Pinout and where is the diagnostic connector for VAZ-2112

Diagnostics of modern car models is carried out using a special diagnostic connector. It connects to a computer, which analyzes the current state of the vehicle, determines the malfunction and indicates it. If you have the appropriate equipment, you can look for breakdowns even at home. However, not all VAZ-2112 owners can find the diagnostic connector right away. Today we’ll talk about its location on the classic panel and on the Europanel. In which part of the car should I look for the required socket?

When is diagnosis necessary?

Computer diagnostics involves reading error codes, erasing them and correcting them. For this, various diagnostic adapters and systems are used. These include multifunctional stands, OBD connectors, portable readers and other devices. Thanks to diagnostic equipment and software, the slightest malfunctions in the vehicle’s control system and its main components are detected.

Using diagnostic systems, you can change parameters to increase the power characteristics of the machine. If a new car model comes out, you can reprogram the functions for the new equipment.

Computer diagnostics are usually carried out in the following cases:

  • indicators on the dashboard light up, signaling any malfunctions;
  • the driver has suspicions of a malfunction of any components or systems;
  • check the condition of a used car before purchasing;
  • Experts recommend diagnostics at least once a year.

Diagnostics using electronic equipment makes it possible to obtain real information about the technical condition of the car.

Why is diagnostics needed?

Let's first figure out why we need to diagnose faults and whether this is required specifically for your car.

The main advantage of diagnostics is the ability to save money, time and modern nerves. If the car begins to behave inappropriately, some extraneous sounds appear, the stable operation of the engine is disrupted, then there are two options:

  1. To study all systems manually by dismantling and testing would waste a lot of time and nerves. The probability of finding the cause of the breakdown is far from 100%!
  2. Conduct computer diagnostics yourself by connecting a special adapter or cable to the computer. The program will scan the car and be able to issue the appropriate error codes. After studying our material with error codes, you can easily find the reason why the car began to behave abnormally.

Is it worth going to a service station?

The quality of diagnostics at a service station is often not much different from an independent check. Having an adapter and cable to connect the device allows you to deal with the problems of your own car without outside interference.

By contacting a service station, they can diagnose you with the same equipment, but they will only ask you for a decent amount of money. If you do not control the progress of the check yourself, technicians may claim to have found other errors that in reality do not exist.

The result of visiting a dubious service station for diagnostic purposes can be serious financial costs and a long absence of the car at your disposal.

Example of an adapter with cable

The only option when it is worth contacting a car service center is the lack of diagnostic equipment and the presence of good friends among car mechanics.

Instructions for performing diagnostics

To diagnose a VAZ, a computer or diagnostic equipment is connected using a diagnostic connector.

All broadcast codes are read by the scanner. They are stored in the controller’s memory until its power is turned off. Using special software, specialists decipher the codes and determine what malfunctions and failures exist in the system.

The diagnostic procedure consists of several stages:

  1. Suspension diagnostics. This procedure is performed if uneven tire wear, knocking or humming is detected when driving at a constant speed, making sharp turns, or on an uneven road. And also in case of premature activation of the ABC, increased free play of the steering wheel.
  2. Engine check. The power engine should be diagnosed if it runs intermittently, takes a long time to heat up, is difficult to start, as well as with increased fuel consumption, loss of power, the appearance of extraneous noise, or a decrease or increase in idle speed. During diagnostics, the electrical supply and ignition system are checked, and the pressure in the cylinders is measured (the author of the video is Pavel Master).

An automatic transmission is diagnosed in the following cases:

  • no gear is engaged;
  • When changing gears, noises, jerking, and slipping appear;
  • increased fuel consumption;
  • Oil leak detected.

During diagnostics, the scanner reads error codes of the automatic transmission control system, evaluates the readings of the throttle position and cooling system temperature sensors, as well as the position of the automatic transmission selector.

First of all, diagnostics are performed using a scanner. The scanner readings are deciphered and conclusions are drawn about problems in the system. At the second stage, analog testing is carried out - wiring, contacts, and batteries are checked. Next, an online check is carried out. The screen displays indicators of sensors, fuel injection, etc. Then the data obtained during posting is analyzed. At the last stage, the error codes stored in the controller’s memory are erased. After this, reinitialization is necessary.

Pinout

If self-diagnosis is carried out, then you need to know the lining of the block. Pinout is the purpose of the contacts that are located on the block. Below is the OBD pinout.

Pinout of OBD II device for VAZ

“A” is the contact responsible for connecting the ground; “B” is the contact that is necessary to connect the L-Line; “M” is a contact that is used to connect K-Line; “G” - contact responsible for controlling the fuel pump; “H” - contact for +12V power supply.

You can diagnose your car yourself by connecting a scanner or other diagnostic equipment to the diagnostic connector. This will save time and money on visiting a car service center.

The first message on the screen of diagnostic equipment or a computer that causes panic among beginners is usually something like “No connection”, “No controller response” or something similar, but no less intriguing. The motor tester, for example, begins to offer options - from unconnected power to a hardware malfunction of the adapter. It’s good if the car with the immobilizer was the first to arrive for diagnostics and you are sure that everything is in order with the adapter. The reason for the lack of communication on cars without immo is trivial and is possible only in the domestic auto industry - a break in the diagnostic line running from the diagnostic connector to the ECU. The immobilizer uses K-Line to communicate with the ECU and is included in the diagnostic line break. If the immobilizer is not installed, then the diagnostic line hangs in the air and there is no connection with the computer. Apparently there was supposed to be a plug in this place, but... To restore communication, you simply need to install a jumper between pins 9-1 and 18 of the immobilizer connector (or install an immobilizer) as shown in the figure. In practice, to preserve the functions of smooth dimming of light, and simply to scare away pioneers, these two wires are cut and spliced, leaving the immo in the connector.

Location of diagnostic pads

VOLGA - under the hood, on the wall of the engine compartment, on the passenger side VAZ 2110 - to the right of the driver, next to the steering column of the VAZ 2109 Low panel - on the shelf under the glove compartment, next to the VAZ 2109 ECU High panel - behind the center console. VAZ 2108-2115 “Europanel” - on the dashboard, closed with a hatch. Chevrolet Niva - OBD-II, near the ignition switch. partially covered by the steering cover. VAZ 11183 “Kalina” - Under the niche for small items next to the gearshift knob. VAZ 21126 Priora - behind the glove compartment.

Chevrolet Niva - the control unit is located in the area of the front passenger's feet. Access to the harness is only possible with the glove box removed; to remove the unit, you need to dismantle the glove box (“glove box”) and unscrew the fuses from the unit. To rewrite, the unit does not need to be unscrewed if there is a cable of sufficient length.

VAZ 2106i - The control unit is located in the place of the shelf under the glove compartment, where the ECU fuses, diagnostic block and PTF relay are located. All this is closed in a purely domestic way, with a plastic shield with huge gaps. To connect the diagnostics, the shield will have to be unscrewed, because despite its “flexibility”, it is not possible to insert the diagnostic connector.

Tell me where the diagnostic connector for 2112 is located

Recently the Check Engine light came on briefly, I read an opinion that you can read the error code by connecting two legs in this connector, but I just can’t find where this connector is located in my car. Help, who knows.
