Recommendations for choosing engine oil for the LADA Largus engine

Greetings to all largus guides who have visited my blog at this moment.

Today I’ll tell you what kind of engine oil is recommended to be poured into Largus and where it can be purchased at the lowest price in Yaroslavl.

Many people change the oil immediately after buying a new car, without waiting for the first maintenance. Someone is waiting for the car to travel 2000 km or 10,000 km or even 15,000 km. The service book for Largus states that the engine oil is changed after the first 30,000 km.

Personally, I am one of those drivers who prefer to change the oil in the first days after purchasing a car. He did the same with Largus. All subsequent replacements are made every 10,000 - 15,000 km.

About the Lada Largus model and its engine

Largus belongs to the small class station wagons, built on the B0 platform. This is the same Dacia Logan MCV, only completely adapted to the realities of Russian roads and operating conditions. It has been successfully produced by Tolyatti residents for 7 years and does not lose popularity among consumers.

Largus is available in three variations: 5- and 7-seater station wagons, as well as a van designed for two people, including the driver.

All three modifications can be equipped with two powertrain options:

8 “boiler”, 1.6 l and 87 hp. (K7M) - developed by AvtoVAZ specialists;

16-valve, 1.6 l, 102 “horses” (K4M) – developed by Renault-Nissan specialists.

Recommended and optimal oils for Lada Largus

The manufacturer offers the same oil for each engine option. This is a “representative” of the ELF brand (Solaris RNX), which has a viscosity of 5W30. The only difference is the volume of lubricant that is poured into the Largus engine:

  • for the 16-valve Largus engine the volume is 4.8 l,
  • for an 8-valve you need 3.3 liters.

In addition, the car's manual contains information about what oils they recommend. As with all cars, the use of engine oil for Lada Largus directly depends on the climatic conditions in which it is operated.

Top 5. Shell Helix Ultra

Shell Helix ultra 5w-40 engine oil only loses viscosity at -45˚C, reducing wear and facilitating cold starts in harsh temperature conditions. The closest competitor, ELF Evolution 900 SXR, is inferior in this indicator by 3 ˚C.

  • Average price (4 l): 2419 rub.
  • Country: UK
  • API: SN
  • ACEA: A3/B3, A3/B4
  • SAE: 5W-40
  • Pour point, ˚C: -45

Drivers who have experience operating a LADA Largus with a K4M or K7M engine in the northern regions speak positively about this motor oil. The synthetic product is made from natural gas using GTL technology, is highly pure and leads to a noticeable reduction in fuel consumption. The absence of impurities has made it possible to slow down the aging of the lubricant to a minimum - many safely drive 15 thousand km on it. Another reason to fill in Shell Helix Ultra oil is its excellent cleaning ability, which allows you to gently rid the internal combustion engine of accumulated deposits in just 3-4 changes. Owners of Largus with 16 valves only complain that it is almost impossible to find the product in 5-liter packages.

  • Low tendency to evaporate
  • Accelerated engine warm-up
  • Wear and corrosion protection
  • There is no five-liter packaging

What to look for when choosing

Before pouring oil into the Lada Largus, you need to remember that no matter what lubricant is used, there is no fundamental difference in the number of valves - it “works” equally well on both engine options.

Therefore, first of all, it is necessary to decide on the composition. This definition depends on the operating mode of Largus. If the car will be used daily, then it is worth pouring into such a car oil created on the basis of conventional or hard hydrocracking.

In simple terms, we are talking about synthetic lubricant and semi-synthetic lubricant, respectively. You can also use mineral oil, but you will have to change it more often.

If Lada Largus is driven at high speeds, then it is necessary to use lubricants based on esters or PAO. As for mineral oils, they are completely unsuitable for such operating modes.

Tips from Largus owners

Thanks to its unpretentiousness, Lada Largus is able to “work” on any of the oils on the market.

In order for the engine to operate as long as possible, it is necessary to change the lubricant a little more often than indicated in the regulatory documentation - approximately every 8 thousand kilometers. This will allow the lubricant to protect engine parts from excessive wear.

And the market is now simply teeming with proposals, both from well-known brands and from “Chinese” analogues. The main condition is not to fall for a fake, as it can have a detrimental effect on the engine.

In order not to buy a “pig in a poke”, you need to purchase lubricants for Largus only from trusted sellers and avoid cheap offers. If you follow these recommendations, the “goose” motor (as Largus is popularly called) will last a long time.

What kind of oil was filled in the engine from the factory?

Both the 8 valve (K7M) and the 16 valve (K4M) at AvtoVAZ are filled with new synthetic oil ELF 5W-30 RN0700 . Salespeople at a car dealership will also recommend this oil to you. Classification according to ACEA A5/B5 - according to API SL/CF.

Judging by many surveys on websites dedicated to servicing Largus, many adhere to these recommendations.

But you can use other oil. The main thing is that it corresponds to the quality class and viscosity level specified in the instruction manual. ASEA oil class - A1, A2, A3 and A5; by API - SL, SM and SN.

Leaders include Shell, Lukoil and Zic.

Features of an oil change in Largus

1. Square key for 8;

2. New oil filter for a gasoline engine (7700274177). Be careful, there are fakes;

3. Drain plug washer or pan gasket (110265505R). Under this article it is steel with a rubber insert in the center. It may be completely copper. Both types cost 30-35 rubles;

4. Container for draining. An old canister of oil or windshield washer fluid is handy. It's also helpful to find something like mosquito netting or old tulle to put over the canister. This way you won’t have to look for the drain plug;

5. Naturally motor oil and straight arms;

From my own experience, I can tell you that you don’t have to drive into a pit to drain the oil from the crankcase. On a flat surface, you can easily crawl under the front end to the drain plug.

The procedure for changing the oil is as follows:

1. On a hot engine, unscrew the drain plug and drain the used oil. It’s better to take your time and wait about 30 minutes. During this time, the engine will cool down and you won’t get burned when you unscrew the oil filter;

2. Unscrew the oil filter. You'll probably need a puller. I advise you to buy a “Crab” puller, they are available everywhere, but the cup puller needs to be selected according to the size of the filter;

3. You can slightly unscrew the engine filler cap;

4. Tighten the drain plug!

5. Install a new filter, having previously lubricated it with oil. Important: you don’t need to tighten too much, just hand effort is enough! If you tighten tightly, the next time the filter will be difficult to unscrew;

How to replace the oil filter

You will need : a 10" or 13" wrench, a puller or a screwdriver.

On the K4M engine, access to the oil filter is blocked by the engine protection, which will have to be removed (6 x 10 screws). Or remove the fuel frame protection from above by unscrewing the 2 “13” screws. Place an empty container under the filter and turn it counterclockwise using a puller.

If you don’t have a special tool, you can use a screwdriver. For easier access to the filter on the K7M engine, you can remove the exhaust manifold thermal shield by unscrewing the three mounting screws. Then pierce the filter housing with a screwdriver (closer to the bottom of the filter, so as not to damage the motor fitting), unscrew the filter, using the screwdriver as a lever.

Fill the new filter 1/3 full with new engine oil and lubricate the sealing ring with it. Then install the oil filter, tightening it by hand until the O-ring comes into contact with the cylinder block. After this, tighten the oil filter another 3/4 turn.

What volume of oil to fill in Largus

  • K7M (8 valve) - 3.3 liters
  • K4M (16 valve) - 4.8 liters

Mark the desired level on the canister, and as you approach it, check the oil level with a dipstick. This way you are less likely to overfill. The oil is not completely drained from the engine, and some of it remains. Therefore, do not be surprised if you use less oil than recommended. The main thing is that the level on the dipstick is between o and “max”.

What and how to choose?

What kind of oil should I use? To select the correct oil, you will need to study the manual supplied with the car. Its pages display all the required characteristics and properties of the lubricant. To replace, you will need to contact a dealer service station. If the car’s warranty period has already expired, then such a replacement can be carried out independently or with the help of service technicians. The procedure itself is not complicated and does not require any secret skills. Having decided on the choice of which oil to pour, we continue.

The system filter must be replaced at the same time as the oil. Based on the characteristics and properties of the lubricant regulated by the manufacturer, we can safely consider the following products:

  • “Shell” with the following viscosity and temperature parameters “5W–40”;
  • "Valvolin" with "5W-30";
  • "Gulf Formula G", has the characteristics of "5W-40";
  • "ZIC A+" with "10W–40".
  • Where to buy oil for Largus?

    And now, as promised, I’m writing where to buy Elf 5w-30 oil at the lowest price.

    In Yaroslavl, the lowest price is offered in the online store logan76.ru. A five-liter canister of oil was purchased there for 1,841 rubles. with home delivery. Purchased in March 2016.

    The VAZ plant has been producing station wagons of the Largus family since 2011. This model has always had two engines in its arsenal - 8 and 16 valves. In the second case, the requirements for the quality of fuels and lubricants will be as strict as possible. And when choosing the right oil, mistakes are usually made. It’s easier to choose oil for a Lada Largus for a 16-valve engine this way: we take what is poured at the factory. But there are other options that are discussed in the text.

    Five liters - from the canister and into the engine. This is the only way (example in the video).

    All information on choosing engine oil for Lada Largus

    When the production of K4M motors was localized, the plant was first supplied with one material - SHELL PC 1448, 0W30. Then barrels with another material were noticed - LUKOIL Genesis RN 5W40. According to official information, the engine is filled with ELF SOLARIS RNX oil. The latter belongs to the 5W30 class.

    The most expensive material for refilling K4M

    By analyzing all the information, you can choose which oil to pour into the Lada Largus engine with 16 valves. Are there any other options:

    • Before localization, it was stated that K4M engines were filled with SHELL PC 1021 oil (viscosity was not specified);
    • Answer received from the support service: the first filling material for all Largus engines is ELF EXCELLIUM NF 5W40 oil. The date of receipt of the response is December 2, 2014.

    So there are five different brands named here. And all this is the first refueling!

    Renault company recommendations (motor oil regulations)

    It's no secret that the Lada Largus is a redesigned Renault Logan station wagon. When buying a Renault car, everything looks simpler than with Largus:

    • From the factory, the K4M engine is filled with ELF Excellium LDX oil. Its viscosity is 5W40 (not 5W30);
    • ELF Evolution SXR with a viscosity of 5 would be recommended . 5W30 is for 8 valves.

    oil with the index “ W30 ” will be less viscous than “ W40 ”. And for hydraulic compensators you need just the second one.

    You can follow Reno's recommendations and everything will be fine.

    The owners themselves are still arguing about what kind of oil to pour into the Lada Largus engine - 5W/30 or 5W/40. And if we talk about 16 valves, there is no consensus yet.

    Subtotal

    All options for “factory” refueling:

    • SHELL: brand PC 1448 (0W30), PC 1021 (presumably 0W30);
    • ELF: brand SOLARIS RNX (5W30), EXCELLIUM NF (5W40), EVOLUTION SXR (5W40);
    • Russian industry: LUKOIL GENESIS RN (5W40).

    Top 4. Gazpromneft Premium

    Gazpromneft Premium 5W-40 oil provides reliable friction protection for LADA Largus engine parts with 16 valves in urban operating conditions. At the same time, the combination of performance characteristics and cost is the most balanced among the rating participants.

    The Russian manufacturer has created a product that is perfect for owners of LADA Largus with 8 and 16 valve engines. Synthetic motor oil is fully optimized for operation in Russian Federation conditions. A large number of users note that the lubricant performed very well in urban conditions. Those who regularly fill the Largus engine with Premium C3 as a replacement are confident in the characteristics of the product, which provides reliable protection of the internal combustion engine from wear in any conditions. The dependence of viscosity on external temperature is also considered optimal, so lubricant can be poured into the engine all year round. At the same time, some car owners do not like the packaging of the product - they consider it not very durable due to the insufficient thickness of the plastic.

    About choosing a filter

    The oil filter on the K4M engine must be changed at every oil change. This requirement is more stringent than for 8 valves. On an 8-valve engine, the filter can be replaced “every other time,” although this is contrary to the regulations. But the 16-valve engine is not ready for such “difficulties”.

    Articles

    The Renault catalog contains two designations - 7700274177 and 8200768913. These are the article numbers for oil filters. But they differ - the first, “shorter” filter comes from the factory.

    Filters 7700274177 (left) and 8200768913 (right)

    Filter housing height:

    • 7700274177 – 49 mm;
    • 8200768913 – 53 mm;
    • 7700873603 – 55 mm.

    You can try the third option at your own risk.
