Priora stove with Panasonic air conditioning does not work

Tips for motorists

As an additional option, you can install air conditioning on the Lada Priora passenger car. They are supplied to the VAZ automobile plant by two foreign companies. The first company, Panasonic Taiwan Co. Ltd, is located in Taiwan, and the second is in South Korea (Halla Climate Contro). Here is one of the air conditioners from these companies that will be installed on your car. The designs of these air conditioners are not fundamentally different, but their components are not interchangeable.

An air conditioner malfunction associated with a failure of the electromagnetic clutch of the compressor drive can be determined by ear or by tachometer readings. Since with a working electromagnetic clutch, when the air conditioner is turned on, the crankshaft rotation speed decreases, which leads to a noticeable change in the tone of the running engine, and if at this moment you look at the tachometer, it will show that the crankshaft speed has decreased. And if, after pressing the air conditioning button, the crankshaft speed remains at the same level, it means that the electromagnetic clutch did not work.

Clogged filter

Experienced Prior owners have developed an algorithm of actions to find out where the heating system is leaking.

First approach

Before all checks, you need to make sure that the fan is working - it would be unreasonable to go deeper if the main element does not spin. The next steps are as follows.

  • The engine heats up to the desired temperature;
  • The pipes leading to the heater are probed. Both are hot - okay, one is at ambient temperature - which means there is no filler circulation;
  • The hood opens, the tap is located and turns to another position. If it has become stuck, you will have to soak it immediately.
  • The system is checked for leaks. The detected ones are eliminated: a constant lack of coolant is also the cause of cold airflow;
  • The tap is working, there is no leak - the plug is removed from the tank and the liquid level is checked. Often an air lock forms in the tank; in this case, the coolant is topped up to normal, and the gas pedal is pressed sharply several times. The fluid circulation will resume and squeeze the plug out of the reservoir;
  • To make the last step more effective, it is better to drive the front end onto the nearest hillock so that the car’s radiator is lower than the stove radiator.

Second approach

When (or if) both pipes are filled with hot liquid, we move on to the dampers.

  • Again you will have to climb under the hood, this time to observe the operation of the damper;
  • If it is warped or jammed, you can try to gently shake it with your hand from inside the cabin. To do this, remove the central deflector and unscrew the plastic guides to reach the stuck element. Access is only possible for a thin limb, so it is advisable to invite a female person to the procedure if she does not mind;
  • If there are serious problems with the damper (the fastenings have rusted, the plastic has warped due to temperature or it has cracked), alas, you will be faced with difficult work: you will have to disassemble half of the heating system.

Third approach

The microreducer is a complete headache. First, its status is checked:

  • The left handle is moved to the “min” position. After a 15-second wait, the engine starts;
  • The controller that monitors the self-propelled guns is disconnected;
  • The tester measures readings
    on both contacts. The resistance should be 800-1200 Ohms for units 1303.3854; 1313.3854 and 1333.3854; for controller 1323.3854 the norm is 3600-5000;
  • The same operation is carried out in the “max” position. Now the data is in the range of 3200-3500 for the first group and 1200-1600 for 1323.3854;
  • If there is no resistance or its unchangeability, the track on the sensor has been erased. It is not sold separately, so you will have to change the entire MMR. It is clear that not all the reasons why the stove does not work and cold air blows on a Priora can be eliminated on your own.

However, by following the above recommendations, you will at least understand what is preventing you from driving comfortably.
And also estimate upcoming expenses. For example, if you have to change the entire SAUO unit, you will have to pay about 1.5 thousand rubles for it. plus the work of an electrician. The Lada Priora car enjoys the well-deserved love and respect of our compatriots. A good price-quality ratio, the abundance of spare parts and excellent maintainability make it a leader in the domestic market. However, being the result of Russian development, this car also has some disadvantages.

As you know, Priora is a deep restyling of the previous model - the 2110th. Therefore, most components and assemblies moved from the “ten”, including the design of the heating and ventilation systems for the interior. Most of the main parts of this system are “decimals”.

Therefore, such unification is very helpful during repairs. Unfortunately, this feature backfires when malfunctions occur. There are quite frequent cases when the stove on a Priora does not work. The situations are different. In one case there may be problems with the fan, in another - with the dampers, etc.

What does the air conditioning system in Priora consist of?

Regardless of the company, the air conditioner kit for Lada should contain the following elements:

  • Air conditioning compressor assembly;
  • Condenser with receiver assembly;
  • Evaporation block assembly;
  • Air conditioner radiator for Lada Priora;
  • Highways;
  • Cushion bracket;
  • Generator bracket;
  • Tensioner bracket;
  • Tensioner roller;
  • Compressor drive belt;
  • Rubber seal;
  • Installation kit;
  • Wire harnesses.

Operating mode of climate control and air conditioning on Lada Priora

The factory installs climate control on the Priora in all trim levels, and in all air conditioners it is turned on in the “Auto” position. In this mode, the electronic control unit, which is located behind the center console, receives data on the ambient air temperature and the interior air temperature. Based on this data, the ECU regulates the “force” that the “conder” produces to maintain the mark set by the person.

For example, if a person has set a constant temperature of +19 ֯С, the ECU will regulate the power of the air conditioner, constantly sending it commands. Working at this pace, the air temperature in the cabin will be maintained at +19 °C.

Malfunctions of the heater control unit

The operation of the heating system is completely dependent on it distributing air flows, the intensity of airflow to various zones of the cabin and the temperature regime. If it fails, the stove naturally stops working.

There may be malfunctions of the switches (“twisters”). The malfunction of the control unit should be checked last, since this unit is electronic and can rarely be repaired. Therefore, to check it, it is advisable to temporarily replace it with one that is known to work, borrowing it from a friend or in a store with a deposit.

Air conditioner malfunction

A Conder can break down; the reason for this is not always the negligence of manufacturers towards their product. Most often, a small component fails, which can be easily replaced and then continue to use the Conder. If the air conditioner does not turn on, then:

  • There is damage in the wiring;
  • Thermostat is faulty;
  • The fuse has blown;
  • Lack of freon in the system;
  • Pressure sensor malfunction;
  • Excessive system pressure.

If the air conditioner does not work, then this is not a reason to throw it away. All the necessary spare parts for an air conditioner can be found in Lada, they will not cost much.

Preparatory stage

Elimination of defects in the operation of the heater should begin provided that the unit and the engine cooling system are in order, in order to eliminate their influence. To do this, you need to make sure that the antifreeze is poured in the proper amount, the engine is in good condition and is operating normally. And then find out why the stove on the Priora doesn’t work. First you should check the coolant level in the expansion tank. Next, you need to start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. Then you need to check the serviceability of the thermostat - feel the thick hoses that go from it to the car radiator.

The top should become evenly hot. If the rubber hose is still cool, the thermostat is faulty. In this case, you can continue working only after replacing this element. Fortunately, its price is low.

Another reason why the engine may not warm up to operating temperature is a leaky expansion tank cap. It should keep excess pressure in the system. Often, by simply replacing this cover, it is possible to completely get rid of problems.

On the Priora, unlike the 10, the cooling system is organized differently. And the formation of an air lock there is virtually excluded. It can appear when the system is leaking or when antifreeze is poured into a one hundred percent empty expansion tank. This can be fixed quite easily. You need to drive your front wheels up some hill in a warm car and vigorously accelerate in place. In this case, the expansion tank cap should be removed.

Does fuel consumption increase with air conditioning?

In order to drive air inside the device, cool it and release it outside, you need to take energy. What contributes to energy production? Of course the engine is running. The harder it works, the more devices can receive stable “recharge”, and, accordingly, the higher the engine consumption becomes.

Initially, Lada is not ready for the air conditioner to operate, so it has to use additional resources in the form of fuel. Consumption from 100 km increases by 1 liter. By the way, to be fair, we note that the dynamics of the car do not decrease.

Air Conditioner Installation Guide

Before you complete this task, you need to decide which option you will use. There are quite a lot of manufacturers of air conditioning units on the market today, so the purchased unit must meet the requirements and characteristics of the car. The device must have a long service life, resistant to vibrations that are typical for cars used to drive on our roads. It's no secret that our car enthusiasts are more inclined to trust Conder cars and products in general from foreign manufacturers.

Factory air conditioner, Halla and Panasonic - differences, articles

Most often, Conders from August, Panasonic and Halla are considered as an installation option. The Russian product is cheaper, but it has its disadvantages:

  • Short-lived compressor;
  • Lack of cabin air filter;
  • To charge coolant you will have to remove the radiator;
  • The evaporator housing is made of plastic and is easily deformed.

But there is good, healthy competition between the other two brands. If you look at and buy Halla or Panasonic, you need to take into account their differences:

  • Airflow speeds. Panasonic has 16, Halla has only 4;
  • Halla's engine radiator will house the engine cooling fan along with the air conditioning condenser;
  • Panasonic's control knobs are capable of turning on the glass blowing, directing all the power only to them. Halla does not have such buttons or handles;
  • Panasonic's upper line is flexible, while Hull's is aluminum.

The entire Halla air conditioner for Priora can be purchased for around 30 thousand rubles - slightly cheaper than a kit from Panasonic. Installation of a Panasonic air conditioner in a technical center costs approximately 8,500 rubles, and Halla is a little cheaper (some prices are the same). It will be easy to distinguish them by article number. Panasonic has 2170-8122020-01, Calla has 2170-8122020-11.

How to connect an air conditioner to a Priora with power steering

The Lada has one sin, if the car has power steering, then on such a Priora, one of the power steering pumps is located where the Condera compressor is installed, so during the installation process you have to play tag, rearranging the elements of the engine compartment. The whole procedure may take a long time, but it will be intense. To install a Conder on a car with power steering, you need:

  1. First of all, the terminal is removed from the battery. The front bumper, windshield wipers, hood, frill, and windshield wiper trapezoid are removed from the car.
  2. Inside, the air filter housing, cooling system fan, and throttle valve with corrugation are removed. Next, the coolant is drained (that’s why it was worth buying it!), and the radiator is removed.
  3. Unscrew the brake master cylinder from the vacuum seal.
  4. Approach the pedals through the interior - unscrew the four nuts of the pedal assembly and remove the pedals.
  5. Remove the old heater, putting it aside.
  6. Suck out the fluid from the expansion tank, turn the steering wheel and repeat the procedure until the fluid stops flowing into it.
  7. Remove the high pressure pump line bolt and disconnect it from the bracket. Carefully remove the lower “guitar”, and then the pump bracket.
  8. Move the pump under the upper engine mount. To do this, take two plates from the kit for attaching to the upper engine mount.
  9. Carefully lay the lines so that they do not bend or rub against moving parts. Fix so that the lines do not wobble or wear out on dynamic elements.
  10. Place the compressor bracket, attach the compressor to it, and install the radiator.
  11. Install the engine cooling radiator and fans.
  12. Replace the heater damper micromotor, fan speed controller and the fan itself from the old heater to the new one.
  13. Firmly attach the heater to the engine panel.
  14. Lay lines from the compressor to the radiator.
  15. Unscrew the front engine mount, but support the engine in its “own” position using a jack. Route the belt.
  16. Pour fluid into the power steering, coolant, return the brake cylinder, pedal assembly, throttle valve with trunk and air filter housing, hood, wipers, frill.

Check the tightness and strength of the installation, add refrigerant.

Priora stove diagram

What is included in the heating system

The heater is located in the engine compartment in the area of the right windshield trim. It is attached to the front panel. The entrance to the heating system is occupied by a filter, which is responsible for cleaning the air used for heating and ventilation.

The design of the Priora stove consists of a number of elements:

  • filter cover;
  • filter, which is used for heating and ventilation;
  • heater housing;
  • micromotor gearbox;
  • radiator;
  • additional resistor on the fan;
  • fan.

Principle of operation

In addition, the Priora heater device includes important components, without which normal operation of the stove would be impossible. These include the following mechanisms:

  1. The operation of the control unit is based on turning the knobs, each of which is responsible for one or another system parameter.
  2. The cabin temperature sensor allows you to maintain the required temperature at a constant level. This mechanism is located in the headliner trim.
  3. The additional resistor is located in the fan housing along with the fan, radiator, filter and damper.
  4. The radiator is connected through hoses to the system that cools the engine. During vehicle operation, coolant circulates from the engine to the radiator all the time. The heater is controlled by a damper, which changes the direction of outside air, directing it towards or past the radiator. The damper can be located in an intermediate position, which provides for the division of the external air flow: one part is directed to the radiator, and the other passes past it.
  5. The micromotor is responsible for controlling the movement of the damper. It is located on the left side of the body. The micromotor gearbox has an output shaft, which is connected to the axis on the damper.

This is exactly the design of the Priora stove (2010). But we have not yet considered all working issues.

Air flow distribution

As mentioned earlier, the heated air is distributed throughout the entire cabin, rather than blowing at one point. This heating turns out to be more efficient. Such heating features are provided for by the design of the Priora heater. The following elements are responsible for performing these functions:

  • air ducts from the side deflector and glass blower;
  • air distribution housing;
  • flap;
  • damper gear motor;
  • air duct for blowing feet.

The air distribution housing and air ducts are mounted behind the instrument panel. Inside the air distributor housing there are dampers that are responsible for changing the direction of air flow. The rotation of the dampers is the result of a gearmotor, which is located on the air distribution housing.

When the car is moving, air enters the cabin under high-speed pressure. For this, holes are used that are located in the wind window trim on the right. To make the air flow more powerful and independent of the speed of the car, a heater fan is provided. The electronic fan motor can operate at four speeds.

How to refill - instructions

We must not allow a decrease in the volume of freon - this will have a detrimental effect on the system. To independently fill freon into a car, you will need a test connector (a set of tools for manually filling refrigerant). Using it, you need to do the following:

  • Attach the freon cylinder to the Conder valve and turn the test connector valve. Press the gas pedal a couple of times.
  • Freon will be evenly distributed throughout the system. The main thing is not to overdo it, because if it is overloaded, the system will not work better.
  • Disconnect the cylinder from the system and close the valve.

This method of refueling the air conditioner is suitable for almost all VAZ cars - for example, the Lada Vesta can be refueled in the same way.

Air conditioning is a necessary condition for comfort in the summer. Previously, it was not so necessary, because a person was unlikely to stand in car queues for several hours, under the scorching sun, and it was possible to ventilate the interior after parking in the heat by opening all the doors. If Conder has become accessible as a benefit, it means that it is possible and even necessary to use it.

Car heating system malfunctions

In a Lada Priora car, the heater regulator does not work due to a malfunction of the multi-position switch or a defect in the blower fan. When troubleshooting this problem, when the Priora stove fan does not work, you should look at the fuse box, which is the main source of trouble for the operation of the ventilation device. Many defects in a car's climate system are directly related to the operation of the vehicle's cooling system.

If the fan device is in good working order, but the stove on the Priora does not heat well, then the defect should be looked for by a sequential method of cutting off the tested elements. So, the stove on the Priora is not working well and the interior is quite cool:

First stage

: with the engine brought to the optimal temperature, we check the 2 pipes connected to the heater for temperature values. If both products are hot, then there is no circulation of air masses, and if one pipe is hot and the other is cold, then this indicates a lack of circulation of the aqueous solution in the system. We carry out diagnostics of the heater tap in order to deal with the cooling system solution (water, antifreeze).

For this purpose, open the hood and move the tap from one position to another. If there is a leak from the heating system, then it must be eliminated, because... an insufficient amount of coolant can provoke a situation where cold air blows from the Priora’s stove and the cabin becomes cool. If the tap is rusty and cannot be adjusted, you can leave it in this position during the summer when the heating system is not in use. Closer to cold weather it needs to be replaced.

Second phase

: when the tap is in the working position and the stove refuses to work, remove the filler plug of the radiator tank and check for the presence of coolant fluid. In case of formation of the so-called “plugs from the air”, we bring the coolant level to the maximum value (sometimes it happens that in a Priora cold air blows from the stove due to a lack of coolant). After this, we turn on the power plant and sharply press the accelerator pedal several times, which will provoke a coolant circulation and, under its influence, the water pump will squeeze out the air layer plug.

In order for the air masses to move faster to the output level, it is necessary to drive onto an elevation so that the radiator is lower than the radiator of the cooling system. So, cooler circulation has been restored, 2 pipes have become hot, but the stove on the Priora still doesn’t work well?

Third stage

: the dampers may not be working, because an open lever on the instrument panel does not mean at all that the dampers have duplicated this command. Failure of the dampers may be associated with loosening of the fastenings of the heater rods and taps, which blocks them in summer mode.

With the hood open, it wouldn’t hurt to check whether the Priora’s heater dampers are working or not, and also to clean the heater from last year’s debris and leaves. If, even after these cleaning measures, the system does not work well or does not function at all, then we go directly to the pipes.

Fourth stage

: we check the temperature conditions of the pipes with the stove on. If the fan is in working condition, two pipes are hot, but one begins to cool down after a while - it is necessary to change the water pump due to poor coolant circulation. Some car enthusiasts manage to install a small water pump under the heater radiator.

Having started testing the heating system, we bring the technological process to the end:

  1. The coolant level in the expansion tank should be between o and “max”.
  2. We test the coolant circulation process in the expansion tank. Its absence is determined as a defect in the water pump or clogging of the cooling complex.

This completes the diagnostics of the heating system.

On a Lada Priora car, the heater is no longer just a stove. In fact, this is a full-fledged climate control device. In terms of its characteristics, the Priora stove is not inferior to foreign devices of this type. But like any mechanism, the Priora stove can fail. This article provides an overview of the heater and the features of its repair.
