How to set up autostart based on temperature on Starline B 9

The Starline B9 security system with auto start is available today to all Russian motorists. This option is very convenient, because it allows you to start the engine remotely, based on a number of parameters: starting by time interval, alarm clock, battery charge, temperature in the cabin or engine.

The owner of a car equipped with a Starline B9 Dialog or Twage car alarm can start the car to warm up from home, and when leaving, get into a warm and warmed-up car. From this article you can learn exactly how to remotely start the engine, as well as how to program basic settings.

How to check if there is autorun?

The verification algorithm is not that complicated, follow all the steps sequentially:

  • Put the car on the handbrake, move the gear selector to neutral position.
  • Turn off the ignition; if the engine stalls, use the starter to start it again.
  • Next, on the Starline key fob, press the button with the key icon.
  • Now try to remove the key from the ignition, if you succeed, then your car has auto start. When you lock the doors, the engine will automatically stop after 30-60 seconds.

If, when you press the autostart button, you hear the engine cranking, but the engine does not start, you should check the settings. Read the security alarm operating manual carefully, then you can configure its operation correctly.

Pairing a security system with a key fob

We have already found out how to turn off the Starline A91 alarm using the jack button and using which key combination to start the engine. But before you give commands to the device, you need to bind it to a branded key fob. And this is done as follows:

  1. The ignition key is inserted into the lock and scrolled to the “on” position (characteristic indicators should light up on the dashboard);

  2. With the ignition on, press the “Jack” key exactly seven times in succession;
  3. The key in the lock is turned twice, in different directions, to first completely turn off and then turn on the ignition again (when the dashboard is turned on again, the alarm should sound 7 short beeps);
  4. After the seventh signal sounds, keys 2 and 3 are simultaneously pressed on the key fob (you need to hold them until the security system makes a characteristic sound);

  5. Turn off the ignition and turn it on again. If the car gives a light signal 5 times, this means that the key fob binding is completed and subsequent combinations of its buttons will directly control the device.

Alarm Starline autostart from key fob

Remote autostart starline

Before learning how to perform starline remote autostart, it is important to study some features. In order for you to be able to enable autostart from the key fob, it is important to meet the following conditions:

  • The first step is to put the car on the parking brake.
  • Turn the key in the ignition switch, and then remove the key (the engine must be turned off).
  • Next, move the gearbox lever to the neutral position.
  • Finally, it is worth closing all the doors tightly, as well as the trunk and hood.

Only if all the above conditions are met, then only in this case the security alarm will allow you to set it to autostart.

Switching to security mode with auto-start is also carried out in a special way:

  • Park and then put the car on the handbrake.
  • Move the gearbox selector to neutral.

  • Hold down button 1 on the key fob for 3 seconds, after which a ringing melody will sound.
  • Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Get out of the car (check that the doors are closed tightly). If you did everything correctly, the alarm will automatically turn off the engine, after which it will switch the alarm to security mode.

To perform a car factory remotely there are 2 ways:

  • Press button 1 for exactly 3 seconds, and then press button 3 until the signal appears.
  • Select the “start” icon, and then press button 2 once.

If the engine starts, you will see the symbol “exhaust gases” on the screen. The car will warm up for the time that you previously set in the settings. 1 minute before turning off the engine, the code “r01” will appear on the display. If the time is up, this code will change to “r00”.

Auto start on alarm clock

First of all, check the time of the on-board computer, it should be as accurate as possible. To enable auto start on an alarm clock, you must follow all the steps according to the instructions:

  • First, enable the option on the keychain with the bell icon.
  • Having set the desired time for the alarm, press keys 3 and 1 in turn, confirm your choice on the dial icon. If autostart is configured correctly, the car will blink its side lights.

When the function is turned on, the picture of the bell and dial will change on the display, and a long melody will also be heard.

Auto start by timer

Activation of this option is done as follows:

  • Move the cursor over the hourglass, then confirm your choice by successively pressing buttons 3 and 1.
  • Set the desired time, and then confirm the activation of the function in the same way.

If you decide to disable the enabled engine start by timer, then this is very simple - press button 2 twice quickly. The previous timer display will disappear from the display, and the key fob will also notify you with a signal that the timer has been turned off.

Autostart based on temperature indicators

This option is one of the most useful; sensors monitor the ambient temperature, and when the desired temperature is reached, the engine starts. You can activate the option using these instructions:

  • Move the cursor to the “thermometer” icon, briefly press button 1, then you will see a flash of the dimensions and a sound signal on the key fob. At the same moment, the current outside temperature should be displayed for 5 seconds.
  • Quickly press button 1 to set the required temperature parameters.
  • Long-pressing button 1 activates the automatic start mode based on temperature.

The option is deactivated using the same method as described above, only in our case the pointer now needs to be placed on the “thermometer” icon.

Setting up autorun using a phone application

Automatic engine start using a smartphone is a useful option, since the driver has the opportunity to start the engine from anywhere on Earth (if a GPS module is built-in). If your security alarm from Starline has a GPS module, then you can start it in the following ways:

  • By sending an SMS message to the SIM card installed in the key fob.
  • On call.
  • By sending a command using a special application, which must first be installed and then connected to the machine.

The app can be downloaded from the most popular app stores and is completely free for everyone. The developers have made the interface as simple and understandable as possible, so even a child can understand the controls.

Owner reviews

I drive a VAZ 2107. I chose the alarm based on price, as well as the presence of additional qualities. I don’t think that VAZs are being stolen from anyone now, so the main emphasis was on the convenience of the alarm. The choice fell on Starline B9, which, in addition to security functions (very good, by the way), can also boast additional autostart options and a decent price. The alarm has been on the car for a year now – no glitches and working properly, so I’m happy.

I’ll say right away - I bought it at the price of Starline B9. As for me, 4 thousand for a budget alarm system, but with good options, is quite good. It was recommended by a neighbor in the garage who uses it all the time, and especially praised the turbo timer, so I took it. It won't hurt me on diesel either. So far, the system has been working properly for six months, although I was a little afraid that I had screwed it up, because I installed it myself, and for me this was my first experience. But no complaints. The only drawback is poor sensitivity to the signal from the key fob. Already from the balcony of the 9th floor the car is not reachable, which is inconvenient. But the rest is all good.

The Starline alarm system is a modern security system that meets all vehicle protection requirements. Also, the Starline alarm system, subject to proper installation and configuration, allows you to remotely start the car engine (manually or automatically starts based on temperature).

At the same time, vehicle owners, without going into details or without fully studying the installation instructions, do not always know how to set up the Starline alarm, enable Starline autostart, etc. Next, we will look at how to set up auto start on the Starline alarm system, taking into account its technical and design features.

Starline alarm problems and solutions

The engine does not start or stalls after a minute of operation

You can try to fix problems like this; practice shows that this method only helps in 75% of cases:

  • Go to a specialized service center and ask the technicians to install a bypass module for the standard immobilizer.
  • Be sure to check that the transponder key is positioned correctly.
  • Reconnect the autostart control wire, now you can test the autostart function.

Autostart with manual transmission works every other time

  • Start the engine by turning the key in the ignition and put the car on the handbrake.
  • Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Open and close all the doors of the car, and then activate the security function.

Alarm blocks auto start

Drivers claim that this problem can be dealt with simply by resetting the key fob settings. You can do this using these instructions:

  • Put the car on the parking brake and turn on the ignition.
  • Press the valet button on the Starline alarm system 10 times.
  • Now you need to wait for the system to reboot, after which 2 beeps will sound.
  • Then you should confirm the reset by pressing button 1, then you will see all dimensions blinking 5 times. Now the key fob settings will be reset to factory settings.

If you carefully studied the article, then now you can independently configure autostart on your Starline alarm system. We wish you success!

Reasons why autorun does not work

It is also possible that the engine does not start when cold and even has difficulty starting with the key. In this case, you can set settings that will increase the starter operating time. You can also reduce the interval between startup attempts.

But the most common reason why a car won't start is simple inattention. Such reasons include the gear being in gear (for cars with automatic transmission – drive), unlocked doors, etc. It happens that the car stops starting due to the fact that the system does not receive the signal well.

In this case, the key fob displays information and immediately writes an error. To reset the protocol, you need to start the engine again with the key and tighten the handbrake. Then remove the key from the ignition, open the driver's door and activate the alarm again. Usually the car is armed again, and the OS7 error simply disappears. However, this is not always the case. If this does not happen, then you need to contact the service center.

If the car does not start on its own, then some problems can be solved with your own hands. For example, after replacing the battery, the clock gets lost and all settings are lost, which means that the car starts at the wrong time. Be sure to set the correct clock value after installing a new battery in the remote control.

You also need to check the remote control itself. It may be damaged - have cracks on the display, mechanical damage, or a simply discharged battery. In this case, the signal is not transmitted remotely, and therefore the remote start does not work. In order to understand how “to blame” the key fob is, you need to configure the launch from the phone (instructions are described above). If even after this the problem does not go away, you need to conduct a thorough diagnosis; perhaps there is no signal to the starter.

If the battery is in good working order, the owner will not feel discomfort even in cold weather (according to starline b9, the car can remain in security mode for two months).

The Starline B9 automobile complex is designed to protect vehicles from unauthorized access. The design provides a function for programmable engine warm-up based on a timer signal or ambient temperature. A key fob with 2-way communication and a display allows you to receive information about the alarm status and the reasons for the alarm.

Remote engine start

The Starline B9 alarm system offers several options for remote engine starting. For example, a car owner can perform this procedure directly from the key fob - all that is required is the manipulation of the keys, which are described below.

Also (if there is an optional GSM module), the owner has the opportunity to start the engine using a command sent from the phone or via SMS message. To do this, you will need to purchase an additional SIM card, which will be installed in the car. She must receive calls, decipher messages and issue appropriate commands to control mechanisms.

How to enable auto start on StarLine B9 alarm system

In order for the autorun function to work correctly, it is necessary to take into account some points during installation. For example, cars with manual transmissions are connected according to a certain scheme, for which you need to cut the black loop in the 18-pin connector of the central control unit. If the car is equipped with an automatic transmission, it remains untouched.

It is also necessary to take into account the type of power unit (gasoline or diesel). This is necessary to set the correct starter delay after turning on the heating of the spark plugs. Neutral programming is also required. To do this you will need:

  • tighten the handbrake;
  • after this, you need to close all the doors and press key 2. Now the car will blink once with the side lights, the key fob will play a melody, and the screen will display the inscription r99 or r01-04 (in the case of a connected turbo timer);
  • We take out the ignition key, get out of the car and close all the doors. The motor remains running;
  • Now button 1 on the key fob is pressed. The car beeps once and its headlights flash. The central locking is also locked. The key fob emits one signal, and icons with a lock symbol appear on the screen.

The engine is now prepared to start automatically when a certain key combination is pressed.

How to install it yourself?

To install the alarm yourself, you must first disconnect the battery by opening the hood and resetting the terminal. This will prevent possible short circuits during installation.

Recommendations for placement and installation

When installing, you need to consider the following nuances:

  1. The microprocessor module is located inside the car, in the most hidden place. It is recommended to install the device under the instrument cluster to ensure minimum wiring length. The unit should be placed with the connector down to prevent possible moisture from flowing down the wires into the device. Self-tapping screws or plastic ties are used to secure the module.
  2. The antenna adapter is fixed on the inside of the windshield or rear window, which must first be cleaned and degreased. When installing, take into account that the distance between the transceiver and metal products and body parts should be no more than 5 cm. The device should not be placed near heat sources, since there is a temperature controller inside, and this will affect the readings for starting the engine.
  3. The siren is placed in the engine compartment; it cannot be placed in places with high humidity and temperature changes. To prevent the accumulation of moisture inside the device, it is installed with the horn facing down. After installation, you need to make sure that there is no access to the siren and the wires through which it is connected from under the bottom of the car.
  4. The sensitivity controller is located in the central part of the car body, in the cabin. You can choose any location for installation, as long as the sensor is firmly fixed. When choosing an installation area, it must be taken into account that the consumer must have free access to the controller adjustments.
  5. The remote temperature sensor must be fixed directly to the body of the power unit or to other metal parts adjacent to it. The correctness of reading information about the temperature level of the motor depends on the location of the device.
  6. The alarm status LED lamp is fixed on the center console, in the most visible place. It may be necessary to drill holes in the instrument panel to install the indicator. It is necessary to act carefully so as not to disturb the aesthetics of the salon.
  7. The “Valet” service key is installed in a hidden place inaccessible to prying eyes. The consumer must have easy access to the button when seated in the driver's seat.
  8. A limit switch is installed on the hood.

User Artemiy told how to install the Starline B9 anti-theft system using the example of a Lada car, describing the nuances of connecting the alarm.

Recommendations for laying and connecting wires

Cables should be laid away from sources of electrical noise. This refers to ignition coils, high-voltage spark plug cables, etc. The wires must not be allowed to come into contact with moving parts of the vehicle, such as pedals, steering rods. All components are connected after installation.

Connection Features:

  1. The antenna adapter must be connected to the five-pin block. For this, the appropriate wire is used.
  2. The diode lamp must be connected to a two-pin plug.
  3. To connect the “Valet” service key, a block with two contacts is also used.
  4. The sensitivity controller is connected to the microprocessor module via four-wire cables, which are included in the kit. After making the connection, the device is programmed and its parameters are adjusted.
  5. A two-wire cable is used to connect the engine temperature controller. One of the contacts is connected to a gray-orange conductor. The second cable must be connected to the black element of the 18-pin block, the polarity is not important.

Connection diagrams

After installing all components, the alarm system is connected. When extending cables, it is necessary to use the soldering method; twisting is not allowed. It is recommended to additionally wrap the wire with electrical tape or install heat-shrink tubing on it.

Setting up autorun

To configure autostart on the Starline B9 car alarm, you will have to enter a special programming mode. To do this, you will need the Valet service button. This key is mounted in a place hidden from view, but at the same time convenient and easily accessible for the car owner. The installers definitely know the location of the button, but if it is unknown, it is worth checking:

  • space under the front panel near the fuse box. You will need to remove the decorative covers;
  • internal pockets of compartments for small items in door cards;
  • space in the center tunnel between the front seats;
  • place under the steering column or near the pedal assembly.

You will also need to have a main or spare key fob linked to this alarm. After this, you can make settings.

How to set the time on Starline A93

Press button 4 until there are three signals: one melodic and two short. At this time, the clock image will start flashing.

Setting up the clock must begin within eight seconds, otherwise the key fob will exit the function menu

The hours are set with button 2, minutes with button 3. After setting the hours, the transition to minutes is carried out using button 4.

Another press of button No. 4 leads to setting the alarm clock. The alarm clock is set in the same way as the time. Exit the alarm clock setting mode using button 4.

Autorun programming

By performing a certain sequence of actions, you can program some automatic start parameters. To do this, you will need to enter the function settings mode. This procedure is carried out similarly for all autostart parameters: with the ignition off, the Valet service button is pressed six times. After turning on the ignition, six sound and light signals from the car follow. The Valet button is then pressed a certain number of times depending on the function being programmed. Specific examples are discussed below.

Automatic engine start by timer

Also, the Starline B9 alarm system has the ability to autostart at certain time intervals. To set this parameter you need to:

  • turn off the ignition, press the Valet key six times;
  • turn the key, make sure there is sound and light confirmation;
  • press the Valet button three more times;
  • Now, by clicking on the remote control button, you can set the desired time after which the engine will start on its own. The first button is 2 hours, the second is 3 hours, the third is 4 hours, the first is long - once every 24 hours;
  • confirmation and memorization are also automatic.

Now automatic start can be activated from the key fob:

  • You need to successively press keys 3 and 1 to move the cursor to the fan icon. Afterwards, a melodic signal from the remote control will sound;
  • To enable this mode, you now need to press the second key.

Start on alarm

In Starline B9 systems, you can configure automatic start on an alarm clock. You should first make sure that the time on the key fob is set correctly in order for the program to run correctly.

You need to position the cursor on the corresponding clock icon (using the third button). Then you need to press the first button and hear a melodic signal. The time on the key fob should blink, and the car's dimensions should blink once.

Now the corresponding icon is displayed on the remote control, and the system has begun the countdown to autostart. The alarm clock indicators themselves are set in the same place as the clock parameter.

After this, autostart by alarm can be activated from the key fob:

  • You need to successively press keys 3 and 1 to move the cursor to the clock icon. Afterwards, a melodic signal from the remote control will sound;
  • To turn off this mode, you now need to press the second key.

Setting autostart based on temperature

To automatically start based on temperature, this operation is carried out as follows:

  • turn the ignition key to the OFF position, press the Valet service key 6 times;
  • turn on the ignition, listen to 6 sound and light signals from the car, confirming entry into the programming mode;
  • press the Valet button four more times;
  • Now on the key fob we press the buttons corresponding to the required value (1st key = -5 degrees, 2nd = -10 degrees, 3rd = -18 degrees, long press of the first button = -25 degrees);
  • confirmation of the received command is the corresponding number of sound or light signals (from 1 to 4). Memorizing this function will be automatic; you just need to not press anything for five seconds.

Temperature-based autostart can also be activated from the key fob - you need to use buttons 3 and 1, move the cursor to the thermometer icon and activate this option. As confirmation, one beep from the key fob will sound and the headlights will flash several times.

Below is a video with instructions on how to program your car to autostart based on engine or interior temperature.

How to disable engine auto start

You can control the engine start automatically using the Starline B9 key fob. You need to press the first key on the key fob for a long time, and then press the third button once. In one cycle, the car can make four attempts to start the engine. In case of failure, the message SP will be displayed on the remote control screen.

You can also remotely extend the operation of an already running engine. The key combination here is similar - press the first button for a long time, and then press the third key briefly. If you need to remotely stop the engine, you need to press the second button on the key fob for a long time, and then briefly click the third again.

5. Autostart Starline B9 based on engine temperature

First of all, you need to configure function No. 4 from table No. 2 in the instructions for the alarm. You have to determine at what temperature the engine will start. There are 4 options: –5, –10, –18 and –25 °C. The warm-up time is set by function No. 2: 10, 20, 30 minutes. or without limitation.

How to enable by starting temperature:

  1. Select the icon in the form of a thermometer with the inscription Temp Start underneath it.
  2. Press button 1 of the key fob. The display will show the same icon that was selected to activate the mode.

If you need to disable autorun, just do the same, only after selecting the desired icon, press key 2.

5.1. Engine temperature sensor

The engine temperature sensor in the StarLine B9 alarm system is a small metal part (thermistor) with an attached cable.

For correct operation, it is important to choose the right installation location. This determines how correctly the configured autorun will work. The sensor is attached to the engine housing or other metal parts that are adjacent to it.

It is often recommended to place the element on the engine cooling pipe. This way it will warm up quickly, but will not overheat.

User manual

The operating instructions contain a description of the components included in the kit and the technical parameters of the equipment. The security and additional functions supported by the system are listed. A separate section is devoted to the features of managing the security complex, and provides tips on setting up automatic start and programming a personal code that allows you to disable security without a key fob.

The user manual included with the B9 alarm contains paragraphs with recommendations for placing components and connecting patch harnesses.

Diagrams for connecting the central unit with the electronic components of the car are provided (for example, for working together with the standard central locking controller). The attached graph of the alarm functioning during automatic engine start allows you to determine the parameters corresponding to the type of car.

Setting up the key fob and labeling the buttons

On the body of the StarLine A91 alarm key fob there are three main buttons that are responsible for setting up the entire security system. Well, how to activate the desired option using them, see the table below:

Button numberSingle pressWhen held for a long timeWhen double clicked
1Turning on the alarm and then locking the doorsSilent vehicle armingActivating the shock sensor
2Removing the car from the alarm system, followed by unlocking the doorsSilent disarmingDeactivating the damage sensor
3Checking the current state of the security system and temperature conditions in the car interiorSelecting the engine start mode: by timer, by temperature, or by alarm clockActivating the automatic engine warm-up mode
"Jack"Emergency alarm reset (turns off the siren and unlocks the car)

It is worth noting that the “Valet” button is located not on the key fob itself, but in the interior of the car, so that it is not noticeable. But if the battery is discharged, or the door is opened with a key (without first resetting the alarm from the key fob), it becomes the only salvation for the car owner. After all, when it is pressed, the security system automatically switches to service mode, which gives the driver the opportunity to get to home or to the nearest service station.

In addition to the listed options, the operating instructions for the Starline A91 alarm also provide additional functionality, which is activated by combining two buttons:

  • 1 and 2 keys (sequentially) – activation of silent alarm;
  • 1 and 3 keys (alternately) – manual start of the engine (with the internal combustion engine already running, the combination of these two buttons extends the set timer twice);
  • 3 and 2 keys (sequentially) – turn on the second channel;
  • 1st and 3rd key (simultaneously) – key fob locking;
  • 2nd and 3rd key (simultaneously) – unlocking.

We will look at how to attach the key fob to the Starline A91 alarm system after installation on the car in the article below.
