Trunk installation steps

The installation consists of several stages. Open the car doors and remove the rubber seal. When performing work, move from the rear door of the car to the front. Open the mounting holes.

Try on the roof rails on a sedan or hatchback and mark their installation locations with a marker. Don't forget to make markings for the fairings. Degrease the marking areas, then treat them with an adhesion activator. If you notice that the fasteners do not fit well to the body, use double-sided tape. Carefully glue these places with it.

Cover with electrical tape those holes for fasteners that remain free. The plastic fairings are covered with double-sided tape. Remove the protective covering from it and bend it outward. Install the roof rails, do not overtighten the bolts. Install fairings.

The first representative of the generation of the Kalina model became a sedan with the index (Lada 1118). Budget sedan Lada Kalina, production of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant began production in 2004. Quite a lot of time has passed since the development of the Lada 1118 until its appearance on the assembly line. Prototypes of the model appeared in the 2000s, although the development and design of the Lada Kalina 1118 sedan began back in 1993. The 1118th sedan debuted, as already written in 2004, after two years of running the 1118th model around the world, production of a hatchback model (Lada 1119) was launched; after another year in 2007, the Lada Kalina model in a universal body was rolled off the assembly line. The first Lada Kalina, model VAZ-2118, brought great significance to the development of the (family) model range by the Volzhsky Automobile Plant. Albeit with shortcomings, the car turned out to be good and very successful, as you can see for yourself and no matter what they say about Kalina, they buy all Lada Kalina models without exception.

Many people like the appearance of the Lada Kalina, its rounded design shapes, in a word, in a unisex style, as is customary among the progressive generation. The rest of the vases simply blended in against the background of the streamlined viburnum. The interior of Kalina's cabin still shows good workmanship and quality of materials, an expressive, pleasant instrument panel stands out immediately, and quite good plastic. The design of the center console was far ahead for its time. And in general, the functionality and ergonomics of the 1118 are very harmonious. There were shortcomings in the models produced in the first years; Kalina owners highlighted the disadvantages: vibration of the gearbox lever and noisy engine operation. The Kalina family is small but friendly. Some are a little bigger, some are a little smaller, but together they can make it to the parade. The body of the Lada Kalina is made in several modern modifications: sedan, hatchback, station wagon, cross and sport. Their overall dimensions do not vary much.

The width and wheelbase are the same for all, as it should be for related models. But the length, height and ground clearance are different. Accordingly, the volumes and masses are different. The history of Lada models has seen long stagnation and a period of failure. In 2004, the release of the first Kalina from the assembly line ushered in a new era. Since then, new items appear almost every season, and the ranks of owners of the most popular car in Russia are growing from year to year.

The geometric dimensions of the body are important, but no less interesting is the volume of the trunk. All Kalina models are designed to allow the rear seats to be folded forward and increase luggage compartment space. The most voluminous trunks are for the sedan, station wagon and cross: 355/670 liters. “Hatchback” and “sport” are more modest - 240/550 hp. It’s also not bad, as many city car owners will agree with.

In the ranks of Kalina there is another model - Lada Kalina City (Oka-3), made on the VAZ-1117 platform. It appeared in 2005 and for some time was considered a replacement for the Oka small car, but this assumption is incorrect. It has almost the same dimensions, height and width as other Kalinas, only the length is 3650 mm. The result was a version of the Kalina hatchback, shortened by 20 cm and correspondingly lighter in weight - 980 kg. Next to the miniature Oka it looks incomparably larger. "Kalina City" is not widely used, but it can still be found on Russian roads.

Hatchback specifications

Lada Kalina hatchback, shown in Fig. 1, is offered to the buyer in various versions. In its family there are also not very expensive cars, including strong engines, manual transmissions, electric front windows, steering wheel adjustment, central locking, alarm, and immobilizer. More expensive models are equipped with airbags, a good media system, air conditioning, a heating system for mirrors and front windows, fog lights, and have a combined seat trim. The new Kalina is equipped with a good course stability system: the hatchback runs smoothly on a straight road, without any yaw on the sides. This is helped by tightly clamped shock absorbers, which affect the smoothness of movement, so there can be no vertical swing. When driving on rough roads, the car easily goes over small bumps and dents, and the vibration of the steering wheel is minimal. Deep depressions respond to the car with a dull thud, and the front suspension reacts especially loudly to potholes. Even the Luxury model is still filled with tire noise when there is oncoming air flow. The Lux engine is almost silent up to 5000 rpm. Ground clearance is 14.5 cm - when fully loaded, the Lada Kalina hatchback does not cling to the road surface with either the bumper or the bottom.

The Lada Kalina station wagon (factory code VAZ 1117) appeared on the country's roads in early 2007. This car was developed on the basis of the VAZ 1118 sedan, which entered the market 3 years earlier. Like all cars of this model range, Kalina 1117 was created for intensive driving in urban conditions and, depending on the configuration, was equipped with 2 different injection engines, which provided the car with excellent dynamics. Despite similar speed and technical characteristics, the station wagon had a number of advantages compared to a hatchback car. Firstly, it was 19 centimeters longer, which significantly improved the comfort of rear seat passengers and increased the volume of cargo carried. Secondly, the station wagon’s ground clearance is 2.5 cm higher, which ensures better cross-country ability on snowy and dirt roads.

During the production process, the machine was constantly modernized. In 2010, buyers were surprised by the new interior design. In 2011, the car began to comply with EURO 4 environmental standards and received an electronic gas pedal. But despite constant updates, in the spring of 2013 the 1st generation station wagon was discontinued.

How to influence the clearance level?

How to increase the clearance in your car? If you install wheels with an increased diameter and profile, then the ground clearance will certainly “increase”. It is interesting to consider an example of such forced action when using wide 215x55xR15 tires. With an increase in profile by 5%, the increase in clearance is 1 mm. Adding another five percent to the profile will increase the clearance by 2.5 mm.

If you are inclined to increase the wheel size, you should take a look at the factory recommendations. The maximum size of factory-installed tires reaches 185x60xR14 for the standard version of the Lada Kalina 2 and 185x55xR15 for the Cross version. Theoretically, it is possible to install a tire size of 195x40xR17, however, one should take into account the risk of tires hitting the wheel arches when driving over uneven surfaces and other consequences for the suspension that can cause its premature wear due to the increased weight of the wheels.

Also, an increased tire height can shift the center of gravity upward, which will worsen handling. Another important aspect is the danger of deformation of the rubber profile of the tire under the influence of the same increased weight. Here again there is a risk of rollover when cornering at increased speed, because body roll inevitably increases.

Let's also note the positive aspects of the larger wheels. This is not only an increase in ground clearance, but also an improved ability of the body as a whole to perceive unevenness in the road surface. The ride of the car is soft and smooth. Now you know how to increase the clearance of Kalina.

This version of the VAZ-1117 has been produced since December 2007 and immediately became the leader in the Kalina line in terms of load capacity:

The trunk size of the Kalina station wagon is 355 liters, and with the passenger seats removed this figure can be increased to 670 liters.

Its main dimensions are as follows:

height – 52 cm.

The second generation station wagon VAZ-2194 has similar body dimensions and similar cargo compartment dimensions. Depending on the type of interior finishing, the trunk may be 10 liters more or less.
