The car engine is started by command on the Tomahawk 9010 alarm system by pressing the remote control button with the key icon. In accordance with the Tomahawk 9010 autostart instructions, before enabling the automatic or remote start function, the user must configure the “Program Neutral” mode. It is safer and more accurate to control the operation of the engine using the tachometer; for this you need to program the idle speed.

Engine operating parameters during autostart

List of parameters for the configured automatic launch of the alarm:

  1. The operating time of the power unit can be 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes. By default, the car alarm is set to operate for 10 minutes, but during the cold season it is recommended to increase the warm-up time.
  2. Temperature mode for starting the power unit automatically. This parameter is measured by the control unit in the vehicle interior, and not by the engine. The user can adjust the temperature from -5 to -30 degrees. Normally, the power unit should turn on at -10°C.
  3. According to the application manual, the user can adjust the cranking time of the starter mechanism of the crankshaft. This parameter is 0.8, 1.2, 1.8 or 3 seconds. Initially, the starter is set to autoload for 0.8 s. If the option of monitoring the engine using tachometer signals is used, the alarm will automatically deactivate the unit, so it is recommended to set the interval to 3 s. If startup failures occur, with each subsequent start attempt, this parameter increases by 0.2 s.
  4. The user can set one of the options for monitoring engine operation - by mains voltage, tachometer or engine fluid pressure indicator.
  5. If the car owner has to add an engine blocker bypass to the ignition system, then it is necessary to adjust the duration of operation of the second additional channel. The operating time can be 0.8, 10 or 30 seconds. You can make the channel function for the entire time after automatic start. The setting of this parameter depends on the engine blocker of a certain car model.
  6. Control of the IGN2 power output on the ignition switch and central locking (CL) during automatic start. You can configure the central locking to lock or unlock after startup.
  7. Set start delay between activation of the ignition and starter mechanism. For power units running on gasoline, this parameter should be 2 s, and for diesel engines - from 2 to 10 s.

User Ivan Vasilyevich in his video reported on setting up a remote engine start on the Tomahawk alarm system, as well as on the engine operating parameters.

Idle speed programming procedure

If the engine operation is monitored using a tachometer, then in accordance with the Tomahawk 9010 autostart instructions, you need to do the following:

  1. The car's ignition system turns on.
  2. The “Override” emergency mode activation button is pressed nine times. If the installation of the security system was not carried out independently, then you need to check with the specialist where the key is located. It is recommended to install it discreetly, so most likely the control element is located under the instrument panel. If you have any difficulties with the search, you should check each wire coming from the microprocessor.
  3. The ignition is turned off. The siren should emit nine beeps.
  4. The user starts the engine with the key.
  5. After reducing the idle speed to optimal, the emergency mode button “Overr>How to enable autostart?

The engine cannot be started if:

  • ignition on;
  • the hood is open;
  • the car is not on the handbrake;
  • service mode is enabled;
  • The pre-launch procedure has not been completed (for manual transmission).

Performing "Software Neutral"

Setting the “Program Neutral” mode:

  1. On a car with the engine running, the handbrake is raised.
  2. On the pager, a key with a symbol in the form of a key is “clicked”. After the “click”, an indicator in the form of smoke from the exhaust pipe will appear on the remote control display. The pager should also emit a melodic signal.
  3. Within the next 30 seconds, the user must remove the key from the ignition and leave the car. The engine will remain running. After closing the last door, the alarm will turn off the power unit and activate the machine protection mode.

Setting up autorun Tomahawk TW-9010, TW-9020, TW-9030

These older alarms use the Override button (traditionally called Valet on other alarms) for programming. To enter the programming mode, press Override 6 times with the ignition off. Next, turn on the ignition, the siren will confirm the transition to the settings menu with 6 beeps. Select the appropriate function by pressing the Override button the number of times corresponding to the function number. After this, Tomahawk will report the number of the selected function in the form of a set of signals, where the short one is 1 and the long one is 5 (a series of two long and three short signals means that function 13 is selected). Next, by pressing the button on the key fob, the desired function value is set from 1 to 4, where 1 is the arming button, 2 is the autostart button, 3 is trunk opening and 4 is “crossed out speaker.”

The autostart operation of the Tomahawk TW-9010 concerns the following functions:

  1. Engine operating time – 5,10,15 or 20 minutes. The default is 10 minutes, in winter it is better to increase this time.
  2. Temperature for auto warm-up. Please note that it is measured by the alarm system in the cabin, and not by the engine. Setting options are from minus 5 to minus 30 degrees, the default is set to minus 10.
  3. Starter cranking time: 0.8 s, 1.2 s, 1.8 s or 3 s. By default, the starter turns on for 0.8 seconds. When using tachometer control, the Tomahawk will automatically disengage the starter when it detects engine starting, so set the crank time to 3 seconds. With other control methods, on the first start attempt, the starter is always turned on for a specified time, and each subsequent start attempt lasts 0.2 s longer. In this case, it is prohibited to set the scrolling time to 3 seconds!
  4. Engine control option. There are three options: 1 (default) – based on the voltage in the on-board network, 2 – based on the oil pressure warning lamp, 3 – based on the tachometer signal. Strive to use the third method, as it is the most accurate and safe for the starter. To correctly determine the start by tacho signal, the alarm needs to learn idle speed. To do this, when you turn on the ignition, press the Override button 9 times, then turn off the ignition, listen to 9 siren signals and start the engine. As soon as the engine speed drops to normal, press the Override button once until the beep sounds. If instead of a single signal the siren gives 4, this means that the selected tacho signal source is not recognized correctly and cannot be used by it.
  5. duration of activation of additional channel 2, to which the immobilizer crawler is connected if necessary. Switching on options: 0.8 s, 10 s, 30 s or constant switching on for the entire autostart time. The choice depends on the operation of the immobilizer in a particular car: if the car stalls after working for some time, change the function value from the default 0.8 s to a longer time until you achieve normal operation.
  6. control of the IGN 2 power cable and central locking during autostart. If your vehicle has two independent ignition switch circuits, you will need to use circuit IGN 2 and program it accordingly. In option 1, the IGN 2 circuit is turned on, the central locking does not lock at the time of autostart (more precisely, it retains the state at the time of autostart). In option 2, the IGN 2 circuit is disabled, as is the autostart control. In option 3, IGN 2 is used and an additional locking impulse is sent to the central locking system. In option 4, only the central locking control is activated.
  7. delay between turning on the ignition and starter during autostart. Option 1 is a two-second delay for gasoline engines, option 2 is a 10-second delay for diesel engines with glow plugs.

For Tomahawk TW-9020 and TW-9030, the autorun settings menu is different.

  1. Operating mode of the IGN 3 output (turns off when the starter is running/does not turn off when the starter is running/turns on for the entire time the starter is running/turns on before the starter).
  2. Monitoring engine operation and starter activation time. In options 1 to 3, the alarm detects the engine starting based on the oil pressure lamp, the starter is turned on for 0.8, 1.2 or 2 s. In option 4, control is carried out using a tacho signal, the maximum scrolling time is 3.6 s. There is no voltage control in the network, as on the TW-9010.
  3. Type of gearbox and mode of preparation for autostart. Option 1 – automatic transmission, no need for “soft neutral”. Option 2 – manual transmission and automatic program neutral, which is activated every time the handbrake is pulled while the engine is running. Options 3 and 4 are a “safe algorithm”, when after pulling the handbrake you must press and hold the disarm button until the sound signal sounds, and then press it again.
  4. Engine type (1 – petrol, others – diesel).
  5. Turbo timer operation (off/1 minute/3 minutes/6 minutes).
  6. Warm-up time (5/10/15/20 minutes).
  7. Periodic autostart interval (1 hour/2 hours/4 hours/24 hours).
  8. Arming during auto start (active in option 1).
  9. Control mode for headlights or turn signals during autostart (flash/on constantly/off/off).
  10. Impulse to close the doors at the end of autostart (supplied in option 2-4).

Periodic autorun is enabled using the Override button. To enable autostart based on temperature, press the button 5 times with the ignition off; to enable daily autostart, press the button 4 times, then turn on the ignition. Now, using the Override button, you can turn on or off the selected autorun mode - after each press, Tomahawk will report the status with 1 signal (on) or two (off). To save the setting, turn off the ignition. If daily start is selected, then the car will automatically start and will start at the same time every day.

Functionality

Functions supported by Tomahawk 9.7:

  • informing the owner about events using a remote control with feedback;
  • automatic engine start (supports vehicles equipped with a start button);
  • remembering the state when the power is turned off;
  • protection of a car with a running engine;
  • support for “anti-robbery” and “panic” modes;
  • car security with sound and light signals in case of alarm;
  • support for security mode without siren;
  • built-in immobilizer;
  • A 2-stage removal of protection is provided.

Problems with autostart

Possible reasons that may affect autorun operation:

  1. The limit switch mounted on the hood shorts to ground. It is necessary to check the integrity of the device and replace it if necessary. If the trigger fails, its rod may “stick” in the lowered position. You will also need to check the wires and make sure their integrity; if the electrical circuits are damaged, they are replaced. The reason may be oxidation of the contact on the sensor; to eliminate the problem, the conductors are cleaned.
  2. There is no output in the conductors connected to the ignition switch. It is necessary to reconnect the cables in accordance with the installation and connection diagram.
  3. A “conflict” has arisen in the operation of the standard engine immobilizer and alarm immobilizer. If your car uses a keyless security system, you can leave the key in the car to troubleshoot the problem. However, this is the least safe option and may result in the vehicle being stolen. In order to eliminate the malfunction, it is necessary to install an immobilizer bypass.
  4. There is no power supplied to the ignition switch; one of the fuses has failed. Each element is subject to diagnosis and replacement in case of breakdown or burnout. Only fuses of the correct rating must be used.
  5. The ignition switch or starter mechanism is faulty. With such a problem, diagnostics of all electrical circuit contacts connected to these devices is required. The contact pad with the cylinder in the ignition switch may have worn out; this element must be replaced.
  6. Failure of the temperature controller responsible for starting the motor. The contacts on the sensor could have oxidized, causing it to not work. A detailed check of the conductors with replacement of damaged electrical circuits is required. It is recommended to additionally wrap the cables with electrical tape to prevent rapid wear and damage. A failed sensor cannot be repaired and will have to be replaced.
  7. Incorrect installation of the anti-theft system. Errors made during installation and connection will lead to current leakage, which will ultimately cause the battery to discharge. The device will need to be charged to resolve the problem. You need to make sure that the wires from the alarm are not frayed or worn out.
  8. Faulty mounting block with fuses. The elements themselves may be in working condition, but as a result of exposure to high loads, the contact path could burn out. To eliminate the malfunction, you will need to disassemble the module and replace the working platforms.
  9. Failure or incorrect operation of the microprocessor module. It is almost impossible to calculate software malfunctions without special equipment and knowledge. To determine the cause, you need to contact a specialist. The control unit may not operate as a result of oxidation or clogged contacts on the main connector. To fix the problem, you will need to clean the pad.

Ignition switch wire designations

Look at the diagram shown in the figure.

The above does not mean that both cords can be connected together and connected using the circuits discussed here. The diagrams indicate one wire (ST1) that makes up the starter power circuit. This option is suitable:

  • For all domestic cars without exception;
  • For new foreign cars;
  • For foreign cars up to 90-91 years of manufacture.

This is the paradox - the “ST2” cord is not provided in the new, as well as in the oldest models.

Diagram for TZ-9030

Here's how to connect the Tomahawk TZ-9030 main unit to the ignition switch to use autostart. Of course, after installation, you need to do programming, which is discussed below. If the use of a lineman is required, connect it to the terminal of the main alarm connector (black and red cord). The power connector, in turn, has the following wiring.

If we talk about the Tomahawk TW-9010 model, the purpose of the IGN3 pin will be different from what is being considered here.

In "Chapter 1" the designations were listed: IGN1, IGN2, ACC, starter wire (ST). The “IGN3” cord has been added here, but it replaces the ACC wire. The “blue” cord coming out of the alarm terminal block must be connected to the ACC contact, otherwise the autostart will not work. At the same time, if you make changes to the settings, the IGN3 pin can be connected to the ST2 pin. True, it is not clear how to “emulate” the ACC wire then.

A “T” connection is used when connecting to all wires except the starter. And the “ST” cord needs to be cut to connect the resulting ends with the black and yellow wires. The cable that goes to the alarm from the lock is a signal cable (thin).

Diagram for TW-9010

A non-standard method of switching starter current is typical for the following alarm model: Tomahawk TW-9010. Voltage is supplied here from the 6-pin power terminal block when autostart is performed. The rest of the time, the starter wire conducts current, even if the car alarm does not work or does not work correctly. A blocking relay is included in the gap in the standard wiring. Whether it can be removed from the scheme is unknown. It is better, therefore, to stick to the recommended option.

Video: malfunctions in Tomahawk autostart

The Samodelkin channel in its video talked about problems that can occur when implementing automatic start on the Tomahawk 9010 alarm system.

Remote engine start is a special feature that gives the car owner more comfort in using the car. You no longer have to worry about constantly warming up your car at any time of the day in winter or getting into a cold cabin.

All you have to do is put your car on autostart and you can forget about many problems. To do this, you can use Tomahawk alarms, for example, model G-9000 or others, which have proven themselves to be excellent among many car owners.

Autorun function

ATTENTION! A completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption has been found! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also didn’t believe it until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline! Read more"

Tomahawk autostart allows you to start warming up the car from a distance using the key fob buttons or using a timer. To do this, you need to make the appropriate settings. At the same time, the alarm itself monitors the voltage of the on-board network using special proprietary software.

To enable the autorun function, you need to know which buttons to press. Depending on the model, the buttons and functions may differ, however, in most cases they are the same. For example, the Tomahawk Q9 Dialog or TZ-9031 requires you to press a key that has a key on it. After this, the headlights should turn on and off three times and the siren will signal three times that the function has been completed. The display should then show several icons:

  • “St” - an attempt was made to start the engine;
  • “SP” - the engine failed to start;
  • “Car” - the engine is running, the key fob emits the corresponding melody.

Review of Tomahawk alarm models.

The company's catalog presents more than 10 alarm models with a different set of functions from budget to premium. But all of them can be combined into three main groups:

  • Availability of basic one-way communication option.

Arming and disarming a vehicle. Suitable for cars in the budget segment.

Cost from 1800 rub.

Range: TOMAHAWK CL-550, CL-700.

  • Car alarms with two-way communication.

In addition to basic functions, these alarms allow the owner to receive information about his car from a distance. In case of damage or an attempt to steal, the security system will sound a loud sound signal, and the key fob will receive a message with the reason for the alarm and information about the car at the moment.

Cost from 2300 rub.

Range: TOMAHAWK 7.1 and 7.2

  • Car alarms with auto start.

Security systems in demand among Russian car owners. With our cold winters and high summer temperatures in the south, this is especially true. An additional function in such alarms is to start the engine remotely. Range 1300 meters.

Cost from 5000 rub.

Assortment: TOMAHAWK X5, Z5, 9010, 9020, etc.

Trigger by temperature

Many alarm models from the presented manufacturer provide an additional engine temperature sensor, which is mounted under the hood. It allows you to enable automatic start based on temperature. If it is not there or for some reason it does not work, then the function is triggered by a sensor inside the cabin.

To activate the function, press and hold the “trunk open” and “key” keys. The headlights will flash once and the siren will sound. An icon in the form of a snowflake and the warm-up temperature, which was previously programmed, will appear on the display, after which a melody will play. The next engine start will be carried out automatically at the previously set time. To disable autostart, you need to press the “open trunk” and “key” buttons again. In this case, the headlights should turn on and off twice and the key fob will beep twice. The “snowflake” icon will disappear on the display and the melody will play.

The function can be activated no more than six times every two hours. You can set temperature conditions from 5 to 30 degrees.

Run every day

To start the car, it is not necessary to set the automatic start function every day. To do this, in some models you can use the engine start functions for every day by simultaneously pressing and holding the “mute” and “key” keys. You must turn the headlights on and off once, a clock icon will appear on the key fob and a melody will play. Then the system will independently start the engine, starting the next day at the set autostart time.

Disabling on Z3 or 10.1 and others occurs by pressing the same keys. The headlights should flash twice, the clock icon disappears and a melody plays. You can activate the start at 1, 2, 4 and 12 hours by pressing the above buttons and within five seconds additionally press the corresponding button on the key fob:

  • “lock” - starts the engine every hour;
  • “key”—the interval between activation is two hours;
  • “open trunk” - the engine will start every four hours;
  • “Sound off” - the engine will start in twelve hours.

These functions operate on various alarm models, for example X3 or 9.7 and others. However, before using such settings, you must carefully study the instructions supplied with the alarm. This is because the key combinations may differ from those shown. This also applies to those cases when you need to turn off the engine using the key fob.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of equipment supplied under the Tomahawk brand:

  • low cost;
  • Remote controls with a screen are provided;
  • simple setup algorithm;
  • automatic start function (except for budget models).

Disadvantages of Tomahawk alarms noted by owners:

  • low quality of plastic used for the manufacture of remote control housings;
  • FM modulation is used to encode the control signal;
  • There are no original spare parts for discontinued equipment;
  • the operating range of remote controls in the city does not exceed 40-50 m;
  • There are fakes on the market that look similar to the original products.

Some malfunctions

In certain cases, autorun does not work. This can happen for various reasons, but there are a number of basic errors that lead to these problems. For example, having installed the X5 model, the key fob settings were made incorrectly, which does not allow you to set one or another mode and activate the autostart function. It is necessary to configure the system accordingly to avoid such problems. If the car does not start automatically, then you should contact a specialist. There may have been errors made when connecting the system. The same applies to those cases when the car starts and stalls.

When installing such a serious and complex system on your car, you should never hope. That you can handle this on your own without the proper knowledge. In this work, professionalism and knowledge of the device as a whole are important. Otherwise, you will not get the desired result and may even damage the car, which will lead to failure of car components and costly repairs.

Connection instructions

Installation of Tomahawk 9030 with autostart is carried out in strict accordance with the instructions. First disconnect the battery by removing the negative cable. Installation locations must meet the following requirements:

  • secrecy and inaccessibility for attackers;
  • away from sources of heat, moisture and dampness;
  • at a distance from the standard electrical equipment of the vehicle.

When installing an alarm, observe the following rules:

  • Place the control unit only inside the passenger compartment: under the instrument panel, next to the wiring. Protect the unit from vibrations;
  • Install the antenna as high as possible. It should not touch metal parts;
  • Place the siren in the engine compartment. Point the horn down to prevent water from getting inside;
  • connect the wires inside the car, soldering them together;
  • protect the alarm control unit from power surges in the network with fuses;
  • Install the shock sensor in the center of the cabin.

Connection in vehicles with "ST2"

Let’s say that voltage appears simultaneously at the starter contacts “ST1” and “ST2”. Then the alarm installation diagram can be modified.

The break in the “ST2” wire coming from the lock contains normally closed relay contacts. In theory, the standard wiring of the “ST2” circuit is not broken here. But when a positive potential appears on contact “ST1”, such potential will also appear on “ST2”.

If the voltage should appear at contact “ST2” later than at “ST1”, you need to install a relay with a delay. But this option is not recommended. But the IGN3 output, provided in the TZ-9030 car alarm, can “emulate” the “ST2” contact in any car. You need to be able to configure the option correctly, and then the following connection option will become possible:

  • IGN1 signaling –> IGN1 auto;
  • IGN2 –> ACC (if IGN2 is not present in the car itself);
  • IGN3 –> relay winding connected to the ST2 gap.

We hope everything is clear here.

There are models of devices with auto-start, where connection to two starter lines is provided initially. However, it turns out that there is no such alarm in the Tomahawk equipment line.

Preparation for automatic and manual

Before using the Tomahawk TV 9030 autostart function, prevent the vehicle from moving. On a vehicle with an automatic transmission, move the lever to the park position.
