The sequence of actions for installing headlight cleaners is as follows:

  1. Unscrew the fasteners and remove the radiator grille.
  2. We insert the motors into their original grooves.
  3. We secure the electric motors from the outside using a 14 nut. To prevent the shaft from turning sour, remove the rubber cap, fill it with Litol-24 grease and put it in place.
  4. We mount leashes with brushes on the shaft.
  5. We extend the washer tubes under the hood and put the radiator grille in place.
  6. Instead of the standard washer reservoir, we install a reservoir with two motors. One is connected to the tube going to the windshield, the other is connected to the tube from the headlights through a tee and a valve. Plus is supplied to the valve from the pump power.
  7. We connect the wires according to the diagram.
  8. We install the relay in its standard place in the mounting block.

Since, according to the instructions described above, the headlight washer works simultaneously with the windshield washer, in the spring and autumn the liquid from the reservoir is consumed quite quickly during the daytime, which does not suit many car owners. To use the fluid more efficiently, a separate button should be installed on the headlight washer.

Walk over the collector with a cloth soaked in solvent. If there is a lot of wear, you need to change the armature or motor. Defects on the gear will require it to be replaced. Assembly occurs in reverse order. Therefore, before installing a replacement electric motor, you need to clean the trapezoid from contamination, lubricate the rubbing elements, motor and gearbox.

If the wipers fail to operate in intermittent mode, it can be argued that the relay has failed. First you need to check the power supply to the relay block. To do this, you need to remove the relay, turn on the wipers in intermittent mode, and check the voltage at the terminals. If no current flows, you need to repair the open circuit or replace the switch. The design of the relay is such that it cannot be repaired. So, if it does not work under voltage, you need to replace the part with a new one.

Wiper switch

To check the voltage supply to the switch, you need to remove the pads from the steering control or on the relay connection blocks. There is always voltage on the black-yellow wire. Check on the red and gray wires. If there is no voltage on one of them, then you need to change the switch.

Causes of fuse blown.

If the wipers do not work in two positions of the switch, then most likely the fuse has blown, which serves to protect the circuit from short circuits and overloads. “Plus” power is supplied from the ignition switch through fuse No. 2 at 10 Amp of the mounting block. The permanent “plus” goes along the black and yellow wires to contacts “4” of the connectors of the gear motor and the steering column switch. It should not disappear even when the switch is in the “off” position. The blue wire supplies “+” 12 V power to the motor when the switch is in “continuous mode” position. On the blue-white wire, in the “off” position there should be a “minus”, and in the “continuous mode on” position the “minus” is turned off. This is done to slow down the motor when the power to the closer is turned off.

The red wire supplies the relay with “+” 12 V from the switch when the intermittent mode is turned on. At the moment of operation, contacts “2” and “4” close, and “1” and “3” open, the motor starts working and the brushes make one or two movements. Then “+” 12 V is turned off, and contacts “1” and “3” are closed to each other and to “minus”. The motor stops for a few seconds and then the cycle repeats.

The washer pump motor is connected to “+” 12 V constantly with a black and yellow wire through the same fuse No. 2. “Minus” is applied when you press the windshield wiper lever from bottom to top.

A washer is installed to remove dirt. The design of the VAZ washer includes: a motor, a pump, nozzles and a reservoir. The motor starts the washer pump, which pumps up the fluid in the washer reservoir. It sprays onto the glass through the nozzles.

Frameless wipers: features

This design does not have its own skeleton. Basically, frameless wipers are a kind of tape that has a steel plate inside. Their appearance harmonizes perfectly with any car, which cannot be said about the skeletons of frame wipers.

These models do not belong to the economy segment. For different brands of cars, such wipers are selected individually. The curvature of the windshield of any car is formed according to aerodynamic parameters. Therefore, the curvature of the wiper must also be appropriate.

Technically, this is all quite easy to implement: the intermittent mode creates an electronic or mechanical relay paired with a switch inside the electric motor, and with the constant movement of the brushes, voltage is constantly supplied to the same electric motor. Wipers do not work intermittently

As mentioned above, the breaker relay is responsible for the intermittent operation of the wipers. It can be mechanical (on older cars) or electronic. Accordingly, if the wipers work in constant mode (which is created by bypassing this relay) and do not work in intermittent mode, there is a reason to check the relay.

However, before starting the test, you need to make sure that the relay is receiving voltage from the steering column switch set to the intermittent mode position. It may well be that the malfunction lies in it, and not in the relay. In the steering column switch, in particular, the corresponding contact may oxidize or the wire connecting it to the relay may break.

Based on this, you need to find a wiring diagram for the wipers on your car and check whether current flows from the switch to the relay. If not, look at the switch. If there is current, check the relay.

Wipers do not work constantly

When the windshield wipers work great in intermittent mode, but refuse to move constantly, you can immediately talk about a malfunction in the same steering column switch or problems in the area between it and the wiper motor. Simply put, the voltage from the switch is not supplied to the motor. You also need to check this electrical circuit with a multimeter or a test light to make sure that all terminals are clean and securely fastened.

The wipers don't turn on at all

If the windshield wipers do not react at all to the steering column switch, you should start with a classic check - make sure the fuse is intact. If it is intact, you need to check the steering column switch for voltage supply to it and correct closure of the contacts inside. Most likely, there will be no voltage on it.

A special case of complete failure of the wipers is when they are blocked by something. This could be a wrench left under the hood, a rag, or frozen wiper blades (read what to do if your wiper blades are frozen). For such situations, a special fuse is usually installed in windshield wiper systems. This device saves the wiper motor from overheating and failure by turning off the power. In the simplest case, such a fuse is a heat-sensitive plate that, when heated, changes shape and opens the contact. After turning off the voltage, it returns to its previous position and you can use the device (in this case, the wipers) again.

When the wipers are blocked, they usually still move at least a little from their “parking” position. Therefore, if there is still a slight reaction to switching on, check the freedom of movement of the brushes and trapezoid. Most importantly, do this with the wipers off.

The pause between strokes is not adjustable

If your car has the ability to adjust the pause between wiper sweeps and this function stops working, the adjusting resistor is most likely to blame. This part, depending on the rotation of the knob (or wheel), changes the resistance value in the wiper relay circuit, due to which it is possible to adjust the pause. This resistor should be replaced.

In theory, if you have certain knowledge, you can try to restore it by identifying the failed element and replacing it. But if you need to fix your car urgently, the easiest way is to replace the device with a new one. This is very easy to do:

  • Remove the negative terminal from the battery, de-energizing the entire on-board network of the vehicle.
  • Unscrew 2 screws.
  • Take out the plug, put it on the new device and screw it into place.

How does the wiper relay work?

The operation of the windshield wiper involves a chain of elements, which includes an electric motor, a fuse, a power button and a relay. The latter performs the most important function, managing the entire process. It functions as follows:

  • When you press the power button, power is supplied to the relay, the contacts inside close, the coil turns on and the wiper gear motor starts working.
  • Over the next 3 seconds, the bimetallic plate inside the device heats up, and the power from the electric motor of the VAZ 2107 windshield wipers is lost.
  • After this, the panel cools down quickly enough and the wipers start working again.

Features of removing the windshield wiper motor and trapezoid on a VAZ 2106

The first step is to disconnect the power plug from the wiper motor. To do this, disconnect it by pulling the ends to the sides with a little force:

And after that we remove the wire with the plug from the slot in the body of the VAZ 2106:
