The VAZ four-cylinder petrol engine with a displacement of 1.3 liters, which was installed on VAZ 2105 cars, has established itself as a fairly reliable, economical and easy-to-use power unit. The VAZ 2105 engine appeared in 1979 and, with minor changes, was able to last on the assembly line until 2006. Initially, this power unit had a carburetor power system, but later received a reliable injector, which made it possible to significantly increase engine power.

Peculiarities


At the end of the seventies, the Volga automaker actively expanded its offer, releasing new modifications of its cars. A modified engine from the VAZ 21011 was installed on the new VAZ 2105. The main difference between the new engine and the VAZ 21011 is the presence of a belt drive, which made it possible to reduce the noise levels of the engines.

At the same time, the VAZ 2105 engine has a special design, which in cases of a broken timing belt prevents damage to the valves. All this made it possible to significantly increase the reliability of the motor, which was undemanding and easy to maintain.

With its small displacement of 1.3 liters, even the original carburetor version produced 64 horsepower. Subsequently, when the VAZ 2105 engine received an injector, the power figures amounted to more than 70 horsepower. We only note that the injection modification was distinguished by increased requirements for fuel quality and could run exclusively on gasoline with an octane rating of 93.

Like most other VAZ engines, the engine from the VAZ 2105 turned out to be quite reliable and durable. The cylinder block was made of cast iron, and the alloy used was highly resistant to overheating; engine failure due to overheating was rare. This engine was not difficult to repair, which allowed the car owner to carry out all the service and fairly simple repair work independently.

The VAZ 2105 engine, taking into account its small volume, had excellent power indicators and provided the VAZ 2105 with good dynamics. The car accelerated quickly and had a maximum speed of about 140 kilometers per hour. Increased fuel consumption caused certain complaints from owners of cars with this engine.

For example, in urban conditions this engine consumed about 11 liters of fuel. On the highway, fuel consumption was 8 liters per 100 kilometers. Another disadvantage is increased oil consumption, so car owners needed to add oil every 2-3 thousand kilometers and change it frequently. Consumption per thousand kilometers was about 700 grams of oil. Moreover, this was not considered a breakdown, and it was not possible to somehow fix such an oil problem.

There are different carburetors and injectors: float - it is the most popular and famous compared to the others; needle-shaped - it is less common; and a very rare one - a bubbler carburetor, this carburetor is not known to everyone; it is used very rarely. Malfunctions

Engine malfunctions and repairs 2105

The VAZ 2105 engine is the same 21011, the power is slightly lower than that of the eleventh, the main difference is that the VAZ 2105 engine has a belt. The use of a timing belt is designed to reduce engine noise. One of the positive qualities is that the 2105 engine does not bend the valves. Tuning


It should be said that increasing the power of the VAZ 2105 engine invariably led to a decrease in its service life. For example, after increasing power to 90 horsepower, the average engine life was only 80,000 kilometers before major repairs. That is why the car owner had to decide whether he wanted to increase power, while invariably sacrificing reliability indicators.

  1. An effective way to tune a 2105 engine is to bore the cylinders to a piston with a diameter of 82 millimeters. Note that such work is a certain complexity, so tuning the VAZ 2105 engine should only be performed by an experienced specialist. At the same time as the cylinders are bored, sports camshafts, a new oil pump and compressor can be installed. In the latter case, the power of the power unit reaches 100 horsepower.
  2. In extreme versions of VAZ 2105 engine tuning, the engine is replaced with a VAZ 413 rotary engine. The power of this power unit is 140 horsepower. This tuning allows you to increase the maximum speed of the car to 180 kilometers per hour, and acceleration to hundreds takes about 9-10 seconds.

First, let's look at the main complex of this mechanism: an autonomous idle system, a float chamber, a valve to close the idle speed, an econostat, a system used for dosing, a throttle valve, a compartment for removing gases from the crankcases and a transition system for both gases. This seemingly very small amount of information is already enough for you to start cleaning and adjusting the VAZ 2105 yourself.

It is after cleaning the carburetor that adjustment occurs. But you need to remember that you shouldn’t look for breakdowns where there are none. In order to correctly and well adjust the VAZ 21054 carburetor, you need to very carefully consider and remember all the contents of the mechanism. It is important to clean all parts from dust and foreign bodies. It is also necessary to wash the float chamber and clean the strainer. Having completed all of the above, proceed to cleaning the air jets and adjusting the system for the floats, trigger and idle speed.

The strainer is an important part of the carburetor and needs to be checked from time to time. As a rule, the check is carried out every 60,000 revolutions. To check the strainer, you need to use manual fuel supply and fill the float chamber with fuel. After closing the valve, you need to slide the top part of the filter and remove it.

In terms of its design, the VAZ 2105 is a rear-wheel drive sedan with four doors for five passengers. Based on this model, the VAZ 2107 and the VAZ 2104 station wagon were later produced. With its appearance, the VAZ 2105 was fully consistent with the fashion trends of the early 80s.
