Lada 21093, technical characteristics of the car Lada (VAZ) 21093 (1987)

Until 2004, the VAZ 2109 was equipped with 1.1, 1.3, 1.5 liter carburetor engines, similar to the VAZ 2108 engines. In subsequent mass production, the installation of injectors was used. The excellent performance of the engine largely ensured the popularity of the VAZ 2109.

There are things that cannot be understood with the mind. Many of them are located in Russia, and one of these things is the undiminished popularity of products from the domestic automobile industry. Nowadays, this tradition continues, including in the models of the “ninth” VAZ family - the VAZ 21093 hatchback and the VAZ 21099 sedan.

Both cars are built on the VAZ 2109 platform, which in turn is a modification of the VAZ 2108, and the latter is considered the ancestor of front-wheel drive, transverse-engined cars in the domestic automobile industry.

VAZ 21093 is a two-volume five-door hatchback. It became a replacement for the VAZ 2109; its production line began in 1991. The main differences between the models were the replacement of the front “short wing” and short hood with a “long wing” and long hood, changes to the steering wheel, the lining of the rear side windows, and the appearance of the so-called “high” dashboard (and then the “European panel”). Instead of the 1.3-liter engine used on the VAZ 2109, a 1.5-liter carburetor engine was installed (63.7 hp and 94 N/m versus 70 hp and 106.4 N/m), which reduced acceleration time to one hundred from 16 to 13.5 seconds and increased the maximum possible speed from 148 to 156 km/h. Since 1994, the VAZ-21093 has had an injection engine of the same volume. VAZ 21093 has two modifications: VAZ-21093-02 and VAZ 21093-03, which differ from their base in the final drive ratio (3.7 versus 3.94) and the presence of an on-board control system, as well as (option 03) a trip computer, microprocessor ignition system.

The VAZ-21099 car has been produced since 1990, differs from the VAZ-21093 in its three-volume body type - a sedan, has four doors, and a new radiator lining. At one time, this car was a kind of sign of the “eliteness” of its owner. VAZ 21099 has two modifications similar to VAZ 21093 - 02 and 03, and the same technical characteristics. The 93rd and 99th VAZ models have a single-disc clutch, a 5-speed manual transmission, front independent MacPherson suspension (with wishbones and anti-roll bar) and trailing arms (with hydraulic shock absorbers and coil springs) rear suspension, front – disc and rear – drum brakes.

Among the operational “disadvantages” of the VAZ-21099 and 21093, first of all, it is necessary to highlight the poor quality of the metal (if you do not apply anti-corrosion treatment, rust spots appear after three years). Almost all cars have a rattling dashboard, and the interior has poor noise and dust insulation. Considering the general tendency of domestic enterprises to produce parts of poor quality, they often fail. The “ninth” family has much more “pros” than negatives. Firstly, this car (taking into account the suspension and ground clearance), like many domestic ones, is optimally suited for the roads on which it drives. The second point, often resulting from the first, is the maintainability of the “nines”. Yes, anything can break down and be demolished, but the cost of replacement and repair work will be adequate to the owner’s pocket. Thirdly, you can order parts at almost any auto store, and repair them in any garage. Over the past almost 20 years, cars of the “ninth” family have been among the most recognizable on domestic roads.

Characteristics

One of the most common cars in the CIS countries, the VAZ 2109, began to be produced back in 1988. Despite the already quite old age of this car model, it is still popular among the population of our country. The main difference between the VAZ 2109 and its predecessor 2108 is five doors instead of four and a more spacious body. The VAZ 2109 engine was also replaced. Thanks to these innovations, this car began to be positioned as a Soviet family car.

Rework

To replace a carburetor with an injector yourself, be sure to arm yourself with the following components:

  • Cylinder head from VAZ 2112 with receiver and manifolds;
  • Knock sensor;
  • Throttle pipe with throttle position sensor;
  • Mass air flow sensor and a number of other elements.

When everything is ready, you can start working.

  • Remove the old cylinder head. Plus, remove all attachments in the fuel assembly, gas tank and ignition system.
  • Remove the alternator, thermostat, pulleys and belts.
  • Install a new gas tank with a pump, borrowed from a donor - an injection VAZ.
  • Remove the carburetor and ignition system components that need to be replaced.
  • Disconnect the cooling system pipes and hoses. Here, install a completely new kit from the injector.
  • Remove the pan.
  • Install new pistons from an injection donor and connecting rods at 10. Standard carburetor components are not designed for an injection compression ratio. Plus there are special recesses for other valves.
  • Install a new unit with an underflow on the cover for the DPKV, replacing the standard oil pump. If you can remove the cover, then only that will be replaced.
  • After removing the old cooling system pipes, install new ones. The best solution is to replace the entire set. Buying it won't really impact your overall budget.
  • Prepare everything necessary to mount the 16 valve head. The fasteners match, only the bolts from the old head are long and need to be shortened. Plus, don’t forget to make a size 12 hole in the new head.
  • Install new fuel lines from the donor.
  • Connect your new gas tank to the lines.
  • Route the wiring from the control unit to the fuel pump. You can use old fuel level regulators from a carburetor car.
  • Cut a hole in the wall of the engine compartment through which the wiring will be routed. This way you won't have to make the standard wires longer.
  • Install the knock sensor by drilling a hole in the block and tapping a size 8 thread.
  • Be sure to replace the water pump using a unit from donor 2112.
  • Get a new crankcase breather and oil dipstick. Install them instead of the previous ones.
  • Install a new cylinder head. Just don't forget to change the gasket, which corresponds to a different head.
  • Install a thermostat borrowed from a VAZ 2112.
  • Connect the coolant pipes.
  • Remove the rear timing cover and rollers. The pulleys from 2112 are dismantled. The belt must be installed in accordance with the marks.
  • Install the new generator along with the drive. For the new generator, the upper fasteners will remain intact, since they are not provided for by the design of the carburetor VAZ 2109. Therefore, fasten the pair of lower mounting bolts as securely as possible.
  • Place all the sensors in their new places.
  • Seal the valve covers with a good quality sealant.
  • Assemble the ignition module, wires, spark plugs and other components.
  • Install the air filter.
  • Get your exhaust system back to normal. The muffler is often left stock, but the resonator and other components are taken from the donor.
  • The wiring is connected to the dashboard and the lock.
  • Fill in new oil, refuel the car with high-quality fuel.
  • Start the engine and take it for a test drive.

Joint venture

It is impossible not to mention the term that was often used in those years. These letters (SP) were also used at the plant in Togliatti. This is how Carlotta appeared - a modification of the Belgians, and 9 Baltic - a joint production with Finland. According to official data, the prototype model 93 was modified - 2109, but in the same years one could also find “Carlotta 93” - a modified model assembled on the basis of the VAZ-21093.

This is what Carlotta looked like. A distinctive feature by which it was recognized even in dense traffic is its dual headlights. And not a dummy, as some Russian craftsmen did with the flat headlights of the Sputnik, but precisely 2 pairs of headlights that turn on separately, like on a six.

And this is what the panel of the European Lada looks like (photo above): a different steering wheel, a different backlight, a different appearance, but the main design features of the panel of the ninth Sputnik still remain unchanged.

And a little more separately about Baltic

Strictly speaking, this car is not a joint production. “Lada-Baltic” is a completely separate line, which was assembled in Finland, a European country, for the European consumer. VAZ had to reach an agreement after sales of export cars began to decline. The quality of our transport has not always been stable, and the Baltic project was born just at the time of one of these cases.

The only thing that remained old about the car was its appearance. At the same time, a foreigner can also be distinguished by its design. Firstly, completely different colors, and secondly, the bumpers, sills and window trims were painted in the general tone of the car (this is how luxury cars looked). Thirdly, it was from these models that the Union came up with the idea of using metallic colors. All color schemes of this Lada came from the metallic line. It can be said, fourthly, that pure black color was not presented in Europe. These colors were produced only for domestic consumers. It is also interesting to note that the Finns have gone further than Russia. On the Internet there are photographs of cars produced in Finland with other bodies.

Foreign relatives of VAZ 21093

The Volzhsky Automobile Plant is not the only place where model 21093 cars were produced. Let us note two such projects:

  • VAZ 21093 in Finland;
  • VAZ 21093 in Ukraine.

Since 1996, the modernized VAZ 21093 was assembled in Finland according to the EuroLada project, the cars were produced under the name Lada Samara Baltic GL (21093-22). A kind of tuning of the VAZ 21093 was carried out. Finnish VAZ 21093 cars were distinguished by bumpers painted in body color, built-in fog lights, had an airbag in the steering wheel, alloy wheels and a catalytic converter. They had ground clearance reduced from 160 mm to 140 mm, a slightly smaller track and a curb weight increased to 1030 kg. In 1998, the project was closed.

Since 1999, nine were assembled from vehicle kits at the Lutsk Automobile Plant (Ukraine). Five years later, production was transferred to the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant (ZAZ). ZAZ organized full-scale production of model 21093. The plant independently produces the car from panels and assemblies. Stamping of body panels was also planned. Some of the cars are equipped with 1.3 liter engines produced by the Melitopol Motor Plant.

At ZAZ, the bodies were welded from Russian-made panels, painted with primer and enamel. For this purpose, the plant had a paint shop, a basic assembly line and a test bench. According to Ukrainian engineers, the quality of the body paint was superior to that of Togliatti. The VAZ 21093 assembly project in Ukraine lasted more than 10 years. The last ninety-third was released in 2012.

In total, the VAZ 21093 was produced for 25 years (from 1987 to 2012), keeping many technical characteristics stable.

Misconceptions

There are several opinions regarding the specification of the VAZ-21093 model. Technical characteristics: injector, 1.5 liter engine, front-wheel drive, 5 doors, etc. At the same time, other reference literature may indicate other data that includes the same characteristics, with the exception of 1.6 liter engine capacity. But according to the factory specification, all 99, and then 93 models had only a 1.5-liter engine. Yes, there were almost 1600 without a few units, but the specification still classifies them as class 1.5. The batch with a liter engine, which was produced on the basis of the same “mother”, has nothing to do with 93, because it was called 21091.

Specifications

It's time to look at the characteristics of our VAZ-21093. Technical specifications, body type, overall dimensions and other information are presented below.

Apart from the details that are indicated a few paragraphs above, the design of the VAZ-21093 (principal, electrical and other circuits) replicated the VAZ-21099 with a high degree of accuracy, except that it was one of the first hatchbacks in the Soviet Union.

Body and interior of VAZ 21093

Over the years of production of modification 21093, some changes have occurred in the design while maintaining the same body dimensions. The body of the ninety-third is a five-door hatchback, its front part and radiator have been updated, and a short wing has appeared. The overall and internal dimensions of models 2109 and 21093 are the same down to the millimeter. The interior of car 21093 is five-seater, but it is difficult for three large men to fit in the back. The rear row of seats folds down, almost doubling the trunk volume (from 330 liters to 640 liters).

The luxury package had an improved dashboard with a tachometer and an on-board computer, and it was possible to install electric windows and an anti-theft system. Several options were offered for the upholstery and seats: from the most unassuming gray textiles to higher quality colored materials. The interior of the ninety-third was comfortable and practical both for daily trips to work and for relatively long trips with children.

With regard to the body and interior of the VAZ 21093, tuning is quite possible. Experienced motorists often carry out tuning themselves.

Injector or carburetor?

It should be noted that the 93 model was produced in 2 stages. And the main part of the early cars (before 1994) differs from subsequent VAZ-21093 cars. The technical characteristics of carburetor cars are similar to 2109 and 2108. Starting from 1994, and then from 1997, the characteristics of the 93 model began to be exactly the same as the 99 (except for the body): 1.5 liter engine, front-wheel drive, 5-speed manual transmission, system fuel supply from 99, etc. It was because of the appearance of the injector that 93 received new wings, and 99 became longer than the previous ones.

Place 21093 in the AvtoVAZ model line

The prototype for the VAZ 21093 was the front-wheel drive hatchback VAZ 2109 “Sputnik”, with a 1.3 liter carburetor engine, produced in Togliatti since 1987. Its engine power was 64 horsepower. Externally, the 21093 Samara, which appeared in 1990, was not much different from the 2109. Dimensions, design, design - everything was almost like the nine. The main differences were hidden under the hood.

Modification 21093 received a new engine. The designers of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant increased the cylinder diameter from 78 to 82 mm with the previous piston stroke of 71 mm. This resulted in an increase in the working volume from 1288 cubic cm to 1499. The car's power increased, its performance characteristics improved (speed and acceleration dynamics), and fuel consumption decreased slightly. In general, the VAZ 21093 car has acquired noticeable liveliness.

The VAZ 21093 Samara was produced in Tolyatti until 2004, giving way to the model 2114, a five-door front-wheel drive hatchback from the Samara-2 family.

Technical characteristics of Lada (VAZ) 21093

VAZ-2109 cars have a 5-door body, thus fulfilling the need of domestic car enthusiasts for comfortable, versatile “family” cars. When the rear seat is folded, the car transforms into a cargo-passenger version, similar to a station wagon. Spacious trunk, high ground clearance, endurance, unpretentiousness, high comfort and good road handling. The use of a catalytic converter and an electronic emission reduction system for in-line transverse four-cylinder engines with a microprocessor-controlled ignition system makes the car more environmentally friendly. In 2004, the VAZ 21093 model was discontinued, but its assembly in small quantities continued in Syzran at the RosLada plant. In addition, the VAZ 21093 model began to be assembled in Ukraine (ZAZ) in 2004.

The automobile catalog contains a description, technical characteristics and photographs of the Lada (VAZ) 21093 car.

How does an injector work?

Any modernized design has features that affect its advantages and disadvantages. The operating principle of the injection configuration is to constantly monitor the pressure in the rail and supply gasoline precisely to the cylinders. The signal to the injector is supplied by the control unit, which reads the piston position from the crankshaft position sensor. The principle of operation is based on the interaction of many sensors, indicating to the electronic sensor of the car the state of components and assemblies.

The main features are noted before converting the injector into a VAZ 2109 carburetor:

  • The emission of harmful substances into the environment is significantly less; the car does not need to be configured or serviced before a technical inspection.
  • The maximum torque is produced upon reaching a certain number of revolutions; modern engines have higher revving speeds, which allows you to save gasoline during moderate urban use.
  • The absence of mechanical traction during a cold start of the internal combustion engine makes it easier to start in winter. Warm-up speed is controlled by a computer.
  • When installing gas equipment of the latest generation, it is better to convert a VAZ from a carburetor to a VAZ injector than to adapt it to an older installation.

Like all parts, there are certain drawbacks to the point supply of gasoline to the cylinders, even in the factory version. Faulty injectors can only be determined through computer diagnostics, which will require certain financial costs. Also, replacing the gasoline supply element will cost more; tuning to a certain octane number allows you to achieve the desired results, but will require investment.

Appearance of the injector

With the development of production, very soon after the launch of the 2109 model, the VAZ-21099 sedan appeared at AvtoVAZ, which already came with an injection engine. However, the great popularity of the hatchback forced the VAZ team to reconsider plans for the 2109. In 1991, a year after the launch of the 99th model, the VAZ-21093 injector appeared, the technical characteristics of which became the norm for all future nines. As they wrote in press releases of those times, this model is more suitable for a family man and has a less expressive appearance than the 2108. However, with the advent of the 99 model, which received an injector before the 93, the star of Sputnik at AvtoVAZ very soon waned. The model was supported by Ukraine, but production has been discontinued since 2011. It is interesting to note that in Ukraine the car retained its original name, despite the fact that it was assembled at the same plant where Zaporozhets, Tavria and subsequent brands were.

VAZ engine injector: control system diagnostics

Before touching upon general issues of diagnosing the control system, it is worth getting acquainted with the controller lamp

If a malfunction occurs while driving the car, the controller will detect it and notify the driver using “CHECK ENGINE”, while storing in its memory the necessary codes about the nature of the malfunction. With their help, the process of diagnosis and subsequent repair of the fuel injection system will be facilitated. It is the controller that is able to coordinate the operation of VAZ sensors and systems that are part of the general composition of all fuel injection units.

A few words about the DST-2M digital tester.

It is used to diagnose the engine injection control system. It is worth remembering that only a competent specialist can make the correct diagnosis. No matter how much an inexperienced mechanic strives to automate the process of diagnosing a car, having the necessary tools, he will not succeed without certain skills, which can in some cases aggravate an already difficult situation.

Diagnostics includes the following steps:

  • checking the fuel supply system, the operability of all sensors, actuators and the ignition system;
  • reading fault codes;
  • compression measurement;
  • data monitoring of the entire control system.

Once the injector has been diagnosed, the entire range of necessary services becomes clear if it is associated with a failed electronic system responsible for the performance of the engine.

VAZ-21093: technical characteristics and device

VAZ-2109 is a domestic Samara-Sputnik, one of the cars of the former Soviet Union, whose production began back in 1987. Then, 4 years later, in 1991, it was replaced by the VAZ-21093, the technical characteristics of which already included a more powerful 1.5 liter engine. In those years, buying a “nine” (as it was popularly called) or a 93 model was considered great luxury. And although the Union has been gone for a long time, 2109 is still in demand, despite the newfangled features of the Priora and Kalina. What caused this popularity?

In order to answer this question, let’s remember what made Samara stand out. After all, at that moment it was impossible to surprise anyone with a 1.5 liter engine. Earlier models also had such capabilities. As they write, the VAZ-21093 car had front-wheel drive, inherited from its mother - a “nine”, a 5-speed manual and only 6 liters on the highway. It seems like nothing special, but if you sit in the cabin: front windows, headlight adjustment, subsequently the appearance of a tachometer, and some happy car owners could boast of central locking.

Please note that panel 2109 does not have a tachometer. Even when it became a foreign car (we are talking about the 2109 Baltic), it did not acquire a tachometer. Photos of the panel for Baltic can be seen in this article.

"Satellite"

Those who remember Soviet prices, especially those who owned such a car, will agree that 6 liters per 100 km for a family of 3-4 people was a completely acceptable financial burden. But this “Sputnik” made it possible to organize tourist excursions over long distances.

Rear seats for two children in a family, a spacious trunk, low fuel consumption, plus some bells and whistles that the owners of earlier Zhiguli cars could not boast of - you get the VAZ-21093. We will look at the technical characteristics of the car below, but the entire automobile industry of those times did not have a more comfortable car, suitable for both city and country roads. “Nivas,” “fours,” and “twos” don’t count, because when we folded the rear seats, we got a semi-truck version that was larger in volume than the named models. You can mention model 8, the same Sputnik, but do not forget that the “nine” has five doors versus three for the 2108.

Engine dismantling

You can reduce the weight of the power plant if you remove it without:

  • Gearbox (its weight is about 30 kilograms);
  • a head weighing approximately 10 kilograms.

As a rule, at service stations, power units are removed assembled with the gearbox, while during self-repair, dismantling is carried out without attachments.

Let's give an example of engine dismantling, which is described in the car's operating instructions. The peculiarity of the work in this case is that the engine is removed through the bottom of the car. The manufacturer recommends not to disconnect the box from it, but to install the car itself on a lift.

  1. Disconnect the terminals and then remove the battery.
  2. Drain the coolant and engine oil.
  3. Remove the crankcase protection.
  4. Disconnect the muffler and remove the air filter.
  5. Loosen the brake booster hose clamp that leads to the powertrain inlet pipe.
  6. Unhook the ground from the crankcase; to do this you will need to unscrew the fasteners.
  7. Remove the high-voltage wire from the central contact of the distributor cover.
  8. Using a screwdriver, turn the spring clip and remove the block with the wires coming from the contact socket of the distributor.
  9. Remove the fuel hose.
  10. Remove the clutch cable end from the clutch drive lever.
  11. Disconnect the wires from the traction relay, from the generator output and from the carburetor shut-off valve.
  12. Disconnect the air supply hoses to the throttle and the fuel hoses leading to the carburetor.
  13. Remove the spring from the throttle actuator.
  14. Remove the speedometer and accelerator drive cables from the valve covers.
  15. Unhook the block with the wire from the economizer, remove the oil pressure and liquid temperature sensors in the cooling system.
  16. Remove the heater outlet hose and transmission drive rod.
  17. Next, you will need to disconnect the remaining conductors from the box and move the drive shafts to the side.
  18. After the steering rod and other parts are disconnected, place a stand under the engine and unscrew the nuts of the rear mounting support, then the right front and left.

Before lowering the engine, check that you have disconnected everything from it. In order to remove the engine from under the car, you need to lift the front part of it.

The 5-speed manual transmission VAZ 2109 was produced at a plant in Tolyatti from 1987 to 2005 and was installed on all numerous front-wheel drive AvtoVAZ models on the 2108-09 platform. This transmission is designed for torque of power units up to 1.6 liters and 120 Nm.

Carburetor. Advantages and disadvantages

Let's start with the negative points. These include:

  • Such engines have not been installed on production cars for a long time. In Europe, due to environmental requirements, carburetors are blacklisted. That is, they are prohibited because they heavily pollute the atmosphere;
  • At high speeds, the engine's capabilities drop significantly. Torque does not reach the desired levels. But at low speeds it is effective and allows you to accelerate well from zero to hundreds;
  • When overtaking, the carburetor is a pain. It is problematic to overtake cars normally and confidently. Especially considering the power of the carburetor nines;
  • High fuel consumption when compared with injection engines. On average, a nine with a carburetor in normal mode consumes about 8.5-9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers;
  • The air damper is controlled manually. The exception is some versions of the latest samples, where automatic devices have been installed. Some motorists claim that manually controlling the throttle in winter has its advantages, as it allows you to feel the engine. But only experienced drivers can understand this.

But let's not just talk about the bad. The VAZ 2109 with a carburetor also has positive qualities:

  • The cost of a carburetor is much cheaper than an injection engine;
  • Engine maintenance costs less, and the work itself is easier to perform if you repair it yourself;
  • Fans of carburetors claim that the absence of control units and microcontrollers is an undeniable advantage. Although one can argue with him;
  • If the engine fails even 100 kilometers from the nearest settlement or service station, it is not a problem for experienced drivers, since repairs can be carried out even in the field. But this will require the availability of appropriate tools and passenger assistance.

Swapping a couple of armored pipes and doing a purge is a simple option for quickly repairing a carburetor yourself. The injection engine does not understand such tricks.

Injector. Advantages and disadvantages

In short, all the advantages of the injector are the disadvantages of the carburetor, and all the disadvantages are the advantages of the carburetor.

The key features of injection engines include:

  • Injectors are more environmentally friendly and meet the requirements for emissions of harmful substances;
  • Although the torque is insufficient at low speeds, it makes overtaking easier at high speeds. The engine seems to get a second wind;
  • Injector maintenance costs are higher;
  • For normal operation of such an engine, clean fuel is needed. The carburetor “feeds” on everything;
  • To check faults, it is necessary to perform diagnostics, which is time-consuming and expensive;
  • The injector consumes less fuel. The average is 6-7 liters per 100 kilometers;
  • Almost all systems function through computer control, therefore, when working correctly, the engine operates as efficiently and economically as possible;
  • It is possible to install HBO on the injector. But with a carburetor, such a step is fraught with a number of difficulties.

Transmission and chassis of the VAZ 21093

The transmission on the VAZ 21093 is structurally made of one unit, including a clutch and a manual gearbox (MT). The gearbox is combined with a differential, the clutch is single-plate. The clutch housing is connected to the flywheel with bolts. To ensure contact with the pressure plate, six elastic plates are used. The gearbox is manual, five-speed. The input shaft gears are constantly meshed with the driven gears. The secondary shaft has two synchronizers.

The car's wheel drive includes two constant velocity joints (CV joints): a rod shaft on the left and a tubular shaft on the right. The front suspension of the car is independent, hydraulic shock absorbers, cylindrical springs. The rear suspension is torsion bar, independent, with a trailing arm design.

The braking system on the 21093 uses front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. There is a diagonal interaction of contours. One circuit includes the right front and left rear wheels, the other - the remaining two. The hydraulic drive of the system includes a vacuum booster and a pressure regulator for the rear brakes.

93 engine options

There are two engine options for the 21093:

  • carburetor VAZ 21083;
  • injection VAZ 2111.

Both engines are in-line, four-cylinder, eight-valve and have a displacement of 1499 cm3. The motors are located transversely at the front. Their cylinder diameter and piston stroke are the same, and the compression ratio is 9.9. The engines consume gasoline: carburetor - AI-93, injection - AI-95. The fuel tank capacity is the same - 43 liters.

The VAZ 21083 engine on the VAZ 21093 carburetor model develops maximum power of 70 horsepower at 5600 rpm, and torque is 104 Nm at 3400 rpm. The maximum speed is 154 km/h, the engine accelerates the car to 100 km/h in 13.4 s. Fuel consumption of the VAZ 21093 per 100 km in the city is 8 liters, outside the city - 5.7 liters, in the combined cycle - 6.8 liters. The curb weight is 915 kg.

In 1994, an injector version of the VAZ 21093 was released, designated VAZ 21093i. The technical characteristics of the VAZ 21093i have changed for the better. Engine power increased to 78 horsepower at 5400 rpm, torque was 116 Nm at 3000 rpm. Acceleration time to 100 km decreased to 13 s. Now about how much the car eats. Fuel consumption in the city is equal to 9 liters per 100 km, outside the city - to 5.9 liters, in the combined cycle - to 7.2 liters. The curb weight is 945 kg.

Car injector breakdowns

Quite often a situation arises when a fuel-injected car starts poorly or does not start at all. The reasons for this operation may be dirty spark plugs from low-quality fuel, problems in the operation of the generator, starter, or insufficient current in the battery. The main malfunction is the low fuel supply to the injector frame; accordingly, an insufficient amount of fuel is sprayed by the injectors.

The fuel pump is responsible for supplying fuel to the injector; it may not produce the pressure necessary for normal operation of the car engine. In this case, it is best to replace the pump. If the reason is not a pump failure, then it will be enough to replace the filter in it. Another common cause of malfunction is the failure of one or more injector nozzles. Low-quality fuel, which sometimes, against our will, enters the system, contains various additives that are deposited on the injectors and interfere with proper operation.

When the injectors become dirty, the vehicle's fuel consumption increases noticeably and the vehicle's traction decreases. If fuel is not supplied in the amount required for engine operation, then the speed on the tachometer begins to fluctuate. In all injection VAZ cars, the average engine speed at idle should not exceed 900 rpm.
