Where is the power supply and its electrical circuits located?
In the electrical circuit of the second generation Opel Zafira, two blocks are used to accommodate relays and fuses. The location of the main fuse box for the Opel Zafira B is under the hood. There is an additional second unit in the trunk. This block is located behind the decorative trim on the left side of the car.
Also, on all Zafira A, the fuse box is located in the instrument panel in the mounting block in the area of the driver’s left foot.

Replacing fuses
If any components of the vehicle's electrical circuit fail, it is necessary to check the fuse blocks of the Opel Zafira. A failed fuse, for example a cigarette lighter, must be removed from its socket. When replacing, you must install a fuse of the same rating. For a short time, you can use a fuse of a higher rating, but only after checking the operation of the circuit with a rated fuse link temporarily taken from another socket. If the new fuse immediately burns out, then you need to look for the cause of the short circuit in the circuit.
You can check the serviceability of the fuse with a test lamp. This work can be done on any car, for example, a 2012 Zafira. A video of such a check from the Auto World channel is presented below.
Under the hood
The replacement procedure is as follows:
- Turn off the ignition.
- Open the block cover. To do this, you need to push the slotted screwdriver into the groove of the latch and bend it to the side.
- The pliers and spare fuses are located in the trunk block.
- Identify the failed fuse using the diagram and the non-working electrical circuit. It can also be identified by its appearance - it will darken and the burnt thread will be visible.
- Remove the faulty fuse link and replace it with a new one.
- Check the functionality of the circuit.
- If re-burnout does not occur, then place the tongs in their original place and replace the lid.

In the cabin
On a car made in 2002, 2003 and other years of production of the first generation Zafira, you must:
- Turn off the ignition.
- Fold back the glove box and, pressing the side clips, remove it.
- Remove the housing secured with slotted screws (4 pcs.).
- Grasp the protrusion at the bottom of the mounting block and pull it out. On the back of the unit there is a plate with pictograms indicating the purpose of the fuses and relays.
- Remove the pliers, identify the burnt-out insert, for example, the one responsible for the operation of the rear lights, and replace it. Spare fuses are in the block.
- Check electrical operation.
- Put everything back together.
The video (by user Jacob Wiederker) clearly shows the fuse box of the 2001 Zafira.
In the trunk
The process of replacing fuses in the trunk block is almost the same as replacing inserts under the hood.
Algorithm of actions:
- Turn off the ignition.
- Open the back door.
- Find the cover on the driver's side trim.
- Press the two latches and remove it.
- Identify the failed part.
- Remove the pliers located in the block and replace the fuse.
- Check the electrical circuit.
- Place the tongs in place.
- Close the lid.

The Z16XER and Z18XER engines and their modifications are the most reliable. They have a fairly large resource, and finding spare parts for repairs is not difficult. The engines do not provide the highest dynamics, but their technical characteristics are sufficient for comfortable driving in the city and on the highway. Cars with these engines are recommended by most car owners.
When purchasing Zafira C, it is recommended to pay attention to A14NET. It provides good efficiency and smooth, stable traction
The turbine has an optimal torque shelf. It starts working almost from idle.

The video by Mr11vlad11 demonstrates the replacement of the windshield wiper drive safety insert on an Opel Astra N. The replacement process on the Zafira is identical.

Model range - budget offers up to 1,000,000 rubles
Among the models presented on the Russian market you can find both premium cars with excellent characteristics and the latest equipment, as well as rather old versions of equipment with a low price tag. The company tried to please all potential buyers, but its image in Russia was rather limited. Therefore, expensive cars produced by Opel are not yet very popular competitors to other premium brands. To understand all the features of budget transport from a German company, it is enough to consider the following proposal options:
- Astra Family - a sedan, hatchback and station wagon in a classic form, which provide a low price (from 655,000 rubles) and a classic design, good technology with somewhat outdated characteristics;
- Zafira Family is an old version of a family minivan, which looks quite adequate for quiet use in a large family, a good engine and good equipment make this car an excellent purchase, costing from 830,000;
- Meriva is another family car, but from a new model range, has a modern design, a more compact interior and not very powerful power units, costs from 780,000 rubles;
- The new generation Astra in hatchback, sedan and station wagon bodies is a completely new car with modern characteristics and an attractive design, excellent endurance and low fuel consumption, the model costs from 741,000 rubles for a hatchback;
- Astra GTC is a sporty 3-door version of the hatchback, which is perfect for active youth use or for a young family; a successful design is combined with an affordable price of 819,000;
- Mokka is a compact youth crossover with a successful design and excellent characteristics, a completely modern design of every detail, up-to-date technology and good interior design features, as well as a good price of 830,000 rubles.
This is what the lineup of budget vehicles from Opel looks like. Recently, the influence of General Motors designers and engineers on the appearance and technical equipment of Opel cars has become very obvious. If earlier the German concern remained authentic, today, in terms of inexpensive cars, all the equipment and many design features are taken from the corporation’s American models. However, in Europe Opel is perceived very positively. Unfortunately, the Adam model, a small hatchback with an excellent design and a lot of proprietary features, has not yet been presented in Russia.
A little history and geography from the Opel automobile concern
Considering the fact that the company is intended only for Europe, the geographical distribution of factory capacity is not so high. The company does not have production points in Brazil, India and Africa, as well as in China, as is common among modern brands. The company concentrates its production in Europe, as well as in Russia. Potential buyers of Opel cars in our country buy domestically assembled vehicles. Localization in the company is quite high, and the geography of the concern is as follows:
- There are four main factories in Germany that produce engines and some premium models;
- almost all models are manufactured at local factories throughout Europe;
- full-fledged production facilities are present in Belgium, Spain, Austria, Hungary and Poland;
- in the UK there is full-fledged production of Astra and some other models that are most popular in England;
- the Russian branch of Opel with plants in Shushary and Kaliningrad produces the entire model range;
- in Turkey and France, Opel cars are assembled at factories of third-party corporations in this field;
- The expansion of the corporation continues exclusively within Western Europe - here the concern sees its potential market.
The development of the brand is severely limited by the decisions of General Motors. For the sake of developing the Opel brand, the company withdraws Chevrolet from the European market and allows the Germans to remain the only official representative of GM in Europe. This promises a certain development of the corporation and the absence of internal competition. The company was represented very widely in Russia, but in the last year some production functions have been curtailed. The company partially left the market due to the crisis in the automotive sector. Not long ago, plans were announced to partially move production to Belarus.
The most popular power units
The most popular engines on the Zafira are the Z16XER and Z18XER. The 1.6-liter Z16XER power unit complies with Euro 4. Its modification A16XER meets Euro-5 environmental standards. This motor can be found on other General Motors vehicles.
Engine compartment with Z16XER engine
The Z18XER powerplant appeared in 2005. The internal combustion engine has a variable valve timing system on both shafts. The engine has a good service life, so repairs are rarely required before 250 thousand km. The A18XER model is software-strangled and complies with Euro-5.
Engine Z18XER
The A14NET motor appeared in 2010. Its distinctive feature is the use of turbocharging with a small volume of the working chamber. The engine is demanding on the quality of oil, as it is seriously loaded due to high output per liter of volume. A clicking sound is normal when operating an internal combustion engine. It is produced by injectors.
A14NET powerplant
Diesel engines aren't too common on the Zafira. The most popular is Z19DTH. It is highly reliable, but still sensitive to fuel quality. Often the particulate filter on power plants gets clogged, which is why many car owners install a fake one.
