Lada Kalina cars of both generations have front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.
As original front brake pads for Kalina 1, the catalogs indicate 21100-3501080-00 and 21100-3501080-01, for Lada Kalina 2 the article number is 11180-3501080-00. The same catalog numbers are used for Lada Priora. Factory brake pads TIIR

Rear drum brake pads are specified as 21080-3502090-01 or 11180-3502090-10 (with ABS) for Kalina 1 and 2.

Many of these part numbers are invalid; instead, online parts stores offer other original part numbers or equivalents. This makes sense, since in the case of the Lada Kalina (and LADA in general), the original is often inferior in quality to its substitutes .

The most popular brake pad analogues are Ate, Brembo, TRW, TSN, Finwhale and Ferodo. The latter are divided into two types according to the color of the box - “red” and “green”. “Green” ones, with the prefix Target in the name, are positioned by the manufacturer as an improved replacement for factory pads , but they are not intended for heavy loads. Red, with the prefix Premier, are considered premium pads that can withstand extreme loads.

The best-selling disc brake pads for Lada Kalina are products from Ate, followed by Brembo and TRW. Drum brake pads for Kalina are most often purchased from TSN due to its favorable price. They are slightly inferior in popularity to TRW and Ate pads.

The brake pads indicated here are also suitable for other VAZ cars: 2110, 2114, Lada Granta and others, with R13 and R14 brake discs.

Front brake pads are replaced approximately twice as often as rear brake pads. The exact frequency of replacement is quite difficult to establish, but the front pads are changed at intervals of 30-50 thousand km, and the rear pads at intervals of 60-90 thousand. To more accurately determine when Lada Kalina brake pads need to be replaced, it is worth checking the thickness of the friction linings every 15,000 km. A thickness of about 2 mm is considered critical.

Drivers are often motivated to change brake pads on Kalina by squeaking brake pads. Special plates installed on the disc brake pads from the outside help significantly combat this. That's what they call them - anti-squeak plates . Such plates can often be found in more expensive brake pad sets. However, you should choose brake pads not based on the presence or absence of anti-squeak plates, but on the basis of reliability and braking efficiency.

Which brake discs are better to put on Kalina

Preface

Generally speaking, the records have already been recorded for six months; there was no time to complete them. But my thoughts are a little worn out and there will be less text than usual)

Selection of spare parts

The reason for the search was wear and tear, but since I wanted to change it, I wanted to buy something cooler so that it would brake better.

Discs

I looked at various foreign disks - Bremo, ATE and others - some too expensive, others of unknown quality.
I thought about taking the perforated ones from sports - 21120-3501070-88 - the price is normal (about 2500), 2 pieces included. But then I read the reviews: sometimes the discs crack, and most importantly, they brake no better than standard ones. Plus, some write about vibrations and hum when braking from 100 km/h. The only plus is better cooling, that is, you can brake more times from 100 km/h - I don’t need it, the standard ones suit me just fine. Therefore, I decided to take regular standard wheels - 21120-3501070-0 *

The effectiveness of a car's brakes depends on many factors. Brake discs play a certain role in this. Do you know which brake discs are best to choose for Lada Priora/Kalina/Grant?

Features of Kalina Sport

Lada Kalina Sport was created in 2008. After the release of the first car, the state registration of the model was successfully completed. Soon Kalina Sport cars were sent to Yaroslavl, Moscow, Izhevsk, Vologda, Voronezh, Perm, Volgograd, Kirov, Orenburg, Krasnoyarsk and other cities of the country.

Lada Kalina Sport is very similar to the Lux model. The sports version of Kalina differs in that it contains quite a lot of different original parts. These are door moldings, an exhaust pipe nozzle, a combination of various instruments with white scales and orange backlighting, original bumpers, a spoiler, and a nameplate on the fifth door. The interior of Kalina Sport is made in an elegant dark color, which gives it a special chic and uniqueness. The car is equipped with special sports pedal pads.

If we talk about brake discs on Kalina Sport, then most car enthusiasts claim that they are better on a regular Kalina. Of course, opinions differ, so which brakes to choose when purchasing a car is up to the buyer himself to decide. Good luck in choosing a car!

Installing R14 brakes instead of R13

According to the data from the table, you can see that to switch from R13 to R14 brake discs, no modifications are required and the cost of modification is low (buy R14 brake discs and fixed caliper brackets).

Don't forget to check that the rims are at least R14 in diameter. We improve the brakes using the familiar instructions for replacing brake discs.

Most car owners, after installing R14 brake discs, feel a noticeable difference when braking and remain satisfied. However, this is not the limit, the brakes can be made even better!

Installation of brake pads and discs from a foreign car

Instead of original VAZ brake pads and brake discs, install consumables from a foreign car, for example:

  • Brembo brake discs (article: 09.8903.75) or ATE Power Disc 14 (article: 24.0320-0142.1);
  • pads from Fiat (article: 13.0460-2813.2) or BMW (article: 180281).

No modifications or design changes to the brake system are required. The maximum that may be required (for example, for pads from BMW) is to slightly file the caliper brackets.

Tormoza_Kalina zr9–14_1

We undertook to prepare the editorial VAZ-21927 for participation in amateur circuit racing. Let's try to find a balance and build a car that can not only show decent results in lap time trials, but also drive with pleasure every day - after all, reliable brakes, a powerful engine and good handling will not hurt on public roads.

First of all, of course, the brakes. Moreover, the front ones: during intense deceleration, a significant part of the car’s weight is distributed forward, so it is they who bear the main burden of converting kinetic energy into thermal energy. How can we evaluate how much better the mechanisms we have chosen compare to the standard ones? We decided to use a complex parameter - we will record the time of passage of the Smolensk Ring. After all, the more effective the brakes, the longer you can keep the gas open and hit the brake pedal closer to the entrance to the turn. Let's look not only at the peak deceleration values, but also at the stability of the brakes: how many laps can the tuning mechanisms withstand without stopping?

Before the start of the tests, Kalina was prepared: the engine oil was changed and Motul-RBF660 brake fluid with a boiling point of 325 °C was added - this is used in racing cars. True, for the winter it will have to be replaced with a regular one: it is too hygroscopic.

The original wheels were put aside. Firstly, there is nothing to do on standard size universal tires on the race track. Secondly, larger brakes require a different disc size. We settled on 15×6.5 ET35 wheels from Togliatti: the forging is light and durable, and the size is suitable for all AvtoVAZ models. On the attached documents there is a warning: the letter S in the model name indicates only a sporty design, the wheels are not intended for competitions. Slick actually makes custom wheels for racing. But all the fret enthusiasts whom we interviewed also drive products “from the store” - and did not notice any problems.

VERDICT

Sergey UDOTOV, RHHCC champion

Proma Brakes were the first to evaluate the brakes. Excellent stability in a series of combat circles, good force-deceleration feedback.

Then there was a series of laps with a set of JBT brakes. The braking points before turns on the track are almost the same as with Proma Brakes, but I liked the information content even more. The JBT withstood a series of eight combat laps with dignity, did not start to “swim”, and the brake pedal became only a little softer.

To summarize, I note: both kits are an excellent solution for tuning the standard brake system. It is difficult to say how feasible this is without increasing the power supply of the vehicle. In the championship in the “time attack” discipline, such high stability in a series of combat circles is useless; you can completely limit yourself to replacing the pads in the standard calipers with more “evil” ones.

How to do the replacement yourself

Before starting repair work, we carry out comprehensive diagnostics in order to study the general technical condition of the car, identify the breakdown, calculate time, effort, and resources. Often the cause is a faulty working cylinder, system depressurization, or pipe damage.

We carry out diagnostics by placing the car on the inspection channel, jacking up each wheel one by one, and measuring the thickness of the disk. If the actual value is less than 17.8 mm. - replace it with a new one, subsequent operation is unsafe. Otherwise, we continue the inspection and troubleshoot the brake pads and working cylinder.

VERDICT

Oleg PETRIKOV, “Behind the Wheel” test driver, Russian vice-champion

I really liked the Proma kit for its deceleration efficiency. With it, in addition, the clarity of the drive has improved - it’s easier for me to control the deceleration with pedal effort, although I admit that this will cause some difficulties for ordinary drivers. I think most motorists will like the HP Brakes kit, which is similar to “civilian” brakes in terms of pedal movement and force on it.

In each case, Kalina does not become much faster on the race track, and it was not possible to assess which set will last longer - even after fifteen laps in racing mode, the front brakes do not lose effectiveness.

In everyday use of the Lada, standard mechanisms are quite sufficient. It makes sense for residents of regions who operate their cars on mountain roads to install more efficient ones.
