How to replace spark plugs
Before installing a new product and removing failed spare parts, you must disconnect the negative pole of the battery, which, unlike the positive one, is black and has a “-” symbol.
The cost of replacing the device is very low, starting from 150 rubles each. The cost will increase or decrease depending on the volume and number of cylinders. On average, gasoline vehicles are serviced every 60,000 km. However, depending on how intensively the car is used, this interval may be shorter and the glow system will fail between 35,000 and 40,000 km.
Remember that if only one spark plug is faulty, it is advisable to replace them all at once. Below we provide step-by-step instructions necessary for installing the equipment:
- a wrench of a certain width so that you can unscrew and secure the new device;
- ratchet or hexagonal head to facilitate removal of the product;
- a compressor with compressed air to thoroughly clean all openings and connections;
- goggles to protect your eyes from debris that may bounce off during blowing;
- You need to put gloves on your hands, they will come in handy when working with cables.
1. First of all, keep in mind that the engine must be cold, you need to start working after 2 hours from the moment of using the equipment. The spark plugs are usually visible or under a plastic protector. They have a characteristic shape that will be very easy to find.
2. Disconnect the high-voltage cable from the required plug, carefully pulling it towards the top so as not to damage it
Do this carefully, remembering the location of all the wires so that you can then secure everything in its place.
3. Remove the fork and spool using a hex wrench, appropriate ratchet, or wrench. To remove the device, you need to turn the tool counterclockwise.
4. Then blow out the mounting hole, completely clearing it of any dirt.
It is important to wear safety glasses when doing this
5. Secure the new product
Lubricate it and start screwing it in carefully by hand, applying a little force, then use a wrench to tighten the device, being careful not to overdo it too much
6. Insert the ignition coil, tightening it with the screws and ratchet you used earlier. Be careful not to apply too much pressure as this may damage the threads and the reel itself.
7. Connect the cable and repeat the same process for each design.
If you did everything correctly, used the appropriate key size, unscrewing the heads, the car will start and work more efficiently.
What are the dangers of using unsuitable candles?
What are the best spark plugs for carburetor engines?
If you buy spark plugs that are not suitable for your car’s engine, or that are of low quality, this is fraught with the following problems:
- Engine starting will become worse; when trying to start the engine, you will have to crank the starter much longer. In some cases, starting the engine will not be possible at all. Please note that if you turn the starter for a long time, you can drain the battery.
- The problem of increased fuel consumption is quite possible.
- If the engine can be started, the power unit will generally operate noisier. This especially refers to the operation of the internal combustion engine at idle or during warm-up. Plus, the noise can only get louder over time.
- The volume of harmful substances contained in exhaust gases will also increase. This can only be checked using specialized equipment.
- The dynamics and power of the power unit will drop. The loss of traction will be especially felt when driving uphill (video author - Sergey Tsapyuk).
Manufacturers
In order not to encounter problems with the engine, you need to know exactly which SZ is best to install on the Priora. Detailed information regarding the selection of SZ is indicated in the service book for the car.
If for some reason you do not have a manual, then we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the list of manufacturers whose products are designed for use in the engines of these car models:
- for Lada Priora cars, the manufacturer recommends using domestically produced products AU17 DVRM or AU15 DVRM;
- it is allowed to use German-made spark plugs BERU 14 FR7DU;
- You can also choose Champion candles, produced in the UK, model RC9YC;
- SZ made in Japan have long established themselves as one of the highest quality, in particular, we mean NGK BCPR6ES;
- No less high-quality analogues are Denso spark plugs - model Q20PR-U11;
- spark plugs of the Czech brand BRISK - the use of models DR15YC-1 and DR17YC-1 is allowed;
- BOSCH FR7DCU (video author - Simple Opinion channel).
If the budget allows, then it makes sense to give preference to iridium spark plugs from the manufacturers Denso or NGK. Thanks to the use of iridium on the electrodes, you can ensure high-quality starting of the power unit during cold weather. If we compare it with traditional SZ, in which the service life varies in the region of 10-20 thousand kilometers, then in this case the service life will be several times longer.
Reviews from our compatriots show that domestically produced spark plugs are considered one of the worst options for Priora engines. Especially because at low negative temperatures these products do not allow the engine to start. When buying SZ from well-known manufacturers, look at the packaging, as well as the product description and the country of manufacture. Look at the name SZ indicated on the body of the product - it should be engraved or written smoothly, without chips. The bottom line is that there are a lot of fakes on the market today, so there is a possibility of buying low-quality SZ at an inflated price (the video was shot by Valery Vinokurov).

Description of types and markings
Replacing spark plugs for VAZ 2114 8 valves. how often do you need to change spark plugs on a vaz
When the need for replacement arises, you should decide which candles are best to install. The most popular brands are Brisk, NGK and Bosh. However, they have different markings adopted in Europe, so you need to know which imported candles correspond to the domestic markings. The interpretation of this marking, according to OST 37.003 081 - 98, is as follows:
- The first letter A means the type, diameter and thread pitch - M 14 x 1.25.
- If the letter U follows, it indicates the size of the hexagon for tightening the spark plug, 16 mm. In the absence of the second letter, the product has a size of 20.8 mm.
- The number 17 shows the heat number. When the engine is running, the spark plug heats up to a certain optimal temperature, at which it self-cleanses. In the event of unfavorable operating conditions, overheating of the electrodes occurs, and the fuel in the cylinder can ignite spontaneously, without waiting for a spark to occur. This effect is called glow ignition, and the glow number of a candle is a parameter indicating the temperature regime of its proper operation. The higher this parameter, the less the product heats up (cold candle) and can work in much more difficult conditions than a candle with a low heat rating (hot). In engines with high power and high speeds, colder spark plugs are used, and for power units with lower loads, hot products are used.
Marking of imported spark plugs on Lada Priora
- The letter D indicates the length of the thread (skirt) - 19 mm.
- The letter B means that part of the insulator protrudes above the plane of the product body.
- The letter P indicates that a resistor is built into the spark plug body to suppress interference from sparking.
- The last letter M indicates that the central electrode is bimetallic with a copper core.
The question of how to choose imported spark plugs by size for a Priora is not difficult to solve. To do this, just unscrew the old spark plug and have it with you during purchase. How imported products are labeled is shown in Table 1.
As can be seen from the table, the markings of domestic and imported candles are different. In addition, there are other markings. To simplify the selection process, Table 2 shows the corresponding spark plugs from various manufacturers for installation on Priora.
Note: in Table 2, the markings in the numerator are for the 16-valve Priora engine, and in the denominator for the 8-valve engine.
It is better to purchase spark plugs from official dealers, whose representatives will be able to explain all the nuances on the spot and advise on the appropriate option, since there are high-tech products at a higher price. For example, platinum or iridium spark plugs, the central electrode of which is made of these metals.
Its diameter is only 0.4-0.7 mm, despite the fact that a standard copper electrode has a size of 2.5 mm. Such products last twice as long as regular ones, so their high cost is fully justified. Spark plugs with two, three and four side electrodes are also suitable for installation on Priora. It is believed that they create better conditions for fuel combustion and extend the life of the vehicle's power plant.

Determining the engine condition on a Priora using spark plugs
What are the best spark plugs to put on the Lada Priora?
When the engine is working properly, the color of the soot should be gray-brown, while the spark plugs remain clean. If the carbon deposits have a different color, this means that there are defects in the operation of the engine.
Soot that resembles limestone indicates that the oil contains non-burning additives. In this case, lubricant also collects on the bottom of the pistons and valves. Because of this, the filling of the cylinders and heat dissipation deteriorate. Such deposits can be removed exclusively mechanically, and to eliminate the problem you need to use higher quality oil.
Soot, which looks like black velvet, indicates high fuel consumption and an over-enriched mixture. In this case, carbon dioxide exceeds the permissible limit of 10%. This may be due to a dirty air filter, incorrectly installed spark plugs, or incorrect power system settings. After eliminating the problems, the carbon burns out on its own at high speeds.
Resinous deposits (cold spark plug) are a consequence of a malfunction. Most often, the issue is resolved by simply replacing the part. Sometimes the cause of such deposits is high-voltage wires, lack of compression in the cylinder, or a spark plug that is not suitable for a car of a given brand. In this case, its mandatory replacement is required.
Light soot (hot spark plug) indicates that the part is overheating. This could be due to late ignition, cooling problems, or a plug that is not suitable for the engine. Because of this, the piston may burn out, the valve may become covered with cracks, and pieces may fall off the spark plug insulator, landing on the cylinder and piston.
Red candles indicate the use of low-quality gasoline with ferrocene additives, which have a bad effect on the engine. Therefore, it is worth considering changing the gas station.
Bosch YR7MPP33 (0 242 135 509) with platinum electrode
Very expensive new generation spark plugs with platinum electrodes. The thread is M12, its length is 26.5 mm, pitch is 1.25 mm. A wrench of 16 is used for tightening. The heat rating is 7. The model is used for Mercedes-Benz cars, but they are installed on any gasoline cars, including VAZ.
Recommended for the engine of modern cars, the main thing is that it is used on the injector and not on the carburetor. The model is 8-valve; it is not worth using it for a 16-valve engine, although it is possible. Very high quality, German candles. The product weighs 47 g. It costs 480–500 rubles per piece.
Central electrode with platinum tip. Lateral - one, with a cross-section of 0.6 mm, the distance between them is 0.8 mm, the gap is 3.5 mm. Provide more complete combustion of fuel due to enhanced spark formation.

The most famous manufacturers and popular markings
Modern retail outlets that sell replacement spare parts, consumables and components for cars are replete with a huge selection of different spark plugs. As they say, for every taste and color. However, there is no need to rush. First, you need to clarify which manufacturers produce spark plugs for the Priora with a 16-valve engine. The most common brands for Priora 16 valves are made by the following manufacturers.
- Russia, JSC ZAZS, AU 17 DVRM
- Germany, Bosch, WR7DC
- Germany, Beru, 14R-7DU
- Czech Republic, Brisk, LR15YC DR15YC
- Japan NGK, BPR6ES
- Japan Denso, W20EPR.
Of course, according to established tradition, car owners try to replace Russian ones with imported parts. And especially Japanese and German ones. It must be clarified that now this desire practically does not justify itself in any way. Yes, German Bosch spark plugs, in recent tests in laboratories, showed slightly better results than Russian DVRM. However, domestic devices are confidently ahead of all other models. Including German "Beri" and Japanese "NZHK".
What to choose for replacement
In general, you should not chase well-advertised brands. It must be taken into account that the market is now filled with a huge number of fakes. And, as a rule, it is precisely those parts that are popular for replacement and that have the highest cost that are falsified. Therefore, Russian devices for Priora in this context are not of great interest to counterfeiters. Next to them, the Czech Brisk stands with confidence. They are very popular among our repairmen. Japanese "NZHK" and German "Bosch" are doing well. But here, fakes are very common. Suffice it to say that they cost about $2 per candle when purchased from the factory. And they have 7 degrees of protection. Imagine how much a set of real candles will cost here in Russia.
In general, the advice is this: don’t get too carried away with imported parts. Practice shows that Russian-made spark plugs for Priora perform excellent when replaced.
Analogs
Which spark plugs are better for Priora 16 cl.? For those who do not want to buy factory spark plugs, there is a huge selection of analogues:
- Products from the British. Which spark plugs are best to choose for a Lada Priora car? How to properly replace spark plugs with your own hands? Which spark plugs are better for Priora 16 cl.? For such an engine it is worth purchasing the “Champion” RC9YC.
- Candles from German. They are little popular, but have a high resource. The marking for Priora is 14FR7DU.
- Japanese candles NGK. Zheka147 › Blog › Which spark plugs are best to choose for which spark plugs to put on Priora a for 8. Perhaps the most popular analogue of factory products. NGK marked BCPR6ES is ideal for the 16-valve Priora.
- "Denso". This is also a Japanese manufacturer. The cost is on par with NGK, and the quality is not inferior either. For Priora you should buy Denso Q20PR-U11.
- "Brisk" (Czech Republic). Another popular spark plug manufacturer. The manufacturer offers products with different heat ratings and number of electrodes. Spark plugs DR15YC-1 are suitable for Priora. The same ones are used on Kalina engines of the first and second generation, with a 16-valve timing mechanism. But judging by the reviews, the products are of low quality - the electrodes are greatly offset from the center, which is unacceptable for such products.
How to choose spark plugs
What spark plugs should I put on the Lada Priora? If a standard part has exhausted its service life, there is no need to replace it with the same one, since its quality will be noticeably inferior to imported products. Domestic car enthusiasts today prefer products from manufacturers such as Brisk, Bosh and NGK, which occupy leading positions in the global market.
To select the correct spark plugs, you must first pay attention to their markings. It is an alphanumeric combination, which is deciphered as follows:
- the letter that usually comes first indicates the pitch, type and diameter of the thread. These parameters are extremely important, since if you choose them incorrectly, you simply will not be able to install the spark plug;
- the second letter indicates the size of the hexagon used for tightening the part. If you are looking for a product for the Lada Priora, spark plugs marked U (16 millimeters) or without a second letter at all (20.8 millimeters) will suit you;
- The numbers in the marking indicate the heat rating of the part. This is another important parameter on which the ability to use the product in different operating conditions depends. For example, on engines with increased power it is better to install spark plugs with a high heat rating, and on power units with a low number of revolutions and operating under a reduced load (including with gas equipment for gas equipment) - with a low one.
In the marking of parts there may be a number of additional letters that mean:
- D – spark plug skirt length;
- P – the presence in the design of the part of a special resistor, which extinguishes possible interference during the formation of a spark;
- M – use of a copper core for the manufacture of the central electrode;
- B is the position of the insulator, which can protrude above the plane of the spark plug body or be completely hidden under it.
It is better to install spark plugs from foreign manufacturers on a Lada Priora car, focusing on the following recommendations for marking parts:
- Bosh: for a 16-valve engine - FR7DCU, for an 8-valve engine - WR7DC;
- CHAMPION: 14FR-7DU or 14R-7DU;
- Brisk: DR15YC or LR15YC;
- NGK: BCPR6ES-9 or BPR6ES-9.
Depending on your financial capabilities, you can also choose candles based on the materials used in their production:
- products with copper electrodes, which are widespread due to their affordable cost and have an average service life;
- spark plugs with platinum contacts or electrodes. They last much longer, but are also more expensive;
- parts with iridium electrodes that can withstand increased loads;
- spark plugs with bimetallic electrodes using a copper core.

Types of spark plugs and diagnostics of their condition
Spark plugs also vary in thread length, thread type, and wrench head size. According to thermal characteristics, products are of the cold type (heat number more than 20), medium type (from 17 to 20), universal type (from 11 to 20) and hot (heat number from eleven to 14). The heat number is the average pressure at which heat ignition appears in the system during testing.
The candles are smoked
Spark plugs on a Priora, like on any other car, are subject to chemical, mechanical and thermal loads that wear out the product. For example, the temperature difference has a rather strong effect, since part of the part is under the hood, and part is in the combustion chamber. Due to chemical exposure, certain active substances arise that can cause oxidation. Mechanical loads cause vibrations, and electrical loads cause sparking. In addition, it must be taken into account that during operation carbon deposits (a carbonaceous mass with an uneven surface) may form on the product.
Based on the condition of the spark plugs on a Priora, you can say a lot about the condition of the car’s engine and other systems.
Condition of the candles | Conclusion |
Light brown insulator color | Good condition and economical fuel consumption. |
Dry, black, velvety deposits on the central electrode | Incorrectly adjusted carburetor or injector, clogged air filter, excessively rich mixture of fuel and air. |
White or dirty gray center electrode | Too lean mixture, overheating of the spark plug (leading to overheating of the combustion chamber and burnout of the exhaust valves), too “hot” spark plug. |
Reddish or yellow deposits on the electrode | The fuel contains an excessive amount of metal additives (lead, manganese). |
Pronounced traces of oil on the candle, oily soot | There may be oil getting into the cylinder, insufficient spark plug temperature or wear of the piston rings, destruction of the valve guides or valve stem seals. Increased oil consumption is noted, the engine may “trouble”, and during warm-up there is a blue-white exhaust. |
The central electrode on the spark plug is completely destroyed, along with the ceramic “skirt” | The engine may have prolonged detonation, the fuel may have too low an octane number, the spark plug may be defective from the start. |
The central electrode is partially destroyed | This condition can occur when there is a sudden change in temperature for the spark plug, for example, if it is unscrewed from a hot engine and placed on snow. |
There are ash deposits on the electrode | The oil scraper piston rings are worn out; an additional sign is that when the gas is changed there is strong, blue smoke from the pipe. |
Destruction of spark plug electrodes | Parts are changed outside the prescribed schedule, gasoline is too leaded, and the car owner often bends the grounding electrode. At the same time, the engine allows “triplication”, does not develop power, and misfires. |
Candles splashed with gasoline | The carburetor is leaking or the ignition system is faulty. In winter, this effect is observed if gasoline, entering the combustion chamber, does not have time to evaporate due to insufficient temperature and, as a result, settles on the walls. |

Flaws:
Replacing spark plugs on a Priora
Welcome! A spark plug is a very important, although small in size, thing that is needed to ignite the fuel-air mixture in a car engine cylinder; in simpler words, thanks to them, the car drives and if you unscrew them, you will no longer start it, because the mixture they ignite will not ignite and therefore the engine will not start.
Note! In order to replace spark plugs on a Priora (And they are located in completely different places, unlike 8 valve engines), you will need to stock up on: A set of wrenches, as well as the spark plug wrench itself, which comes specifically for the car and you will need all this the probe with which you will check the spark plugs for the gap that they have set, if the gap at the electrodes of the spark plug is too small (a defective spark plug, but it can be made normal using this very probe) then you will need to adjust it and thereby return it to the correct one clearance at which the engine will operate normally, confidently and not stall!
Where are the spark plugs located? The spark plug in 16 valve engines, in contrast to 8 valve engines, is in a radically different place; they still continue to be screwed into the cylinder head, but only in 16 valve vehicles they are screwed in from above, while on 8 valve engines they are clearly visible from the side, for clarity, a little Below you can look at the photo, in which the arrows indicate the four ignition modules under which the spark plugs are located.
Note! But you won’t see a picture like the one above on your car, since the engine of a 16-valve car is always closed from above with a so-called screen (Indicated by a red arrow), you will have to remove this screen and only after that you will be able to get to the ignition modules, and only after that modules, right down to the candles themselves! (You will learn how to remove this screen a little later as you read this article)
When should you change spark plugs? The spark plugs must be replaced if the car’s engine starts to stall, that is, when tripping, the engine will twitch, it will also have difficulty picking up speed and in general it will be noticeably worse to drive, in addition, if the spark plug is faulty, the engine will start even worse.
These are all signs, but what about the recommendations given by the manufacturer, you ask? Let's look at this in more detail! According to the factory's recommendations, if the spark plugs are the most common and their electrodes consist of copper or yttrium, then they need to be changed at intervals of 30,000 thousand km.
, because they burn out quickly, but if you use spark plugs whose electrodes are coated with platinum or iridium, then you will have to change such spark plugs much less every 60,000 thousand km.
, and all because platinum is more resistant to high temperatures and, in addition, it is resistant to corrosion of the spark plug electrodes, where it is used!
How to replace spark plugs on a VAZ 2170-VAZ 2172?
Note! As we said earlier, in order to change a spark plug you will need a special spark plug wrench that is suitable for 16 valve cars, and a special one is needed only because it is equipped with a magnetic insert that will hold the spark plug when you unscrew it and remove it from the hole, respectively, without a magnetic one inserting a candle will be more difficult for you to get!
Removal: 1) At the very beginning of the operation, remove the screen from the engine so that it does not interfere with further work, since it covers most of the engine, and about how to remove it, read the article called: “Replacing a car engine screen.”
2) Then from each ignition module (There are four modules in total, each goes separately to each spark plug, the modules were also shown with arrows in the second photo from above) disconnect the wire blocks (For clarity, the photo below shows only one ignition module, and its block indicated by a red arrow) that are connected to them, these pads are held on clamps by bending them, the pad can be disconnected from the module, and after this operation, pick up the key and use it to unscrew all the nuts that secure the module to the car engine (One nut securing one module is indicated by a blue arrow).
Note! When the fastening nut is unscrewed, remove the module indicated by the blue arrow from the hole in which it is located and then put it aside and make sure that no water gets on it, otherwise it may quickly fail when connected!
Installing new ones
How do you then replace the spark plugs? Before installing new ones, you should check the gap between the side and central electrodes. It should be about one millimeter. The parameter is checked using a round probe. It is shown in the photo below:
Please note: over time, the spark plug gap increases. Once every 15 thousand kilometers it is recommended to check this parameter and, if necessary, adjust it.
If the gap is OK, put the spark plug on the tip of the ignition module and lower it into the shaft. Next, use a wrench to tighten it until it stops. There is no need to pull hard. The recommended tightening torque is 25 to 30 Nm. At the next stage, screw the coils and insert the terminals.
Next, we put the decorative plastic cover on the engine and try to start the engine.
Features of choosing spark plugs
There are several types of automotive spark plugs:
By the number of electrodes.
- Single-electrode ones
are presented in a classic design; there is a central electrode with ceramic insulation. The short circuit occurs to a metal cup from which the side electrode protrudes. Such models are cheap and have a simple design, but they are not durable. - Multielectrode
. These include products with two side electrodes. Sometimes the quantity is greater. The durability of the part is increased, but there is a problem with difficult ignition of the fuel mixture.
By type of material.
- Nickel
. Classic type, the cheapest and most common. The central electrode is made of nickel, approximately 2.5 mm in diameter, the side electrode is usually steel. Due to the large diameter, the spark is weak, and the service life is also not long. - Platinum
. The electrode is only 1.1 mm in cross-section; only the top soldering is made of platinum. The spark is powerful. They have a significant service life, reduce fuel consumption, but are very expensive. - Iridium
. Similar to platinum, but the electrode does not exceed 0.4 mm - this allows you to produce the most powerful spark. The material is the most heat-resistant and durable. The product is expensive. - Other materials
. There are products with copper and silver electrodes, but these are special spark plugs, for example, for chainsaws. The opinion that there are lithium candles is unfounded - there are none.
To figure out how to choose spark plugs, you need to find out what indicators are important in this matter:
- Heat number
. Characterizes the period during which heat is removed from the working part. It is correct to take products with the recommended number for a specific car. - Gap size
. Must correspond to the prescribed values. With an increased gap, the stability of spark formation decreases; if it is too small, the car will start easier, but when gas is supplied, the operation of the engine will be disrupted.
- Departure of the working part at the electrode
. A very important parameter. Thus, a number of models for injection engines have a more developed offset. This is due to the fact that the part is not located in the most optimal place in the combustion chamber. Thanks to the flight, this disadvantage is leveled out. Models for multi-valve engines have a deep-set core to prevent piston impact. In addition, it reduces the amount of carbon deposits. Therefore, the design of the part must correspond to the recommended model. - Manufacturers
. There are not many good manufacturers. The best European brands: BOSCH, BERU, FINWHALE, BRISK, VALEO, SCT, EYQUEM; Japanese: DENSO, NGK, HKT; American: CHAMPION, AUTOLITE, ACDELCO. The Engel plant produces quality products from domestic companies.

How to choose the right spark plug
It is important to purchase high-quality spare parts for a car; in order to buy a good product, you need to pay attention to the following selection criteria:
1. It is necessary to order a product compatible with the machine's engine. Most of the best brands clearly indicate the vehicle models their product will be compatible with. Therefore, you need to carefully review the manufacturer's compliance list.
2. Apart from compatibility, you need to choose the design type as there are various options available. The most common:
- Copper-Nickel: The name may confuse you because these products are primarily made of nickel, with only the inner core being made of copper. It conducts current well, which is why most electrodes are made from it. The product is inexpensive, its disadvantage is that it has a short service life, even if used in a high-energy ignition system without a distributor. Many vehicles will benefit from this option; it is suitable for natural gas engines.
- The next type has a platinum center contact. It is expensive due to the rarity of this element, which is harder than nickel, so you can be sure that the product will not corrode. The platinum will prevent the tip gap from widening and wearing out, which directly affects the efficiency of the engine. There are models with one or more electrodes. This helps generate the spark in the best possible way. In terms of service life, it is twice that of standard nickel/copper construction.
- Iridium Product: If you want flawless, smooth motor performance, there is nothing better than an Iridium product. It has a longer service life than traditional models. The thin wire central contacts are designed to conduct current most efficiently. These are expensive products, but the price is offset by incredible performance.
- Silver candles are an option with the best thermal conductivity. The problem with this product is its durability. The precious metal cannot match the durability of platinum or iridium models.
3
It is important to decide: “What kind of ignition is needed, cold or hot?” To give a very simple but precise definition, we can say that candles that glow during operation are hot
And those that do not reach high temperatures are cold.
The metal shell of the structure operates at the same heat as the head. The elements are screwed to each other, forming a chamber in which heat is distributed evenly. Hot models have a long insulator tip with a large surface area, causing all parts to become hot. At the same time, cold ones have a small cap that helps quickly remove excess degrees from the combustion zone.
Russian-made models usually have a numerical heat rating. Their assessment is not always consistent because some brands give higher values while others underestimate.
It becomes extremely difficult for buyers to choose the right product with so many options. It is best to order the design in accordance with the car's engine and year of manufacture.
4. If you do not want to suffer for a long time during replacement, it is better to choose a design that is easy to install. By applying the above selection criteria, a productive model can be easily determined.

Lada Priora - replacing spark plugs
Spark plugs do not always require complete replacement. Sometimes they can be annealed, which will return it to working condition. After this, clean with a soft steel brush to remove any remaining carbon deposits. Experienced motorists are advised to purchase a special gun to check the performance of spark plugs. This device can detect a defect in the spark breaking through to the spark plug body, or the spark wandering along the side electrode. But if, nevertheless, it is necessary to change the spark plug, then a certain procedure should be followed.
The first thing you need to do is remove the plastic casing from the engine block. Then the mounting bolts of each coil are unscrewed, after which they can be removed using a flat-head screwdriver. Next, the candles are unscrewed one at a time. Since the spark plug is located in a recess, you will need a special long spark plug wrench to unscrew it. Unscrewing a candle requires some effort, because high temperatures create a sticking effect on the thread. Care must be taken as excessive force may damage the spark plug insulator. Removing the fragments will not be easy, and if they get into the cylinder, a labor-intensive operation will follow to disassemble the entire block. After the candle has been removed, you need to carefully examine it
You should be alert to burnt electrodes, traces of gasoline and oil, mechanical defects in the insulator, large deposits on the body. The condition of the spark plug is important not only in itself. It may also indicate the condition of the engine. So it is important not to neglect the opportunity to make a “diagnosis” of your engine. A new spark plug is inserted into the head and then installed in place. Its twisting, on the contrary, should not take place with effort. Inaccurate movements can easily damage the threads of the cylinder head, which will require expensive repairs. After the candles are in place, you need to carefully tighten them with a knob. All other procedures are carried out in reverse order.
When faced with the need to replace spark plugs on a Priora for the first time, it is advisable to do this under the guidance of an experienced person. However, this procedure does not contain anything particularly complicated. As a last resort, you can watch the replacement of spark plugs on a Priora 16 valve video.
Let's get started
So, first, open the hood and remove the decorative engine cover.
It is installed on clips. Next, remove the terminals from the ignition coils. The latter also needs to be removed (using the key at “10”).
Note! When removing the high-voltage cord, do not hold the cord - it may be damaged. You only need to grab the rubber tip. If the element is damaged, misfire may occur. The engine will start to stall, and the car itself will begin to consume a lot of fuel (since it needs more energy to push the idle piston in the cylinder).
Now let's move on to the candles themselves. We lower a specialized key into the shaft and begin to unscrew the spark plug counterclockwise using the handle.
You need to remove it very carefully - you must not allow it to fall into the well. Otherwise, part of the insulator may break off and fragments will fall into the cylinder.
Helpful advice: if you don’t have a key with a magnet, you can use the ignition module itself - install it on the end of the spark plug and pull it back out. This way we can remove the old element carefully and without damage.
