Currently, Vesta is the flagship model of AvtoVAZ, and therefore the entire domestic automobile industry. The car deserved this title, but this does not mean that the interest of ordinary users focused exclusively on Vesta. Rather, on the contrary, the inertia of motorists will make itself felt for a long time, and the predecessors of the leader are still popular and sell well. Lada Granta is at the forefront of this list. And it’s not just a matter of lower cost - in many respects Grant is not inferior to the recognized favorite.
Exterior
LADA Vesta - update of the AvtoVAZ model range. All previous models are considered restylings, since nothing new was offered to the buyer.
Low cost is what drives sales and demand for typical models. The Lada Granta also belongs to the “restyling” category, regardless of body modification. The first generation of Grants is undoubtedly inferior to Vesta in all respects. However, the latter cannot offer the buyer station wagon and liftback modifications. For the majority of Russians, this criterion turned out to be decisive, as a result of which preference was given to Grant. At the same time, serial production of new Lada Vesta models is planned for 2022: Signature and Cross. These will be prototypes of station wagons and minivans. So Granta’s superiority is debatable.
Transmission differences
The newer model is equipped with two versions of a 5-speed manual transmission unit, one of which is VAZ’s own development, and the second is a product of Renault engineers.
For the Granta in the liftback version, only one version of the manual transmission is available. The owners noted the clarity when switching in Vesta gearboxes.
Both models have robotic transmissions designed on a mechanical basis, where the activator and control unit are integrated, so in this case it is impossible to say for sure which is better.
As for automatic transmissions, Vesta has a 5-speed one, and Granta has a four-speed one.

At the time of the release of the LadaGranta, the model was presented as an intermediate option between the familiar chopped Samara and modern forms. Apparently, the decision was changed, leaving the intermediate option as a permanent one. LADA Vesta has an indisputable advantage. For most car owners, the Lada Granta Liftback is a car in the budget segment. This is emphasized by the enlarged shapes of the optics, the radiator grille, the absence of chrome around the perimeter, and the air intake hidden under the front part.
When viewing Granta from the side, you remember the wide doors and the stern being too long. The body against the general background seems awkward, made without respect to proportions. From the rear, the luggage compartment lid looks small and narrow against the backdrop of massive rear lights. Fortunately, the license plate mount was moved higher, so that dirt will not get in the numbers. In LADA Vesta, the shapes are more harmonious, combining well with chrome lines, a radiator grille, and a massive air intake. The whole is complemented by branded optics and a line of fog lights at the bottom of the front bumper.
From the side, the LADA Vesta is also devoid of bulky doors, inflated wings, and awkward rims. A wedge-shaped profile and stamping along the lower contour are clearly visible on the left and right sides. Spoke-spoke alloy wheels complete the exterior.

Motor
As of 2022, the undisputed favorite is the Lada Granta. Not because the engines are more powerful, but due to a wide range of modifications and power indicators. Looking to the future, expansion in the model range is no longer expected. So all hopes are for LADA Vesta. And Grant needs to prepare for the “silver” medal.
A power unit with the most powerful performance of 106 “horses” is available in each of the models. The sixteen valve unit produces 5850 rpm, which is not bad at all. On both modifications of the Lada, the engine is installed without changing the design. The so-called unified version. Conquering the first “hundred” in LADA Vesta / Lada Granta in 11.8 and 10.8 seconds, respectively. Fuel consumption is the same and is 6.6 liters for the combined cycle and 5.3 liters. along the highway. Thanks to its lighter weight, the Grant accelerates somewhat faster. The maximum speed is fixed at 183 km/h.

If this is where the line of Lada Vesta power units ends, then Granta provides three more types of budget engines. These are four-cylinder engines with a gasoline power system, a power of 87 hp, and a maximum speed of 165 km/h. The review is completed by a sixteen-valve engine with 98 hp, the maximum stated speed of which is 175 km/h. The only caveat is that this type of power unit works exclusively with a four-speed automatic transmission. At the beginning of 2022, the Lada Vesta engine line is expected to expand. The estimated volume is 1.8 liters, the power is derated and amounts to 110 hp.
Transmission
An undeniable advantage of the Lada Grant, since the model range has been replenished with a four-speed automatic transmission. If we compare the five-speed manual transmission of both models, Vesta takes a leading position.
The new type JH3510 gearbox has a short gear stroke, which contributes to the efficiency of the engine and picks up power at the bottom. The third type of gearbox: five-speed robotic. It is identical for the presented models.
Chassis
The type of suspension is classic and even standard for VAZ models:
- front: MacPherson;
- rear: torsion beam.
Interior
The Lada Vesta salon is designed taking into account the latest technologies. Just look at the shape of the dashboard wells, the three-spoke steering column, ergonomic seats, and air deflectors. Compared to its rival, Granta’s interior is gloomy, boring, and monotonous. Everything is simple and tasteless.
Steering
Here Vesta wins undoubtedly, it has the best taxiing in its class. She is sharp and informative. This is partly due to the fact that the rail has a lower location and is mounted on a rigid subframe. The Granta's taxiing is somewhat blurry, especially in the near zero position. This is due to the design heritage from the VAZ-2108.
The rail is attached to the body panel; the structure does not have high rigidity. The backlash ultimately gives the taxiing performance we have.
An important point: when driving on an uneven road, all impacts transmitted to the body inevitably fall on the rack and steering wheel. There will be no such effect on Vesta. The disadvantage of Grants in technical terms is its advantage in another way. The simpler the machine is technically, the cheaper it is, and the lower the cost of spare parts. This is the main advantage over Vesta. It will be cheaper not only during purchase, but also after it. Granta is cheaper to maintain than Vesta.
Both cars are paired with a 1.6 liter engine with a 5-speed manual transmission with the VAZ-2181 index. The box is simple, reliable, unpretentious, but noisy. The transmission noise from it in the Vesta’s cabin can be heard much less, since the sound insulation is better. This is especially noticeable when driving on the highway.
Options and prices
The minimum cost of the basic Lada Vesta configuration is from 515,000 rubles. While for the Lada Granta they are asking only 380,000 rubles. The difference of 135,000 rubles is noticeable for domestic consumers.

Lada Vesta or Lada Granta Liftback. What to choose? Lada Granta Liftback is an ideal solution for private entrepreneurs, of whom the majority are in the Russian Federation. A car with a spacious trunk, convenient transformation of the interior, economical in fuel consumption, in a word - a “workhorse”.
Lada Vesta, on the contrary, is a purely business class for managers, directors of enterprises, and private firms. Delivering goods in a vehicle of this class is not a rational decision.
Results
The price of the Granta in the 106-horsepower version ranges from 420 to 440 thousand rubles. Any version in the LADA Vesta model range is significantly more expensive. What to choose depends on the allocated budget for the car.
In terms of the dynamic parameters of the Grant, the liftback in some versions reaches the performance of the newer model, but its interior and exterior leave much to be desired.
Which option to give preference to, which is better from the presented options, is up to the buyer to decide! It is recommended to purchase a car from a dealer network that has great authority in sales policies.
