Replacing the handbrake cable for Lada Kalina sedan (VAZ Kalina)

The handbrake is one of the components of the car's braking system. The parking brake prevents unintentional movement when parking the vehicle. Regular maintenance and adjustment of the handbrake helps to avoid troubles when parking on an uphill or downhill slope. The adjusted parking brake should ensure that the vehicle is held on a slope of 25 degrees.

The Lada Kalina has a handbrake brake drive in the form of two cables. The force from the parking brake lever is transmitted through two cables to the rear drum shoes. When the handbrake is tightened to the top position, the pads unclench and fix the brake drum. In this position the wheel does not spin.

Bleeding the brake system

Today, as you may have guessed, we will talk about bleeding the brake system.
Why do you need to do this? First of all (and secondly, and thirdly) in order to expel all the air from the brake system. Air, unlike brake fluid, tends to compress. Therefore, when braking, in the brake system, due to the presence of air, the pressure created may not be enough to release the brake pads. The brake pedal will simply fall to the floor without any effect. This is why the brakes need to be bled. Air is the main enemy of the braking system. How does he get into it? It gets into it because of its lack of tightness. Also during any repair work (replacing hoses, cuffs, etc.). And you don’t need to hope that you did everything carefully. The repairs were completed - the brakes were bled. Golden Rule.

Enough theory. Let's get down to business. Bleeding the brake system is a procedure that is performed the same on any vehicle with a hydraulic brake system (without ABS). The main difference is only the sequence of pumped wheels. It is better to familiarize yourself with this in the operating instructions.

What to choose: antifreeze or antifreeze

Both antifreeze and antifreeze are coolants. At the same time, antifreeze is the international name denoting coolants for cooling systems of internal combustion engines.

Antifreeze is also an analogue of antifreeze; it was developed back in Soviet times. It is noteworthy that the name TOSOL is not patented. As a result, today antifreeze manufacturers are actively producing products called TOSOL. Such a liquid today has nothing in common with the old Soviet development and is still the same antifreeze. It turns out that this is antifreeze, only domestically produced.

At the same time, TOSOL is traditionally used in domestic cars; it is poured at the factory during the manufacture of new cars. However, if you need to switch from it to antifreeze, no problems arise.

The main thing is to avoid mixing different types of coolants, and also to use products in the cooling system whose properties meet the tolerances of the car manufacturer itself.
