Considering the unification of many components of the XRay family with Renault cars, we should expect that the ground clearance of the X-Ray Cross will be similar or close to this figure for the Duster, that is, 205-210 mm.

How can a car with the Lada nameplate compare to similarly priced models from other brands? With its closest relatives bearing a diamond on the hood, it’s already clear - Logan and Sandero are 10 mm lower, Duster is the same amount higher, and Stepway is a twin brother. What is the ground clearance of cars of other brands?
If we take cars of a similar class, the market can offer the following options:
- Nissan Terrano - in its current incarnation this is the same Duster with its 210 mm.
- Lifan X60 is only 179 mm, and to this we must add the widespread prejudice about Chinese “quality”.
- The Lifan X50 with its 200 mm figure as a crossover is noticeably better than the X60, but the lack of even engine and gearbox protection in the basic configuration seriously limits the capabilities of the car out of the box.
- Although the Lada Kalina Cross is not a direct competitor to the XRay, 200 mm to the crankcase protection and a lower price can still sway the buyer in its favor.
- The Suzuki Vitara is not only more expensive, but also 10mm lower than the XRay.

What does X-Ray have to offer?
Comfort comes first in the Lada XRay. Everything that the eye stops at speaks about this: high-quality upholstery, an advanced multimedia system, a climate control system with a unique cooled glove box, a well-organized interior space with many niches for storing necessary small items, cup holders and an organizer in the wheel well and under trunk floor, rain and light sensors, etc. Much attention was paid to active/passive safety.
The car is offered with two engine options: 106 and 122 hp. pp., in the second case, automatic transmission is also possible. We will also present other figures that are important in terms of cross-country ability. In particular:
- front and rear overhangs – 830 and 743 millimeters;
- approach and departure angles are 21 and 34 degrees.
Meanwhile, the proverb “trust, but verify,” as it turns out, also applies to the figures announced by AvtoVAZ. No, there is no deception of buyers here. It’s just that the manufacturer, when measuring ground clearance, apparently “forgot” to install crankcase protection. With this element, the vehicle's ground clearance is reduced to 190 millimeters. However, this figure is good enough even for Russian roads somewhere in the outback. And the difference is not so critical as to declare deception - rather, a little trick. In fairness, it is worth recalling that all automakers are guilty of this kind of tricks, so VAZ is not doing anything reprehensible in this case.
I would also like to note one more point. Surely, many people know that for the production of X-Ray they did not develop a new platform, but borrowed it from the Renault Sandero Stepway, an affordable car with high ground clearance and front-axle drive. Accordingly, VAZ designers simply did not have any special options in terms of changing the ground clearance.
By the way, an excellent budget SUV was previously created on the same platform - Renault Duster, loved by many for its excellent ratio between price and performance characteristics. This model is taller than X-Ray. It turns out that there is still some room for maneuver, albeit small.
