With the help of tuning, the serial VAZ 2114 is transformed, receives a new, unique appearance, and turns into a car that brings real satisfaction to its owner. However, in a number of cases, technical modernization requires preliminary communication with representatives of the State Traffic Inspectorate in order to obtain permission to implement the planned changes. Otherwise, you may encounter problems with the further operation of the vehicle.

This interpretation of the stylish “fourteenth” model, of course, still takes some getting used to.

Interior

Interior improvements are no less varied than external tuning of the 2114 - the price for this can fluctuate quite significantly. As a rule, with a strictly limited budget, everything results in the installation of pleasant little things: an armrest, attachments, decorations, holders, installation of LED lighting, etc. More serious actions usually begin with high-quality sound insulation. To do this, the interior is disassembled, after which it is glued with vibration-isolating sheets on a rubber basis, as well as splenium. All layers are glued end to end and rolled with a roller.

How to increase engine power

There are various ways to modify a VAZ 2114 8 valve engine at home. They can be used either separately or in combination, depending on the desired result.

Increasing the volume of engine chambers

There is a direct proportional relationship between engine size and power. The most popular option for the VAZ-2114 is to increase the volume from 1.5 to 1.6 liters. (or from 1.6 liters to 1.8 liters depending on the specific engine model). To increase volume, you need:

  • install a lightweight crankshaft;
  • replace the pistons with forged ones and replace the piston rings with lightweight ones;
  • change the connecting rods that connect the pistons to the crankshaft;
  • increase the diameter of the cylinders and grind the surface (this is done to increase the number of crankshaft revolutions).

It is also necessary to replace the oil nozzles - forged pistons require oil cooling. And in the process of boring parts, old injectors become unusable.

Installing a new air filter

To increase engine power, an intake filter with reduced aerodynamic drag is used. As a result, air enters the mixer with less effort. This can add an additional 5-8 horsepower to the engine. At the same time, fuel consumption is reduced.

To tune the intake system, you need:

  • polish the internal intake channels (done in car repair shops);
  • install receivers;
  • install a throttle valve with a larger diameter.

Turbocharging installation

This is one of the most effective, but at the same time costly, methods for tuning the 2114 engine. The increase in engine power depends on the type of turbine used:

If a turbine is installed on a VAZ-2114, there is a high probability of premature exhaustion of the engine's life. This is due to the fact that all working elements wear out ahead of schedule.

Tuning the gas distribution mechanism

This method does not lead to early exhaustion of the engine's life and allows to reduce fuel consumption. To increase engine power, it is necessary to reduce the timing resistance and optimize its phases. Necessary:

  • bore the valve seats;
  • replace the intake and exhaust valves with lightweight ones;
  • you can change the guide bushings to lighter ones;
  • install the split gear and adjust it properly.

The most important element in timing belt tuning is the split gear. It is this that optimizes the valve timing.

The adjustment should be made at the moment when the piston is at its highest dead center - TDC. It is first necessary to adjust the position of the camshaft.

For lower and middle speeds, you need to reduce the angle of gas-dynamic boost and increase the opening angle of the exhaust valve. To adjust the gear, you need to turn the camshaft as the crankshaft rotates.

For high speeds, the camshaft should be turned in the opposite direction relative to the crankshaft stroke. Thus, the angle of gas-dynamic pressurization increases.

In order for your pet to lively follow such a call, it must, at a minimum, be a “very hot hatchback”. Therefore, the main task when tuning this model was a deep modernization of the engine with a boring of up to 1.7 liters and 200 hp.

To do this, the block was bored out, the bottom plate was ground, forged pistons and H-shaped connecting rods were installed, Mahle BMW rings, 19 mm STI pins, 431e Saab turbo injectors, and a reinforced sump. The clutch is a 200mm MecArm cermet and a lightweight 2110 flywheel. The brakes and suspension have been upgraded.

Externally, XXR 527 wheels and Nankang NS-II tires, racing side mirrors and hood mounts, as well as “4-eyed” lens optics inside the darkened headlights play a very important aesthetic role. After all these improvements, you can shout: “Go-Baby-Go”!

It is probably impossible to say directly what is the main thing in this project. This could include modifying the engine with a TD04HL-16T turbocharger and installing forged pistons, a VAZ-21126 head, lightweight valves and 16V TEAM80 camshafts.

Or high-quality “sound-tuning” with custom production of a huge subwoofer for two speakers, occupying the entire trunk. Or two-tone leather upholstery for the interior, steering wheel, and dashboard. Or external restyling of bumpers, moldings, darkening of the circle and installation of new German ENZO alloy wheels.

Everything here was done with great love and skill, so we should only talk about complex harmonious tuning, which preserved the original appearance of the VAZ-2114, very carefully improving it.

Interior tuning

Tuning the interior of the VAZ-2114 is carried out by many drivers, since it does not differ in elegance and beauty from the factory. Moreover, today there are no restrictions on making any changes in the cabin. Most creative VAZ-2114 owners prefer to make the following changes:

  • Replace the steering wheel. You can put a soft one, increase it in size or, on the contrary, reduce it.
  • Replace the dashboard. A modern instrument panel features a convenient display, non-irritating backlighting and much more.
  • You can change the chairs to more comfortable ones. Some even prefer eco-leather chairs.

In addition, a modern sound system with a GPS navigator can be installed in the cabin.

To create a “Special Edition” of any car, you need to work hard on both the appearance and the technical side. And in the case of Russian cars, you can run into very sarcastic criticism. And beautiful nameplates will not help here.

This VAZ-2114 tuning project, in our opinion, can proudly bear this title, it looks too cool and predatory compared to the stock one. All the chic of this project is aimed exclusively at the external design. The engine remains standard, but the exterior looks very JDM-like.

Lowered suspension, double-lip bumper, low-profile aero body kit, which goes well with wide wheels and low-profile tires. The riding position is just perfect, fast and comfortable for fast driving. Therefore, this car rightfully deserves the individual “Special Edition” nameplate on the rear edge.

VAZ-2114 “Rusty Bullet”

This project is called “Rusty Bullet” and is a deep tuning of the “14th model” into an almost rally car with wide wheel arches, a powerful “lipped” front bumper with mesh air intakes, large 225/45R18 wheels on spectacular alloy wheels and, accordingly, an enlarged clearance because of this.

But the most important thing in this project is the replacement of the standard engine with a C20SEL from an Opel Vectra with a volume of 2.0 liters and a power of 136 hp. This has significantly improved the dynamic characteristics of the VAZ-2114, so that the “Rusty Bullet” easily leaves behind the BMW 3-Series E46.

Release

As a rule, in this case, tuning is limited to installing a direct-flow muffler. There is a myth that such a measure can significantly increase engine performance, but this is not the case. Strictly speaking, there is an increase in power. However, it is so insignificant that it is extremely difficult to feel.

In addition, one muffler is not enough. High-quality work implies installation of the entire kit. This is a resonator with adjustable brackets (from 1,500 to 3,500 rubles), a tuned collector for 3,500 rubles. and, in fact, a muffler with an aluminum nozzle (round or oval) for 4,500 - 5,000 rubles.

VAZ-2114 “Six-Eyed Street Racer”

Another project to transform a stock VAZ-2114 into a lowered “street racing” car, at least externally. To achieve this, the suspension has been upgraded, ZEPPELIN Classic R15 wheels with Yokohama Parada spec 2 tires, six-eyed optics from Hella, Muscle Car (Custom) style hood locks have been installed, an additional lower lip and a tow ring have been added to the front bumper.

But the tuning was not limited to only external changes. The engine was seriously modernized using a multi-throttle intake, installing lightweight valves, sports springs, appropriate firmware, and then replacing the 8-valve with a 16-valve engine, which after modernization became 150-horsepower.

Chassis

It is necessary to understand that modifications to the suspension should not contradict traffic regulations.

But this does not stop enthusiasts who upgrade the brake system by installing different calipers, pads and brake discs.

There are also frequent cases of underestimation, and this is usually not done by purchasing special springs or installing air suspension. As a rule, owners simply saw off one or more coils from the springs. Naturally, everything is done approximately, and this significantly impairs controllability.

A reasonable question when it comes to a purely civilian car - it’s safer with front-wheel drive. But if you dream of drifting, then only the rear one. But if you have a VAZ-2114 at your disposal, and not a BMW, then you have to become an “auto-Kulibin” and convert the Lada into a rear-wheel drive monster.

The author, using units from BMW, made the “14th” with high-quality rear-wheel drive and a powerful engine. This is the basis for drifting! Here, high-quality turbocharging of the engine was carried out, after which the power of the 1.6-liter gasoline engine soared to 250 hp. Absolutely enough to “fall sideways” effectively and stably.

Thermal and sound insulation of the car

Domestic cars are known for the fact that in winter the interior is quite cold and very noisy when driving. This is all due to the unthought-out insulation of the car, that is, there is practically none at all.

Sidebar: Important: When upgrading a vehicle's interior, special attention should be paid to insulation. It is recommended to start tuning the VAZ 2114 interior by creating an insulating layer, and only after that move on to the trim, front panel or instrument panel.

To begin with, you should pay attention to the fact that partial sound insulation will not give the desired result. Most of the time, as a rule, is spent on dismantling work. In order to speed up this work, you should use the services of an assistant. You can also find the car's operating manual with a detailed description of how to dismantle the interior. After removing all the trim and factory sound insulation, which is present in a small amount. The metal surface is cleaned of dirt and degreased.

Features of installation work include:

  • The first layer to be applied should be Vizomat MP. It is glued to the entire surface: trunk, floor, doors, ceiling surface. This material is applied by heating it with a hair dryer, after which the film is peeled off and rolled out using a roller. Everything must be done quickly enough. Therefore, you should first cut out the most suitable pieces of material. When gluing, you should pay attention to ensure that there are no gaps between individual pieces of material, and that there should be no bubbles. The final result depends on the quality of this stage.
  • A vibration damper is used to absorb resonance that may occur during movement. Vibration is transmitted from the wheels to the body, which can be dampened with the help of such material. The vibration damper also acts as a heat-insulating material that can retain heat in winter and prevent warm air from entering the cabin in summer.
  • An ideal job is when whole pieces are used. However, if the work is carried out without assistants, then this is quite difficult to achieve. When using separate pieces, they should be joined with an overlap of 20 centimeters.
  • While performing work, do not forget that all technological openings, hatches, and ventilation grilles should not be sealed. They are necessary to maintain the correct microclimate and ventilate the body, which will prevent the appearance of mold.
  • The vibration-absorbing material should cover as much area as possible. The result of the work carried out will depend on this.

When tuning the interior of a VAZ 2114, it should be taken into account that the third layer, which is applied when insulating the interior, is Accent, about 15 centimeters thick.

The fourth material is Spleen, which works as a heat insulator. Such changes will make the interior as comfortable as possible. After completing this work, you can begin other changes to the interior.

This car looks like it just came straight from a designer's sketches. So everything looks perfect here. The entire tuning process was aimed at the exterior attractiveness of this specimen.

This is facilitated by a very harmonious lowering with an engine lift of 4 cm, rolling out the edges of the arches, modifying the exhaust and installing front “Nivov” springs. In addition, the central design element is BCW Power Tech wheels with Nankang AS-1 165/45/15 tires.

As a finishing touch to the body design, a leather Bonnet bra is installed on the hood, a Passat B3 front bumper splitter, headlight cleaners from a VAZ-2110, orange side lights and license plate lights, as well as high-quality “graphite metallic” paint. All this created an amazing image of a high-quality designer car with the prefix “clean”.

An interesting example of the extreme transformation of a VAZ car into a lowrider with air suspension. The author clearly worked on contrasts: huge, cut-out wheel arches with seemingly small wheels recessed into them create the effect sought after by all lowriders.

Among the interesting things: lambo doors that add technology to the entire project, dual exhaust, spectacular black R17 wheels with low-profile tires that create the effect of wire wheels, a 10-bar pneumatic signal, an engine lift of 2.5 cm and many other improvements. In general, the car has become the star of all lowrider festivals and shows, and this is exactly what every owner of such a car achieves when contemplating such a transformation.

To improve the crankshaft, the stroke is set to 75.6. Purchasing upgrade pistons marked TDMK in which the pin is moved by 2.3 mm clearly solves the issue of aligning the pistons from the block because the difference in height compared to the standard block is 2.3 mm. Such pistons cost about or more than two thousand rubles. The crankshaft is not expensive, within five hundred to six hundred thousand rubles. All the fun will cost four and a half or a little more than thousand rubles.

And the next two projects are related to the sports tuning of the VAZ-2114, which turns a civilian car into a full-fledged drag racing car.

The first project was implemented by a team from Novosibirsk. The car is clearly recognizable as “Samara”, and from the headlights, which in this case are simply not there, we see that this is a VAZ-2114. The sporty character of the car is indicated in the open “radiator”, a custom hood with an extension for the powerful engine that has not been removed.

Since the car is clearly front-wheel drive, wide “slick” wheels are located on the front axle and impressive arch extensions are created on the body for them. For better aerodynamics, there is nothing superfluous in the body: no handles, no rear-view mirrors, no windshield wipers, and the side windows themselves are clearly made without windows, “sportily” from plexiglass. The second sports version of the VAZ-2114 belongs to a team from Voronezh and is more similar in appearance to the original than the previous project. Here, more body parts remain from the stock car, although the powerful intercooler, large fender flares and huge slick wheels on the front axle clearly stand out under the number.

But this dragster can clearly drive itself to the competition site on public roads, as evidenced by the registration number of the established type. The predatory nature of the “fourteenth” is indicated by the bloodthirsty sticker of “mad Donald Duck” with a chain saw. And with the hood removed, the turbocharged engine is visible.

This 200-horsepower VAZ-2114 with a turbocharged engine has everything: sports bucket seats, a sports steering wheel, a short gear shift lever and shortened springs that make the ride sporty and rigid. And also the predatory appearance of the body painted “matte black” with lens head optics, a large air intake on the hood and a street racing front bumper with an impressively protruding lip.

Under the hood is an engine from a Lada Priora with a TD 05 16J turbine, low compression pistons and narrow-phase camshafts. For proper operation of the turbine, an intercooler is installed. The turbine pumps up a pressure of 0.8 bar. This is enough to bring the engine power to 230-250 hp. The car accelerates to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, and covers 400 m in 19 seconds.

Let’s end this selection of the best VAZ-2114 tuning projects on a cheerful note. For Victory Day, guys from Chelyabinsk converted a VAZ-2114 into a fake tank and drove it along the city streets, which caused a storm of delight among passers-by.
