Thanks to the increase in height of the cylinder block (2.3 mm), it was possible to increase the piston stroke and engine volume to 1.6 liters. The designers have achieved greater throttle response and improved environmental performance of the VAZ 2114 engine.

The car received an increase in power (81 hp and 125 Nm of torque), but lost in efficiency. Now the consumption of AI 95 in the combined cycle is 7.6 l/100 km.

The logical development of the Kalina engine was a sixteen-valve engine. VAZ 2114, equipped with a 124 engine, meets Euro-3 environmental requirements.

The piston stroke and cylinder diameter remained the same. Thanks to minor modifications, at 5 thousand rpm the engine develops maximum power of 89 hp. With. Consumption in the combined cycle was reduced to 7.5 liters. per hundred.

ICE 21126, also known as the Priora engine, received a number of significant improvements:

  • Federal Mogul lightweight connecting rod and piston group (39%);
  • smaller valve wells;
  • modified timing drive with automatic tension;
  • better cylinder honing;

Thanks to these changes, the engine received an increase of 9 liters. With. and a peak torque of 145 Nm. In the combined cycle, the “four” with a 126 engine consumes 7.2/100 km.

Engine malfunctions and repairs 2114 / 2111


The VAZ 2111 engine, or as people call the 2114 engine, is essentially the same eighty-third, the main differences between the 2114 and 21083 engine are the use of an injector instead of a carburetor, a floating connecting rod pin and a slightly different camshaft, it is also 6 horsepower more powerful. Accordingly, on the basis of this engine, all modern Lada engines were developed, such as 2112, 124, 126 (Priora motor), 127, 114, 116, 119 (Kalina motors). The 1.6 liter was replaced. 8V engine VAZ 21114. Engine VAZ 2114 1.5 l. injection in-line 4-cylinder with overhead camshaft, timing belt driven. Engine number 2114 is stamped on the block under the thermostat. The service life of the VAZ 2114 engine, according to the manufacturer’s data, is 150 thousand km; in practice, the engines run more than 200 thousand km, with normal maintenance. For example, changing the oil in the 2114 engine should be done on a warm engine, at least once every 10-15 thousand km. If signs of a malfunction appear, the “check engine VAZ 2114” lamp is on, you should not start it and immediately go for diagnostics or look for the cause yourself. A special feature of the 2114 engine is that when the timing belt breaks, the valve does not bend. The engine is not without its shortcomings, valve adjustment is still required, parts of the cooling system wear out, the oil filter constantly needs to be changed, oil leaks through the valve cover seal, fuel pump and distribution sensor, breakage of the exhaust exhaust pipe fasteners due to the use of steel nuts instead of brass, injection system failures are possible on older cars. The operating temperature of the 2114 engine is 95-103 degrees. Now let’s take a closer look at the most common problems, the first of them: the engine speed fluctuates 2114, what is the reason? This usually happens at idle and on new cars, if this is your case, go for diagnostics and do it under warranty, if not, then look for the problem in idle speed control, throttle position sensor or vacuum seal. The same reasons (+ a problem with the mass air flow sensor) are relevant if the 2114 engine stalls while driving. Let's move on, is your 2114 engine tripping, tuning or running unevenly? We measure the compression, if in one cylinder the compression is much lower, the valve is burnt out, if the run-up is small, we adjust the valves or there is a problem in the gasket. If the compression is ok, then the reason is in the ignition module. We sorted this out, the next popular fault is that the VAZ 2114 engine does not heat up to the required operating temperature. The reason is simple - the thermostat, if you recently changed it... change it again, it has arrived. Quality! Knocking and noise in the VAZ 2114 engine is also not uncommon. Most often the cause is unadjusted valves. A dull metallic sound that increases when you press the gas pedal - the crankshaft main bearings or connecting rod bearings are knocking, it needs service. The pistons in the cylinder can also knock; service is indispensable.

There was a time when “samaras” were in fashion. They successfully competed with foreign cars that were inaccessible to the people. And until now, most young guys from the provinces would dream of buying this particular car as their first or even second in life.

The VAZ 2114 is a five-door hatchback with a 1.6-liter engine producing 81 horsepower. Despite its availability, it meets the requirements of the Euro III standard. Its power is enough for the owner of the Four to feel confident on the road and not get out of the main flow. At the same time, it is quite economical and works even on low-quality fuel.

On the used car market you can find “standard” and “luxury” trim levels. It's better to take the luxury option. It differs from the norm by the presence of fog lights and wheel covers. And the rear seats have comfortable headrests. The upholstery in the cabin is pleasant to the touch and does not get dirty. On the instrument panel there is a full-fledged on-board computer that shows fuel consumption, average speed and travel time.

The instrument panel has one drawback: the font of the numbers on the right computer display is too small. Poor assembly of interior parts also causes irritation. And hard plastic does not have a particularly beautiful appearance.

But among used cars you can find examples equipped, at the request of the former owners, with a whole range of additional options. Look for a car with an installed alarm and radio. Anti-corrosion protection is often applied to the fender liners, and crankcase protection is also provided. At one time, a lot of money was paid for this. Today you will get everything for free as a bonus for your diligent search for a well assembled car.

The car's trunk is not the largest - only 330 liters. Large wheel arches "steal" significant volume. But where can you go without them... Under the trunk there is a spare tire, which in “fresh” models is rotated in such a way that you can put additional tools and other small items in the wheel so that it does not “dangle” in the main compartment.

On the move, the Samara holds up well. The suspension is energy-intensive and copes even with large irregularities. The car is a pleasure to drive. Of course, there is practically no sound insulation here. The engine is quite powerful and flexible. The car feels good both on smooth asphalt and on broken dirt roads. Ground clearance of 170 millimeters makes it a real workhorse.

VAZ 2114 owners should always take into account the long braking distance. Therefore, it is always better to keep more distance. The car's protection level is quite low. It is better not to use all the dynamic capabilities of the engine, but to move around the city calmly.

For a naturally aspirated engine, chipping is useless; the improvement will be so small that it is impossible to feel it.

Increase engine power of VAZ 2114

Let's consider the potential of the 2111 8V engine without replacing the cylinder head with a 16 valve one. The 103 16V engine and its modifications are mentioned in a separate article. The easiest way to improve something is to replace the camshaft with an OKB Dinamika 108 or Nuzhdin 10.93, install a split gear, and adjust the phases. The output will be around 85 hp. at a minimum cost and a slightly more active motor. Let’s let the engine breathe freely, install a receiver, a 54 mm throttle body and a 4-2-1 spider exhaust, and we get 90-95 hp and dynamics at the Priora level. To this we add modifications to the cylinder head and intake manifold, lightweight valves, milling of the cylinder head, the power will jump to 100 hp or more. To further increase power, it is recommended to increase the engine capacity of the 2111 to 1.6 liters by increasing the stroke to 74.8 mm. using valves of increased diameter, lightweight valve plates, program settings, the car will show 110 or more hp, but in this configuration you need to select evil shafts with a wide phase and high lift. Compressor for VAZ 2114

An alternative method for obtaining such power is to install a compressor with a pressure of 0.5 bar. With proper tuning and using a Nuzhdin 10.42 shaft or a wider Nuzhdin 10.63 (or other manufacturers with similar characteristics), the motor will produce about 120 hp +\-. Attention MAT (18+)

It is possible to increase power without using a turbine up to 170 hp. and higher, but the service life of the VAZ 2111 engine is sharply reduced. It is possible to significantly increase the potential by installing a 16-valve cylinder head, with a receiver, a 54 mm damper and a 51 mm exhaust, output of 105-110 hp. occurs without resource loss.
