spirit is added. The mastic is mixed at the same time. The result should be a composition similar in consistency to thick sour cream.
    2. First, vibroplast is glued to the doors and to the front wall of the engine compartment under the dashboard. The mastic is applied to the vibroplast with a small paint brush. Then the sheets of material are laid on the floor of the cabin, and the place under which the Priora muffler passes should be especially carefully pasted over.
    3. The second stage is laying the isolon. Fragments of the appropriate shape are glued on top of the vibroplast using mastic.
    4. A layer of foam rubber is glued onto the isolon, and not mastic is used for gluing, but ordinary universal glue (mastic with white spirit can be absorbed into the foam rubber, negating its soundproofing properties).
    5. Only the doors and the wall of the engine compartment under the panel should be covered with foam rubber. There is no point in laying foam rubber on the floor: under the feet of the driver and passengers it will quickly crumble and stop absorbing sounds.

    Chassis

    When it comes to changes in the chassis, the first thing drivers do is remove the standard brake booster and replace it with a vacuum one, always with two membranes. This doubles the reliability of the brakes. Stiffer springs and ceramic-coated discs are installed in the clutch basket, and a lightweight flywheel is installed on the crankshaft. This measure significantly reduces the vehicle acceleration time without premature wear of the clutch and gearbox.

    The rear wheels of Prioras are often equipped with disc brakes from “tens”

    Finally, the rear drum brakes are removed from the Priora and replaced with disc brakes from the VAZ 2110. The drum brake design is no longer used almost anywhere, since it is considered obsolete. Installing a disc system on the rear wheels increases braking reliability and requires virtually no modification.

    Let's sum it up

    Tuning the Lada Priora Sedan has a wide range of areas, from inexpensive design changes and improving its comfort to serious changes in the operation of the engine and chassis of the car. Almost all changes can be done independently if you have the necessary tools and the desire to transform your car.

    Which tuning option to choose and what to change depends only on your imagination and the thickness of your wallet. Plan and implement your creative ideas so that your Priora Sedan will delight you and those around you.

    Improved appearance

    Here's what drivers do to improve the appearance of the Priora:

    • New bumpers are installed on the car (sometimes complete with thresholds). You can buy all this in specialized stores. Most often, lightweight kits from the Sniper or I Robot series are purchased from Priora. They are made of plastic, the cost of one bumper starts from 4,500 rubles;
    • spoiler installation. The products of AVR, which produces fiberglass spoilers, are very popular. Or the spoiler can be made to order at a tuning studio. But this is a very expensive pleasure;
    • replacing disks. On early Priora models, the wheels were steel, and their appearance left much to be desired. Therefore, tuning enthusiasts try to replace them with cast ones, since they are more beautiful and lighter. But for all its attractiveness, a cast disk, unlike a steel one, is very fragile. And its maintainability tends to zero;
    • replacement or modification of mirrors. The most inexpensive option is to install special overlays purchased in the store on standard mirrors. This simple procedure radically changes the appearance of your side mirrors. The second option is to install mirrors from other cars. Now that AvtoVAZ has updated its model range, mirrors from Granta or Vesta are often installed on Prioras. But before installation, they will have to be modified, since they are attached to the body differently;
    • replacing door handles. The standard handles on the Priora are trimmed with ordinary plastic, usually black. And they look very old-fashioned. Therefore, tuning enthusiasts often replace them with chrome-plated handles, “recessed” into the car body. As an option, the handles can be finished in carbon fiber, or completely match the color of the car body. There is no shortage of door handles today. And on the counter of any spare parts store, a car enthusiast will always be able to choose the option that suits him.

    Interior tuning

    Here are typical options for tuning the Priora's interior:

    • change of upholstery. The standard upholstery on the Priora is regular leatherette with fragments of plastic. This option does not suit everyone, and drivers often remove almost all plastic inserts, replacing them with leatherette. Sometimes carpet is used as upholstery material, although such upholstery is not durable. Interiors are very rarely decorated with genuine leather, since this pleasure is not cheap. Such finishing may well cost half the cost of the car;

      The upholstery in this cabin is carpet with plastic inserts of the same color.

    • replacing the braid on the steering wheel. In any tuning store, the driver can choose a steering braid to suit his taste, from almost any material - from artificial leather to genuine leather. There is no need to make this finishing element yourself;
    • dashboard trim. The most popular option is vinyl wrapping. Cheap and cheerful. Although the service life of even very good film does not exceed six years. Much less often the dashboard is trimmed with carbon fiber. To apply such a coating you will need a specialist with the appropriate equipment. And his services will cost the driver a pretty penny;
    • interior lighting. In the standard version, only the driver and front passenger have lamps. But even this lighting is not very bright. To somehow correct this situation, drivers often install lighting for the feet and glove compartment. It is performed using ordinary LED strips, the cost of which starts from 500 rubles. Some car enthusiasts go even further and install floor lighting. It can be useful if you urgently need to find some fallen thing in the dark.

      Floor lighting is especially useful when the driver drops something in the dark

    VAZ 2171

    Our answer to “foreign cars”. History and tuning of LADA Priora 2171

    Story

    The history of the Lada Priora family began in April 2007, when the front-wheel drive Priora 2170 sedan was born. After that, in February 2008, serial production of the Priora 2172 hatchback began. Then in 2008, but in October, at the auto show in Krasnodar there was The LADA Priora 2171 station wagon was also presented; it was released on the market the following year, 2009, on May 27.

    If the predecessor of the first sedan was the VAZ 2110, then the Volga station wagon was created on the basis of the more advanced VAZ 2111, the production license for which was sold to the Ukrainian plant in Cherkassy in 2009.

    It should be noted that, perhaps, the greatest praise was given to

    LADA Priora 2171. The manufacturer took for the car all the best that VAZ had, added more than 200 original parts, equipped the car with modern systems and mechanisms that were familiar to domestic car owners mainly from foreign-made cars, and significantly redesigned the interior and exterior design. At the same time, not only domestic professionals worked on the car, but craftsmen from Italy, France, Germany, Japan and Korea.

    LADA Priora 2171 is represented by a fairly powerful (98 hp) and reliable 4-cylinder 16-valve engine with a volume of 1.6 liters. The maximum possible speed is 183 km/h. Fuel consumption in the urban cycle, according to official data from the manufacturer, is 9.8 l/100 km, in the combined cycle – 7.2 l/100 km, and in the suburban cycle it is even less – only 5.6 l/100 km. The gearbox, as in other models, is represented by mechanics with 5 forward and 1 reverse speeds.

    The eighth generation anti-lock braking system, created by specialists, deserves special praise. Multiple test drives confirmed the high quality and functionality of ABS, which demonstrated truly excellent vehicle handling on slippery surfaces.

    In the interior of the Priora 2171, the rear seats have become divided, a tilt-adjustable steering column has appeared, firmer seats (drivers with lower back problems will certainly appreciate all the benefits), armrests between the front seats with a compartment for all sorts of small items. True, the car still remains not very comfortable for people with a height of 185-190 cm - the knees still rest against the steering wheel and you have to align it with a “bus” seating position, which is not convenient for everyone.

    As for such an important detail as the trunk, it has a volume of 444 liters (up to the shelf), which, of course, is not too much, but in principle it is expected. The shelf in some modifications is rigid, and in some it is fashionable “a la blinds”; the door opens wide and conveniently. Special fasteners have appeared for the rigging net, which, however, will have to be purchased separately, but still the problem of small things eternally “dangling” in the trunk can be considered solved.

    Interesting Facts

    According to the developers, LADA Priora 2171 was to become the most equipped model in its line, and this desire was fully realized - the station wagon is presented in two, and not three, like other models, trim levels - “norm” and “luxury”. The simpler “standard” remained the privilege of the sedan and hatchback.

    At the same time, the comfortable “top” version is distinguished by the presence of such additional controls as, for example, a “rain sensor”, capable of being adjusted in accordance with several modes and independently responding to “bad weather”; automatic headlight switching system that reacts to light; as well as parking sensors, which makes parking much easier. In addition, the “luxury” is distinguished by increased passive protection measures in the form of an airbag for the front passenger, as well as a pretensioner for the front seat belts.

    VAZ plans to further improve its brainchild, equipping it with a 1.8-liter engine, automatic transmission and side airbags.

    Tuning VAZ 2171

    Like upgrading any other make and model of car, tuning the Priora 2171 can only affect the external appearance of the car, or it can also affect technical issues. And in that other case, with the support of specialists, you can create an almost new car.

    Thus, styling the Priora 2171 will allow you to create a bright individual image of the car by tinting the windows, installing aerodynamic body kits and new thresholds, a spoiler, a decorative trim on the external heater intake, installing forged wheels and low-profile tires, tuning the headlights, as well as decorating the body with vinyl. At the same time, it will be necessary to implement tuning of the Priora 2171 interior, replacing the original upholstery with a material that is brighter in texture and color, and also decorating the dashboard with original wood or metal inserts.

    If you need to get a truly powerful car, then Priora 2171 technical tuning will come to the rescue, the limits of which in many cases are limited only by the professionalism of the master. The key role here, of course, will be played by tuning the Priora 2171 engine - the volume of the 16-valve engine of 16.l can be safely increased to 1.8l, it would not be amiss to modify the cylinder head by polishing and enlarging the channels, installing lightweight valves and flywheels, sports receiver, etc. The throttle valve and the drive supercharger filter can be installed at the same time. Having increased the engine power, it will then be necessary to carry out tuning of the Priora 2171 suspension and tuning of the Priora 2171 brake system in order to raise the car’s handling and stability to the desired level. For the same purpose, tuning of the Priora 2171 transmission is carried out - installing a short-throw rocker, using a self-locking differential, etc.

    Our highly qualified specialists will help you in all matters of car restyling, as well as its diagnostics and maintenance, and will provide professional consulting services.

    Lighting system

    First of all, the headlights are modified:

    • replacement of standard lamps. Initially, Priora is equipped with conventional halogen incandescent lamps, which cannot boast of either particular brightness or long service life. Therefore, instead of them, drivers install more durable and brighter LED bulbs;
    • replacing lenses in headlights. Usually new lenses come with xenon illumination. On the one hand, it looks very beautiful. On the other hand, too bright headlights may raise questions among traffic police officers. Therefore, car owners prefer not to take risks, and after installing new lenses, they darken them slightly using special sprays that can be purchased at the same store.

    Trunk

    Many people prefer to install speakers complete with a subwoofer in the trunk. This is done with both sedans and hatchbacks. And this is the most preferred option for lovers of powerful sound. There is only one problem: it will be impossible to use the trunk for its intended purpose. There simply won't be any room left in it.

    Powerful audio systems are installed in the trunks of both hatchbacks and sedans

    Not everyone is ready to make such sacrifices. Therefore, instead of powerful audio systems, LED lighting made from the strips mentioned above is often installed in the trunk. This is a very common phenomenon, because the standard lighting in the trunk and rear parcel shelf has never been bright.

    The low landing of this Priora immediately catches your eye.

    The bumpers and sills of this hatchback are one of the “I am a robot” kits

    This hatchback sits very low and has a small plastic spoiler at the rear.

    The combination of orange and black colors creates a very bright contrast that emphasizes the individuality of the car.

    Some hatchback owners install an additional spoiler above the rear window

    On sedans, the design of the front doors is often changed so that they move up

    The color of the spoiler matches the color of the sedan, so the spoiler is perceived as a single whole with the car

    Another contrasting two-tone low-slung sedan

    Sometimes very high spoilers made of carbon fiber are installed on sedans

    This sedan has a massive plastic spoiler and the doors open upwards.

    So, the car owner is quite capable of changing the appearance of the Priora and making the car more beautiful. This rule applies to both sedans and hatchbacks. The main thing in this matter is a sense of proportion. Without it, the car can turn into a misunderstanding on wheels.

    Dashboard upgrade

    The main problem with the Priora dashboard is that it creaks a lot. The entire panel is made of fragile plastic. This is the source of creaking and rattling. Car enthusiasts who are tired of listening to these sounds glue all the joints on the dashboard with bitoplast (an alternative material is modelin, but the sound-absorbing properties of bitoplast are still better).

    How to do

    Before gluing, the panel will have to be removed from the car. To remove it, you only need a Phillips screwdriver.

    To remove the entire panel, you only need a screwdriver

    1. All joints and places of contact of plastic parts are covered with a layer of bitoplast. Any universal glue will be suitable for this operation.

      Bitoplast is ideal for gluing panels

    2. Particular attention should be paid to the edges of the air ducts. Practice shows that it is the air ducts that make the loudest noise, especially when the air conditioner is turned on.

      The edge of the air duct should be glued especially carefully

    3. In some cases, electrical wiring harnesses are also wrapped in bitoplast (during movement they often shake and knock on the panel and walls of the air ducts).
    4. After gluing, the panel is reassembled.
