On Ford Focus 2 cars, fuses are located in two blocks, which are located under the hood and in the passenger compartment at the passenger's feet. You can better understand the location in the picture below.

To gain access to the fuses in the passenger compartment, you need to remove the decorative cover under the glove box, at the passenger's feet.

Then, turning the fastening clips 90 degrees, lower the block and thereby gain access to the fuses.

Why does the cigarette lighter fail?

There are several reasons.

1. Connecting too powerful equipment. Some car enthusiasts connect high-performance vacuum cleaners and refrigerators to the cigarette lighter socket. The fuse may not withstand the load and burn out.
2. Water getting into the wiring. The device is sensitive to condensation and water ingress.
3. Mechanical damage to wiring. Cracks in insulation and breaks in power lines.
4. Burnt out filament of the cigarette lighter itself.

On the second generation, the cigarette lighter is connected directly to the battery.
The electrical circuit section is not related to the ECU, which allows you to connect various additional equipment and devices here. A special fuse is included in the device circuit. A 20A fuse link provides sufficient resistance to increased load.

An important point is that it is inadmissible to replace it with a more powerful one - this can cause the wiring to burn out and cause a fire.

How to replace the cigarette lighter on a Focus II

To replace the device, follow these steps.

1. Turn off the power to the machine.
2. Sit in the cabin, here you will need to remove the working part of the cigarette lighter.
3. Next, the backlight will come in handy. There are two latches inside the housing tube.
4. Use a flat-head screwdriver or a thin knife to bend the fasteners.
5. After this, you need to insert your finger into the sleeve and pull the cigarette lighter housing out.
6. The next step is to disconnect the device wiring.
7. When an element is removed, it can be replaced with a new one.

The cigarette lighter in the Focus does not work or how to change the fuse

A week ago, early in the morning, as usual, I went to work. I got into the car, started it, and plugged the power supply for the Karkam Q2 DVR into the cigarette lighter. The recorder is configured so that the miniature screen on it is always on. You can set it to turn off, but the recording will still go on. You can’t trust such technology, and that’s why I set exactly these settings. But this morning the DVR display did not light up, it itself did not turn on and the LED on the power supply did not light up either. I tried all the car chargers in the car - they don’t work. Conclusion - the cigarette lighter burned out.

The Karkam Q2 DVR has a battery that will not allow you to be left without video recording in such a situation. Because It became clear that the cigarette lighter was not working, so I turned on the recording from the internal power source and went to work.

I went to the service center in the evening. We identified a blown fuse, replaced it, and the cigarette lighter came to life. The foreman said that recently there have been a lot of requests for blown fuses, precisely because of the connection of DVRs. It might be a coincidence, it might not. Still, it’s impossible without a registrar.

The saddest thing in this story is that after 3 days the cigarette lighter stopped working again. This time I didn’t go to the service center, but bought a fuse at a car dealership, took out the instruction manual and went to change it myself. Next I will tell you how it was...

How to change a fuse in a Ford Focus 2

The internal fuse box is located under the glove box, i.e. glove compartment The fuse block itself is held on by two mounting bolts, which can easily be unscrewed by hand.

We gain access to the fuse box. The engine and ignition must be turned off!

Using the location diagram, we determine the required fuse and remove it. The fuse sits quite rigidly, so it is difficult to reach it with your fingers. You can pull it out by the plastic body with pliers.

The cigarette lighter is controlled by a 20A fuse, which is located in socket 109.

If the fuse is burnt out, it will be immediately noticeable by the burnt out thread inside. We replace the fuse with a new one, simply plugging it into the same socket.

All that remains is to tighten the fastening bolts of the fuse box and check the functionality.

How to correctly connect the cigarette lighter directly to the battery via a fuse

An option involves performing an operation.

1. Remove the dashboard. Usually the entire console and trunk lid are removed.
2. Prepare 3 meters of cable with a cross-section of 4 squares and a piece of wire for connecting the ground. You will also need a remote fuse socket and a 20A fuse link.
3. Through the technological hole, stretch the power core to the battery and solder it to the positive terminal.
4. Stepping 30-40 cm away from the battery, make a break in the line and solder the fuse socket into it. For reliability, the contact should be placed under heat shrink.
5. The negative core should be placed on the screw in any convenient place.
6. In the passenger compartment, route the wires into the cigarette lighter mounting hole.
7. The backlight lamp should be connected to the interior interior lighting circuit.
8. After reassembling the console, connect the contacts to the wiring so that you can connect the cigarette lighter.
9. Collect all contacts and install the cigarette lighter in its socket.
