Review of digital dashboards for Lada Vesta and XRAY (released and in development)

07 September 2021 Lada.Online 85 595 41
Lada Vesta and Lada XRAY are equipped with an analog instrument panel with arrows from the factory, while many modern foreign cars already use electronic instrument panels. However, several companies are developing digital instrument clusters. Some of them are already on sale, and some are still at the project stage. The Lada.Online website has collected all the information about these instrument panels.

Description

Inside the central well on the standard dashboard there is a speedometer dial, where our garage brethren immediately note with satisfaction that there is an extreme figure of 200 (although in reality the Vesta SV can accelerate to 185 km/h at maximum).

At the bottom of the speedometer there is a liquid crystal display, which displays certain current data to inform the driver, which will be discussed below.

And inside the speedometer dial there are many illuminated indication icons, starting with the alarm icon and about extreme brake wear, and ending with signals about engine problems and a lack of engine lubrication.

In the left well of the tidy there is a tachometer with a gradation from 1 to 7, which means the display range is 1 - 7 thousand rpm of the engine, where after 6 thousand (and in fact it should be after 5.5 thousand) - red zone of critically dangerous speeds for the power unit.

The speedometer dial itself, or rather its lower part, is also used to display certain indication signals.

On the right side of the standard Vesta SV dashboard there is a well, which has a two-instrument combination of displaying both the current engine temperature and the current fuel level. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that the engine temperature sensor does not display the heating parameter of the engine coolant, as it was before, but the current temperature of the engine oil. This makes it possible to prevent critical overheating of certain engine components.

As for the fuel level indicator, its gradation is displayed in increments of a quarter of a tank. And the extreme versions of the standard tidy of the Lada Vesta, next to the fuel level sensor, have special icons (probably for cars used for carsharing), which show which side the fuel tank is located on.

This well also contains various indication lights to inform the driver about the operation of certain liftback systems and units (this is exactly the definition of the body design style of the restyled Lada Vesta SV).

The overall assessment of the standard instrument panel of the Lada Vesta in comparison with the instrument panels of the Kalina and even the X-Ray is, in general, an attractive and quite informative dashboard, where the backlight can be either green or orange.

As for the disadvantages of such a device, these are the uninformative, or rather, barely noticeable, intermediate gradations of the scales, especially with a quick glance at them along the way.

Control unit for stove (heater) and air conditioner Lada Vesta

The controls for the stove and air conditioner on Vesta are basically standard.

Left regulator - control of the supply air temperature (The left regulator additionally has the function of turning on the air conditioner); Right - air flow regulation; Buttons in the middle - set the direction of air flow.

Features of the Vesta SV instrument panel

The first Lada Vestas, which began to be equipped with three-well devices, were batches of these cars intended for export deliveries to both Hungary and Germany. As already mentioned at the beginning, since 2017 this dashboard has also been registered in models for the domestic market.

However, like any other equipment, any other cars cannot but improve, since development engineers always take into account the opinions of representatives of the ordinary garage community and carry out tuning updates, including instrument panels. As for the tidy we are considering, these improvements have recently affected:

  • displays of digital values that have become larger and clearer on the LCD screen at the bottom of the speedometer;
  • The backlight now lights up regardless of whether the running optics are turned on. The fact is that due to the glare of the sun on a device without backlight, it is impossible to read information;
  • many options with voice guidance have appeared, starting with a notification about not fastening a seat belt and ending with a reminder to connect both GPS and GLONASS;
  • it is now possible to adjust the volume of voice messages;
  • the display of local time on the device is automatically set using ERA-GLONASS, which is relevant for the Russian user audience in terms of determining local time zones along the way;
  • some indication icons have been added, such as low tire pressure, as well as seat belts not fastened, indicating the front or rear (passenger) row of seats.

And if we are already talking about icons, then it’s time to talk about the most important indication signals and what meaning the designation of certain icons carries.

Adjusting the front seats on Lada Vesta

The height and degree of inclination of the front seats on the Lada Vesta are adjusted using three levers.

They are located on the outside. Two of them are in the horizontal part of the seat, and one is in the vertical (back).

1st lever (longer): when pressed up and down, the seats are adjusted in height - this is a seat lift. 2nd lever: it adjusts the backrest angle.

The 3rd lever provides the degree of lumbar deflection.

It is worth noting that levers 1 and 3 are missing on the passenger seat. Adjustment back and forth occurs via the lower lever, which is located under the seat, on the outside.

Indication icon designations

All this rigmarole of instrument combinations and icons is essentially needed in order to monitor the current state of the car, and even more specifically, in order to respond in time to the emergence of a threat to one’s own safety during the operation of the same Vesta SV. As for the decoding of digital symbols, then:

  1. The tachometer needle should not be allowed to be in the red sector of the device. Also, there is no need to choose such engine speeds that the engine does not stall and that there are no jerks. In this case, the needle should not be lower than at 800 and more than 1200 revolutions.
  2. Indicates that your seat belt is not fastened.
  3. Problems with the active safety system (or airbags).
  4. Warns of brake system failure.
  5. The power steering system may fail.
  6. Signals that there are problems in the engine.
  7. You should pay attention to the battery.
  8. Indicates problems with ABS.
  9. Speedometer needle.
  10. The hood is open or there are problems with its lock.
  11. An icon indicating that the alarm is on.
  12. Alarm about doors not properly closed.
  13. The blinking of these arrows indicates that the corresponding turn signals are turned on and are operating normally.
  14. Location of data on the operation of various systems using a liquid crystal display (see the following photos, as well as a table of decoding of the digital readings of the LCD display).

  15. Antifreeze temperature gauge. At 115 degrees, the red backlight of the device lights up and an intermittent sound alarm sounds.
  16. Indicates low fuel level.
  17. Signals that the side lights are on.
  18. That the low beam optics are on.
  19. That the high beams are on.
  20. The fog lights work normally.
  21. Rear fog lights are included.
  22. Indicates ESP or problems in dynamic stabilization.
  23. It indicates that ESP OFF, in other words, the dynamic stabilization system is disabled.

Installation and repair instructions

How to remove the tidy with your own hands:

  1. After disconnecting the battery, you need to unscrew the two bolts that secure the shield.
  2. Then grab the front of the dash and pull it towards you without any extra effort. Pull until you hear the latches click.
  3. Next, you need to unscrew two more screws with a screwdriver, they are located on the sides of the shield.
  4. Pull the device towards you and disconnect the wiring plugs located on the back side. Dismantle the shield and repair or replace it.

Possible faults

If the Lada Vesta instrument panel begins to work intermittently, this may indicate the following malfunctions:

  1. Poor contact between the device and the on-board network. The connection connector or contacts on it may be damaged.
  2. Failure of one or more sensors. For example, the sensor for speed, crankshaft position, or fuel level has broken down, resulting in incorrect data being displayed on the dashboard.
  3. Mechanical damage to the shield may be due to a strong impact or operation of the device under conditions of constant vibration.
  4. Electronic malfunction of the board; it is better to entrust the solution to such a malfunction to electricians.
  5. The backlight is gone. Most likely, the reason lies in burnt-out light bulbs that simply need to be replaced (the author of the video is the NlCKRUS channel).

Reviews

Positive
1.Gennady: after buying the car I decided to upgrade it a little, starting with the instrument panel. The standard backlight is not enough, and some colors are too bright at night. The replacements were carried out by StoVesta, the guys were smart, they did it quickly and efficiently.
2.Vasily: my positive review of the AvtoSTOLITSA car service center. Installed new diodes on the shield. I am satisfied with the quality and efficiency, no comments.
3.Dmitry: I recommend Auto Service on Lithuanian, I recently installed new wiring. They got it done quickly, the price was affordable, and the craftsmen knew their stuff.
4.Vladlen: my comrades advised me to get service at 6+, service station. Initially I doubted it, but now I’m happy with the advice. Masters are what you need. Feel free to take your car in for repairs, you won’t regret it.
5.Kirill: a month ago I underwent another maintenance, and at the same time I tuned the dashboard. I am satisfied with the quality of the work of the “STO Autopride-SPB” craftsmen, I recommend it to others. Modern equipment, special premises, qualified personnel.
6.Victor: my positive review of the service station “Station No. 1”. They always work by appointment, there are no queues and delays like other service stations. My recommendations, keep it up.
7.Gennady: I visited the StoVesta service station for the first time on the advice of my friends. The guys are great, they know their job. We replaced the dashboard diodes in half an hour, and at the same time carried out a comprehensive diagnostic of the entire car.
Negative
1.Vladlen: I visited Auto Service on Lithuanian twice, I didn’t like it. The staff is small, the mechanics are periodically distracted, we can talk about the quality of work.
2.Kirill: I was serviced at “6+, service station” for six months, now I’m moving on to others. There are no spare parts available, they are inclined to pre-order, the cost of services has increased.
3.Konstantin: after buying Vesta, I was serviced at AvtoSTOlitsa, but now I decided to change the workshop, since the quality of the work has deteriorated, while the prices remained the same.
