How to replace the battery in a standard Ford Focus 2 key

The service life of a battery installed from the factory in a chip or switch key is about 4-5 years, after which it requires replacement. The Ford Focus 2 Restayl and Pre-Restayl had 2 types of keys - one flip-flop, the other simple. In our instructions below, you will find information on how to replace the batteries on both keys.

What kind of battery is in the Ford Focus 2 keys?

To replace we need a CR2032 . It is quite common, so you won’t have any problems purchasing it. This type of battery is used in many car keys, as well as watches and other gadgets.

Battery characteristics:

  • Size CR2032
  • Battery type Li
  • Voltage 3V

Today, manufacturers offer a large selection of batteries of this type:

  • GP CR2032
  • Duracell cr2032
  • SONY CR-2032
  • Energizer CR2032
  • Panasonic CR2032

When purchasing, we advise you to pay attention not only to the manufacturer, but also to the price. You should not buy batteries that are too cheap, as you may end up with a fake.

Which battery is suitable?

The Ford Focus 2 key fob will require a battery number CR2032. Such “tablets” are used in car keys of other brands and in watches. Features of the element: power – 3 V, diameter – 20 mm, height – 3.1 mm, type – Li-ion.

Step-by-step replacement instructions

Now let's start replacing the battery in the key. As stated above, these devices come in two types: flip key fob and smart key. Let's consider both options.

Switchblade key

We throw away the mechanical key. At the side end of the key fob body, under its seat (key), we find a hole.

Lock hole

We insert a small screwdriver into it and turn it counterclockwise until a wide gap forms between the two halves of the key fob. This is about three turns of a screwdriver.

Open the lock holding the halves of the device together

After this, the keychain is easily divided into 2 parts.

Dividing the keychain into two halves

We also disassemble the piece with buttons and logo into 2 halves, like a walnut, using a suitable plastic object or, in extreme cases, the same screwdriver or knife.

Opening the electronic part

On the key fob cover we see a compartment with a CR2032 battery installed. Please note that the element is inserted without a top.

The battery is located in the key fob cover

Use the tip of a knife to pry up the battery and remove it. We install a new one in its place, observing the polarity, and press until it clicks. We close, snap the cover of the electronic part and put in place the block with a folding mechanical key.

Important! During the battery replacement process, we take care not to damage or lose the spring contact tabs that connect the positive batteries to the electronic board.

If we bend or break these contacts, the key fob will not work

Problems after replacing the battery

Sometimes after replacing the battery in the key, the car “does not see” the key. This means that the program has gone wrong and the key needs to be reprogrammed. It's not difficult to do this.

We turn the ignition switch to position - 2 short stops four times. Next, set it to position - 0 and wait for the sound signal.

The signal will sound for about 10 seconds, after which you can program the key. To do this, you need to press any button on the key.

How to determine if a replacement is needed

First of all, let's find out how to understand that the power supply needs to be replaced. Here are the main signs that the battery in the key fob is very discharged and it’s time to install a new one:

  1. The range of the key fob was reduced to several meters.
  2. The car does not immediately respond to control signals from the key fob. For example, the alarm turns on only after several attempts.
  3. The car does not respond to commands at all. The problem may not be with the battery, but the first thing to do is replace the battery with a known good one.
  4. The battery lasted more than 4 years, regardless of the frequency of use of the key.

Smart Ford

Ford Focus

3 here, of course, can safely be called a “smart” car. The car’s electronics perform a huge number of functions, control the operation of the engine, diagnose the operation of various systems and components of the car and keep a huge number of all sorts of little things under control; from time to time the driver is reminded of this fact.

At first, there are no teeth to such little things, including monitoring the battery charge in the ignition key of the Ford Focus 3. This little thing is essentially of great importance. A huge number of drivers, whose cars are equipped with electric keys or alarms, at some point are faced with a situation where the battery in which the key

otherwise the key fob was discharged. In this option, you either have to urgently find a battery or a spare key fob. Otherwise it is impossible to open and start the car. In this context, a timely reminder to replace the battery does not seem like a trifle.

Ford Focus 3, when it detects a weakening of the battery charge, from which the key is required, very aggressively reminds that it needs to be changed. Otherwise, the car simply does not move.

Diagnostics

To carry out technological manipulations of this kind requires the involvement of experienced electronics engineers from authorized service stations using specialized equipment and devices. This makes it possible to carry out high-quality verification work. For this purpose, using a special radar device, the characteristics and level of the signal sent by the key fob are determined. This process involves directing the remote control to the diagnostic receiving mechanism and testing each function of the key fob unit in turn.

Opening FF2 without keys

In general, this situation has three types: 1) When the bar was pulled, it simply jumped off the round joint on the cylinder side or on the lock side; 2) When the barbel ligament is broken from the larvae side; 3), when the tie is broken from the side of the lock.

1) In the first case, everything is quite simple, either by touching, placing your hand under the bumper, placing the antennas on the hinge, it is not so simple, or below, see page 2 and page 3 2) In the second case, the situation becomes a little more complicated, we take pliers in hand, we push the hand from below behind the bumper, grab the pliers by the plastic rod and carefully, trying not to overdo it and break the remaining tendrils on the rod from the lock, first turn the stop counterclockwise to make a characteristic click. the lock is open, then clockwise and pull the hood up. the hood is open if the antennas are broken and the rod has finally come off, see below page 3. 3) In the third case, the task becomes even more difficult, you will need a long slotted screwdriver, or a device like mine

I made this from the handle of a bucket, the wire there is just thick, strong, not very bent, in a word, what you need. In the vastness of the drives, which only the device was not invented to open this ill-fated hood))

Push the screwdriver or adapter through the grille, use a flashlight to look at the hinge from which the plastic rod has popped out, separate this hinge from the iron locking mechanism bars, then secure the screwdriver or adapt it between the antennas and twist in the same way as in the second case, first against the clock to click, then turn on and pull out the hood. the hood is open.

Now to install the new link you need to remove the plastic guard from the top of the grille, it is attached to 6 clips, we screw in a screwdriver, get them and then pull the clip out.

For convenience, you can still remove the radiator grill yourself; to do this, after we have the clamps, pull the grill towards you to get off the latches. We remove, install the linkage, check the ignition key. everything is working.

Another small note: the hinges of the purchased rod do not rotate properly in the cylinder and lock antennas, the rod flies when the ignition key is turned, so I flip the hinges from my own rod, since they are already designed for dozens or even hundreds of hood holes.

By the way, as I said, Ford does not sell the pull rod separately, but only with the lock lock number 1355231, at the moment it costs R3,000 per name, since I ask the Exist player that I don’t even want to look. The Dominant traction is sold separately as FO13055231 and is exactly the same in appearance as the original as it only required 257 wood for all the fun, that's no sin.

How to disassemble the key

Replacing the battery in the Ford Focus 2 ignition key is the main reason for opening the key. In my photos I use a knife and a pen just to use as a pointer. And the former owner apparently used a knife to open the key and mutilated it.

To do the job, you will need a flathead screwdriver that is narrow enough to fit into the cell and has a blunt end. Insert it into the groove, press slightly inward and, in parallel, move the screwdriver straight away from you.

Do not use sharp objects to open the key; this will damage the lock.

The key itself and half of the upper case will separate from the case with the chip and battery.

And here is the tongue that we pressed down with a screwdriver and which fixes and holds together the two halves of the Ford Focus 2 ignition key (photo below, above the Ford emblem). When the halves are joined, it slides into a groove in the upper part of the second half of the case. The key capsule with a chip and battery is also divided into two halves. To do this, you need to squeeze one tab at a time from the sides of the capsule.

Remote control with retractable key

In this example, the battery is located immediately under the key fob cover, and there is no need to disassemble the key, just remove the cover.

Remove the key from the niche by moving it to the working position by pressing the lock button.

Using the flat blade of a screwdriver, press the lid clamp to release it.

Next, use a tool to pry the cover that has come away from the groove and remove it.

Turn the remote control upside down and remove the battery.

Replace the battery with a new one, “+” up. Close the lid and press it against the body to secure the latches, check the functionality of the key fob.

Remote control with lockable key shank

With this option, it is necessary to disassemble the key fob body into two halves to gain access to the battery.

Press the 2 buttons on the edges of the case to release the latches. Pry the lid with a thin knife blade and separate it from the body. Remove the key from the niche.

Insert the screwdriver with a flat blade into the key slot and, turning around its axis, separate the upper and lower parts at this point.

Use a screwdriver or knife to widen the gap around the perimeter of the key fob, disengaging the latches. Separate the two halves of the key fob.

Use a screwdriver to remove the battery from the socket. There are housing designs with an internal lid covering the battery. It should be removed using a thin knife blade.

Replace the battery with a new one. Reassemble the housing in reverse order. Press the lid and both halves to secure the latches.

Smart Ford

Ford Focus 3 here, of course, is boldly called a “smart” car. Car electronics perform many functions, control the operation of the engine, diagnose the operation of various systems and components of the car and keep a huge number of little things under control, sometimes the driver remembers this fact.

To keep your teeth straight, managing the batteries in the key case - all about the little things Ford ignition

Focus 3: This small thing is essentially huge. A huge number of drivers whose cars are equipped with electric keys or alarms are at some point faced with a situation where the battery of a key occupied by another key is discharged. In this option, you either urgently need to find a battery or a spare key fob. There is no other way to open and start the machine. In this context, a timely reminder to change the battery does not seem like a small thing.

Ford Focus 3 When a weak battery is detected, the key is busy, very energetically reminds you to replace it. Otherwise, the car simply won’t budge.

Battery Replacement

The owner of a Ford Focus 3 gets most of the information he needs using the dashboard on the car's dashboard. So what is the design of the battery Ignition key . If, when turning on the ignition, the driver detects on the monitor that the battery is low and needs to be replaced, this should be taken as action control.

When you buy the latest CR2032 coin cell battery, you should start replacing it immediately. For this:

  • Press the buttons along the edges of the key closer to the iron part.
  • Gently pry out the screwdriver, knife, or nail without releasing it.
  • Divide the plastic case into two parts.
  • Remove the dead battery and replace it with a new one.

To assemble the key, connect the halves of the key and lock it. Replacing the ignition key battery in a Ford Focus doesn't require you to get extremely close to the vehicle, and we still have our customer to work with.

Flip key repair

The flip key

Ford Focus 3 inflammation is one of the most popular diseases among many car owners. From time to time he begins to marvel at his throwing times. If you are simultaneously trying to help the key, please let us know how the correct installation will be done, that the device will not work properly and will remove it altogether. An analysis of reviews from motorists and repairmen shows that most owners of the third generation Ford Focus are faced with this problem. And today the main part of the premise is a small iron fragment that falls into the mechanism.

In fact, searching for a fragment is the correct sound in most cases. However, from time to time it gets stuck in the mechanism, as it is called, and produces no sound between the board and the plastic case.

How the keychain works and how it works

The commands that are issued through this element are calculated and actuated by the on-board electrical control system. The key fob includes the following components:

  • Body organ made of plastic;
  • Seat for ignition key;
  • Battery in the remote control for power supply;
  • Control chip;
  • Element for sending a signal to automotive electronics;
  • Fixation of the body.

When the car is parked or short-term stops are made, the owner uses the key fob to turn on the anti-theft system and lock the vehicle doors. If unauthorized access attempts occur after this, the vehicle will activate a noise and light alarm.

When the driver presses the lock control key, this will give the ECU a special radio signal, which will be received and translated into the appropriate commands - a specific device that decrypts and recognizes the signals is responsible for this.

The key fob has its own program and a unique signal, that is, if you take two Ford Focus key fobs and press the button, the protection is deactivated only on a specific car, whose electronic unit is programmatically combined with the remote control.

Types of keys used

If you have problems with the ignition, first you should make sure that the key works and the batteries are not dead.

Although it is logical to start by determining whether there is at least any battery in your ignition key. You can understand this by what key is used for your car. There are several varieties:

  • Standard or classic. There is no chip or microchip here. To the question of whether such an ignition key has at least one battery, you can confidently answer no. In fact, these are ordinary metal blanks with a certain cutting.
  • Service with a rotating mechanism. More advanced option. There is a transponder chip here. At the same time, the functionality is limited only to manual opening of car locks. Not designed for remote work. Usually there is no battery.
  • With radio-electronic transmitter and rotary mechanism. The key body contains a transponder and a microcircuit. They allow you to control the locks remotely. The battery is present.
  • With release mechanism. It may be without a battery or with it.
  • Smart key. Relevant for cars where there is no standard ignition switch, but a Start-Stop button is used. A battery is required.

Also, keys can be divided into main and spare. The second is usually a copy of the first or a slightly simplified version of it.
