Methods of protection
Starline key fob alarm with auto start: models, operating instructions
The system ensures protection of vehicle zones using various control methods:
- When protecting the engine, the circuits of the fuel pump, ignition and control unit are blocked. Additional protection can be provided by installing Starline R3/R4 code controllers or digital R2 (operates via radio signal). All additional controllers are fully compatible with the head unit.
- Protection of opening body elements (doors, gas tank, hood or trunk lid) is carried out according to signals from standard or additional limit switches.
- Additional security is provided by monitoring the brake pedal switches and the parking brake lever.
- To protect body panels and windows, a shock sensor with a built-in tilt indicator is used. The device has two stages for measuring impact force. For minor impacts, the sensor triggers short warning signals with a siren. If there is a strong impact, it activates the alarm mode.
How to install
For Starline E91, the installation instructions require the following steps:
- Installation of the head unit. It is placed under the dashboard so that it can receive user commands from the key fob. Before installing the device, remove the decorative interior trim. The head unit is installed on a flat surface, secured with plastic ties or self-tapping screws.
- Siren installation. The part is mounted so that the wiring is protected from moisture. It is recommended to turn the horn down.
- Transceiver installation. The transceiver is placed on the windshield or rear window. Before starting work, wipe the surface with a degreasing compound. The device is secured using double-sided tape or glue.
- Installation of an emergency button. It is mounted in a hidden place and covered with electrical tape.
- Sensor placement. The parts are installed on flat surfaces. There should be no plastic or rubber layer between the body and the sensor.
- Installation of limit switch. This part of the system is mounted on the hood.
Connection diagrams
The Starline E91 car alarm is connected according to the following scheme:
- Providing grounding. The end of the ground cable containing the terminal is connected to the standard body nut.
- Connecting the positive terminal to the power circuit. If necessary, the head unit is connected to the positive terminal of the battery using an additional fuse.
- Relay connection. The protective device is connected by inserting the positive terminal. The relay and the head unit must be connected to different circuits.
- Connecting alternate control connectors. The door lock circuits are connected to output X3.
- Connection of the ignition and immobilizer wiring harness to outputs X3 and X4.
- Limit switch connection. The cable leading to the device is inserted into connector X4.
- Connecting an emergency button to output X8.
- Connecting a siren. The cable of this part of the system is connected to connector X1.
- Connection of the blocker bypasser to connector X1.
- Connecting auxiliary controllers to output X4.
How to use automatic start
To use automatic start, it is necessary to program the type of transmission at the installation stage (a jumper is provided in the main connector for automatic transmission; for manual transmission, the loop is removed). You should set the starter operating time and the type of ignition switch (with cylinder or push-button).
Basic Rules
When using autorun you must:
- Park the car on a level, ventilated area.
- Before programming, apply the parking brake and set the automatic transmission selector to the parking position, and for vehicles with manual transmission, carry out the procedure for activating the program neutral.
- Before programming, make sure that the battery is in good condition and that there is enough fuel, antifreeze and engine oil.
- Turn on air recirculation, which allows you to quickly warm up or cool down the car interior.

Initial alarm setup
The official manual for Starline A91 Dialog states that before programming and setting the settings, you need to link the communicator to the control unit installed in the car. Additionally, the initial setup of the security system includes programming a personal code and recording codes for digital radio relays for engine blocking.
Recording key fobs in the complex memory
In accordance with the Starline A91 instructions, the procedure for programming communicators is as follows:
- To start using the anti-theft system, you need to install a working battery in the control panel. The battery is inserted into a special compartment hidden behind the rear protective cover.
- On a car with the ignition system turned off, press the button to enter the service mode seven times.
- In the ignition switch, turn the key to the “ACC” position to turn on the system. The siren should emit seven sound pulses, which indicates successful entry into the remote control programming mode.
- On the control panel, press keys 2 and 3 simultaneously. These controls must be held until the siren sounds once. This indicates successful programming of the device.
The Starline A91 alarm system allows you to enter data about no more than four communicators into the control unit’s memory.
Entering the main menu for programming functions
To enter the settings menu for security and service options of Starline A91 Dialog, as well as engine starting parameters automatically, you need to perform the following steps:
- When the ignition is turned off, the button to enter the service mode is pressed five times if the service and security options are being configured. In the case of autorun, the number of clicks should be 6 pcs.
- The ignition is activated. The siren should beep five times, indicating that you have entered the setup menu.
- Using the service key, you select a function (the number of presses on it must correspond to the option number). Each number of the specified function is indicated by flashes of the LED light and sound pulses of the siren.
Table: programmable security and service functions
Table: programmable trigger functions
Personal code programming
The procedure for setting up a personal password is as follows:
- You enter the options settings menu, then you need to select one of the emergency deactivation code methods. To complete the task, you must enter the function programming menu 9. An indicator with the inscription “Pin Code” will appear on the communicator screen.
- You enter the personal password setting menu. When the ignition system is turned off, the button to enter the service mode is pressed four times. With each “click” on a key, the diode light comes on.
- The ignition system is turned on. The siren should sound four times.
- The button to enter the service mode is pressed once. If the control unit successfully enters the menu for setting the first digit of the password, the siren of the anti-theft system will emit one sound signal.
- Over the next five seconds you need to enter the first digit of your personal password. Short presses on the first, second and third keys assign the code values 1, 2 and 3, respectively. When assigning a symbol, the siren will sound the corresponding number of signals. When you press the first, second or third key twice (first long, second short), the password is assigned values of 4, 5 and 6, respectively. Symbols are assigned in a similar way for the second and third characters of the code, if it is two or three digits.
- To exit the programming menu, you must turn off the ignition system. Also, the exit will occur automatically if the user does not take any action to configure for ten seconds. External lighting devices should give five light signals.
Recording digital engine locking radio relay codes
If you additionally install a digital relay, it must be configured when the security mode is disabled:
- At the first stage, the operating mode of the device is selected. If the contact type should be normally closed, then the loop on the body of the part is preserved; if it is normally open, then it is cut.
- Enters the options settings menu. In accordance with the operating mode of the digital relay, method 3 or 4 of the tenth option is selected. After this, the function programming mode must be turned off.
- Then the conductors in black insulation of the recordable devices marked GND are connected to any standard “ground” bolt screwed into the body.
- The button to enter the service mode is pressed seven times. The ignition system in the car should be turned off at this stage.
- The ignition is turned on. The siren should beep seven times, indicating successful entry into the settings menu.
- Over the next five seconds, the black radio relay cable marked VCC is connected to the ignition system power line. If the Starline DRR relay is successfully programmed into the control unit’s memory, the siren should emit one extended beep. The remaining devices are linked in the same way.
Adjusting the shock and tilt sensors
In StarLine E90, both sensors are traditionally mounted in the transceiver module and are controlled only from the key fob.
The shock sensor has 14 sensitivity levels, the value 01 sets the minimum level, and 00 completely disables the sensor. To enter the settings mode, you need to disarm the car and press button 3 first long (a signal will sound), then briefly. First, the current warning sensitivity level will be displayed (short beep, machine does not go into alarm mode). Use buttons 2 and 3 to set the desired value. By pressing button 3 again for a long time and briefly, you will save the set value and proceed to setting the alarm level. Please note that the sensitivity value for the alarm level must be lower than for the warning level.

The tilt sensor is configured in the same way, but to enter the settings mode you need to use button 4. This sensor does not have two sensitivity levels.
Equipment and characteristics of the Starline A91 alarm system with auto start
When purchasing a Starline A91 alarm system (the price of the device varies between 3500-4000 rubles), the motorist receives a whole set of additional equipment, which includes:
- Instructions for installation and use of security;
- Two branded key fobs (main, with LCD screen and spare);
- Replaceable battery;
- Control module;
- Antenna;
- Shock sensor;
- Standard case;
- A set of wires for connecting component parts (we will look at how to connect an alarm system to a car later in the article);
- Sensor for the engine compartment;
- Temperature meter;
- Service key (where the jack button is located on the Starline A91 alarm system and how to use it, we will tell you in detailed instructions below).
After installing the listed components on your car, the owner can use the presented device not only as sound or silent security, but also for:
- Central locking control;
- Warming up the engine and interior (we will find out a little later how to set the automatic engine start time and indicate the required heating temperature);
- Immobilizer settings.
At the same time, the device is capable of capturing the signal from the key fob in 4 channels, at a distance of 700 to 1500 meters. And to power it, 25 mAh is enough, which can be obtained from a 12-volt battery.
Megacity Mode
This mode is no less important for the slave system. Indeed, using this mode, you can easily increase the range of operation and sending of alerts to the slave system. You can find out how to switch to this mode from the instructions. The instructions are included with the protection system itself. You need to know that before using the slave system directly, you need to thoroughly familiarize yourself with the instructions. There are two sensors on the sensor itself, with the help of which you will know about the stage of impact on your vehicle.

Setting up the key fob and labeling the buttons
On the body of the StarLine A91 alarm key fob there are three main buttons that are responsible for setting up the entire security system. Well, how to activate the desired option using them, see the table below:
It is worth noting that the “Valet” button is located not on the key fob itself, but in the interior of the car, so that it is not noticeable. But if the battery is discharged, or the door is opened with a key (without first resetting the alarm from the key fob), it becomes the only salvation for the car owner. After all, when it is pressed, the security system automatically switches to service mode, which gives the driver the opportunity to get to home or to the nearest service station.
In addition to the listed options, the operating instructions for the Starline A91 alarm also provide additional functionality, which is activated by combining two buttons:
- 1 and 2 keys (sequentially) – activation of silent alarm;
- 1 and 3 keys (alternately) – manual start of the engine (with the internal combustion engine already running, the combination of these two buttons extends the set timer twice);
- 3 and 2 keys (sequentially) – turn on the second channel;
- 1st and 3rd key (simultaneously) – key fob locking;
- 2nd and 3rd key (simultaneously) – unlocking.
We will look at how to attach the key fob to the Starline A91 alarm system after installation on the car in the article below.
Flexible configuration
A serious advantage of the E91 is the use of flex channels, which can be freely programmed both by activation event and by operating algorithm. Thanks to this, the alarm adapts to cars where additional connections are needed for the correct operation of the security system (like the simulation of opening the driver's door mentioned above), and is able to implement comfort functions.
In this way, the system is connected to the pre-heater, one of the flex channels is programmed to control it, the folding of the mirrors is configured after arming, and so on. One of the four additional channels is activated from the mobile application; this channel is selected in the service menu of the central unit.
When setting up each additional channel, the following are programmed sequentially:
- Delay from the moment of activation to the first pulse (from 1 second to 999).
- Duration of the first pulse (up to 998 seconds; when set to 999, the additional channel is turned on for an unlimited time until a shutdown event occurs).
- Delay until the second pulse is given, unless set to unlimited in step 2.
- Duration of the second pulse (same as setting the first).
Setting any step to 0 means skipping it.
Events for turning an additional channel on and off are set from a rich set of options and can be combined. We configure the additional channel to trigger when the central lock is closed and the ignition is turned off, when the engine is turned off with the key, and when it stops at the end of the autostart. Up to three conditions are used simultaneously.
Alarm systems are used to create simple anti-theft systems on cars. However, its architecture makes it impractical to install on cars that require power control of the central locking (since there are no power outputs to the actuators), and cars that use a LIN bus that is not supported by the system. Functions related to the LIN bus will have to be implemented via analog connections. The disadvantages of the system include the impossibility of keyless bypass of the immobilizer on your own.
Pairing a security system with a key fob
We have already found out how to turn off the Starline A91 alarm using the jack button and using which key combination to start the engine. But before you give commands to the device, you need to bind it to a branded key fob. And this is done as follows:
The same conjugation instructions, paired with a connection diagram for the Starline A91 alarm with auto start, should be present in the list of component parts of the device.
Well, if you don’t have one, then you can use the analogue attached above.
Description of this system
This system is, without any doubt, one of the most innovative systems for protecting vehicles. One of its main features is that its dialog control code is absolutely unscannable. The composition includes a keychain that is quite shock-resistant. Also, the difference between this system is that the warning range reaches 2 kilometers. Next, let's look at the advantages of starline e91 in the form of a list.
- First of all, it is necessary to note the dialogue system. The direct dialogue code, with the help of which the control itself is carried out, is a rather individual system. 128-bit encryption keys will protect you almost 100% from all existing hacking methods;
- The second feature is immediate protection from many interferences. The system, called starline e91, operates in urban environments without any difficulty. This feature is present due to the fact that the transceiver system has 128 direct channels;
- The starline system successfully carries out its main task even at low temperatures. Weather conditions are not at all a hindrance to this alarm;
- In addition, the car alarm system is quite energy-intensive. After all, it can carry out its work for a long period of time.
Setting up additional features
Previously, we found out that the StarLine A91 alarm system has auto-start functions based on a timer and engine temperature. Here's how to set the required engine start mode:
- By timer – key 3 is pressed once, after which the current timer value (from 2 to 24 hours) appears on the LCD display of the key fob. In order to increase it, just press button 1. But button 2 is responsible for decreasing the reading;
- For temperature – key 3 is pressed twice so that the icon with a thermometer flashes on the LCD display of the key fob. Well, you can set the desired temperature mode in the same way as in the case of a timer: button 1 - increase the value, and button 2 - decrease it.
But before you set up the Starline A91 alarm to autostart based on temperature or timer, you need to set the time on the key fob in advance. And this is done again with key number 3, which must be pressed until the device makes a characteristic melodic sound.
Autostart
For autostart, a standard external power module is used, common for StarLine alarm systems starting from the 3rd generation. The purpose and operating algorithm of the module's outputs are flexibly programmed, so the alarm is installed on cars with a start-stop button or several independent ignition circuits on the lock.
To bypass the standard immobilizer, use the crawler included in the kit. It requires removing the immobilizer chip from one key or ordering a cloned chip. “Smart” immobilizer bypass, implemented in modern StarLine systems, is not available in the E91.
To correctly “fall asleep” of the car after autostart is completed, the manufacturer suggests using an analog simulation of opening and closing the driver’s door. By default, additional channel No. 3 is designed for this, but the installer selects any other option.
In addition to forced start from the key fob, StarLine E91 allows you to program autostart based on a timer and engine temperature. Settings for intervals and temperatures are made from the main alarm key fob; changing settings through the service menu of the central unit is only necessary to indicate the standard engine warm-up time.

Characteristics of the Starline E91 alarm system: how to install it and use it correctly?
If there is no compliance, the user will have to reprogram the engine control unit themselves. If the signal in the area is unstable or there is interference, this will reduce the range of the communicator. In addition, such a problem will cause increased current consumption by the security system. How to set up autostart using a phone application
The ability to perform autostart from a smartphone is a current option, since the car owner can start the vehicle’s engine from almost any distance, which cannot be said about the key fob, which has restrictions. To successfully launch from a smartphone application, it is necessary that the security system has a GPS module, where a SIM card of any mobile operator is placed. Thus, the interaction between the module and the smartphone occurs at the level of dialogue between two subscribers. Autostart will be possible:
- by calling the module's SIM card;
- SMS message;
- using an application for Android, iOS.
You can download the Starline application for free using any software installation wizard. As a result, the car owner will have access to almost all functions of the security system and module through the convenient interface of the application installed on the mobile device.
StarLine E91: operating and installation instructions
However, the capabilities of the Starline E91 are sufficient for comfortable use in the city, with the exception of crowded parking lots near shopping centers in big cities.
There is the possibility of telematic control when installing an additional StarLine GSM beacon in the central unit or an external GSM beacon, for which a special connector is provided.
The alarm system offers the following methods of blocking the start:
External blocking relay included in delivery. Programmable as either normally closed or normally open. Radio relay StarLine R2 (not included).
The built-in CAN module does not require triggering via the CAN bus.
Thus, the start blocking methods included in the delivery set are primitive, and when the car is physically opened, the level of security of the system cannot be called satisfactory: an acceptable level of protection will require, at a minimum, the purchase of a radio relay.
E91 has the ability to control: doors, hood.

Basic settings of the E90 key fob
To enter the basic settings menu, you need to press and hold button 4 for a long time. The key fob will first emit one long and then two short beeps. A prompt to select a function will appear on the screen; buttons 1 and 4 are used to select an option:
- F-1: Set date and time
- F-2: Alarm setting
- F-3: Countdown timer setting
- F-4: Alarm volume setting and ringtone selection
The desired option is selected by long pressing button 4.
When setting the time and date on the key fob, buttons 1 and 4 are also used to select a parameter; the readings are increased or decreased by buttons 2-3.
When setting the alarm, you can choose to turn it on or off, once or periodically, and set the date and time of the alarm.
The countdown timer can be turned on/off and set the countdown interval.
The sound signal has three levels: loud (RUDE), quiet (WEAK), only vibration alert (VIBR). There are two signal tones: siren (SIG1) or trill (SIG2).

PIN code programming
Setting a key fob PIN code for emergency alarm deactivation is necessary, as it seriously increases the security of the system. In Starline E90, this code can consist of 1,2 or 3 digits from 1 to 6, that is, a total of 258 different options are available.
The factory default value of the pin code is 3, which is also set after resetting to factory settings. It is impossible to erase the PIN code separately on the E90.
To set a PIN code, you must first set its length in the alarm settings (see below), then with the ignition on, press the Valet service button four times. Then turn on the ignition and enter the first digit of the code:
Code digit | Buttons |
1 | 1 |
2 | 2 |
3 | 3 |
4 | 1 long, then short |
5 | 2 long, then short |
6 | 3 long, then short |
If you selected a two- or three-digit PIN code in the settings, repeat these steps for subsequent digits.
