Why increase the stroke of the right wiper? I was always annoyed by the uncleaned area on the windshield, in the form of a “tooth,” but there was nothing to experiment with.

Since the electric windshield wiper drive in my car began to slowly die, I purchased a new drive with a trapezoid assembly. The idea of ​​such an improvement has been creeping in for a long time, and here it is!

A new trapeze went for the test subject.

I removed the bracket for the right wiper arm and, having marked a cutting line on it, sawed it with a grinder. Then I connected both halves back together using a piece of sheet steel 1.5 mm thick and self-tapping screws with a press washer. The length of the bracket after connection was 48.6 mm.

After assembling the trapezoid, a gearbox from the old drive was installed on it to check the progress. It turned out that it was not in vain - the short rod began to touch the frame of the trapezoid with its angle.

I corrected the thrust angle with a grinder, after which the trapezoid was installed on the car... and this is what happened!

It was very difficult to readjust the wipers because... the travel angle has already been changed. The result, of course, pleased me, but there were also disadvantages.. (The fact is that the right wiper began to park right next to the windshield rubber band. At first speed (dir. I and II) everything was fine, but at second speed (dir. III) the wiper was knocking on the windshield seal. The solution was to move the driver one slot higher. So I drove for some time, testing the modification.

The second trapezoid (factory) also waited its turn. I did the same thing with it, but making the bracket a little shorter. I decided to weld the joint with self-tapping screws, but something went wrong during welding and the bracket became even shorter than planned. Its length was 46.95 mm. Naturally, the rod had to be filed, but not only from the side, but also from the bottom.

I also had to trim the corner of the frame itself. (The positions of the bracket are marked on the frame: the red line is the stock position, the black line is after shortening.)

After installing the trapezoid on the car, I again encountered a problem - the right wiper began to park just below the rubber band, and by moving the leash one slot higher, the wiper was standing too high. It was decided to lengthen the thrust. It was cut in half and lengthened (in place) by approximately 0.8 mm and connected with a square rod 8 x 8 x 110 mm.

This is actually the result!

I am absolutely satisfied with this result!

There is a MYTH on the Internet that you can speed up the operation of the windshield wiper drive by supplying “+” through an additional relay, not through the ignition relay, but directly from the battery! Honestly, this is a MYTH! I checked it personally!

However, I got confused about changing the speed from first to second in mode I if I wanted. Having thought about it, I sketched out the following diagram on three 5-pin relays, according to which I soldered the relays, although it was possible to get by with just one relay.

This circuit is installed in the gap of wires 1 and 2, going directly to windings “a” and “b”. When the SA button is turned off, the entire circuit operates in stock mode. When SA is on: Through relay KM1 “+” is transferred from winding “a” to winding “b”.
