For stable operation of the power unit, it is customary to install Japanese NGK VAZ 2106 spark plugs on classic Zhiguli models, as well as high-quality products from other foreign parts of the A17 series, which, as a rule, are unreliable in operation and have a short service life. But to install imported spark plugs, you need to know which ones are suitable for the “six” in terms of parameters.
Spark plugs for VAZ 2106, 2107, 2108 and 2109 – which ones to install?
The technical characteristics of spark plugs for engines of cars 2106/2107/2108/2109 differed from the fuel supply system to the combustion chamber. On VAZ 2106 and 2107 with carburetors and a contact ignition system, spark plugs with article number 21010-3707010-86 are provided from the factory. For carburetor 2106/2107/2108/2109 but with contactless ignition, spark plugs with article numbers 2108-3707010-86 or 21080-3707010-86 were installed. But in fact it is the same spare part. They are interchangeable. But on injection cars of this series, the spark plugs were somewhat different.
With injection engines on VAZ 2107, 2108 and 2109, spark plugs with article numbers 21110-3707010-86, 21110-3707010-00 or 2111-3707010 were installed. The main difference between spark plugs on injection and carburetor engines is the gap size. Otherwise, all these are ordinary nickel single-pin spark plugs with a heat rating of 17 and a tightening torque of 22 Nm.
The rating of spark plugs on PartReview for VAZ (Lada) 2108/2109 says the following, owners buy the following brands BRISK, Finwhale, Champion and Denso.

Spark plug gaps: what should they be and what do they affect?
If the engine begins to run intermittently, jerking is noticeable when accelerating, and problems with idling are observed, many motorists tend to blame the electronic control unit (ECU), carburetor, breaker-distributor, and any other components of the ignition system. Meanwhile, the cause of all these problems can be candles - the simplest-looking devices for igniting the working mixture.
In fully working spark plugs, there is only one variable parameter: the gap between the electrodes. How does a car react if the spark plugs are not adjusted correctly?
The first step is to check the spark plugs
An internal combustion engine (ICE) is a complex unit, the stable operation of which depends on the condition of all its components. If it functions intermittently, then an experienced driver will definitely start looking for the reasons by checking and assessing the condition of the spark plugs.
There are only four types of probable cases of spark plug malfunction (not counting possible mechanical defects), namely:
- Electrical breakdown of a ceramic insulator.
- Open circuit due to destruction of the central electrode.
- Insufficient or too large gap between electrodes.
- The presence of slag deposits that impede the passage of a spark.
For example, when one of the spark plugs completely fails, the four-cylinder engine suffers. Almost any motorist can recognize such a problem by ear. If the problem is somewhat different - unsystematic in nature, then determining the cause is more difficult. However, the first step in engine diagnostics should be to check the size of the gaps between the spark plug electrodes. The reasons for this may be:
- Noticeable loss of power.
- The car moves jerkily when accelerating.
- Interruptions are heard when the engine is running.
- It floats and the idle speed is not adjustable.
To check the size of the gap between the electrodes, a simple tool is used - a portable set of measuring probes. Such a device should be in the toolkit of every car owner.
What is the normal gap size
The distance between the spark plug electrodes influences the formation and passage of a spark that ignites the working mixture prepared by the engine power supply system. The dependence of the quality of the spark on the size of the gaps in the spark plugs arises from the fact that the passage of the discharge is the result of an electrical breakdown of the air layer located between the electrodes.
If the electrodes are too close, a smaller potential difference is needed to form a spark. If the gap is too large, breakdown of the dielectric (air) may not occur at all. The standard limits that must be adhered to when adjusting spark plugs depend on the type of engine and the design of the ignition system:
- For carburetor engines with a distributor-distributor: 0.5-0.6 mm.
- Carburetor with electronic ignition control: 0.7-0.8 mm.
- Engines with injection injection: 1.0-1.3 mm.
Any deviations from the specified norm are considered insufficient or excessive distances between the electrodes. The greater this discrepancy, the more problems will arise in the operation of the engine.
Types of motors affected by incorrectly set gap
The most critical consequences of insufficient or excessively large distances between the electrodes of the spark plugs appear on carburetor engines. In contrast to electronic ignition systems, which are capable of reacting to some extent to the operation of spark plugs and compensating for problems that arise by changing the quality of the working mixture. The carburetor practically does not have such capabilities.
VAZ spark plugs - how to choose, the best
Tips on how to choose spark plugs for VAZ cars: 9 popular models of spark plugs, nuances of choice. Video about installing spark plugs.
When servicing cars with gasoline engines, special attention should be paid to the correct selection of spark plugs. If you buy an incompatible part, this can cause failure of the power plant, lead to increased fuel consumption and a number of other troubles. Let's consider the main criteria for choosing spark plugs when servicing a vehicle yourself. Despite the simple design, such a component is a high-tech development with precise geometric shapes and dimensions.
How to check the ignition coil?
Short circuit testing is performed in the following stages:
- visual inspection;
- checking for voltage;
- measuring resistance using an ohmmeter;
- checking for spark.
A visual inspection reveals mechanical damage to the surface, the presence of oil stains, mud deposits, and the reliability of connections and electrical contacts. To check the voltage supply to the unit, you need to turn on the ignition and measure the voltage between terminal “B” and ground with a voltmeter. It should be 12 V. If there is no voltage, then the problem is in the ignition switch.
To check the windings, the multimeter must be set to resistance measurement mode. To check, one multimeter probe is connected to the output of both windings, the second probe is connected to the output of the primary winding. In this case, the device will show the resistance of the primary winding (video author - altevaa TV).
By connecting one tester probe to the terminal of the primary winding, and the second to the central terminal of the short circuit, you can measure the total resistance of both windings. Using this method, you can also obtain the resistance value of the secondary winding.
When measuring resistance on the windings, the readings must correspond to the following values:
- for the primary winding - 3-3.5 kOhm;
- for the secondary winding - 5-9 kOhm.
If the values differ from those given above, the unit is faulty and requires repair. A sign of a short circuit fault is the presence of a short to ground.
Do not touch the high voltage wire to the motor housing, as this will lead to breakdown of the short-circuit winding and disable it.
In VAZ 2106 cars with an injection engine there is no distributor-breaker; two short circuits are used, which are located on the cylinder head cover. The voltage in the network is checked by a special controller. A common cause of short circuit malfunction is overheating or interturn short circuit of the windings. This occurs if the engine is operated with excessive spark plug gaps or if there is no contact in the connections.
Typical unit malfunctions and ways to eliminate them
A common cause of component failure is faulty high-voltage wires and spark plugs. The short circuit often fails if the ignition is turned on for a long time and the engine is not running. At elevated temperatures, the insulating material of the windings dries out and crumbles. This causes a short circuit. The short circuit becomes unusable and must be replaced.
A possible reason for a non-working short circuit may be poor contact with the electrical wiring. In this case, you need to tighten the contacts and clean the terminals from oxidation.
The cause of the malfunction is often a weak spark. In this case, a spark cannot penetrate a gap exceeding a distance of more than 5 mm. A working unit should have a gap of about 15 mm. Otherwise, the short circuit is faulty and needs to be replaced.
What are the dangers of choosing the wrong candles?
There is a wide range of spark plugs on the automotive spare parts market, which causes some inconvenience for car owners when selecting the appropriate model. The main difficulties are related to the fact that each engine is designed for a specific modification of spark plugs. When installing incompatible options, the following problems may occur:
Other types of malfunctions that negatively affect the operating comfort of the vehicle cannot be excluded.
Basic tips for choosing spark plugs for VAZ
Representatives of the AvtoVAZ automaker advise choosing spark plugs taking into account the following features:
Using the tips listed above, you can choose a truly high-quality part, reducing the frequency of vehicle maintenance.
The list contains 9 modifications of spark plugs that are suitable for VAZ cars. The selected models are distinguished by good build quality and trouble-free operation. This is the best there is on the market.
The undisputed leader of the rating is the NGK B9Eg-3530 model, which is supplied to AvtoVAZ enterprises as a standard part for cars.
The product has nickel coating on the electrodes, which prevents the appearance of scale and is responsible for the correct firing of the spark. This saves fuel and prevents catalyst wear. The advantages of the NGK B9Eg-3530 spark plug include:
No deficiencies were identified during testing of NGK B9Eg-3530 spark plugs. The owners claim that the part copes with its tasks efficiently and lasts as long as possible.
Denso PK20PR-P8 for VAZ
The next line on the list is the Japanese product Denso PK20PR-P8. This kit is well assembled and has a long service life. The presence of plastic solders on the electrodes contributes to the correct spark penetration and the resistance of the part to corrosion or mechanical stress.
The model is in demand due to the optimal price-quality ratio, as well as its prevalence on the market. The negative aspects are associated with the difficulties of choosing the appropriate series due to the wide range in the company’s model range.
Good spark plugs Brisk Extra Dr15Tc-1
Owners of Lada Kalina cars and other relatively new AvtoVAZ models speak positively about Brisk Extra Dr15Tc-1 spark plugs. The release has a unique design of working elements, has 3 electrodes and guarantees the elimination of misfire problems even with old batteries or when using low-quality fuel.
However, the Brisk Extra Dr15Tc-1 spark plug is not suitable for all VAZ models.
Bosch Platinum WR7DP
The product of the German company Bosch has earned respect from car owners due to its compatibility with the latest car models from VAZ. The modification with platinum coating ensures correct operation of the system for 60 thousand km, which is a record figure in comparison with standard editions.
The presence of a thin core with a proper fit to the insulator contributes to the timely transfer of excess thermal energy and stabilization of engine behavior at peak speeds. Such features are highly valued by fans of high-speed driving or driving in poor terrain.
Selection options
Which spark plugs are best for VAZ?
To select good SZ, you must be guided by the following criteria:
- The first parameter to consider when purchasing is the heat rating. It should be noted that this parameter is conditional and not universal, so it must be selected in accordance with the model of a particular motor. This number shows the pressure level in the internal combustion engine cylinder at which glow ignition occurs. The use of SZ with a higher heat number is allowed, but is not prohibited if it is lower.
- Another parameter is the possibility of self-cleaning. Unfortunately, this parameter can only be accurately verified in practice, since all SZ manufacturers promise consumers a high level of self-cleaning. If this indicator is really high, then carbon deposits will not form on the SZ, which is especially important for their optimal operation.
- When buying spark plugs from a VAZ, you also need to take into account their gap. Each manufacturer sets the appropriate gap for individual product lines. If we are talking about domestically produced cars, then in this case this gap on the VAZ spark plugs should be 0.5-0.7 mm.
- Traditional SZ are equipped with two electrodes - one central and one side, but not so long ago global manufacturers began producing devices with 3 and 4 electrodes. These electrodes cannot produce multiple sparks - their purpose is to provide more consistent sparking. Accordingly, the use of such SZ contributes to more stable operation of the power unit due to improved ignition procedures.
- Before purchasing SZ, carefully inspect them for mechanical damage. If you see that there are cracks on the device’s body, then it is better to refuse to purchase such SZ. Also, before installation, check that the gap is the correct size.
- To diagnose purchased SZ, you can install them in a pressure chamber, of course, if you have such an opportunity, then adjust the pressure in it to about 10 kg/cm2, and the current should be connected with a value of 22 kV. As a result, a spark should begin to form. If the spark appears intermittently, this indicates that the SZ is not working, but if the sparking is continuous, then the devices can be purchased (the author of the video is Nail Poroshin).

On the VAZ 2106 you can install coils from the following manufacturers:
Usually, VAZ 2106 owners, when purchasing, look for powerful coils at a low price, since the power characteristics of the engine directly depend on the number of turns of the winding.
Which spark plugs for VAZ are better to choose?
There are a large number of different modifications of the part, which complicates life for motorists. The problem is that each motor is designed for a specific type of spark plug. If you supply the wrong part, a number of negative consequences can arise.
Also, depending on the inconsistencies present, other malfunctions may “pop up” that reduce the comfort of using the car.
What to look for when choosing.
Specialists from the AvtoVAZ plant recommend selecting spark plugs according to a number of parameters.
By adhering to the specified parameters, a car enthusiast can buy a fairly high-quality product, while saving on the frequency of car servicing and repairs.
LADA spark plugs: top 10 options
The rating contains 10 modifications of spark plugs, without division into specific car models.
10th place: ZZ A17 DVRM
The list of the best offers opens with an effective model that is in demand among a large number of buyers. Such prevalence is ensured by the stable quality of products. In the original packaging it is impossible to find a defective part or a spark plug with a broken gap. A significant advantage of the products is the ability to work actively even when the voltage drops to 6V in the on-board network. Similar spark plugs in the VAZ 2107 are often found due to their moderate cost.
The indicators are overshadowed by bad statistics - as of 2020, 35% of the kits on the market are fakes, which forces motorists to carefully select products in stores.
9th place: TZ 17 DVRM
The next representative of the rating implies the presence of as many as three electrodes on the working part of the device. A large number of motorists install such spark plugs on a VAZ carburetor or even an injection type. Thanks to the use of advanced developments in design, the manufacturer has increased the service life of the electrode.
Pirate copies also play a role here - there are a large number of them, which makes buyers cautious about purchasing products.
8th place: DENSO W20EPR-U11
If you want to buy VAZ injector spark plugs, you can turn to the eighth position of the rating. Candles represent a compromise between high quality and moderate cost. Thanks to this symbiosis, such spark plugs are perfect for the VAZ 2106. Also, this model will be relevant for more modern versions. It uses technology to increase spark stability. The development significantly increases the service life of the part, which helps save on vehicle servicing. This also made it possible to reduce the maximum voltage drop to 6.5 V, which is less than that of Russian analogues, but thanks to stability, the spark plugs win positions.
7th place: BRISK LR15YCY-1
The next contender for the title of best is distinguished by an increased overhang of the working part. The specified spark plugs for the VAZ 2107 carburetor are ideal. The standard eight-valve engine works great with the included model.
In terms of performance parameters, the model is a confident average and can be used even on used foreign cars with similar engines. The ability to work on a dead battery has also been developed. The product is capable of igniting the mixture even at 6.2 V within the network, which is significantly better than the performance of competitors’ analogues. Buyers consider the rather high cost to be the only serious disadvantage.
6th place: NGK BPR6 ES-11
The specified spark plugs for the Lada Granta are quite suitable. The model stands out among its competitors because it is manufactured in France. European quality did not suffer even with a fairly successful attempt to reduce the cost of products. The design and appearance of the part leaves much to be desired. Here you can find an unevenly soldered electrode or a damaged manufacturer’s logo.
On the other hand, the models work excellently for a long time and do not react significantly to piston wear - the spark plugs react normally even to oil getting on the working surface. A good and stable spark breaks through even on “smoky” electrodes.
5th place: BOSCH WR7DPX
The top five is topped by a model produced in China, but the quality has not suffered. The specified spark plugs and Lada X-ray are ideal for each other. The minimum thickness of the electrode, supplemented with high-quality metal, guarantees stable operation during critical battery drawdowns, and the reinforced insulator quickly removes excess heat from the site of arc formation. These parameters guarantee excellent performance in highly loaded engines operating at constant overheating and high crankshaft speeds.

Recommendations for replacement
Before you start replacing VAZ 2106 spark plugs, you need to make sure that the gap between the electrodes in the new parts is 0.7-0.8 mm for cam ignition systems and 0.8-0.9 mm for electronic ones. The gap is measured with a flat feeler gauge; in spark plugs with several side electrodes - with a round one.
The replacement algorithm is as follows:
- Turn off the ignition and remove the high-voltage wires from the spark plugs, holding them by the tips.
- Unscrew the old parts and clean the seats with a brush.
- Screw in new spark plugs, tighten them with medium force.
- Connect the wires and start the engine.
When connecting high-voltage wires, it is important not to mix them up, so you need to follow the markings on the distributor cover.

The spark plugs of the
V-Line have advantages that apply to the entire program.
From a technological point of view, this principle is brilliantly simple - but very effective:
V-line spark plugs . As a result, the ignition spark jumps to the outer edge of the central electrode. At this place there is more fuel mixture than directly between the electrodes. And one more thing: the required ignition voltage is reduced. Thus, ignition reliability increases! Particularly in modern engines, which use a very lean fuel mixture to reduce emissions. NGK design now guarantees absolutely reliable ignition of the mixture.
1. Reliable ignition – higher degree of environmental protection.
The risk of misfires is reduced to a minimum thanks to the V-Line . This allows you to avoid such negative consequences of misfires as the release of harmful substances.
2. Reliable ignition: higher degree of protection for the catalytic converter.
The importance of ignition reliability is demonstrated, in particular, by the catalytic converter: its service life and efficiency are often unnecessarily limited by undetected misfires. V-Line spark plugs provide effective protection for the catalytic converter.
3. Safety for the driver: quality of the component supplier.
NGK spark plugs are high quality products. Proof: they are used worldwide by high-volume engine and vehicle manufacturers such as Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Renault, Saab, Toyota, VW and others.
Carburetor damage and spark plug color for VAZ 2107
Any car enthusiast knows that a gasoline engine uses spark plugs. The principle of their operation is quite simple and intuitive, but, nevertheless, many problems can disappear in them. The service life of the spark plugs is very long, it all depends on whether the carburetor or injector supplies fuel. It should be noted that replacing the spark plug on a VAZ 2107 may not lead to the expected result, due to the state of maintenance of the engine and other systems.
For the VAZ 21074 carburetor, only those models of spark plugs are suitable that are suitable for this type of injection. If the injector is installed in a car, the requirements will be slightly different. The type of ignition system is also important in determining spark plug parameters. In addition, the color of the electrode can be diagnosed with a variety of problems. To answer the question why candles are black or reddish, experience and logic will help.
Main malfunctions of the VAZ 2106 ignition system and their causes
Failures in the VAZ 2106 ignition system occur quite often. They can be caused by a variety of reasons, but their symptoms are almost always the same:
- inability to start the engine;
- unstable operation (triplication) of the engine at idle speed;
- reduction in engine power;
- increased gasoline consumption;
- appearance of detonation.
The reasons for such situations may be:
- failure of spark plugs (mechanical damage, breakdown, exhaustion of service life);
- mismatch of spark plug characteristics (incorrect gaps, incorrect heat rating) with engine requirements;
- wear of the conductor, breakdown of the insulating layer in high-voltage wires;
- burnt contacts and (or) distributor slider;
- formation of carbon deposits on the breaker contacts;
- increasing or decreasing the gap between the breaker contacts;
- breakdown of the distributor capacitor;
- short circuit (break) in the bobbin windings;
- malfunction in the group of contacts of the ignition switch.
Types of ignition systems
The very first one. contact system, which was applied to the VAZ 21074. The basis of this is a mechanical ignition distributor (distributor). The formation of a spark occurs when the contact group is closed in the body of the springboard. And only after sparks are distributed on the glass does it appear on the VAZ candles. This system is obsolete due to the presence of contacts.
Bosch is famous for its high quality products
More progressive is the non-contact ignition system, which was applied to the VAZ 21074 towards the end of the last century, when the carburetor was replaced by an injector, reliable and durable. The same spreader, only instead of a contact group. Hall sensor, which reacts to the passage of a cylindrical metal plate with slots next to it.
Read
The system is controlled by a switch that amplifies the signal from the Hall sensor and feeds it to a high-voltage coil. From the coil, through a distributor with a runner, it reaches the spark plugs, sometimes spark plugs on a VAZ 2107 for a new one.
Ignition coil device
To test this system, you will need an electrical device such as a multimeter, as well as screwdrivers with different heads and insulated pliers for working under voltage. It is necessary to observe safety precautions when working with the ignition system, because... high voltage electric current flows in the circuit. It is recommended to have rubber gloves or insulated pliers.
The schematic diagram of the VAZ 2106 ignition coil is located here. The figure shows how the ignition coil is connected in the standard version.
The ignition coil, the price of which is acceptable for most Russian motorists, has the nomenclature code 8352.12. and is an oil-filled tank with an open-type magnetic wire.
The standard ignition coil of the “six”, which is easy to buy at any specialized auto parts store, is equipped with 3 contact terminals: “B”, “K” and an output for the central high voltage wire. The ignition coil is connected in the following way: the positive wire of the battery is connected to terminal “B” through the ignition switch contact. Output “K” is connected to the output contacts of both windings of the ignition coils and the negative wire of the battery through the switch.
The high voltage output is connected to another contact of the secondary winding and a high voltage wire contact leading to the breaker distribution element, which, with the rotational movement of the slider, distributes the high voltage current to the spark plugs.
When to change spark plugs, which ones to install
If you look at the recommendations of official publishers for repair and operation. Then on the VAZ 2106 the spark plugs must be replaced at least after 30,000 km.
Of course, sticking to this mileage is advisable, but not necessary. After all, you yourself will agree that you will never know how high-quality the candles were purchased and what their actual service life is.
Some copies can travel 100,000 km, and the engine will still work quite well for them. And others, on the contrary, even after the first thousand they will begin to have breakdowns in the ignition, which is not good! Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the candles and change them not only at a strictly defined interval, but also according to their condition.
Foreign and Russian markings
When choosing spark plugs for a VAZ 2106 car, you must be guided by the numerical value indicated on the marking. It denotes the heat value of the element, which characterizes the candle’s ability to remove heat and self-clean from carbon deposits during operation. According to the Russian classification, elements are divided into the following groups:
If you install too “hot” or “cold” spark plugs on a VAZ 2106 car, the engine will not be able to function in normal mode with maximum efficiency. The letter indices on the marking indicate less important parameters, but they also need to be taken into account.
For example, a product with the designation A17DV is suitable for engines with a carburetor and an ignition system with mechanical contacts, and A17DVRM is suitable for power units with an injector.

Reasons for replacing elements
The spark plug in any car must function in difficult conditions, solving the following problems:
- promptly ignite the air-fuel mixture compressed in the cylinder;
- provide an even and powerful spark discharge on its contacts;
- sparking should not deteriorate under any engine operating mode.
For ignorant car enthusiasts, checking spark plugs comes down to a “spark” test. This gives rise to an erroneous statement: if, when connected to a source, a spark jumps between the contacts, then the element is in good working order.
But the conditions inside the combustion chamber differ from normal atmospheric ones, since there is high pressure (over 10 Bar), and instead of air there is fuel plus high temperature. Often, a spark plug that produces a reliable spark discharge in air, in the cylinder, works with misfires or does not spark at all.
The operability of the elements can only be determined on a stand with high voltage applied and pressure created in the chamber. Such a check is not available to most ordinary motorists; the only way out is to promptly replace the VAZ 2106 spark plugs by purchasing high-quality products from well-known manufacturers. These include famous brands NGK, Bosch, Beru and Brisk.
Russian spark plugs of the A17 series cannot boast of a long service life and fail after 15-20 thousand kilometers, as evidenced by the following signs:
- The engine "troits". Moreover, sometimes it is impossible to understand which cylinder is failing, since all 4 spark plugs skip ignition cycles.
- The car performs poorly and is unstable until it warms up.
- With high fuel consumption, a drop in power is observed.
- A particularly bad case is when the oil pressure light comes on. This is the result of long-term driving on bad spark plugs, when the fuel that does not burn in the cylinders flows into the crankcase and dilutes the oil, causing its pressure to drop.
Every car enthusiast should remember that if the power unit malfunctions, the first step is to unscrew the spark plugs and visually check their condition.
The color and thickness of carbon deposits on the contacts can tell a lot to an understanding motorist:
- black carbon deposits on the contacts indicate that the fuel in the chamber does not burn completely, perhaps the spark plug has failed;
- a white coating on the electrodes indicates a poor air-fuel mixture, the spark plug is working;
- red carbon deposits indicate that the fuel contains harmful additives; the spark plug is most likely in good working order;
- thick “fluffy” carbon deposits are the result of combustion of oil entering the chamber through the seals or piston group.
The normal color of electrodes is all shades of brown with a minimum thickness of plaque.
Spark plug malfunctions and their diagnosis
The main parameter is the gap between the spark plug and the electrodes, so you need to know what is acceptable. This parameter differs depending on whether an injector or a carburetor is used in the power system. In addition, the manufacturer sets its own standards for various types of engines. Usually the gap is in the range of 0.5-1 mm and, if it differs from the norm, it must be adjusted.
We removed the carburetor from a VAZ 2107, ran through the entire fuel system, and the engine still does not pull? Oddly enough, the symptoms of ignition problems are very similar to fuel system problems. You can even sin on the injector, its pump is installed in the tank, if the engine does not pick up speed. And the reason will not be in the pump, but in the high-voltage wires, which have dried out over time, and the current leakage has increased many times over.
TOP best manufacturers of spark plugs for VAZ
So which SZ for VAZ is better to choose?
Below is a list of the most popular device manufacturers:
- ZAZS. VAZ vehicles are equipped with such SZ during production. The manufacturer recommends using ZAZS, citing the fact that these spark plugs are most optimal for domestic engines. However, many car enthusiasts do not trust this manufacturer and install SZ from other brands on their cars.
- Beru. In particular, we are talking about the 14FR-7DU model. The main feature of such SZ is the use of a copper central electrode in the design, which has a nickel shell. Thanks to this, the SZ of this model is more resistant to corrosion and wear. The skirt is made in a conical shape, thanks to which the device quickly switches to self-cleaning mode. In addition, the spark power in these fire protection systems is quite high; accordingly, the combustible mixture will burn most efficiently.
- Champion, namely the RC9YC model. If you believe the manufacturer, then such SZ have lower performance in terms of gasoline consumption. In addition, they are more stable, and their power when operating at higher engine speeds is higher.
- NGK is one of the brands that supplies the highest quality products to the domestic market. The nickel model BCPR6ES-11 is currently considered one of the most affordable options. A power unit with such devices will operate more steadily. And when the driver presses the gas pedal, the engine can operate 4% more powerful than with traditional SZ. Separately, we should highlight the iridium spark plugs on the VAZ.
- If you decide to purchase iridium spark plugs at VAZ, you will be faced with a large assortment of models. They differ from each other both in cost and in characteristics. It should be noted that iridium spark plugs on VAZ have a longer service life. Depending on the model, iridium spark plugs on a VAZ can last up to 100 thousand kilometers or even more. Of course, such advantages also affect the cost of SZ as a whole. Iridium spark plugs on VAZ have an iridium electrode, which makes the spark even more powerful.
- Denso Q20TT. Such devices have a thinner electrode, for the manufacture of which precious metals are not used. Accordingly, this has a positive effect on the price of SZ. As practice shows, when using such devices, the engine power will be higher, its dynamics will increase, and fuel consumption can be reduced. Of course, we are talking about a normally running engine.
- Czech-made devices Brisk DR15YC are equipped with a copper core, as well as a longer electrode insulator, thanks to which the SZ can more quickly switch to self-cleaning mode. Accordingly, the use of these models is more relevant for vehicles that are used in urban environments. As for the replacement interval, in this case it largely depends on the quality of the fuel.
- Bosch FR7DCU. Such SZ are equipped with a copper core mounted to a chromium-nickel shell. Accordingly, this enables the electrode to be more resistant to erosion or corrosion. Thanks to the use of nickel plating, the likelihood of thread sticking is minimized. Finwhale F516. The body of this model is characterized by galvanic coating and is made of ductile steel. In addition, this model has good electrical insulation, as a result of which heat conductivity will be higher, which is ensured by the high content of aluminum oxide on the insulator.
Checking and replacing the ignition coil
On rear-wheel drive cars of the classic family with a carburetor engine, the ignition coil (in automotive circles it is often called a “bobbin”) is installed in the engine compartment on the left mudguard and secured with two nuts.
On later injection versions, an ignition module is installed, mounted on the cylinder block.
Before deciding to replace the coil, you should make sure that it is not working, otherwise the repair may be useless and money will be wasted.
Verification methods
The simplest method, which does not require special equipment, but is unsafe. Remove the central high-voltage wire and crank the engine by turning the ignition key. At the same time, we lean the removed wire against ground or the car body. If there is a spark, then the coil is ok. An assistant may be needed for this operation.
The second method, which is also more accurate, is to measure the resistance of the coil windings using a multimeter measuring device or “popularly” using a tester.
Measuring ignition coil resistance
We clean the coil contacts (studs on the body). The first check is the resistance of the primary winding. To do this, connect an ohmmeter to two studs and take measurements. Depending on the type of coil being tested, the resistance should be within the following limits: coil 2101-2107 B-117A = 3-3.5 Ohm; coil 2108-099 027.3705 = 0.45-0.5 Ohm.
Then we check the resistance in the secondary winding circuit. We connect one terminal of the tester to the central terminal of the high-voltage wire, and leave the second terminal of the probe at the terminal of the primary winding. In this case, the resistance of the working coil should be as follows: B-117A = 7.4-9.2 kOhm; 027.3705 = about 5 kOhm.
Replacement with a new one
To replace the ignition coil (bobbin) of a VAZ 2104, you must do the following:
We install the new coil in the reverse order, observing the written order of connecting the wires.
Models and manufacturers
There are several models of ignition coils on the shelves of car dealerships. For “classics” (2101-2107) - B-117A, and for VAZ cars of the eighth family (2108-21099) - 027.3705.
Basically, all reels are of domestic production, manufacturing companies: ATE-2, Citron, Stary Oskol. According to numerous reviews, coils from Stary Oskol are considered to be the highest quality.
Checking and setting the gap between the spark plug electrodes
Almost all spark plugs produced today have a factory-set gap between the electrodes. It is different for each manufacturer. It is also different for spark plugs for carburetor engines with contact and non-contact ignition systems, and for spark plugs for injection engines.
For example, the gaps between the electrodes of spark plugs for carburetor engines vary between 0.5-0.7 mm for a contact ignition system, 0.7-0.9 mm for a contactless one. Moreover, it is recommended to make the gap smaller by 1 mm in winter, and larger by 1 mm in summer. In this way, improved engine starting and stability of its operation at different atmospheric temperatures are achieved.
It is believed that prolonged cranking of the engine with the starter at low ambient temperatures can discharge even a new battery so much that its voltage is not enough to form a spark if the gap between the electrodes is too large or normal. At the same time, increasing the gap creates additional load on the ignition coil.
For injection engines, the gap is in the range of 0.9-1.1 mm. There are no recommendations for changing the gap size for different seasons.
Checking the gap between the spark plug electrodes
When installing new spark plugs on an engine or checking old ones, it is necessary to measure the gap between their electrodes. Old spark plugs should be cleaned of carbon deposits. The check is carried out with a round probe of the required diameter. Measuring with a flat probe will be inaccurate, since there is almost always a small indentation on the side electrode of the spark plug due to metal transfer to the central electrode. This is especially true for candles that have already worked for some time.
Checking the gap with a feeler gauge: 1-wrong (feeling gauge is flat), 2-correct (feeling gauge is round)
Adjusting the gap between the spark plug electrodes
The gap between the electrodes of the spark plugs is adjusted by bending or, conversely, bending the side electrode. It is best to use a special key to carry out this operation. After bending, the gap is checked again.
Spark plug. Right choice
Carbon deposits on spark plugs can indicate any malfunction, including incorrect adjustment of the fuel mixture. You can find out why the candles are black. During normal engine operation in compliance with all operating rules and regulations, the spark plug electrodes will have a light brown color. Carbon deposits can be found, but in very small quantities the same applies to deposits. In any case, the fuel is often dirty, with impurities that are not completely burned and remain on the walls of the combustion chamber and on the spark plugs.

Velvet black carbon will be the answer to high fuel consumption, so you need to replace the air filter, or the injector (carburetor) needs to be adjusted. Light gray and all white carbon. There is a large amount of air in the fuel mixture, it is quite dangerous to drive with such settings. It is necessary to neutralize the mixture, otherwise frequent overheating and burnout of the valves will occur. Replacing valves is not a replacement for a VAZ 2107, it can fly like a penny.
Let's start changing the oil
It is recommended to change the engine oil on a VAZ 2106 after the engine has warmed up, so that the lubricant is better than glass, and you can replace almost all the fluid. If the car has been parked for a long time and the engine remains cold, be sure to warm it up to operating temperature.
Before you start changing the oil in the VAZ 2106 engine, you need to provide access to the drain hole of the car using one of the available options:
- lift the car on a lift;
- drive into the inspection hole;
- install on supports, first lifting with a jack;
- drive it onto the overpass.
Securely secure the vehicle to prevent it from moving during the lubricant replacement procedure.
