This is why it is important to keep your windshield wipers (the official name for windshield wipers) intact. This material describes the scheme by which the wipers work in a VAZ 2110 car, the main malfunctions, as well as windshield wiper repair.
Important! The way the washer works is quite simple: an electric motor is installed under the hood, to which a trapezoid is attached; two windshield wipers are attached to it - this is one part of the unit. The second part is a tank with technical fluid, which reaches the windshield wiper using a pump. The electronics are located under the dashboard of the VAZ 2110.

Wipers do not work on VAZ 2110: causes and solution to the problem
In practice, repairing wipers on a VAZ 2110 is not at all difficult if you have at least basic experience in working with a car and its electrical components.
Unscrew the fixing nut
First, let's figure out how to remove the wipers on a VAZ 2110. The design provides several fasteners, by unscrewing which you can easily remove the wipers themselves.
But with disassembling the windshield wiper assembly, everything is a little more complicated. It is analyzed as follows.
- Remove the dashboard.
- On the left side, find the relay that is attached to the body. If it is broken, there is no point in repairing it. Just install a new relay.
- Next, check the condition of the fuse that controls the operation of the windshield wiper drive.
- Disassemble the steering column to allow you to examine the state of the switch. If the insulation is damaged or there is other damage, replace the unit.
- Unscrew the electric motor from the body and check it in action. If the damage is not serious, it can be repaired. It's better to immediately replace it along with the relay.
- Check the drive. It is not uncommon for a pulley to break on it, which is why the device has to be replaced with a new one.
- Make sure the trapezoid is in good condition. It may be necessary to replace the windshield wiper trapezium on a VAZ 2110 if, during operation of the car, the lubrication of the device has deteriorated and all kinds of debris and water have gotten in there. If the lubrication does not work properly, the plastic bushings of the hinges wear out, causing play and increasing resistance during operation of the device. The trapezoid itself serves to transmit force from the electric motor to the windshield wiper arms.
Most car owners of the domestic “ten” are accustomed to replacing worn out and faulty windshield wipers with similar ones.
Often this happens because they do not see alternatives and are not familiar with them.
For all VAZ 2110 models, regardless of the year of manufacture, it is possible to install windshield wipers for the driver and passenger sides of the same size - 20 inches. The length of the brush is 508 millimeters.
But this size can be increased to 530 millimeters. It is not recommended to install more, since this way the windshield wiper will not be able to work effectively, and the drive simply will not cope with the load. As a result, too long brushes cause squeaking and jerky work. Plus, don’t count on a long service life of the wiper mechanisms.
The original windshield wipers for the 10 are quite good. But there are more expensive, but also more highly efficient, high-quality devices.
Today it is fashionable to use frameless wipers, especially from Bosch. Their advantages lie in their compactness and a special, reliable leash mechanism.
But as practice shows, on the windshield of the VAZ 2110, as well as other VAZ models, they do not look very nice, because the fasteners on the leash turn out to be massive. Although if you modify them a little, you will get a very good result.
To repair the unit you will need the following materials and tools:
- set of sockets and keys;
- screwdrivers;
- WD-40 liquid;
- old rags;
- trapezoid repair kit in case of need for replacement or windshield wiper repair kit for VAZ 2110;
- other parts requiring replacement.
To repair the windshield wiper, you need to disassemble it:
- First you need to remove the instrument panel.
- Next, you should find the VAZ 2110 wiper relay, which is screwed to the body. If it doesn't work, it needs to be replaced.
- It is advisable to remove the frill so that it does not interfere with disassembling the unit.
- Now you need to check the fuse that is responsible for the operation of the VAZ 2110 wiper drive.
The next step is to disassemble the steering column to check the switch. If it has significant damage, it needs to be replaced (the author of the video is “In Sandro’s Garage”).
- Next, you need to dismantle the motor and check it. If replacement is necessary, replace the windshield wiper motor and gear motor assembly.
- If the windshield washer reservoir or pump is damaged, it must be replaced.
- Be sure to check the size and condition of the brushes: they must meet the standards specified in the manual. Their length is important as they must cover the entire surface of the windshield.
When choosing glass cleaners, you need to pay attention to the size, device and manufacturer. Wipers for the VAZ 2110, regardless of the year of manufacture of the car, must have a size of 508 mm. You can buy up to 53 cm in length, but no more.
If the length is too long, they will not be able to wash the windshield. In addition, the VAZ 2110 washer motor may not be able to cope with such a load. Brushes that are too large will squeak and jerk during operation.
An indispensable attribute of the VAZ 2110, like any other car, is windshield wipers. Their colloquial name is “windshield wipers”. Their purpose is to clean the glass from water stains and dirt in case of bad weather. Of course, the work of wipers is most often necessary in the off-season, when there is the most rainfall. During these periods, without properly functioning windshield wipers, driving a car is not only difficult, but dangerous.
Like any other important component of the VAZ 2110, the wipers need regular inspection and, if necessary, repair. This usually happens once every five years. But you may have to start repairing your windshield wipers earlier - if they start working slowly or don’t work at all.
Repairing windshield wipers is not difficult; any self-respecting car enthusiast is quite capable of doing it himself. Below we will look at algorithms for repairing wipers on a VAZ 2110, and even how to completely replace them correctly.
Greetings. VAZ2110, today the wipers stopped working. The washer splashes, but the wipers do not move (The relay clicks, the fuses are intact. What could be the reason?
If one fine morning the wipers on a VAZ 2110 fail to work, the causes of this malfunction should be established. To do this, you need to get to the windshield wiper device.
- Intermittent;
- Constantly fast, in case of heavy rain;
- Constantly slow.
Owners of the VAZ Ten probably encounter noise and crackling noise when they turn on the wipers; this is often due to a malfunction of the electric motor.
Wipers are one of the most vulnerable systems in a car. The windshield wiper system has to work, for example, in severe frosts. In this case, you should check whether the blades freeze to the windshield, otherwise the electric motor may burn out.
If the electric motor of the engine does not show signs of life, the problem may lie not in it, but, for example, in the blown fuse F5 in the mounting block. It is located on the left side of the car, under the headlight control. If the fuse turns out to be fully operational, the problem lies in the power supply to the wiper motor.
It is necessary to check the electrical circuit that connects the gear motor, fuse, steering column lever and the switch itself. A multimeter will help determine which part of this circuit there is a malfunction. If the monitor shows “zero”, the area is working properly. You see an infinitely large series of numbers on the screen - this is a reason to check all the terminals and wires.
- Clean and crimp the terminals in each block;
- Completely change all wires;
- Change the wiper switch lever.
In the first two positions, the K2 relay type 524.3747 in the mounting block and the steering column switch itself are responsible for the intermittent operation of the wipers. If the wipers work properly in the third position, you should pay attention to the relay. If the relay is faulty, the wipers can operate in intermittent modes without complaints, but there will be no characteristic pauses when switching.
If the wipers switch without pauses, then the limit switch is failing you; it is located on the cover of the gear motor.
- Clean up oxidation;
- Remove traces of burning if they are present on the contacts;
- Bend the contact tabs if necessary.
Folding the contacts will help if the wiper blades are slow, stop where they want to be, or don't reach the lowest position. If this solution does not help at all, you will have to change the entire gearmotor.

Without wipers, it is almost impossible to overcome rain or snow, as visibility is reduced to a minimum.
Mechanical faults
Every owner of the tenth model probably noticed clicks and noise coming from the gearmotor located on the left when activating the windshield wiper system. Therefore, at the initial stage of solving the question of why the wipers do not work on the VAZ 2110, you should pay attention specifically to the nature of the operation of this unit.
The electric motor does not show any signs of operability - it is necessary to inspect fuse F5 in the mounting block located on the left under the headlight beam hydraulic corrector. A serviceable fuse primarily serves as an indicator of problems in the electric drive feeding system.
A multimeter will help you identify the faulty area: you need to “ring” the circuit in resistance mode from the fuse to the gearmotor and steering column lever, and even the switch itself. The multimeter induces zero: the section is serviceable, an infinitely large value is a reason to inspect the terminals and wires.
The malfunction is resolved by the following steps:
- clean/crimp the terminals in the fuse block, contact connectors of the steering column switch and gearmotor;
- replace wires;
- replace the lever on the steering column that activates the windshield wipers.
Relay K2 type 524.3747, located in the mounting block, is responsible for the operation of the windshield wipers in cycles with pauses (I and II positions). The system does not operate in intermittent mode - a reason for a detailed inspection and replacement of the relay. Under such circumstances, the steering column switch should also be “sinned”.
Something to keep in mind! If the relay is defective, the windshield wipers operate completely unprecedentedly in the third extreme position of the right steering column switch.
However, a faulty relay does not always stop the operation of the unit in intermittent mode. Windshield wipers can effectively perform their function in positions I and II, however, the presence of a defect in the relay will be indicated by the absence of pauses between sweeps of the brushes, characteristic of these modes.
Along the way, finding out other reasons why the wipers on the VAZ 2110 do not work intermittently with pauses, you should inspect the limit switch located on the gear motor cover:
- the oxidized layer should be removed;
- burnt contacts must be cleaned;
- Contact petals should be bent if necessary.
A non-working electric motor, absence of a click and conditional fuse F5 - a combination of these circumstances may well indicate serious malfunctions in the gearmotor, which are often eliminated by replacing the assembly:
- stuck brushes that provide electrical connection between the rotor and stator circuits;
- dirty collector located on the electric motor rotor;
- burnt collector;
- break in the armature winding.
The second scenario is no less critical: the electric motor does not turn on, and either a click is heard or fuse F5 fails.
Attention! In this case, the steering column switch should be immediately returned to the basic zero position.
In the worst case scenario, these signals indicate a short circuit in the motor winding and the need to replace the gearmotor assembly. Often, such symptoms confirm the presence of trivial faults: frozen blades or windshield wipers touching body parts.
mechanics Often the wipers on a VAZ 2110 car do not work due to a banal loosening of the nut that presses the brush holder to the trapezoid shaft. You can restore the system's functionality instantly by adjusting the angle of the brush and tightening the lever with a nut.
An unscrewed nut that facilitates the transmission of torque from the gearbox to the trapezoid can be reported by one of two events:
- the electric motor remains operational in all modes, but both brushes do not move;
- the brushes spontaneously stop working in an intermediate position.
However, stopping of the brush holders in an arbitrary position can occur due to poor pressing of the “limit switch” contacts to the gear motor gear or oxidation/burning of the same contacts. And the brushes are not able to move even after chipping the teeth of the gears, which do not have a long service life - after all, they are made of plastic.
It includes:
- The electric motor of the windshield wiper itself;
- Windshield washer motor;
- The windshield wiper and washer switch is located under the steering wheel of the VAZ 2110;
- The main and additional relays are located in the mounting block and provide cyclic operation of the wipers;
- Bimetallic fuse is thermal in type; its limit switch is located in the gearbox of the windshield wiper motor.
- The brushes themselves - their working part is made of rubber and is subject to fairly rapid wear;
- A trapezoid is a structure made of metal guides; they ensure the conversion of the rotation of the electric motor into the actual operation of the wipers. The trapezoid is subject to deformation and clogging of the joints.
Accordingly, from the structure of the windshield wiper assembly, it follows that all breakdowns belong to two groups:
- If, after turning on the wipers, their electric motor is clearly working, but the wipers themselves do not move or twitch convulsively, then the reason for this is the loosening of the nut securing the trapezoid crank of the wipers to the axis of the electric motor gearbox. Sometimes this nut does not just loosen, but is completely twisted.
- The wipers work, but the synchronization and smoothness of their movements are disrupted. In this case, the cause of the breakdown is the so-called “leash”. The nut holding it in place loosens.
Both of the considered breakdowns can be corrected by simply tightening the nut securing the wiper units. Of course, before this you need to put the wipers themselves (their mechanical part) in the correct starting position.
- The electric motor does not work completely. After turning on the wipers, you can’t hear them working and the wipers themselves remain motionless. The cause of this breakdown will most likely be stuck motor brushes - then they need to be returned to the correct position. Less often, the armature burns out - in this case, you will have to completely replace both the electric motor and the gearbox (they are sold only as a set).
- You can't hear the electric motor running. The wipers also don't move. After they are turned on, only the click of the bimetallic fuse is heard. The reason for this in winter is almost always freezing of the electric motor brushes. Often after this, when persistently trying to turn on the wipers, the bimetallic fuse or, less often, the electric motor armature itself blows. This problem can be easily solved by simply thawing the brushes and removing moisture from them. In more serious cases, you need to replace it with a new fuse or the electric motor itself.
- The wipers work, but in intermittent mode they continue to run continuously. At the same time, there are no sounds of alternating rotation of the electric motor armature. This problem is usually solved by simply replacing the control relay. But before doing this, you just need to check and re-clean the contacts of the limit switch - they sometimes oxidize or burn.
- The work of the wipers is carried out slowly and with stops in unpredictable places of the working stroke. The windshield wipers do not occupy the lower position at all. In this case, the cause is most often the limit switch - you need to adjust it by bending the contacts. If incorrect operation continues, the electric motor will have to be completely replaced.
All work on servicing VAZ 2110 windshield wipers begins with disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery. After this, the frill is disconnected. It is advisable to do this, since all subsequent operations are significantly speeded up.
Next, unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the entire structure of the wipers by moving them towards you. Their installation is carried out in reverse order.
Replacing wipers
When repairing an electrical component, you must first remove the dashboard to gain access and possibly replace the relay or fuse. After this, you can disassemble the steering column - the switch is located here. It also often needs to be replaced (for example, due to damaged insulation).
Often it is necessary to completely replace the wipers. Here you need to remember the following - wipers for all years of production of the VAZ 2110 are identical and interchangeable. If any other wipers are used (for example, foreign-made), then you need to make sure that their sizes match. The length of the VAZ 2110 wipers is exactly 20 inches (50.8 cm).
Wiring
It is easy to modify or replace wipers. To do this you need to take several sequential steps:
- Disconnect the negative cable from the battery;
- Pull the wiper towards you;
- Remove the existing brushes;
- If there is a decorative trim, remove it;
- Unscrew the mounting bolt, thereby removing the old wiper;
- Compare the dimensions of the old and new cleaner;
- Ideally, the new device should not exceed the old one by more than 20 millimeters;
- Reverse the assembly procedure.
As you can see, changing windshield wipers is not difficult. But with the repair procedure, everything is somewhat different. But following the instructions, even an inexperienced VAZ 2110 owner will be able to do everything with his own hands.

The causes of windshield wiper malfunction can be either mechanical or electrical. We start troubleshooting first with the fuse, and then we disassemble the rest.
Mechanical problems may include the following symptoms:
- When the windshield wiper is turned on, you can hear the wiper motor running, but the blades do not move. This may primarily be caused by a loose or loose nut that secures the crank to the gearbox axle.
- If the brushes do not work synchronously, the reason may be the driver - its fastening nut has become loose.

Electrical faults have the following symptoms:
- The brushes do not occupy an extreme position, they stop anywhere and move slowly. The cause may be the ring switch. In this case, you need to bend the contacts. If this does not help, you need to replace the wiper motor assembly, as it is sold with a gearbox.
- The intermittent mode is turned on, and the brushes work continuously, then the problem is in the relay, it needs to be replaced. If the replacement does not help, then it is likely that the contacts on the limit switch have oxidized or burnt.
- If, when you turn on the windshield wiper, the windshield wipers and armature do not work, then the blades may have frozen. Another reason could be a burnt anchor.
- The electric motor does not work, but the fuses are good. In this case, it is necessary to check the contacts that the wiper drive has, as well as the motor. It is possible that the VAZ windshield wiper blades are stuck or the armature is burnt out.
Checking the operation of the windshield washer
Device and possible malfunctions
To understand the operation of the wipers, you will need an electrical diagram, which is present in the VAZ 2110 operation and maintenance manual. You also need to know what the unit consists of:
- The trapezoid is the main part through which the motor transmits movement; the trapezoid most often wears out, and as a result, repairs are needed.
- Electric motor - due to this unit, the wipers move; the motor can burn out, which will cause the failure of the entire unit.
- Pump - this element is needed to pump cleaning fluid into the wipers. If the pump breaks, then you can forget about keeping the front window clean, although the wipers will still run across the window.
- Tank - everything is obvious here, it stores window cleaning fluid.
- Windshield wiper – mounted on a trapezoid, performs a cleaning function. First of all, you need to pay attention to the size of the windshield wiper.

Repair
To repair this unit, you need a minimum of tools:
- Set of keys and sockets.
- Screwdriver Set.
- WD-40.
- Rags.
- Replacement parts.
It is quite easy to determine which parts are not working. For example, if the wipers do not move, then the motor has failed. If the trapezoid moves, but the glass remains dirty, then the pump or tank is damaged. The size will help you understand what condition the part is in - if the size has decreased too much, then the element needs to be changed. In any case, you need to make sure of the speculations; for this you should analyze:
- The first step is to dismantle the car's dashboard;
- Next you need to find the relay related to this mechanism. It is screwed to the body of the VAZ 2110. If the electrical elements do not work, then the relay needs to be changed; repairs will not help;
Wiring diagram and troubleshooting
Electrical wiring plays one of the important roles in a car. The correct operation of the main devices and systems, as well as the vehicle as a whole, depends on it. Today we will look at the electrical wiring diagrams of the VAZ-2110 family.
Electrical wiring for the VAZ-2110 is of two types: carburetor and injector . There are slight differences, but the basic principles of operation and wiring are the same. Depending on the location, the wiring differs into: under the hood and in the cabin . All electrical equipment of the car is connected using wires of a certain color. Each element has its own wiring harness through the blocks and fuses.
The on-board voltage is 12V constant, minus on the car body.
Having a wiring diagram and knowing the operating principles of the main components of the car is not at all difficult to find the malfunction and the cause of its occurrence.
Before starting to repair the vehicle's electrical wiring (if this is not related to troubleshooting), the terminals should be removed from the battery.
Electrical diagram of a carburetor ignition system
At the first releases of the VAZ-2110, a carburetor was installed, which was later replaced by an injector, as a more modern and reliable system that ensures economical stable operation of the engine. The wiring of an engine with a carburetor includes almost the same vehicle life support systems as with an injector.

Notes:
1.
In the instrument panel wiring harness, the second ends of the white, black, orange, white with red stripe and yellow with blue stripe wires are connected to each other at the same points.
2.
The bends of the wires at the points of entry into the harness indicate the direction of their laying in the harness.
Electrical diagram of a contactless car ignition system
The carburetor is already an obsolete car part. It is less reliable and cannot provide such an accurate supply of the fuel mixture. In later releases, the carburetor ignition system was replaced with an injection system. The controller in this system “reads” the operation of all systems, thereby determining and setting many indicators - calculation of the fuel mixture, etc.
Windshield wiper repair
To repair the unit you will need the following materials and tools:
- set of sockets and keys;
- screwdrivers;
- WD-40 liquid;
- old rags;
- trapezoid repair kit in case of need for replacement or windshield wiper repair kit for VAZ 2110;
