Arrangement

So, what can you see on the instrument panel in this car? The combination consists of several components:

  • antifreeze temperature indicator in Celsius;
  • tachometer - number of revolutions of the power unit;
  • right and left turn indicators;
  • speedometer - vehicle speed;
  • fuel reserve - the volume of fuel in the tank;
  • image of a gas station - a signal about the need to refuel;
  • control indicator for starting dimensions;
  • brake fluid level indicator;
  • starting high beam headlights;
  • knob for adjusting the clock;
  • display with total and daily mileage;
  • alarm control indicator;
  • clock screen;
  • battery charge level;
  • check engine - indicates an engine malfunction;

  • indicator indicating the handbrake is engaged;
  • oil pressure level;
  • choke light - only available on carburetor engines.

Dashboard

The panel consists of the following devices:

  • speedometer;
  • backlight bulbs;
  • tachometer;
  • fuel gauge;
  • warning lamps;
  • connecting blocks.

For the Lada tenth model, two types of instrument panels are used:

  • old view - devices are located symmetrically;
  • updated version - temperature and fuel level indicators are shifted to the right.

Instrument panel pinout - correct location of each wire. Before repairing, it is necessary to understand this issue in order to understand the essence of the system, the type of fuses and the purpose of each wiring.

The entire diagram can be found in the instruction manual or on the Internet; it will help you quickly understand the design and carry out repairs correctly, without special knowledge of electronics and extensive experience.

Features of panels of different VAZ-2110 models

On VAZ-2110 cars of different years of production you can see different options for instrument combinations.

  • The first models had a built-in electromechanical panel with factory number 3801010. Visually, the device can be easily identified by the mechanical odometer, which is built into the speedometer scale. It is driven by the engine, but the rest of the indicators operate on the magnetic principle. At the back of the shield you can find two power strips placed at right angles.
  • A little later, a dozen were released with an electronic panel equipped with a display at the bottom of the speedometer. Occasionally there are panels with a suction indicator or an airbag light in the same place. There are cars with dual displays - under the speedometer and tachometer.
  • It is extremely rare to find dozens with panels intended for the VAZ-21106. Such shields are equipped with technical number 21106-3801010. This panel can be identified by the display at the bottom of the tachometer and the extended range of the speedometer.
  • The latest VAZ-2110 models are equipped with shields that are unified with the 2118 model. They have one difference - the combination of scales. Unlike the old model, the signs on these panels are placed chaotically and slightly shifted to the right.

Causes

The VAZ-2110 dashboard does not work - what to do in this case? First of all, it is necessary to understand the situation in detail and identify the original causes of the problem.

Of course, the most impressive malfunction of the panel is its complete failure. In such a situation, the instruments themselves, the indicators, and control lights stop working, and the arrows simply fall down. To solve this problem, the first thing you should do is check the functionality of the fifteen-amp fuse, which is designated “F6”. Often this is the reason why the dashboard on the VAZ-2110 does not work.

In general, there are several most common problems inherent in the shields of this car model. Each breakdown has its own characteristics and methods of correction.

What does it mean?

Now many owners of iron horses already know what a small yellow or orange light bulb of a characteristic shape on the dashboard means. If translated literally, check engine sounds like “check the engine.” Therefore, it should warn the driver about malfunctions of the motor unit. That is, the computer on board detected some kind of malfunction in the operation of this compartment.

Normally, when you start your car, this light goes out immediately when you start the engine. And when the key is inserted into the ignition, but the engine is not started, it should light up. But sometimes just the opposite happens. And if this factor bothers you when operating the machine, then this is one of the signals that something needs to be done.

Fuse blown

As already mentioned, a malfunction of this panel element often leads to failure of the entire panel. You can find fuse F6 in the mounting block. If it does burn out, it is very important to identify the cause of the breakdown. Otherwise, the new part will repeat the fate of the previous part and will burn out in the same way. Often the cause of the breakdown lies in a banal electrical circuit short circuit. Once the initial problem has been identified and corrected, you simply need to replace the fuse with a new part.

By the way, often the malfunction of this part becomes the reason that the dashboard and turn signals on the VAZ-2110 do not work. So, if you encounter such a problem, you can safely change the fuse.

Functionality check

After completing the replacement, install the panel inside the car, connect the connectors, but do not rush into final fixation - you still need to make sure that everything works properly.

To do this, turn on the ignition and see if the backlight turns on. Then check whether the indicator lights responsible for:

  • hand brake;
  • oil pressure;
  • fault signal, etc.

Then test the turn signals, headlights and side lights. If everything is in order, then complete the panel assembly.

Instrument needles are jumping

It often happens that they simply start jumping on a scale from minimum to maximum. Typically, the cause of such a malfunction is a poor connection between the contact and ground. Its wire coming from the shield is fixed on the partition separating the engine compartment from the passenger compartment. You can find it by removing the radio from its socket. But if an alarm was installed on your car, most likely, the fastening of this wire was moved to a more convenient place for greater convenience. Usually, experts move it behind the interior trim, not far from the driver’s left foot.

Car owners can expect the same thing after installing a radio. At the moment of fixing its negative cable, perhaps the ground wire of the shield was poorly wrapped. As a result of this oversight, under the influence of vibrations transmitted to the car body, the cable could become loose. This happens very often, and for a long time car owners cannot understand why the dashboard on the VAZ-2010 does not work. It is worth saying that even specialists often wrap the mass wire poorly due to the fact that doing so is not entirely convenient.

If the fastening of this cable turns out to be of good quality, it is worth checking the shield itself. To do this, it must be removed from the place of fixation so that you do not have to disconnect the wires going to the pads.

You need to check the mass cable on the white block X1, going to the first contact. In addition, it is worth checking the voltage on pins 9, 6 and 10 - it should be at least 12 volts. In addition, be sure to pay attention to the condition of the tracks at the back of the panel, along which impulses are transmitted to consumers.

Why doesn't the tachometer work?

This device depends on the correct functioning of: ignition module, ECM, position sensor, trip computer. The controller receives the necessary information from all other nodes and transmits it to the dashboard.

A tachometer failure can manifest itself as follows:

  • the arrow stands still;
  • oscillations in different directions;
  • shift of readings from zero.

If there are such symptoms, then you can check the pad connections and loose fasteners.

It happens that the device fails due to the replacement of high-voltage wires. In this case, many do not take into account that they may have different resistance. This changes the shape of the impulse and fails.

Prevention

To avoid accidentally being left on a long journey without vital instrument readings, you must:

  • change lamps on time;
  • periodically check wires and fastening points;
  • observe the recommended service life of some parts;
  • sometimes clean the terminals and possible places of contamination;
  • do not overload the cigarette lighter;
  • check the quality of wire connections after installing the radio or alarm system;
  • watch the fuses.

Experience shows that most of the problems associated with the failure of the instrument panel can be solved without the participation of specialists, on your own.

Especially when this concerns a vehicle like the Lada 2110. True, you need to have at least the slightest experience working with electronics; if you don’t have such skills, then it’s better to contact a car service center, where the problem will be solved quickly and efficiently.

Cigarette lighter failure

It is its malfunction that often causes the shield to fail. The fact is that many car owners turn on various devices through the cigarette lighter, for example, a special vacuum cleaner, chargers, pumps and other devices. Due to the fact that these gadgets require high current, either the socket itself or fuse F19 often breaks, as a result of which the instrument panel on the VAZ-2110 does not work.

In addition, the cigarette lighter may become damaged if left on for too long. In this case, you can return the instrument panel to functionality by disconnecting the socket block. But it is worth saying that such manipulation will be successful only if fuse F19 is functioning. If it does burn out, it must be replaced.

Conventional incandescent lamps

To remove the shield you will need a flathead and Phillips screwdriver.

Built-in Chandelier

Unscrew the two top screws (as shown in the picture), then carefully remove the panel under the steering column. It is held on top by clamps, and on the bottom by 3 fasteners that just need to be turned.

Under the panel we see 2 more self-tapping screws for fastening the shield; we also unscrew them. Now lower the steering wheel to the lowest position and remove the plastic cover of the shield.

Now all that remains is to unscrew the two screws holding the dashboard itself. They should be unscrewed carefully, as the screws may fall under the panel. It is better to unscrew them with a screwdriver with a magnetized tip.

We pull the panel slightly towards ourselves and see the green block and wiring harness. Disconnect it by pressing the “tab” and pulling slightly upward. After which the instrument panel will be removed.

Tuning

This is what often causes the dashboard to malfunction. Perhaps the new shield was not fixed correctly, which is why it actually does not work. Either when installing the wiring, not all cables were connected, or they were simply bent. In such cases, only individual elements of the dashboard often stop functioning: for example, displays, battery, handbrake or oil pressure indicators, as well as the carburetor choke light. The instrument panel of the VAZ-2110 does not work after tuning - what to do in this case? The first thing to do is replace the wires. Usually, this allows you to easily solve the problem.

Why does the speedometer not work?

A device malfunction has the following symptoms:

  • when driving, the needle freezes or fluctuates;
  • the pointer does not move even when the car is moving;
  • In a cold car, the device works, but after a while it stops functioning.

Some problems can be solved on your own, the main thing is to find out the reason:

  1. Oxidation of contacts that simply need to be cleaned.
  2. The wires are worn out and frayed. Most often, this is indicated by a chaotically moving arrow when starting the engine.
  3. Sensor failure. Repair consists of replacing the element.
  4. Connectors. Dirt periodically gets on them, which negatively affects contact. In this case, you need to clean the contact and check the quality of the connection.
  5. Shaft wear. The only thing that will save the situation is replacing the part.

Diagnostics

It doesn’t matter at all whether the VAZ-2110 dashboard with an 8-valve injector or a 16-valve carburetor does not work; the first step is to diagnose the dashboard itself. After all, its serviceability does not depend in any way on the inside of the car.

Correct diagnosis involves performing several simple manipulations:

  • checking lamps and replacing faulty parts;
  • checking the wiring using an indicator or multimeter;
  • inspecting contacts and cleaning them from oxidation deposits;
  • checking fuses;
  • monitoring the performance of devices.

If the dashboard of a VAZ-2110 with a Euro installation does not work, you should check fuses F18, F19 and F1. In cases with gasoline units, you should also pay attention to parts with numbers: F6 and F10.

What if the sensors feel strange or the needles are attached?

When sensors seem to move erratically or have the longest possible delay, the problem is usually a bad component, such as the device's voltage regulator or a bad ground.

Erratic gauges, or gauges that seem to read uniformly low, are usually caused by a bad tool voltage regulator. In some cases, you can remove the regulator, clean the connector terminals, and reinstall it.

Gauges that read completely all the time are usually caused by a weak or poor ground. If you can locate the ground, either visually or via an electrical diagram, you'll need to make sure it's secure and free of rust or corrosion.

Precautionary measures

When performing dashboard repairs, you should follow some rules:

  • You can change fuses only with the ignition off;
  • monitoring of devices must be carried out as carefully as possible to avoid short circuits;
  • Damaged elements should be soldered using a device with minimal power and a thin nozzle;
  • You need to remove and fix the shield very carefully so as not to inadvertently damage the fastenings.

What is the check responsible for?

So, the check must light up as soon as the vehicle’s SZ is turned on, and go out as soon as the engine starts. This indicates normal operation of the vehicle. Otherwise, if the check light comes on while driving or does not respond at all, diagnostics are needed at a service station.

Why does the check light come on when the ignition is turned on?

First, let’s find out what the purpose of the indicator is. It turns out that the check translated from English literally means “check engine”. In other words, if the indicator lights up while the vehicle is moving, it means that the car’s ECU is sending a clear signal to the driver that there is some kind of malfunction in the operation of the internal combustion engine.
