How to turn off the alarm
There are two main ways to turn off the Sheriff alarm - without a key fob or using a transmitter. The second option is standard and does not involve any steps, and the first is used as an emergency option.
From keychain
The easiest way to disarm the Sheriff alarm is to use the remote control. Press and release the button in the open lock. The following happens:
- the LED goes out;
- side lights flash twice;
- the siren gives two confirmation signals.
If automatic re-arming is active, after 20 seconds the Sheriff will re-arm. To deactivate it, you need to open a door. If, after automatically arming the alarm, you press the button with the open lock, the audible alarm will turn off. To disarm the car, you need to press the mentioned button again.
There is also a “silent” method that allows you to turn off the Sheriff alarm. To do this, press the key with the open lock for 1.5 seconds or more. The system disarms the car without making a sound.
Without key fob
There is often a question on the Internet about whether it is possible to turn off the Sheriff alarm system using the antenna and not use the remote control. Most often, this is due to the fact that the alarm does not respond to the key fob. This is only possible using the Valet button, which allows you to cancel the operation of the system’s security. But this implies an emergency shutdown (we’ll look at it below). This option may be required if the main remote control 5btx1010lcd, tx35pro does not work or other types of car alarm key fobs are damaged.
Jack mode
To disable any security function of the alarm system, the valet mode is used - a service type mode. You can turn it on by pressing the Valet switch. It is used in those rare cases when it is necessary to leave the vehicle in a car service center or at a service station. The possibility of controlling certain service capabilities may remain: connect “Panic”, unlock the doorways of the vehicle remotely.
The instructions that come with the installed security alarm system indicate the process for connecting or disabling service modes. Let's open this section and get acquainted with it. If the required category is not available or the instructions are lost, then we try a couple of ordinary manipulations. Each of the signal systems is individual in its characteristics, despite this, certain modes are identical; turning off valet without using instructions will just take much more time.
When getting into the vehicle, turn on the ignition for a couple of seconds, then turn it off. To successfully complete the process, we do this as quickly as possible, otherwise everything will have to be repeated again.
We find the valet switch button in our own vehicle. Thanks to the car's instructions, you can easily find its location. It is mainly located on the signal receiver, under the steering block area or next to the gas pedal. Press the valet button once for a couple of seconds, release it, and after connecting the ignition, wait approximately 12 seconds. All manipulations are performed if the security system is turned off.
The security alarm will send several short beeps, the LED (light emitting diode) of the system will turn off twice, and the parking lights may flash a couple of times. Service mode is turned off, the car alarm can operate normally.
Let's see if the control panel is in working condition, before turning off the valet mode, see if there is a necessary button. If you could not find the push-button switch, that is, your security system has a completely different designation. For advice, you should contact the service center where the alarm system was installed for your vehicle.
You can remotely turn off the valet mode using the control panel. You must turn the ignition off and on while you are in the vehicle. We press two buttons on the control panel at the same time: the button where the speaker image is located, and the button with the open lock. After three seconds, lower the button. The speaker may emit a couple of beeps, large lights will turn on, and the car alarm system LED will turn off.
If the alarm system of your vehicle cannot respond to turning off the valet mode from the remote control, then we try to take out the battery and put them in after a certain period of time - about two minutes. We check if there is a connection between the key fob and the main unit. When the power is connected, all possible icons should appear on the display.
During a service type power outage, the valet mode can be retained, which you can use while servicing your vehicle. When you turn on the service mode in anti-theft systems, the LED indicator will light up all the time. The siren can give a warning signal when the ignition is turned off. Using the push-button mode, the valet is also used to disable the security mode, immo, if the remote control is lost or out of order.

Emergency shutdown
If the transmitter fails or is damaged, an emergency shutdown of the Sheriff alarm may be required. Depending on the model, this work can be done in two ways - using the Valet button or using a special code. Let's give an example for the Sheriff ZX 950 security system.
First, let's figure out how to turn off the Sheriff alarm using Valet. Take the following steps:
- Open the car doors.
- Ignore the siren and insert the key into the ignition.
- Turn on the ignition.
- In a 10-second period of time, press the Valet button.
This combination allows you to disable the Sheriff alarm without a key fob, but the security system itself is in the Valet mode of the same name.
The second method is to disarm using a personal code (if programmed). It consists of two numbers from “1” to “9”. If you are familiar with these symbols, please study the following instructions for emergency disabling the Sheriff alarm. Take the following steps:
- Open the doors with the key. At the same time, the device is activated, the side lights begin to flash and the sound plays.
- Turn on, turn off, and then turn on the ignition again.
- In a 10-second period of time, click on Jack the number of times that corresponds to the first digit.
- Turn off and turn on the ignition again.
- In a 10-second period, click on Jack the number of times that corresponds to the second digit.
- Turn off and turn on the ignition.
After this, you can start, turn on autostart and use the car. Knowing how to turn off the Sheriff alarm using the Valet button, you can return the car to operation at any time in the event of damage to the key fob or malfunction of the security system. Or even reset the settings to factory settings. If you did not enter a code, use the default combination “11”. Please note that if you enter information incorrectly three times, the device stops accepting the driver’s commands within a few minutes. You need to pause and then try to turn off the system again.
Popular general ways to disable alarms
There are universal methods for turning off a broken alarm - using a key fob, pressing the emergency button, entering a code and others. If possible, before carrying out work, it is recommended to look through the documentation for the car alarm, as it may contain useful information about emergency manual shutdown.
Note! If the documentation is lost, you can try to find a copy of the document on the Internet on the manufacturer’s official website.
Disabling without key fob
To turn off the alarm in an emergency, de-energize the vehicle battery:
- The driver opens the hood, finds the battery and disconnects the negative terminal. Electric current is no longer supplied to the system, so the siren and alarm are turned off.
- However, de-energizing has a number of disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that when there is no power, the car turns off completely, so the driver will not be able to start it by turning the ignition key.
- In addition, some alarm systems are equipped with an additional battery, thanks to which the alarm will work even after the car’s battery is disconnected.
On some cars, you can disable auto racing using the on-board menu. To do this, you need to look at the instructions and find information about turning off the alarm. A method often used is to turn it off by pressing the speaker and lock buttons simultaneously for 20 seconds. If this does not give any result, then you can use emergency shutdown methods - using the Valet button, entering a code or turning off the power.
Jack button
Many modern alarms are equipped with an emergency stop button - the so-called “Valet”. It is compact in size and can be located in different places. When installing the signaling through a car repair button, it is usually located in the safety block or to the left of the torpedo. With manual installation, drivers often place it in the glove compartment, under the instrument panel, next to the front seat, and so on. To turn off the car alarm via “Valet”, hold it down for 15 seconds - after that a signal will sound that the car alarm is disabled.
Coded shutdown
To protect your car from theft, you can install a security PIN code on many modern alarms. The PIN function can be checked using the key fob - if it is activated, the word PIN will be displayed on the left or bottom of the screen. The PIN code consists of two, three or four digits, and it is entered through the “Valet” button. To enter, you need to start the engine, press Jack on the first digit of the code, turn off the engine, then start it again, press Jack on the second digit of the code, and so on.
If all numbers are entered correctly, the alarm will turn off and you will hear a beep. For example, if you were given code 512, blocking the signaling will look like this:
- We carry out an external inspection and find the emergency button. Turn off the engine if it is on.
- We activate the engine and after 5 seconds press Jack 5 times, then turn off the engine.
- After a couple of seconds, start the engine, wait 5 seconds, press Jack 1 time, turn off the engine.
- We wait a little, start the engine, wait 5 seconds and press Jack 2 times.
- If you did everything correctly, you will hear a beep and the alarm will be turned off.
Power off
The alarm is connected to the vehicle using an auxiliary control unit, to which many wires are connected. If you remove all the wires and turn off the power, the alarm will automatically turn off, which can be used if it breaks down. Algorithm of actions:
- Inside the cabin, find the alarm control unit. It is usually installed under the torpedo on the right or left side. The device looks like a box with many wires connected to it.
- Wear thick gloves or turn off the power to the vehicle by removing the negative terminal of the battery. Then remove all the wires from the unit, restore the power - after this the machine will work without a signal.
In some cars, the engine locks when the alarm unit is turned off, so it will be impossible to start the car. How to get around this problem - read below.
How to turn it off completely
If it is impossible to restore the operation of the device, the question arises of how to completely disable the Sheriff alarm on the car. In this case, you will need to dismantle the device. The algorithm of actions is as follows:
- Prepare for work and decide on the composition. The device consists of a main unit, a Jack button, a relay and an antenna. All these elements must be removed.
- Deactivate the Sheriff alarm using the Valet button. How to do this correctly is discussed above.
- Locate the main unit, which may be located under the hood or behind the dashboard.
- Disconnect the battery.
- Disconnect the wires that go from the main unit to different elements - doors, hood, ignition switch and others.
- Try starting the car. If it doesn't start, other blockages may be occurring. Explore the car and disable them. Most often they do not affect the starter or fuel pump.
- Remove the button to turn off the security device, which is located inside the cabin.
- Remove the shock sensor, which is most often mounted under the handbrake.
- Discard the wires from the siren and remove the sound device itself, if it was installed separately from the Sheriff alarm system.
In this way, you can completely deactivate the system and think about installing a newer device.
What does the button look like?
To determine as accurately as possible what the Valet service key looks like, you need to look at the operating instructions.
The manual for any security system, including Alligator and Sheriff, contains images of all components included in the delivery kit. Depending on the manufacturer, this element may have a different shape and color of the insulating layer of the cable that powers it.
Description of the main appearance features that allow the consumer to recognize and detect the Jack key:
- The button is small in size, as a rule, no more than 1.2-1.5 cm.
- There are two wires connected to the key - power and ground. The color of the conductors may match the color of the standard cables. Experienced installers of anti-theft systems specifically change the wire in order to ensure hidden installation of the part.
- On Sheriff alarms and other models, the button itself is located in the center of the black plastic case. It can be made in the form of a circle or square with rounded ends.

How to unlock the alarm
Regarding the question of how to unlock the Sheriff alarm, here you can use one of the methods discussed above. To do this, use the button on the key fob or the Valet key for emergency shutdown. The main thing is that the system works properly. Otherwise, problems often arise when doors do not open (or close) using the remote control, but all other options work properly.
In the comments, tell us if you had to deactivate the security device, and if you were able to quickly turn off the Sheriff alarm.
Dismantling Guide
It is necessary to remove the old alarm from the car when installing a new one. Removing the main car alarm unit may be necessary when updating the software or updating its settings so that it meets the security requirements of modern security systems. Sometimes it is necessary to dismantle parts of the anti-theft system for repair and replacement (video author - SpetsAvtoSystems).
Modern security systems reliably protect cars from theft and entry; they have an increased degree of protection against code reading and interception.
Tools and materials
It is difficult to dismantle the alarm system, since its elements are hidden as far as possible so that they are invisible. Many owners do not know where the car alarm is installed, so it is better to entrust the dismantling to specialists.
If you decide to dismantle the anti-theft system yourself, you will need a small set of tools:
- screwdriver;
- multimeter;
- side cutters;
- insulating tape.
In addition to tools, dismantling work will require patience.
Disabling the alarm without a key fob
Stages
Dismantling the anti-theft system consists of the following steps:
- First of all, you should turn off the power to the car by removing the negative terminal from the car battery.
- First you need to find the LED on the dashboard. A wire goes from it to the control unit. It is necessary to disconnect the connector with wires.
- Now you can disconnect the standard wiring from the electrical power system, and you also need to remove the immobilizer.
- The electrical circuit of the anti-theft system is connected to the turn signals, dimensions, trunk, doors, . When removing each element, it must be correctly disconnected from the car alarm.
- Next, you need to remove the shock and internal volume sensors, which are usually located under the handbrake lever.
- You should be very careful when disconnecting the contacts on the motor. Modern security alarms are equipped with locking mechanisms for the starter, fuel pump and ignition system.
- After disconnecting the contacts, you need to find and dismantle the Valet service button, as well as the siren, which is located in the engine compartment. After removing the fasteners, you need to remove the wiring coming from the interior.
- Now you can try to start the engine. If the alarm was correctly removed, the engine will start without problems.
Removing an old car alarm
If the anti-theft system is dismantled on your own, then the following consequences are possible if dismantling is incorrect:
- the integrity of the electrical wiring is compromised;
- malfunctions of electrical equipment;
- the decorative trim of the interior is damaged;
- engine starting is blocked for no reason;
- the removed element is damaged and can be reused;
- damage, the elimination of which can be costly.
The key fob does not respond: reasons
- The battery is low;
- The battery has moved from its place;
- The buttons on the key fob are stuck.
In these cases, it is enough to check the key fob itself for mechanical damage. If you notice a faint glow on your dashboard, you can be sure that it is your battery that is dead. It’s good to always have a spare battery with you, but if you don’t have it, then you need to run to the nearest store for one.
Areas that had strong external radiation also interfere with the operation of the system. These could be nearby objects such as:
- Regime enterprises;
- Airport;
- Parking lots with a large number of cars;
- Cash collection vehicles;
- Reinforced concrete structures;
- Jammer type devices.
We must try to avoid proximity to such a zone. If you had to stop right there, then bring the key fob close to the system receiver and press the button. If it doesn’t work, tow the car two or three hundred meters away from the dangerous territory.
If this does not help, try reprogramming the transmitter codes. If the synchronization of the remote control with the car unit is out of sync, introducing a new program into the key fob channels can help. The Sheriff system has several physical wire lines that are functionally overwritten. To do this, it is best to refer to the repair and operation manual for the security alarm “Manually arming the system” or “Manually disabling the security system”.
If the system unit does not respond to anything, then most likely the software has disappeared. In this case, it needs to be reflashed, which can be done by specialized service companies for installing security systems.
You can use the Valet switch to turn off the beep. Valet is designed for programming the security system and its emergency shutdown. If you don't know where it is installed, it will be very difficult to find. Know that you will have to look for the Valet button while the siren is wailing. Open the car door with the key, remove the terminal from the battery so that the alarm sound stops, and continue to calmly search for the magic Valet switch.
If you don't know where Jack is, the siren will be heard throughout the area. It is better if you ask the former owner of the vehicle or the workers installing the security product in advance about the whereabouts of Valet. Turn on the ignition and press the button. The engine will be unlocked and the alarm will be disarmed. Valet has a code. As a rule, it can consist of the numbers two ones or three ones, or maybe one, two, three.
Composition of modern security systems
To eliminate breakdowns that occur in the car security system, you need to know what is included. And the systems consist of:
- Anti-theft system;
- Immobilizer, which prevents car theft by immobilizing it;
- Alert systems;
- Sensors;
- Blockers;
- Castles.
The brain of the car security system is the immobilizer. When you press the key fob, signals are sent to the car, by which the car recognizes its owner.
