Welcome! The throttle valve becomes dirty over time, due to this it begins to open and close worse, and uneven idling also appears, because the layer of dust that is present on the valve does not allow air to properly enter the car engine, and this is especially noticeable when the foot is the gas pedal is removed, just when the foot is removed from the pedal, the throttle is almost completely closed, but there is a small gap through which air enters the engine, and if there is a lot of dirt and dust in this place, then the air will not normally enter the engine, so it is idle the progress will be uneven.
Note! To replace this part, you will need to stock up on: A set of all the keys that you have, and in this set there must be an extension cord, or a wrench with socket heads, in addition to this, you will need a carburetor cleaner, which you can find in a car shop, and a rag, which You will remove all the dirt from the damper and by the way, stock up on all the screwdrivers you have!
Where is the throttle valve located? Before continuing to write, we will point out to you one very important nuance, the throttle valve is the wrong name for the unit that you are currently thinking about, its correct name is the throttle assembly (Indicated by a red arrow), but the valve itself is already inside this unit and plays a very large role in it, opening and closing at the moment when you need it.
When should you clean your throttle body? It doesn’t get clogged up very quickly, so it needs to be cleaned quite rarely, but it depends on how you drive and on what roads, for example, if the car is driven every day on a dirt road where there is a lot of dust, then the damper will quickly become dusty and dirty and will require cleaning, but if the car is used mainly in the urban cycle or, even better, in the countryside (in towns, etc.) on roads, then in this case the damper will need to be cleaned less often, so there are no exact figures as such when it needs to be cleaned , as they say, everything is determined by appearance and by symptoms (the car idles unstably, its speed fluctuates, it even stalls sometimes, etc., these are the symptoms of a dirty damper, but although they are due to other problems may also meet).
Note! In order for your damper to become dirty less often, we recommend changing the air filter on your car as often as possible or simply replacing it when it really requires it, and especially do not delay replacing it when it requires it (It will be covered in dust in this case and this dust will fly into the engine and the throttle valve, on top of all this it will pollute)!
Cleaning the throttle valve of VAZ 2114-2115. How to clean the damper on the “fourteenth” with your own hands?
Hi all. This is VAZ Repair, and today in the “Repair 2114” section you will learn how to clean the valve, throttle valve with your own hands , naturally.
The work is not dusty and does not require special skills and knowledge. Moreover, we have already talked about this on our website; last time the throttle valve was cleaned on the “ten”. It’s worth noting right away that there are no fundamental differences in performing this work on different VAZ models, the principle is the same - remove the throttle assembly, take a special liquid and spray it on the valve. In rare cases, you have to make more effort and rub the throttle with cotton swabs or even a toothbrush.
As always, before we begin, a few words about what a throttle valve is, why it gets dirty and how to understand that the throttle valve needs to be cleaned . Go.
Diagnostics and cleaning of IAC
Be sure to check its condition - there should be no dirt on it. Remove the regulator and connect it to the wiring block (the ignition must be on). The rod should retract completely and extend a few millimeters. Visually assess the condition of the device to see if there is any damage to it. Very often, the cause of unstable speed is a weakened or burst spring. In this case, it will need to be replaced. Cleaning the throttle valve on a VAZ-2114, done by yourself, still won’t hurt.
Use a multimeter to measure between contacts 1 and 2 - the resistance should be in the range of 50-80 ohms. If it is slightly different, there is no need to panic. There should be no resistance between the other contacts. To clean the device, you need to use a penetrating lubricant (spray for cleaning carburetors is not suitable, as it melts the plastic). Be sure to treat the contacts - if they are oxidized, voltage will not be supplied. Using a ruler or caliper, measure the distance from the IAC body to the end of the needle - it should be 23 mm, deviations are not allowed.
What is a throttle valve?
The throttle valve (VV) is an integral part of the fuel system of a gasoline engine. The main task of the DZ is the dosage of air supply, which enters the cylinders to form a combustible mixture. The throttle body is located after the air filter and before the intake manifold. Simply put, the air valve is an air valve that regulates the air supply. When the throttle valve opens, excess pressure in the intake system disappears; when it closes, negative pressure forms in the system. Every time you press the gas pedal, the throttle opens or closes, since the throttle valve is connected to the throttle cable.
When is it necessary to clean the throttle valve?
It is recommended to clean the remote control every 60-70 thousand km. mileage or if signs of throttle contamination appear.
Signs of a dirty throttle body and the need to clean the throttle body:
- Poor engine starting, stalls while driving;
- Increased crankshaft speed;
- Floating idle speed;
- Jerking while driving at low and medium speeds.
Causes of throttle valve contamination:
- Air. Although it is filtered by an air filter, it still contains dust.
- Oiling and crankcase gases. These two substances form an oily coating on the throttle body, preventing the normal operation of the throttle assembly. The damper begins to open and close poorly (poor response to the gas pedal).
Where is the DZ located?
Engine compartment
The entire throttle body is located in the engine compartment. It is located between the intake manifold and the air filter. In other words, the air enters the filter, passes through the mass air flow sensor, enters the remote control, and from there goes to the engine through the intake manifold (receiver). To find out where the remote control is located, pay attention to the figure (number 3).
How to flush the throttle valve of a VAZ 2114-2115
There are two types of cleaning - with and without removal. The first method involves doing the following:
1. Disconnect the air filter bellows, remove the coolant pipes, as well as the adsorber pipe. The coolant pipes must be bolted or bent and clamped to prevent coolant from spilling out.
2. Next, you need to disconnect the throttle control mount, remove the throttle cable and remove the throttle assembly.
3. After the throttle is removed, it is necessary to remove the sensors (IAC, TPS) and clean them.
4. Next, using WD-40 or a special liquid for cleaning the carburetor (for example ABRO), we clean the rear brake. This is done simply, you need to apply the composition to the valve, as well as the inner surface of the throttle and let the special tool do its job. After a few minutes everything will be clean, but if the result does not satisfy you, clean again, using cotton swabs or a toothbrush.
Attention! Never use sharp metal objects!
5. Let the remote control dry, after which everything is assembled in the reverse order.
The second method involves disconnecting the air corrugation and cleaning the throttle valve right on the spot. The principle is the same: the solution is sprayed on one side and the other of the remote control (to do this, you can turn the damper by hand at the place where the cable is attached). I have not tried the second method, because in my opinion, it does not make it possible to fully clean the throttle valve, so I cannot advise this method or talk about the results of such cleaning.
When flushing the throttle valve, I recommend replacing the throttle valve gasket. Basically everything. You can finish the article on how to clean the throttle valve of a VAZ 2114. I think the knowledge gained will be enough for you to repeat all the above steps yourself.
Cleaning the throttle valve on VAZ 2113, VAZ 2114, VAZ 2115
Work on adjusting TPS
If, when the damper is open, it is not possible to turn the device drive or pull the accelerator cable, it means that the TPS is installed incorrectly. In this case, it is necessary to remove the sensor and mount it again at a right angle to the damper axis, which can also be adjusted manually. In this case, the sensor is not adjustable. Very often the controller stores old data in memory, which results in the valve opening to some extent. Then you will need to remove the battery terminal for a while, or reset the controller settings using the on-board computer. If after this the valve opening angle is at least one degree, this means that the TPS is subject to repair.
How to clean the throttle valve on a VAZ 2113-VAZ 2115?
1. First, of course, you will need to remove it, about how to do this operation correctly, read the article that is posted on our website, entitled: “Replacing the throttle assembly on a VAZ”, as soon as the damper, or let’s say the throttle assembly correctly, is removed , start cleaning it, to do this, place it on a flat and clean surface and then take the carburetor cleaning fluid in your hands and with its help, go through the entire throttle assembly, but don’t look at the sensors and in general it’s best to unscrew them for you we recommend.
2. When the inside of the assembly is cleaned (By the way, clean with liquid exactly in the place where the throttle valve itself is located, outside the assembly, that is, on its outer part, we do not recommend that you clean it), wipe off any drops and then place the assembly in the sun or just bring it into a warm room, wait for it to dry completely and you can put it back on the car. If you want to clean it better, you can also blow it out with compressed air (Compressed air is in the compressor, in the pump, so something from this find and then use it to blow the throttle assembly from all dirt particles in hard-to-reach places).
Additional video clip: You can see the process of cleaning the throttle assembly in more detail in the video clip located just below, it not only shows everything but also describes it all, by the way, the video uses a VAZ 2112 car, you don’t pay much attention to this Please note, because the throttle units on all cars are cleaned almost identically, but this does not apply to the unit with the e-gas system, where the whole cleaning process occurs completely differently.
Correction of a factory miscalculation
It is quite common for a throttle assembly to come out of the factory with something that cannot even be called a defect, but can still be attributed to design errors. In theory, air should flow into the space behind the throttle, for which a channel of approximately 2.5 mm is specially made.
But the whole problem is that this channel was pressed against the wall of the receiver, thus blocking the possibility of air flow. A slight modification of the throttle assembly can help in this case.
Bored channel for air flow in the throttle
To do this, just take a file and use it to make a small groove in the indicated place. 2 - 3 mm will be enough. But before doing this, it is necessary to remove the throttle.
What are the signs of a dirty throttle body?
Washing and cleaning both the throttle valve and the entire assembly is not a difficult task. But nevertheless, many car owners do not know how to clean correctly, why to clean and when to clean, and having only a little experience in car maintenance, they are afraid to climb under the hood and do anything with their own hands.
In this article we will analyze the entire procedure for flushing the throttle assembly, and I hope that the typical car owner will no longer have all the questions about performing this operation.
Signs of a dirty throttle body
The most common symptoms associated with a dirty damper:
- poor or unstable engine starting “every time”;
- unstable idling, speed fluctuates;
- when driving at low speeds, the car twitches;
- Difficulties at idle, engine stalls at idle.
All of these signs indicate a dirty throttle body. But don’t rush to draw conclusions and rush to clean the unit, because... the same signs may indicate a malfunction of some sensors: IAC, TPS - these sensors are located on the throttle assembly and may be faulty. In particular, high-quality flushing of the throttle assembly can cure these sensors, but not a fact (by following the link, you can check, clean, replace the IAC, check the TPS, repair and replace it). Also, a faulty mass air flow sensor has similar symptoms. It is advisable to clean the throttle assembly at intervals of 30 thousand km.
Flushing the throttle valve
In this article we will describe two types of throttle valve cleaning:
These two types differ in the degree of difficulty of cleaning and, accordingly, in quality.
Superficial cleaning
The essence of this cleaning is that we will not completely disassemble the entire throttle assembly, but will go over the valve with a cloth and remove surface dirt.
For work we will need:
- Any cleaning agent: carburetor cleaner, alcohol, thinner, gasoline, wd-40. They differ only in the degree of “removability” of dirt and that’s all.
- Rag.
- Brush.
First of all, we remove the air filter bell from the throttle valve, take our cleaning agent and spray it inside the throttle valve. We begin to clean the surface with a rag and brush. Also, do not forget to open the damper itself and clean it from the back side. This completes our process; we reinstall the air filter pipe and that’s it. But with this cleaning method, we will not be able to completely clean all the insides of the throttle valve, we will not be able to blow through all the holes and channels, so it is better to use a complete cleaning.
Complete throttle body cleaning
To completely clean the damper, in addition to a rag and cleaning agent, we will need:
- Flathead, Phillips screwdriver.
- Throttle valve gasket (for 1.5L) and receiver O-ring (for 1.6L) (approximate cost 20-50 rubles).
- Cotton buds.
- Socket wrench set to "13".
- 2 M13 bolts.
In this case, we need to completely remove the throttle assembly and clean it from all sides.
- In order to remove the unit, disconnect the air filter corrugation and remove the ohm pipes. liquid (in the Murzilka it is recommended to drain the liquid before starting work, but do not waste time on this by removing the pipes from the throttle - just plug them with bolts so that the liquid does not spill out), remove the adsorber pipe.
- Disconnect the throttle assembly mount, remove the throttle cable, and remove the throttle assembly. If you require a more detailed description of removing the throttle assembly, then read the article: How to remove the throttle assembly, valve?
- Having removed the throttle valve, we disconnect and clean the IAC sensors (how to clean IAC), TPS and completely wash the damper on all sides with a cleaner, be sure to blow out all the holes with compressed air.
- Then we install everything back, not forgetting to put in a new gasket.

Hello. Last year we cleaned the throttle in the workshop. The ignition was late. In my opinion it was very dirty. I would like to know how often I need to clean it. Is there a procedure for changing the oil? Perhaps we should proceed from how quickly it gets polluted there? To find out, you probably need to open everything there? I'm going to change the oil. The mechanics told me that the condition of the engine would then be clear from the oil. Have I heard that you can also judge an engine by its cleanliness?
Hello, why turn on the ignition when you remove the stamp on the battery?
What engine, 1.5 or 1.6? The thing is that I found a description on the internet on how to clean the remote control, but the author writes that after cleaning it is necessary to change the remote control gasket for 1.5 or the receiver O-ring for 1.6, but I couldn’t find what this ring looks like anywhere
I’m interested in the real time from start to finish that the author spent on all the work just on “cleaning the throttle assembly”! PS I just changed the screen on the fuel pump yesterday, I won’t write how... the time I spent was clearly not 40 minutes... 6 hours
If we take into account only cleaning the throttle, then it takes 15 minutes to remove it, 15 minutes to put it back. Well, the cleaning time itself ranges from 20 minutes to an hour (depending on the contamination).
I found something else, but I didn’t try to do it myself, I limited myself to just cleaning the remote control.#
Can you guys give me some advice? I found a small hole in my exhaust hose (going from the bottom to the lid), so can air leak through this hole or not? And how will this affect the car in general?
Great report. I'll do the same at my place on the weekend. I haven’t climbed there at all for 5 years.
Signs of damper contamination
The car itself may tell you that it’s time to start cleaning the damper. To do this, you need to listen to the engine. A few main signs:
- when the e-gas pedal is released, the engine speed decreases jerkily;
- difficulty starting in winter;
- When starting, a strong smell of gasoline may be felt in the garage;
- at the beginning of operation, the engine stalls, since not all cylinders start at the same time;
- the car jerks during acceleration;
- it is impossible to brake with the engine and coast;
- when switching to low speeds, the car may stall;
- When driving at low speeds, shocks are felt.
The appearance of these symptoms is due to the fact that insufficient air enters the engine and the fuel mixture becomes poorly enriched. Due to the design features, combustion product residues accumulate on the damper - unprocessed fuel, soot, drops of oil. Dust and small particles of sand are added to them from the air supply system, which makes the mass very thick. The intervals between preventive cleanings are shortened by poor quality fuel and engine oil.
When the layer of dirt becomes thicker, the damper cannot move smoothly, and its opening angle becomes smaller. Because of this, the amount of air entering the cylinders is reduced and engine power is reduced.
