take the diagram. smoke it. First of all, check for the presence of + 12V after the bimetallic fuse, if it is external to the motor. If there is no +12V or it disappears immediately after it appears, then: – the bimetallic fuse has blown – the motor or trapezoid (usually the shafts on which the wiper arms are attached) are jammed. It’s better to check them manually right away - they should turn very easily.
Let's move on to the second stage. If the wiper relay clicks in all modes, then two malfunctions appear: - the insides of the fuse block are out of order - check the voltage at the contacts of the upper connector of the fuse block with a tester (better) or a tester. It is better to compare the voltage with the voltage at the battery contacts. If it is significantly lower or absent, then the problem is in oxidized contacts and the insides of the fuse box. – the gearbox of the motor is jammed, its windings are burnt out (checked by a continuity tester), the contacts inside the motor are oxidized, the adjusting screw of the worm gear is overtightened, the bearings are scattered/acidified. Motor disassembly, cleaning, lubrication.
Voltage can be supplied directly to the motor, if in a car, then it’s a good idea to use a fuse or a light bulb in series to prevent a short circuit from happening accidentally (in general, follow safety precautions when working with electrical installations).
Variants and combinations of the above should lead to a positive result. _________________ WBR, Vladimir.
Failure of windshield wipers during sudden rain or snowfall is a very unpleasant thing. In this case, until all problems are resolved, you are simply unable to move, since visibility can drop to almost zero. That is why it is better, even in more favorable weather, to make sure in advance that the wipers are working flawlessly.
How do trapezoidal wipers work?
We'll talk about the trapezoid. It is responsible for converting the rotational impulse of the motor into the translational movement of the windshield wiper blades. ... The principle of operation is as follows: the windshield wiper motor creates a rotational movement of the finger and sets the trapezoid itself in motion.

We repair and replace the windshield wiper motor ourselves
The windshield cleaning system in your car should always be in working order. After all, no one knows when to turn on the wipers, and the driver’s safety while driving largely depends on them. We will tell you more about how to change the windshield wiper motor yourself and in what cases it is necessary below.
Geared motor from Volkswagen Transporter
Volkswagen's electric motor requires a little modification, but those who go this route are usually satisfied with the continued performance of the wipers and the stability of the windshield wiper.
This replacement requires minor modifications. In the 2005 “dozen”, the electric motor is connected to the trapezoid using a lever that has a large hole. Therefore, it is enough to change the lever (take a new sample), and everything will fit perfectly.
And one more point: when installing the motor on a trapezoid, you cannot place the engravers together with the bolts so that the crank does not touch them during operation.
Windshield wiper motor VAZ 2110 v10-07-0001 from Volkswagen Transporter
Such a replacement will save you from slow wipers, and even in heavy rain they will do a good job of their task - providing good visibility.
Disassembling the gearbox
If the wiper does not work due to contamination of the gearbox, then it will not be difficult to clean it. But under no circumstances should you unscrew the adjusting screw installed in it - otherwise you will most likely not be able to properly restore the armature clearance later.
The procedure is as follows:
- remove the protective panel from the gearbox;
- remove the gear;
- take out the cage nuts, having first unscrewed two bolts;
- The gear housing is disconnected together with the brush holder from the motor;
- the anchor is removed and cleaned with a compressor.
Removing the rear wiper generally follows the same algorithm, but you will also have to remove the door trim to get to the wires and other elements.

What is a windshield wiper motor?
All cars, trucks and other vehicles are already equipped from the factory with mechanisms for cleaning glass, including windshield wiper blades. In its standard form, it consists of two holders with rubber bands on the windshield and one holder on the rear window (for cars with a station wagon or hatchback body). All windshield wipers have three modes of operation, during which they move quickly, slowly or at an intermittent pace.
All windshield wipers are equipped with a special electric motor with geared torque transmission. Two mechanisms designed to operate the windshield wipers are attached to the motor shaft. One rotates the wipers to a certain position on the windshield, and the second is responsible for moving the wipers to their original position. The lever system supports the wipers throughout operation.
In fact, the electric motor rotates without stopping, and a special mechanism is responsible for moving the wipers, which allows them to rotate and quickly return to their original position. This mechanism is called a trapezoid wiper. It consists of a set of levers that move the wipers across the windshield.
In addition to the windshield wipers, the glass washer system is also responsible for a normal view of the front of the road. It is a tank with a special liquid, which, under the action of a pump installed in the tank, is pumped into the system and sprayed on the windshield. It is extremely important that these mechanisms are always in good working order. This is due to the fact that on the planned day of the trip the weather can easily turn bad and driving with a faulty windshield wiper system can become very dangerous.
Dismantling the device
In rare cases, the front or rear windshield wiper motor stops working due to some manufacturing defect.
The problem is extremely rare, however, if you become a victim of it, there is nothing left to do but start special repairs. To complete the procedure successfully, perform a complete dismantling . It is no secret that such a process is quite troublesome and time-consuming. Especially if you have to repair a part from old cars, such as Tavria, KAMAZ, Priora, and so on. In this case, you will have to use several separate steps, including unscrewing the nuts that act as fasteners for the levers.
In the future, you can begin to remove the levers themselves from the tapered splines of the drive. If you have any difficulties at this stage, the splines can be treated with penetrating lubricant . Next, the lever drives are dismantled by unscrewing the nuts, as well as removing the rubber gaskets and plastic bushings.
In the harness, the wiring block is disconnected and pulled out using the raised edge of the seal, through a special slot in the partition of the engine compartment. The next step is to remove the windshield wiper .
Now you will have to unscrew the washer from the removed device and remove the spring retainer . And also you can’t do without disconnecting the rod. As a result, all you have to do is dismantle three bolts and remove the engine. After a full visual inspection, begin replacing any faulty parts.
If this does not give any results, the only way out of the situation is to buy a new motor . If the problem is resolved, the glass cleaning system must be reassembled in the reverse order.
Replacement features and diagram
If, after a thorough diagnosis, you were able to determine that the motor is faulty, think about replacing the failed unit.
At this stage there are no special difficulties, so even an inexperienced beginner can easily solve the problem. True, you must understand that the features of the procedure vary depending on the model of a particular vehicle.
Therefore, before performing a series of any actions, pay attention to the technical features of the system , read the service manual for the car.
- First of all, you must unscrew the nuts securing the brush arm. The help of a wrench will come in handy here. Then remove them from their installation location. If difficulties arise, use a penetrating lubricant.
- Then you need to remove the lever drives by unscrewing the nuts that secure them.
- The next step is to disconnect the connector with the wires in the harness and lift one part of the seal through the hole formed.
- As a result, all that remains is to dismantle the wiper itself. Then remove the washer and spring mount. After successfully achieving such goals, all that remains is to disconnect the pull rod, unscrew the three screws and remove the motor. Unit repair is characterized by particular simplicity and speed of execution.
The windshield wiper motor is located in a waterproof housing under the windshield, and the rear wiper motor is located in the tailgate. The corresponding cladding must be removed for inspection. In the future, the front wiper motor will be considered, and the rear wiper will be dealt with accordingly.
At the request of workers
“E” is “minus”, “+1” “+2” is respectively “plus” And why are there no electricians on the forum? tell
That's how I connected it. I think there’s just not enough current in any 12-volt units
There is a circuit - what is the problem with supplying voltage through it? E - minus. +1 - winding of the first speed of operation, +2 - winding of the second speed. one of them is supplied with a plus. but to determine the initial position of the brushes there is a built-in breaker contact, which operates through terminals B and S. through B the plus is switched, while the position is not zero, there is a plus at the output of S. those. for intermittent mode, through the steering column, plus is constantly supplied to terminal B and plus is supplied once to terminal +1 (to start the motor). then the plus that comes with S still continues to be supplied to +1 through the steering column switch. after a full revolution, the breaker in the motor is triggered and the S plus disappears at the output.
Don’t even think about applying voltage only through terminals +1 and +2! and then there are craftsmen. there is very little resistance, the current is crazy, the motor runs at a very high speed and burns out very quickly.
Design of the washer on the “nine”
The diagnostic procedure is perceived as more accessible if you are familiar with the design of the module. And here it is, almost like on the Lada Vesta - it consists of simple elements:
- tank;
- 2 motors (rear and front);
- pipelines;
- 3 injectors (two on the front of the hood, one on the rear);
- wiring.
This concept has become widespread on new hatchbacks. Carburetor versions have a different layout. One motor and two electromagnetic valves (EMVs) are installed there, distributing, respectively, to two channels.
Main malfunctions of the mechanism and ways to eliminate them
When is windshield wiper motor repair required?
Before removing, checking the motor and replacing it, familiarize yourself with the main defects of the unit:
- The device does not work, the safety element does not work either, but its integrity does not work. In this case, you should first diagnose the integrity of the wiring and contact connections, and if damage is detected during the diagnostic process, they must be removed. If everything is fine with the wiring, then you need to check the steering column brush switch; it may be that it is out of order. Naturally, the problem may lie in the electric motor, for example, its contacts are burnt or the brushes are acidified; if this is the case, then it will need to be repaired or replaced. It would not be superfluous to diagnose the wiring that goes to it and the block. It is recommended to clean the safety element or replace it if cleaning does not produce results. If after performing all these steps the system still does not work, then it will be necessary to diagnose the integrity of the winding of the so-called motor armature. If the diagnostics show that the circuit is missing, then either the armature or the entire electric motor assembly is replaced.
- The brushes do not work, although the safety element is working, and the fuse in the power circuit often fails. In this case, the levers are diagnosed - perhaps they cannot work as a result of deformation or freezing of the brushes to the windshield. It is much worse if the failure of the unit is caused by a small short circuit in the armature circuit, then you will have to decide what to change directly - the armature or the gear unit.
- The device does not operate in intermittent mode. Typically, such a malfunction is due to the failure of a relay or switch. In both cases, it is better to replace the failed mechanism.
- The wipers operate intermittently, but do not stop. In this case, the problem usually lies in the inoperability of the relay or limit switch. If the reason is the switch, then most likely the spring plastic is not pressed to the end by the gear, and in this case it will simply need to be bent (the creator of the video is Igor Ivanov).
Motor repair
Many people think that replacing the motor with a similar one from a foreign car can solve the problem with the slow operation of the wipers, but in fact, it is often enough just to clean and lubricate the “original” engine.
If the speed of operation causes complaints, then it is necessary to check how easily the armature rotates: if movement is difficult, damage or excessive wear of the brushes should be suspected. They are easy to replace with new ones.
Cleaning the collector will also help - this will require fine sandpaper. The need for this procedure is said:
- visible contamination;
- noticeable scratches;
- grooves on the metal.
It will be necessary to replace the armature or gearbox along with the complete motor if the manifold is too worn or burnt.
Adjusting the operating speed is necessary if the windshield wipers operate too slowly. This is facilitated by:
- incorrect (too tight) lubrication;
- gear wear;
- rod deformation
Eliminating these problems basically makes it possible to speed up the wipers and, moreover, significantly.

Today, the next article in the series “Crystal VAZs or typical breakdowns of domestic cars” is dedicated to the “classics”: VAZ-2101, 2103, 2104, 2104, 2105, 2106 and 2107. These cars have been driving along our roads for decades and, despite Despite all the shortcomings that we will talk about, their popularity is still high.
Possible reasons
Wiring
Disconnect the windshield wiper wiring harness. Next, we need a tester to check for the presence of current on this block.
(Diagram A) at terminal 6 there should be a voltage of about 12 volts (depending on the state of charge of the battery), ground 4, fuse 4 and 5 (in the mounting block in the diagram), switch, ignition switch, etc.
As a rule, the absence of any contact indicates oxidation of the wires in the mounting block, so carefully study the diagram and strip the necessary wires.
Inoperability of the steering column wiper switch
To check, first turn on the first mode, then the second (second and third click on the steering column switch), then check on the wiper block for the presence of 12V current at connectors 1 and 2, respectively.
If there is no current, we try to replace the steering column switch. If the replacement does not help, we look for a break in the wiring.
Geared motor
To check it, you need to dismantle the gear motor and try to turn it on directly from the battery. It is also worth noting that the gear motor includes a bimetallic fuse. On new models of the gear motor it is located in the motor itself, on old ones it is located next to the motor or on its housing. Be sure to pay attention to it.
If the motor is finished, do not rush to change it. He gets there in a couple of hours. Most likely the brushes on it have worn out or there is simply no lubrication.

Operating principle
On a VAZ 2107 car, the wipers are driven by a 12 V electric motor. A relay is installed in the windshield wiper activation circuit. It is responsible for the intermittent operation of the wipers, which work without interruption or at intervals of four seconds.
The windshield wiper is connected in parallel through the contacts of the closer. They are located in the gearbox housing and are “responsible” for returning the brushes to their original position and abruptly stopping the motor. The driver controls the operating mode of the windshield wiper using the switch. The whole mechanism works thanks to a motor. It is prohibited to operate a car with faulty wipers, so car owners must ensure that they are in good working order. And in bad weather, driving with non-working wipers is very dangerous!
Finding Electrical Problems
Each owner of a VAZ-2110 involuntarily paid attention to the clicks coming from the left side and the barely audible noise from the gearmotor when the windshield wiper was running. Therefore, at the initial stage of searching for the reasons why the VAZ-2110 wipers do not work, you need to check the performance of this particular product.
If the electric motor does not show any signs of life, you need to check the fuse located on the mounting block, which is located on the left side, under the headlight switch lever. If the fuse is in working order, this indicates a malfunction in the electric drive feeding system.
A multimeter will help determine the problem area in the circuit. You need to check the circuit from the fuse to the gearmotor, from it to the hydraulic corrector.
Naturally, it is necessary to check the fuse itself. If zero is constantly lit on the multimeter screen and a not very pleasant sound signal is heard, then the circuit is working properly. When several numbers appear on the screen, without sound, we move on - we move on to inspecting the terminals and wires.
You can troubleshoot the problem as follows:
- Clean and tighten all terminals that were checked with a multimeter.
- Replace wiring.
- Install a new lever on the steering column that turns on the windshield wiper.
Relay K2 (5243747), located in the mounting block, is responsible for the operation of the windshield wiper. If an intermittent mode is not observed during system operation, then it is time to change the relay. Under these circumstances, the hydraulic corrector also needs to be checked. If the windshield wiper relay has a defect, it will work wonderfully in the third extreme position of the right steering column stalk. A faulty relay does not stop working in all cases. Windshield wipers can function perfectly if they are turned on in position 1, but the fact that there is a defect and the relay is not working correctly will be indicated by pauses between sweeps of the blades. Often the relay simply goes away, and the wipers and heater do not work at the same time. In this case, you usually need to tighten the contacts.
In searching for the reasons why the wipers on the VAZ 2110 stopped working, you also need to check the limit switch located on the cover of the gear motor. It is also advisable to clean the contacts from oxide and bend the contact petals.
