The AvtoVAZ advertising campaign preceding the release of the new Lada Granta model announced almost unlimited possibilities for tuning improvements to the car. Constructors and designers made every effort to preserve the functional characteristics of the brand, leaving a wide “field of activity” for external and technical tuning.
But it didn't work out as expected. For reasons that are not entirely clear, the mass production of tuning parts was suspended. Therefore, the expectations of most fans of VAZ cars were not met. They tried to find a way out of this situation in different ways: some abandoned the idea of improving the new Lada, others tried to squeeze the maximum useful out of the available means with their own hands. It’s interesting, but the budget Lada Granta, which was launched into mass production, was already the object of factory tuning. Designers worked hard on its interior and exterior. The car from VAZ Grant, the photo of which is presented in the article, can be subjected to injector changes. However, on a new machine, carrying out such work may be problematic. You can upgrade the carburetor system by removing the spring from the vacuum drive on the primary throttle chamber. This will allow you to see what improvements have occurred in the dynamics of the car.
However, you should be prepared for the fact that gasoline consumption will be slightly increased. It is possible to increase the directed volume of heated air to one specific point. This can be achieved by replacing the standard hose. Instead, you must use the same one, only it must be longer.
Film tinting
First, let's decide on a suitable shade. Automotive stores offer a wide selection of this product. You will definitely need: a stationery knife, a spray bottle, an electric hair dryer, an alcohol solution (one hundred grams of pure alcohol for half a liter of water), a flexible scraper with a felt pad. We wash the headlight, wipe it with alcohol, and measure. Cut out the film with an overlap.
We treat with a water-alcohol solution using a spray bottle, direct the hair dryer and apply the film. Smooth the surface with a squeegee, expelling any remaining liquid and air. Cut off the excess part with a knife. The film will protect the surface from scratches, damage and decorate the appearance of the car. With minimal effort, you will get beautiful headlights with anti-gravel function.
Technical nuances of tuning Grants
However, there is a certain audience that will choose the Lada Granta. Do-it-yourself modifications will not stand in the way of those who have been fans of the brand for many years or for those who simply do not yet have the money for a more advanced car. We are not inclined to think that instant technical tuning of a new car can bring any positive results. The car must be run in and get used to both the owner and the conditions, and after that it can be modified as necessary.
If we talk about the Granta engine, then there is no need to isolate it. Absolutely the entire AvtoVAZ model range uses engines of a similar design, originally from the twentieth century, and they, naturally, require modifications. It is useless to want enormous power from the imperfect engines of Tolyatti small cars. All we can do is make life easier for the engine, and it, in turn, will give us several horsepower, noticeable, however, only on bench measurements.

So let’s talk about all sorts of “pumping up the interior” of the Lada Grant and its modifications.
This type of car modernization is one of the most enjoyable, since you can replace the old and add a new one, in which you are surrounded by space while driving. In other words, while driving you will feel the innovations you are purchasing, which ultimately will allow you to truly choose “your plate” due to a wide range of replaceable elements, their style, color, shape and design.
Adjustment
This is a required step. Lenses in xenon headlights require adjustment after installation - this is the only way to achieve efficiency from these devices and not dazzle oncoming drivers. To set up, you need a flat vertical surface, a tape measure and something to mark the wall.
The machine is placed as close to the wall as possible. What happens next? A line is drawn on the wall surface that corresponds to the vertical axis of the machine. Then you need to drive away to a distance of 7.5 meters.
Using a tape measure, measure the distance from the ground to the center of the lens. Next, measure the distance from the lens to the vertical axis of the machine. Then a point is found on the wall, which is located at the level of the headlights. From this point, another horizontal line is drawn 3.5 centimeters downward. Two lines are lowered onto it perpendicularly - they must correspond to the centers of both lenses. The headlights are adjusted using a corrector so that the light beam is clearly at the intersection of the horizontal and vertical marks. This is how the lenses in headlights are adjusted for xenon.
Filters and exhaust system
And first of all, this is the installation of high-quality and expensive filter elements. They, like no other design element, affect the power, efficiency, and service life of the Granta engine. Installing a good zero-resistance filter will give the engine up to 10% additional oxygen, which will have a positive effect on the combustion process. The mixture will burn faster, without residues, and as a result, engine power will increase by several percent.
Tuning the exhaust system will also add a few percent of power to the engine. However, in the case of the exhaust manifold, you need to be careful and choose among the offers those companies that have already proven themselves. There is good quality steel, anti-corrosion treatment and successful exhaust routing schemes. 4-2-1 is an excellent manifold, especially well made and without the effect of parasitic swirl, it can simplify the exit of exhaust gases, and as a result, improve the purging of the cylinders at high engine speeds. We are not yet talking about refining the muffler itself, which can be either fancy or quite modest, but effective.
Lens installation
It is recommended to wear gloves when installing the lens into the headlights. This is necessary so as not to stain the lenses with dust or other dirt. The mask or body is removed from the packaging. They also take out a silicone adapter and a lens, which are inserted into the mask. They are then fastened with the supplied screws. This design is mounted in the optics housing. On the reverse side, the assembly is screwed with a contact nut. When replacing lenses in headlights, you can also use these instructions.
The decorative lighting ignition unit is glued to the optics body using double-sided tape. Next, the lamps are mounted in the lenses. All wiring is routed outside the housing. Sealant is placed in a special groove on the body, the glass is heated and glued.
If the connection between the glass and the flashlight body is unsealed or the connection is poor, the lens may sweat. This problem cannot be solved by replacing the lenses in the headlights. You need to disassemble the optics and eliminate the cracks or re-glue the glass. It is recommended to use alcohol and soft, lint-free cloths to clean the lens. After cleaning the headlight, it is better to additionally blow out the inside of the housing with a compressor to remove dust.
Exterior change
Do-it-yourself modification of the Lada Grant can begin with modifying the appearance of the car and modernizing its aerodynamic characteristics. Installing a front bumper with a modernized water intake makes it possible to provide better airflow to the brake system and power unit.
Also included in the tuning section of the model in question is the conversion of turn signals to be compatible with side lights. To work you will need a soldering iron, wires, LEDs and insulating material. A standard lamp with two contacts is changed to an analog version with three terminals by laying wiring from the dimensions to the base.
The connection diagram looks like this:
- The contact is connected to the common ground;
- In addition, through 12 V it is in contact with the dimensions (5 V) and turn signals (25 V);
- As a result, when the dimensions are activated, a lower-power filament will light up, and the turning on of the direction indicators is accompanied by the lighting of more powerful lamp filaments.
One of the conditions for the long-term service of a car is caring for its body. One of the methods that can prolong its operation is polishing. The coating prevents the formation of corrosion and refreshes the overall appearance of the machine. The car should be polished in a dry garage or outside in consistently warm, but not hot, weather.
After washing and drying the vehicle, it is necessary to apply polish to the body and, using slow movements using a machine and a special nozzle, rub the product into the body at medium speed.
To perform this type of work at home, you will need the following tools and equipment:
- Polishing machine and corresponding attachments;
- Polish;
- Water.
Wax finish is the cheapest, but requires updating after 2-3 months. Teflon polish is an analogue of the previous variation. Makes the color of the car more saturated. Withstands up to 7-8 washes without loss of effect. The best options are epoxy and varnish treatments, which have high performance and do not require updating for 6-9 months.
