Oil pressure sensor VAZ 2110 - replacement, repair, diagnostics

All internal combustion engines have a lubrication system. Thanks to it, the rubbing units work for a long time and without interruption, regardless of the load. The lubrication system consists not only of the oil pump, filter and channels in the cylinder block. The VAZ 2110 has another important part - an oil pressure sensor. This is a simple part that has a responsible function. The article will discuss how it works, where it is located and how to check the oil pressure sensor on a VAZ 2110.

Purpose

This device detects the oil pressure level and displays the corresponding information on the control panel. Timely notification allows the car owner to quickly fix the problem. If you ignore it, problems may begin with the engine, leading to expensive repairs. After all, if there is not enough oil in the engine, the piston of the car runs “dry”.

The oil pressure sensor on a VAZ not only notifies that this liquid has run out. Sometimes a glowing red indicator may indicate a malfunction in the pump. This happens even if there is enough lubrication in the motor.

How to jam a sensor

Sometimes unscrupulous sellers deliberately suppress the readings of this element on the car. The buyer thinks that everything is in order and the pump is working fully. In fact, the car simply has a soldered light bulb in the instrument panel.

It is very easy to recognize this: when you turn on the ignition, the red “oiler” should light up. If it is not there, it means the sensor has been muted.

How the sensor works and how it works

The oil pressure sensor on the VAZ 2110 includes the following components in its design:

  • movable and fixed contacts;
  • body (usually metal);
  • membrane;
  • pusher in the form of a rod.

On the VAZ 2110 model there is a contact sample sensor. It connects to the warning light on the panel. When you turn on the ignition, a “plus” from the vehicle’s power supply goes to one contact of the light bulb. The remaining, second contact, contacts the moving part of the meter.

The working principle of the part is not complicated. The algorithm is based on the fact that the lamp terminals are connected to ground. This is the functional task of the moving contact - it is through it that the pusher is connected to the diaphragm. Under the diaphragm itself there is a cavity in contact with the lubrication system in the engine block. When the pressure inside it increases, the load on the diaphragm also increases. And it begins to bend, as a result of which the movable contact moves away from the stationary one. If there is no pressure, the contacts remain closed and the corresponding indicator lights up on the dashboard. For the circuit to open, the pressure must rise above 0.3 atmospheres. At the same time, the light bulb goes out.

Operating principle and design of the sensor on the VAZ-2110

The diagram of this element is in our article. The oil pressure sensor consists of several parts:

  • Movable and fixed contact.
  • Housing (as a rule, it is made of metal).
  • Membranes.
  • Pusher (moving contact rod).

The “ten” has a contact-type sensor. It is connected directly to the warning light on the instrument panel. After turning on the ignition, a plus from the on-board network is supplied to one of the lamp contacts. As for the second contact, it interacts with the moving element of the meter. How does the sensor work on a VAZ-2110 car? The scheme of operation is quite simple. The sensor's operating algorithm is based on connecting the lamp terminals to ground. A moving contact is responsible for this, through which the pusher is connected to the diaphragm. The cavity located above the diaphragm is in contact with the lubrication system in the engine block. As the pressure inside increases, the force on the diagram increases. The latter begins to bend, thereby moving the movable contact away from the stationary one. If there is no pressure, the contacts will be closed. Accordingly, the red light on the instrument panel will light up. As soon as the pressure in the system rises above a certain level (0.3 atmospheres), the circuit opens. The lamp stops lighting on the instrument panel.

Where is

In the tenth VAZ model it can be located in two places, which depends on how many valves the engine has.

For 2110 8 valves, it is located in the rear right part of the engine, in the cylinder head socket, not far from the belt guard. It is easy to find by the single wire.

Drivers of a VAZ with a 16-valve working unit will have to look for it in a slightly different place. It is also located behind the engine, but to the left. The sensor is mounted on the camshaft block. There is also one wire coming from it, but nearby there are two bundles of cables protected with black insulation.

Possible faults

There are a number of situations that lead to the breakdown of the DDM on the VAZ-2110 8 valves:

  • the membrane is damaged;
  • the resistive layer is worn out;
  • the heating element of the bimetallic plate has failed or is deformed;
  • the channels through which oil is supplied are clogged;
  • Wires are oxidized or torn. This leads to “parasitic” resistance;
  • The sensor relay has failed. The relay's job is to sound a buzzer if there is not enough pressure in the system. It just starts at certain engine speeds (more than 1500). At idle, it is inactive, because the pressure does not even reach mark 1.

Sensor check

Sometimes it happens that when starting the engine, when it is idling, the DDM light comes on. It continues to burn even if everything is fine with the motor. Another situation also occurs - the indicator goes out as soon as you turn on the ignition.

To make sure the node is working, you need to check it. It is likely that the wires through which it is connected are damaged. They are checked simply: connect one cable to the engine and see if the lamp lights up. If yes, then everything is fine with the wiring.

One of the reasons for its inoperability is that the sensor is simply oily. But, if upon visual inspection it turns out that it is dry, but the light is still on, this is not the reason.

Here you can already think about replacing the unit, fortunately, it is inexpensive - within 100 rubles. The VAZ 2112 oil pressure sensor is checked in a similar way.

Purpose of DDM

DDM - serves to timely inform the driver about low lubricant pressure in the engine. Timely detection of such a malfunction allows it to be eliminated in time and to avoid lengthy and expensive engine repairs due to the operation of its parts dry. However, if the lubricant pressure lamp located on the front panel of the machine suddenly lights up, you should not make hasty conclusions.

What does hasty conclusions lead to?

In fact, many car owners, as soon as the oil pressure light comes on on the dashboard, immediately make their work more difficult:

  • Check the lubricant level.
  • They immediately begin to change the oil along with the filter (see Changing the oil of a VAZ 2110 - from theory to practice).
  • Flush the lubrication system.
  • Measure the pressure in the lubrication system.

And the result is zero - the light bulb was on and continues to burn. And if, when you turn on the ignition, the oil pressure light suddenly stops lighting, then in addition to all the pointless and time-consuming operations listed above, another, no less time-consuming operation is added - replacing the light bulb itself on the dashboard. Checking the lubricant pressure sensor will help you avoid all this unnecessary and time-consuming fuss:

  • The procedure will take five minutes and will most likely save you a lot of hours and nerves.
  • And replacing the oil pressure sensor on a VAZ 2110 (which is also a matter of five minutes) will solve the problem of the lamp lighting up indicating the oil pressure on the instrument panel.

It remains to conclude: if the oil pressure lamp on the dashboard suddenly lights up, or, on the contrary, stops lighting, start by checking the oil pressure gauge. Its malfunction is the most common cause, it can be checked very quickly, which means you should start with it.

How to replace

The replacement is easy to do with your own hands; you don’t even have to go to the garage or visit a service station, where the car owner will be charged a tidy sum.

Replacing a sensor is a task similar in complexity to replacing a wheel. What will be useful for work:

  • spanners;
  • gloves to avoid getting your hands dirty;
  • new device.

Instructions for disconnecting the old sensor and installing a new one:

  • Disconnect the wire going to the device.
  • Remove the sensor using a 21 mm wrench.
  • They take it out.
  • Together with the DDM, the sealing ring, usually made of aluminum, is removed. It is also better to replace it with a new one.
  • Install and tighten a working sensor.
  • Connect the wire that was disconnected at the very beginning.

This is what the procedure for replacing a node looks like. You should be careful when buying DDM, since now about 40% of these products are fakes.

Important information about the oil level sensor

Now let's briefly talk about diagnosing and replacing the oil level sensor. Doing this at home is not at all difficult.

Location and diagnosis

DUM in the “ten” is a device used to measure the volume of motor fluid in the compartments of the power unit. This regulator is located next to the oil filter element, and the filter itself is located in the crankcase of the machine's engine.

How to check the oil level sensor on a VAZ 2110:

  1. First, drive your vehicle onto a viewing hole or overpass.
  2. Unscrew the bolts that secure the motor protection and remove it.
  3. Find the DUM and turn on the ignition - at this moment voltage will be applied to the regulator.
  4. Then disconnect the wires connected to the controller.
  5. The probes of a multimeter or voltmeter should be connected to the ground of the car and the power connector. If a voltage of 12 volts appears on the tester’s display, this indicates that the device is operational.

Replacement instructions

The replacement procedure is as follows:

  1. As in the case of diagnostics, the car should be driven into a pit or overpass, and then the engine protection should be removed.
  2. Having done this, you need to turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative wire from the battery terminal.
  3. Disconnect the power cable connected to the DUM.
  4. Next, take a rag and use it to remove all dirt from the device. Using a 10mm wrench, unscrew the regulator lock; it is more convenient to use a socket wrench for this.
  5. Remove the old regulator from its seat. To remove it, you will have to rock it a little from side to side, but be careful when doing this, otherwise you may damage the float. After dismantling the regulator, install a new DUM instead. Further assembly is carried out in reverse order.

Replacing the oil pressure sensor on a VAZ 2110 with your own hands

Many drivers have encountered the problem of low oil pressure in their car. Alas, the VAZ 2110 is not an exception at all, and a similar breakdown occurs in this model of the domestic automaker.

Unscrewed element

It is noteworthy, but very often the appearance of such a signal on the dashboard has nothing to do with an actual oil leak from the system. The oil pressure sensor on the VAZ 2110 is regularly to blame. Therefore, if you do not see any signs of lubricant leakage under the car, we recommend that you check the functionality of this element.

Where is the oil level sensor located in the VAZ-2110 for 8 and 16 valves

The VAZ-2110 oil level sensor is needed to measure the amount of oil in the desired engine compartment. The VAZ 2110 oil pressure sensor itself is located almost close to the oil filter located in the engine crankcase. The sensor is needed to send a signal to the display unit built into the interior of the VAZ-2110.

On the VAZ-2110, the oil level sensor rarely fails, but drivers have encountered situations where the display unit has failed and temporarily stopped performing its function. In this case, the oil level was insufficient, but the lamp did not light up, or vice versa - the lamp was on, but the oil level was in perfect order. In such cases, it is necessary to check the engine oil level sensor. It is located at the very bottom of the cylinder block and is located next to the oil filter.

Many VAZ-2110 owners have a completely logical question related to the amount of oil that needs to be filled in for successful engine operation. The optimal volume is considered to be from 3.3 to 4 liters. The main criterion when choosing oil for a given machine is the viscosity indicator. The main reason why oil requires replacement is its contamination during operation.

It is recommended to change the oil after 30 thousand kilometers. Don't put your car in poor condition by buying bad oil.

In the interior of the VAZ-2110 there is an indication unit, thanks to which you can obtain the following information: whether the doors are closed, whether the lamps are working, whether the seat belts are fastened. But the main thing is that it shows whether there is sufficient oil level in the engine, as well as water in the washer and cooling system. When the oil level is below the specified level, the upper left icon lights up. The functioning of this measuring device occurs due to closed-open contacts. If the sensor fails, it must be replaced.

To replace oil level sensors, some drivers use a unique alternative called a “plug”. They were installed briefly in old engines. The plug is easy to remove and return the sensor. It is important to remember that the recorded oil level will not change until the next time the engine is started when using the plug. Therefore, it is important to replenish the oil supply if its level drops.

How to replace the oil filter? To avoid burns or other types of injury, check the engine and make sure it is cool before replacing. Unscrewing the oil filter is not difficult. The only thing that can interfere with this process is that it is usually screwed tightly, but do not be afraid to use a strap wrench or a screwdriver and apply a little force, since it is still advisable to throw away the filter after changing the oil. The wire must be stretched, otherwise it may rub against the drive. When installing a new oil filter, lubricate the rubber ring. It is recommended to buy only high-quality filters, since only they can provide the car with the required oil purification.

Examination

So, the oil is not leaking anywhere, but the light indicating a critical level of pressure in the oil system stubbornly refuses to go out. In this case, the best solution is to check the condition of the sensor, which is responsible for the pressure.

The warning light may come on when the engine starts and is idling. At the same time, the motor operates quite normally and does not show any signs of unstable behavior. Or vice versa, the light turns off as soon as the engine starts.

But how can we check that the problem is precisely in the element we are interested in?

  1. First, make sure that all the wires going to it are in good condition. They often lose their integrity during operation. Connect the wires to the power unit. If the light comes on, then everything is fine with the wiring.
  2. Oiliness. Often it is the oil itself that causes the problem. The contact is broken and the device cannot work properly. Check if there are traces of oil on the device. If the sensor turns out to be dry, then this is not the cause of the problem either.
  3. Most likely, the device itself is not working. This is a completely natural thing for such a unit. There is no point in repairing it, since it is not repairable.

Replacing it is not difficult with your own hands and not expensive. Today, the cost of a new sensor for a domestic “ten” is about 100 rubles .

How to check correctly

First, we check the power circuit from the meter to the warning lamp on the dashboard. We perform the check in the following sequence:

  • Remove the wire from the sensor.
  • We lean it against the engine housing.
  • We check whether the light on the instrument panel is on.

If it goes out, it means the wiring is working properly, go to the next point:

  • We remove the oil pressure gauge; if its body is dry, then it is not the cause.
  • Check the lubricant pressure in the system.
  • Its level and quality.

Depending on the results, we add it to the engine, or completely change it, along with the oil filter. If the surface of the sensor is oily, then the cause of the malfunction lies therein; the problem is eliminated in a simple and reliable way:

  • Replacing the VAZ oil sensor – that’s all.
  • There is no point in repairing it; it will no longer work correctly anyway.
  • Buy a new one - its price ranges from 50-100 rubles, which is not expensive at all.
  • Replacement, as mentioned earlier, takes only five minutes.

Where is he located?

A completely natural question for those who plan to replace it themselves, but are doing it for the first time.

Sensor installation location

And its location depends on the number of valves on the engine.

  1. 8 valves. On an eight-valve engine, the oil pressure sensor is located directly under the valve cover on the right, near the timing belt housing, made of plastic.
  2. 16 valves. If it is a VAZ 2110 with 16 valves, its oil pressure sensor is located on the left between the ignition module, the oil filler neck and the air filter.

Replacement

You can carry out the replacement yourself, and you don’t have to be in the garage to do it. It’s not worth talking about service station services at all, since they charge a lot of money for work that even a beginner can do.

Oil level

In terms of complexity, replacing a sensor is equivalent to replacing a wheel. Difficult? Absolutely not.

To get started, prepare the necessary tools and materials:

  • Spanners;
  • Gloves that will allow you to avoid unnecessary contamination of your hands;
  • New sensor.

Next, following the simple instructions step by step, you can easily remove the old one and install a new oil pressure sensor.

  1. Disconnect the wire that goes to your device.
  2. Dismantling of the device is carried out using a regular 21 mm wrench.
  3. The sensor is now removed.
  4. Along with the device, you should get an o-ring made of aluminum. It is not recommended to reuse it. Replace with a new ring.
  5. Armed with a new sensor, insert it in place of the old one, screw it in and secure it.
  6. Reconnect the wires you disconnected in the first step. The matter can be considered completed.

What you need to know about DDM?

Before diagnosing and replacing the oil pressure sensor, you need to know where the oil pressure sensor is located. First, let's briefly talk about the purpose and installation location of the device.

Purpose and location

The VAZ 2110 oil pressure sensor is a device used to notify the car owner about the low level of consumable pressure in the engine. Thanks to this controller, the owner of the “ten” can promptly determine the cause of the malfunction, as well as avoid possible problems that may occur as a result of “dry” operation of the power unit. But it should be borne in mind that if the oil light on the dashboard suddenly lights up on a VAZ 2110, there is a possibility that the problem lies in the regulator itself.

To check the device, you must first find it - the device can be located in two places, depending on the design features of the motor:

  1. On an 8-valve engine, the device is located on the rear of the power unit, on the right in the cylinder head connector, not far from the belt guard. One wire is connected to the DDM.
  2. As for engines with 16 valves, in this case the DDM should also be looked for on the rear of the internal combustion engine, only on the left, directly on the camshaft block. One wire is also connected to this controller, however, next to it there are two more bundles with wiring (the author of the video is the Auto_Remont channel).

Diagnostic features

If you notice that the emergency engine fluid pressure indicator on the dashboard is constantly on, then you should diagnose the regulator. It would be a good idea to check the wiring as well. Diagnostics of the device begins with checking the electrical circuit in the area directly from the DDM to the indicator on the device.

Diagnostics is carried out as follows:

  1. First, on an 8- or 16-valve engine, disconnect the wire and connect it to ground, in particular, the body or engine.
  2. If, after connecting the wire, the indicator on the device starts to light up, this indicates that this section of the electrical circuit is working properly, so you can start diagnosing the regulator. Dismantle it and carefully inspect the device - if it is dry and operational, then the reason for the lit indicator most likely lies elsewhere. For example, this could be a filter or oil pump. But if the controller itself is wet, in motor fluid, then this indicates that it should be changed.

If your oil pressure light comes on, first of all you need to check the oil level; in some cars the light comes on when the oil filter is clogged and the bypass valve in it has opened.

Replacement instructions

How to replace the VAZ 2110 oil pressure sensor:

  1. First you need to disconnect the power cord from the regulator.
  2. Using a 21mm wrench, you need to unscrew the DDM from its seat, and its steel seal is removed along with it.
  3. A new DDM is installed in place of the dismantled device; it is also necessary to replace the seal, which should be included in the kit.
  4. After the regulator is installed, it is necessary to clean the contacts on the connector, and also check the integrity of the dust seal. If everything is fine, then connect the power cable to the DDM and check its functionality.

Note to car owners

Quite often, the self-replacement procedure ends in a fiasco, since installing a new device does not give any result; lubricating fluid continues to flow from under it.

But the point here is not at all the crookedness of your hands or lack of repair experience. If you did everything according to the instructions, the culprit in this situation is no longer you, but the sensor itself.

Statistics show that approximately 40% of all auto parts sold on the market are counterfeits.

Therefore, your task is to take the defect you purchased along with the receipt and go to the store where you purchased it. The store employees are obliged to exchange the device for you or return your money. Of course, if you do not save the receipt, you will not be able to return the money or change the sensor according to the law. Therefore, think twice before throwing away this piece of paper.

Another important piece of advice is to avoid such purchases on so-called spontaneous markets. This is where the largest number of fakes and defective devices are concentrated. There are many reliable, certified outlets selling auto parts. If you go to a service station to replace the sensor, you will have to pay more than if you repair it yourself, but you will be provided with a quality guarantee. A kind of protection against counterfeiting.

Important information to note

It happens that after replacing the oil pressure sensor, oil begins to leak through the new one. You buy a new one, change it, after a while the situation repeats itself. What causes this? The most common cause of such a malfunction is due to defective sensors , even new ones purchased in a store, and not on a tray around the corner. Many car owners complain about similar problems that they have to change the sweat several times in a row. However, in such a case, we recommend contacting a car service to find out the real reason, so that you don’t end up with a lot of stupid fuss, as already described above.

Oil pressure sensor VAZ 2110

Any car, including the VAZ 2110, is a very complex structure, the functionality of which is ensured by the inclusion of various parts, elements and devices.

One such device is the oil pressure sensor. Every car is equipped with this element, and the VAZ-2110 is no exception.

Not every owner of this car knows where a certain element or device is located in his car. As for the oil pressure sensor, its location depends on what engine the VAZ-2110 is equipped with.

So, for example, if a standard 8-valve engine is installed, the oil pressure sensor can be found under the valve cover, not far from the timing belt housing.

If the car is equipped with a more modern type of engine, the sensor is located between the air filter and the oil filler cap.

The sensor design is quite simple. The design of the device contains:

  • Movable and fixed contact.
  • Metal body.
  • Membranes.
  • Moving contact rods or pushers.

The operating principle of the device is also quite simple. The sensor pusher is connected to a moving contact, which ensures high-quality transmission of oil pressure indicators during vehicle operation.

Price and article

Below is a table with the most common oil pressure sensors that are used in the car in question, article number and price.

Sensorvendor codeCost, in rubles
Oil pressure sensor VernetOS3573150
Oil pressure sensor TRS ERA330337300
Oil pressure sensor (Era) Iveco330684250

At the moment, there are other names depending on the sensor model and its manufacturer.

Check and replacement

Before talking about checking and replacing the sensor, you should clarify what breakdowns can occur in the operation of this device. Among the most common are:

  • damage to the element membrane;
  • failure of the bimetallic plate or its possible deformation;
  • clogged channels through which oil is supplied;
  • There is a malfunction in the pressure sensor relay.

As for the latter case, the relay is used to turn on the buzzer if the pressure in the system drops to unacceptable limits.

To prevent a possible malfunction, the owner of the VAZ 2110 should regularly check the functionality of the sensor if any signs of a possible breakdown are detected. It should be noted that the check can be done with your own hands.

To determine if the sensor is faulty, it will be enough to check the wires that connect to it. The wire is removed from the device and shorted to ground, after which it is noted whether the emergency lamp on the dashboard lights up. If so, then there is nothing wrong with the wiring and the problem really lies with the sensor itself.

Replacing the oil pressure sensor can also be done independently. To do this, you will need to prepare a 21 mm key. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  • First of all, you need to find the location of the oil pressure sensor.
  • After this, its surface is cleaned. This can be done using sandpaper. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that dirt does not get into the engine.
  • The next action is to disconnect the terminal with contacts to the sensor.

  • Then, using a 21 mm wrench, the sensor is unscrewed counterclockwise and then removed. During this, it is important to ensure that the O-ring is completely out of the seat.

  • Before replacing, you will need to clean the hole from any remaining dirt.

The final step is to replace the oil pressure sensor, tighten it and connect the wire. After the replacement has been made, you can start the engine and check if the warning light comes on. If not, then the problem is solved.

How to make a replacement?

You can replace the oil pressure sensor on a VAZ-2110 car with your own hands. To do this you will need a key “21”. First you need to find its location (we already know where the element is located on an eight- and sixteen-valve engine). Then, using a piece of rags or sandpaper, you need to clean the surface of dirt. It should not get into the engine when replacing. So, disconnect the terminal with contacts to the sensor. Using the “21” key, we begin to unscrew it counterclockwise. It is enough to rip off the nut, and then you can unscrew it by hand.

When dismantling the sensor on a VAZ-2110, make sure that the aluminum O-ring comes completely out of the seat. At the next stage, we once again clean the hole from dirt with a clean rag and proceed to install the new element. Installation is carried out in reverse order. You need to tighten it so that the new washer shrinks, but does not spread. Please note: It is strictly prohibited to use the old O-ring on a new sensor. This can cause unauthorized leaks while the engine is running. After tightening the element, connect the wire. If the contact is oxidized, it must be cleaned. This completes the procedure for replacing the oil pressure sensor on the VAZ-2110. You can launch. The lamp should go out within the first 1-2 seconds of engine operation.

What to do if the sensor lights up

If the sensor is working properly, and during the operation of the car an emergency light comes on on the dashboard, you should immediately determine the cause of its appearance, and also solve this problem as soon as possible. The main reason for the appearance of the corresponding icon on the dashboard of the VAZ 2110 is a decrease in the amount of oil in the engine.

A lack of oil reduces the pressure in the oil system, and the sensor manages to detect this, sending a warning signal to the dashboard.

In this case, it is recommended to begin to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, since a lack of fluid can lead to such unpleasant consequences as premature wear of the car engine elements, as well as the wedge of the shafts (camshaft or crankshaft).

If you ignore the problem, you can subsequently spend a lot of money on repairing damaged parts and devices, up to and including major engine overhauls.

As a result, it should be said that the operation of any vehicle, including the VAZ 2110, requires a responsible and attentive attitude. The car owner must regularly inspect the performance of the car’s structural elements, as well as check the serviceability of the sensors and mechanisms present in it.
