Error codes for Webasto heaters are issued either to the digital remote control in the form FXX (xx is the fault number), or by the number of long blinks of the LED on the temperature controller.

Device Features

Before understanding Webasto error codes, you need to understand what kind of device it is, how it works and why it can fail. Having understood the principle of operation and studied the potential weaknesses of the preheater, it will be easier for the car owner to look for the cause of the Webasto failure, as well as find ways to solve the problem. Preheaters of the famous Webasto brand consist of:

• heat exchanger;
• combustion chambers;
• circulation pump;
• fuel priming pump;
• electronic control unit.

These are 5 main elements, the work of which is aimed at heating the engine before starting it. Their fuel priming pump begins to supply fuel from the car’s fuel tank to the combustion chamber of the heater in a certain amount. It ignites, which is due to the presence of a spiral spark plug in the Webasto design.

Inside the combustion chamber there is a heat exchanger element, which is washed by the cooling liquid. This heat exchanger, when connected to a vehicle heater, is connected to a small circle of the vehicle's cooling system. This is where the circulation pump comes into play, moving the coolant through the jacket of the automobile cooling system. This warms up the engine before starting it directly.

The electronic control unit, which is provided by the design of the preheater, connects directly to the car engine ECU, which allows you to control the operation of Webasto. The result of the operation of preheaters amazes many with its efficiency. In severe frosts, such an assistant in the car turns out to be indispensable. Some complain about the fact of fuel consumption, although in reality it is insignificant, plus it is still more profitable than constantly starting a cold engine, and then eliminating the consequences of frequent cold starts.

Typical faults

Many motorists have already encountered error codes on Webasto. This is how the device informs you that certain malfunctions have arisen that require mandatory intervention and elimination. Basically, car owners are faced with the following:

Webasto heaters may not start due to the fact that a certain piece of equipment is not working, or low-quality fuel is used. That is, the heater has nothing to ignite the fuel with, or there is nothing to burn in the device. In rare situations, a motorist is faced with two problems at the same time. If the car is refueled with low quality fuel, this leads to active clogging of the filter mesh in the fuel pump. As a result, fuel cannot flow in the required quantity, or it completely stops flowing into the preheating combustion chamber.

Low-grade fuel also has a negative effect on spark plugs. They quickly coke, and therefore are not able to warm up to the required temperature indicators. As a result, complete failure occurs and mandatory replacement is required. Problems with the electronic unit are the most difficult to fix on your own. In the absence of proper experience and the necessary diagnostic equipment, it is not recommended to try to deal with ECU problems on your own. It is better to contact a specialized service center, where there are specialists who have sufficient experience in working with Webasto pre-heater systems.

Problems with diesel-powered devices, such as Webasto Air Top 2000 ST air heaters, are similar to gasoline devices, and therefore can produce the same errors. At the same time, on diesel engines, the preheating system may not start often precisely because of the lack of truly high-quality diesel fuel at domestic gas stations. Diesel fuel often has a high sulfur content, which contaminates spark plugs much more actively than gasoline, even if it is not of the highest quality. As a result, on diesel engines the likelihood of spark plug failure is higher.

Another problem with diesel automotive systems on which Webasto is installed is fuel thickening, which is caused by low temperatures during the cold season. Due to its structure, thickened liquid may pass poorly through pipelines and never reach the combustion chamber of the preheater. Therefore, situations where Webasto does not start on diesel engines are quite common.

In some cases, the cause of failure is a banal kinking in the fuel pipes, which also blocks access of fuel to the Webasto combustion chamber. Although most often we are talking about a failed glow plug and a clogged filter on the fuel pump. When Webasto does not turn on at all, the problem is most likely related to the electronic control unit. And if startup occurs, but the heater turns off after a short period of time, the source of the problem should be sought in the electronics. The best solution here would be to visit a service center. The device is connected to diagnostic equipment and tested.

REMOVAL OF EMERGENCY LOCK

The heater goes into an emergency blocking state if several (6–20) faults of the same type occur in a row (see more details below).

To remove the emergency lock you need to:

• 1. Turn on the heater using the control (error code F12 or 07 will be displayed, or the LED will flash 12 times).
• 2. De-energize the heater (remove the power fuse protecting the heater control unit, or de-energize the heater in any other convenient way, including removing the battery terminal).
• 3. Turn off the heater control.
• 4. Wait at least 10 seconds.
• 5. Restore the power supply to the heater (replace the power fuse, or restore the power circuit in another way).
• 6. Turn on the heater using the control again.

Emergency shutdown.

During the startup process and throughout the operation of the heater, the control unit checks its components for faults.

In case of the following malfunctions, it turns off (blocks) the heater:

• • Lack of combustion or error at startup
• • Damage to the temperature sensor
• • Interruption (break) or short circuit of the overheat sensor
• • Incorrect installation of the overheating sensor
• • Interruption or short circuit of the glow pin/flame sensor.
• • Interruption or short circuit in the blower motor circuit or incorrect speed.
• • Interruption or short circuit in the metering pump circuit
• • Undervoltage below 10/21 V for more than 20 seconds.
• • Increased voltage above 16/32 V for more than 6 seconds
• • Malfunction of the control unit itself
• • Overheating

If the heater overheats, the fuel supply stops. Turning off the heater during an emergency shutdown occurs in the same way as usual. After turning off the heater, a fault code is issued to the control (in the form of a code of type F11 for controls of type 1531, by blinking of the LED on the switch - slow blinks separated by several fast ones, or a hexadecimal code on Multicontrol controls).

To remove the blockage, the heater must be turned off for at least 2 seconds and turned on again.

Errors such as overheating, startup error and flame failure are stored in the memory of the control unit and, when the maximum possible number is reached, can cause the heater to be blocked.

• • Startup error (FSZ) is counted every time the heater fails to start. If the number of these errors is 9, the heater is blocked (HGV).
• • If the same error (SZ) is repeated more than 5 times, the heater is blocked. (HGV)
• • If overheating (UHZ) occurs more than 5 times, the heater is blocked (HGV)
• • After a flame failure (FAZ), restart is carried out automatically. The reason for this is that the heater was previously in control mode. During a restart, the cycle repeats (ZWZ). This process is repeated until the heater either starts or the number of cycle repetitions reaches 3.
• • In case of flame failure (FAZ), the cycle is automatically repeated (ZWZ). If the cycle (ZWZ) is repeated more than 3 times, the heater is blocked (HGV).
• • Automatic reset: After each heater start, the cycle repeat counter ZWZ is reset to zero. The fault counter during normal operation becomes zero, and the counters for flame failure FAZ, overheating UHZ, unsuccessful starts FSZ after correct operation in combustion mode for more than 6 minutes are reset to zero.

Independent search and problem solving

Fuel . Often problems lie in the fuel supply. This happens in winter, when many drivers forget to change their summer diesel fuel to winter. Look at the heater, it can work in a warm room, so take care of the garage. When the webasto goes away in a warm place, change the fuel. First, drain the diesel fuel, vent the system, clean it, change the filter, pour in new diesel fuel. There is another reason for fuel not entering the heater. The diesel fuel does not reach the pump. The sound is clear and loud. There may also be air leaks when the fuel line is damaged. In addition, you need to check the solenoid valve, there is a build-up of plugs in it. To check the air pressure on the winding, take an ohmmeter. Normal units range from 136-154 ohms . When performing diagnostics, feed any washing liquid into the tube.

Electrical ringing . After checking the fuel system, people who understand electrics move on, and average drivers turn to service professionals. We look at fuses F1-F3, if there are blown ones, we replace them and check for functionality. Next we check the timer. We measure its current in the connector; if there is no current supply, then the timer should be changed completely. The next object of control is the stove. We look at the terminals along the way, when they are oxidized, this can block the current supply. We check the integrity of all wires. Depressurization most often occurs on the plug itself.

Webasto Operating Instructions

We remove the blocks . Webasto may turn on blocking due to the fact that the errors have been corrected, and reports about them have not yet been recorded in the memory panel. We remove power from the control unit for 3 seconds , removing it from the fuse. We take out the chip and return it to its place. Then we turn on the heater. First you need to understand what Webasto is, and also understand its features in order to know why it may have problems. The whole design is quite simple. Comprises:

Benefits and Features

One of the advantages of this device is that you don’t even need to approach the car to start the system. You can start from the window of your own apartment. Many people love Webasto for its autonomy, and also for the fact that almost no precious energy is wasted from the battery for heating. One of the serious disadvantages is that the battery life is reduced by about a year. But you always have to pay for comfort. When the temperature reaches a certain threshold, and by default this level is 81°, then the control unit will simply turn off the installation. The car will wait for its owner, being completely ready to move. However, if there is no activity for a long time and the temperature begins to drop, then when it reaches 64 degrees, Webasto will start up and begin its work again.

Resetting NOT normally installed webasto

I drove the car into an underground parking with a temperature of +11-+13 degrees for 3 hours (you simply can’t stay in it for free anymore) 100% everything should have thawed during this time, I start the timer, and the same thing, the boiler doesn’t want to work at all .Started it with the key and went to explore the Internet.

After digging through various forums, I came to the conclusion that most likely the fuel froze and the webast was blocked. Now you can unlock it only through a computer, or by removing the fuse (I read option 2 on many forums)

I connected Vasya Diagnostic. I entered block 18 and there was an error 02251, the heater is blocked. Through adaptation in channel 3 of the same block, I unblocked Webasto and erased the error (we must erase the error only after unlocking Webasto, otherwise it appears immediately after deletion), but the problem remained at exactly the same level.

The problem was that I just needed to unlock the additional webast, but I don’t know where the fuse is, and I also don’t know if the diagnostic connector was brought into the passenger compartment in order to diagnose it. In our city there are several services that can diagnose Webasta, but they all have a waiting list of weeks or even months in advance.

Operating principle

When the driver turns on the unit, a fuel-air mixture is supplied to it, which then ignites and burns. Due to this, the coolant in the heat exchanger is heated. The pump responsible for circulation in the heater pumps antifreeze throughout the system through the radiator-heat exchanger, thereby warming the engine. The unit is also connected to the standard cabin heating system and controls the start of the fan.

So, in winter the driver may not have to wait for the power unit to warm up. The engine will quickly enter operating temperature mode with one press of a key on the remote control.

• Disconnect the control unit by removing the 20 A fuse (yellow) on the heater cable harness
• Reinstall the fuse
• Press the “On” button (left) on the “Telestart” remote control or “direct start” (torch) on the timer.
• Disconnect the control unit by removing the 20 A fuse (yellow) on the heater cable harness
• Reinstall the fuse. The heater should turn on.

Also, do not forget that the heater is not blocked just like that, there are always reasons why the heater is blocked. Errors are stored in the control unit’s memory; resetting them will complicate further diagnostics and repairs of your Webasto heater.
