The Skoda Fabia was first launched in 1999, and gained popularity again when the Czech automaker released its third generation in 2015. Thanks to its high reliability, the Fabia can detect faults and when a fault is detected by the vehicle's computer (ECU), an indicator light lights up on the dashboard. To clear the service warning, you need to follow a few simple steps.
How to reset the service interval
The appearance of a signal about the need for maintenance is a common problem that almost every motorist has encountered. In this case, the display may flash and the device may make annoying beeps. In service centers, when resetting, they make an entry in the service book and stick a sticker indicating the date of the next maintenance. Manufacturers do not recommend resetting the data yourself, as the indicator settings may be lost. But most often, no malfunctions in the operation of the vehicle systems are observed.
Typically, a service notification appears after approximately 15,000 kilometers or 372 days. But most drivers perform maintenance much more often, approximately every 5-7 thousand kilometers. After changing the oil and filters yourself, the message “Service” appears. After all, the system cannot recognize that the fluid has already been replaced. You can remove this inscription yourself without overpaying at a car service center. It is possible to reset the recorded information if the “Service” indicator lights up on the screen.

Service warning
The color of the indicator/symbol usually indicates how urgent or dangerous the problem is. Blue and green simply indicate that the light is active, yellow indicates a minor fault or something that requires attention soon, and red, or especially flashing red, indicates a fault that requires immediate attention.
Here are the main warning lights, symbols, meanings and corresponding actions for the first generation Fabia 1999-2007, second generation 2007-2013 (2014) and third generation 2015 to date - MPI, TSI and TDI versions.
Wrench icon
Appears on the MAXI DOT instrument panel/display when vehicle service or inspection is required. If you service your Fabia yourself, or if you've already had it serviced at a dealership but forgot to reset the service interval reminder, read on to learn how to reset the reminder.
Danger and attention symbols (red and yellow exclamation marks)
New Skoda Fabia models use warning triangles with an exclamation point to indicate certain other warning signals. If the warning light comes on and is accompanied by a red triangle, this indicates danger. Immediate action is required here. This may be hazardous to the safety of passengers and/or may result in damage to the vehicle. A yellow triangle indicates a warning and requires attention as soon as possible.
Transmission fault indicator (red)
A gear with a red exclamation mark indicates a gearbox/transmission fault and is only displayed on the MAXI DOT display. If the icon is highlighted with a red danger triangle, you may encounter one of two warnings:
- STOP VEHICLE GEARBOX OVERHEAT. Stop the car and turn off the engine. You can continue your journey as soon as the interval indicator light goes out.
- GEARBOX FAULTY WORKSHOP. Stop the car and turn off the engine. Seek help as you are unable to continue your journey.

Transmission fault indicator (yellow)
If the icon is highlighted with a yellow attention triangle, you may see one of the following messages:
- GEARBOX OVERHEATED. You can continue your journey, but you must do so carefully.
- GEARBOX ERROR REV_ GEAR NOT AVAIL. You can continue your trip. Reverse gear is not available.
- GEARBOX ERROR. You can continue driving. Seek assistance from an engineer as soon as possible.
Battery warning
The alternator/battery warning light will come on when a fault is detected and the system will not be able to charge it. Immediately turn off all unnecessary electrical appliances to save energy. If the coolant light comes on at the same time as the alternator light, stop the vehicle as soon as possible, turn off the engine and do not continue driving as there is a risk of engine damage.
Coolant temperature/level warning
- Red. Fabia engine coolant is too hot or the level is too low. Stop and turn off the engine as soon as possible and allow it to cool for at least 20 minutes. Check the coolant level and add it if necessary. If the light comes on again and the coolant level is sufficient, call for assistance immediately. In new generations of Fabia, the MAXI DOT display may show an engine coolant indicator together with a red warning triangle.
- Blue. The engine coolant is cold and the engine has not reached optimal operating temperature. Avoid high engine loads.

There are several options for resetting values, depending on the presence of Maxidot on the instrument panel.
Maxidot (Maxidot) is a type of on-board computer. Located in the center of the dashboard between the tachometer and speedometer. To quickly determine its presence or absence, see if the car icon is displayed (see picture); if so, it is there. Otherwise, you have a regular on-board computer.

If your car does not have a Maxidot, then you need to do the same steps as for the 2nd generation Fabia.
If available, do the following:
- Press and hold the daily mileage reset button (the ignition must be turned off!).
- Turn on the ignition (continuing to hold the key). A display appears with the inscription “Reset

The display shows a message indicating how many kilometers or days a service will be required. If this moment has come, when turned on, a flashing icon with a key is displayed for 20 seconds. The following message appears on the screen: “Service now!”
It is easy to reset data on Skoda Superb cars starting from 2008. But first you have to figure out the location of the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel. On the right there is a wheel with which you select items in the menu. You will also need the lower left switch with an arrow; it is used to go to the settings section. The interval is reset as follows:
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press the switch located under the steering wheel down and wait until the main menu opens.
- The switches on the steering wheel will be used as arrows when navigating through the menu.
- You must select the “Settings” item, then go to the “TO” section.
- Next, you need to click on the inscription “Reset”, when the request appears on the screen, answer “Yes”.
If an LCD information display is installed, you need to go to the menu to get information about how many kilometers are left before the service. To do this, you need to go to the “Settings” section. The operation is performed according to the same scheme as on the Fabia model with an LCD screen.
For the Skoda Superb 2 model, produced from 2008 to 2015, you can use two methods. The first is to use the multifunction steering wheel. To find out the procedure for carrying out operations, you can see the instructions presented above for cars manufactured in 2008 and later.
The second way is to use the buttons on the windshield wiper switch, if included. Below is a short guide:
- Turn the ignition key.
- Now you need to find the “Settings” item in the menu. To switch between menu items, click on the upper or lower half of the switch located on the right. This button is used instead of the arrows to move up or down.
- To enter, select “Settings” by clicking on the bottom button on the left.
- From the submenu that opens, you need to go to the “Service” section.
- Select “Reset” and click on the bottom switch located on the left.
- Click again to clear the TO memory.
- Turn off the ignition.
How to reset service on Skoda Yeti
Drivers still often have difficulties with this car. The reason is that Yeti has different configurations, and each one performs interval reset differently. In cars produced after 2013, there is a clock button on the right, and a reset key on the left. Detailed step-by-step instructions for resetting are presented below:
- Turn off the ignition.
- Press and hold the service interval reset button for 5 seconds.
- You must turn the ignition key and then release the switch.
- If the screen does not display the inscription, you need to press the key to set the clock.
- The program will ask if the data needs to be reset. You need to turn the wheel on the right to about and click on the center.
- The TO indicator should reset to zero. The ignition must be turned off and then turned on immediately.
- When turned on, the “Service Oil” sign should disappear.
Video showing the interval reset process:
It happens that the service indicator lights up. In this case, operations are performed according to the same scheme, but they are performed with the alarm system turned on. It is necessary to activate the emergency lights before performing any manipulations.
If the model is equipped with a multifunction display, manipulations are performed with the ignition on. The procedure is the same as when resetting the service interval on Skoda Superb and Rapid. In the same way, the user goes to the menu, goes to settings and goes to the “Service” section, which has a reset function. The only difference is that after clicking “Reset” you need to click again to confirm the reset. It is important to press the key quickly, otherwise the data reset menu will close.
