But the most interesting changes occurred in the chassis of the five-door Granta. Thus, although cars in the “Standard” and “Norma” versions received an improved suspension, the changes in it were reduced mainly to different settings. But in the “Lux” version, the liftback suspension is significantly different from the sedan: anti-roll bars both front and rear are much more powerful, gas-filled shock absorbers and stiffer springs are installed.

The purpose of all these innovations, according to S. Medinets, was to increase the stability of the car in corners, reduce roll and sway. The suspension of the luxury liftback is denser and more collected than on the sedan, although, according to our interlocutor, we had to sacrifice a little smoothness. And he himself considers the ideal option for our roads to be the suspension in the “Standard” and “Norma” versions with conventional liquid shock absorbers and the same springs as on the sedan: “Such a car is not as accurate in reactions as a luxury one, but it “swallows” better "Typical Russian road defects."

And finally, a new vacuum brake booster, which the Lada Granta liftback received. As a result, the pedal travel, according to our feelings, has become shorter, and the force on it increases as the braking progresses, not as sharply as before. The engineers did a great job, the parameters are higher than a number of European brands: Volkswagen, Skoda, Opel, Seat. With the rear seats folded, the trunk size of the Grant is 770 liters, and in normal condition - 440. Among production VAZs, this is the first liftback in history. In terms of luggage compartment volume, the new Granta has left behind even the Volkswagen Golf, one of the most popular hatchbacks in the world. However, on the Golf with the rear seats folded down, the trunk volume increases to 1200 liters, which the Lada designers failed to do due to the desire to maintain the same wheelbase as the sedan.

So, what will real owners say about the size and convenience of the trunk? On the Internet you can find many photos taken by owners of the domestic liftback. Car owners are sometimes quite surprised at how many different things a new car can accommodate. But it turns out that with a large trunk volume, not everything is as rosy as described in the advertisement.

The Grant's rear seats can only be folded when the front seats are pushed all the way forward. In this case, the rear head restraints must first be unscrewed. The top parcel shelf can be easily removed, which is very useful if you need to transport something large. The volume, of course, is not added, but the load does not rest against anything. In the photo the shelf is raised. In the niches on the right and left you can place medium-sized bags, and, if necessary, a strategic set of tools for car repairs on your own.

There were no casualties

Not forgetting about budget restrictions, engineers and designers nevertheless made many changes, turning the three-volume body into a two-volume one. The original front bumper with black inserts made the car visually wider - a useful modification for a B-class representative with high ground clearance and a high interior. The sedan will soon get the same detail, but with one exception: the Granta in the “Standard” configuration will retain the same unpainted bumper. Side mirrors have been changed. In the top-end configuration, they were equipped with double turn indicators, as has already been done on the Priora. Later, the same mirrors will appear on the three-volume vehicle.

Features and disadvantages of the luggage compartment

As practice has shown, a subwoofer cannot be placed in the trunk of a liftback without the risk of damaging it. If installed, it will no longer be possible to transport bulk cargo. Thus, it is better to choose practicality over unnecessary aesthetics. The trunk lid opens, or rather, unlocks, with a special button on the key. You have to open it upwards with your hands, which means you cannot avoid dirt on your palms and clothes. Another drawback is obvious - if you forget the key in the ignition, you will have to return for it.

The trunk handles are described by users as unusual and uncomfortable, more like recesses; they can be seen and appreciated in the photo. The compartment slams silently, you even have to make sure it is closed. In addition, the fifth door is a bit heavy; it needs to be pushed slightly to tilt up. Pressing the trunk release button in the cabin (it is not standard) sometimes prevents the lid from closing, causing the lock to malfunction. You need to press the button again so that the lock takes its proper place and the lid finally closes.

As the president of AvtoVAZ previously stated, the liftback is a more modern design and expansion of the functionality of the car due to a two-volume body. Judging by the fact that manufacturers in advertising indicate the style and sportiness of the model, its main target audience is young people.

Not everything is comfortable and stylish and beautiful. But the minor shortcomings of the liftback can be neglected. This is the design: either tolerate it or not buy Grant. The luggage compartment opening itself turned out to be quite wide, which is certainly useful for summer residents. This can be seen in the photo. In terms of its silhouette, the hatchback looks much faster and prettier than the sedan. It was not easy to fit a large trunk into the strictly chosen wheelbase, which is why the inconveniences described above resulted.

But since the Granta is cheaper than its competitors and is quite to the liking of people who like to travel comfortably with the whole family, taking with them half the benefits of civilization, the car is simply doomed to success. Granta is a serious step towards a qualitative leap in automotive products in the city of Tolyatti and a reason for Russians to be proud.

Installing a subwoofer in the trunk of a Granta is problematic. This element of the audio system takes up a lot of space, so it will no longer be possible to transport bulky cargo. In addition, the subwoofer is at risk of damage.

Lada Granta 2022 - a car that has been talked about a lot in the last couple of months, often and heatedly discussed, has been officially presented! The updated Granta put an end to the Kalina era, combining in one family four body styles, the hatchback and station wagon inherited from Kalina, as well as the liftback and sedan from the previous generation Granta. And this is just the beginning; very soon the Granta line will be replenished with two more models, Lada Granta Cross and Lada Granta Sport. The first one was also presented to the public at the presentation of the restyled Grant.

Lada Granta Cross

Today, there is no full range of technical characteristics of this version; it is only known that the cross version will be awarded only to the Granta station wagon, which will receive increased ground clearance to 240 mm and a plastic body kit. The increase in ground clearance will be due to suspension settings and the use of larger diameter tires.

The Lada Granta Cross will be equipped with two types of gearboxes, AMT and manual, but we will not see hydraulic mechanics on the cross version. We won’t see the rear disc brakes that the Granta Sport will receive, while the front brakes will remain the same as before the restyling.

As for the prices for the Grant cross-country station wagon, there is no information on them yet, but the prices for the remaining modifications were announced and pleasantly surprised the public.

Interior and exterior of Lada Granta 2018

The most significant changes in the exterior of the updated Grant family occurred in the front part of the cars. All of them received a design in the X-Face corporate style. In addition, the appearance, due to changes in the front end, has become more aggressive and sporty, thanks to a change in the angle of the front part and new headlights that have changed their position. Yes, yes, the headlights in the restyled Grant are new, unlike the rear ones, which migrated here from the previous generation.

The hood of the Granta 2022 has also undergone minor redesign, now it has a stamping that allows you to redirect the air flow, keeping the windshield clean longer. The windshield washer nozzles are now hidden, under the upper edge of the hood.

With the advent of the new generation Granta, black bumpers have sunk into oblivion; now even in the basic configuration, bumpers will be painted in body color. The front fenders are also revised here.

Granta's profile remains recognizable; there are no stampings on the sides, i.e. the appearance is still recognizable. The sedan received a new trunk lid, onto the newly formed stamping of which the license plate was moved from the bumper.

The interior of the restyled Granta remained virtually unchanged; there was a new dashboard in the style of Vesta, new climate control controls, a new manual transmission knob and a handbrake with improved ergonomics.

The seats received a new shape with more pronounced lateral support, and new door handles appeared on the doors. And to ensure that less noise penetrates into the cabin, fender liners with pile are installed in the arches.

Now all Granta engines, both 8-valve and 16-valve, use “stickless” pistons, that is, with grooves where the valve “falls” if the timing belt breaks.
