Causes of corrugation destruction
Two types of reasons can be distinguished that affect the reduction in service life, rapid or instantaneous failure of the corrugations, not only of the Priora, but of all cars without exception.
External factors: corrugation is a risk group among parts exposed to the external environment.
- Shocks while driving. When the car is driving on a gravel road, the braid can be damaged by a stone flying out from under the wheels. Lada Priora can also run over protruding obstacles - road unevenness, bumps, etc., threatening to rip the corrugation.

- Catalytic converter clogged. Internal pressure, having reached a critical level, destroys the corrugation from the inside.
- Worn muffler mountings. Increasing vibration wears out the corrugation faster.
- Malfunction of other systems. First of all, the condition of the corrugation can be affected by wear of the engine mounts. In this case, it is also subject to greater load.
Why do you need a muffler corrugation?
During operation, the car engine not only vibrates, but also noticeably “nods” when releasing and applying gas. That is why it is mounted on elastic cushion supports that compensate for vibrations and dives. But a muffler is hermetically attached to the exhaust manifold of the engine (how could it be otherwise), which - albeit through rubber hangers - is attached to the car body. To connect a relatively stationary muffler and a vibrating engine, you need a flexible adapter - a corrugation, which plays the role of a damper. The corrugation can be called an elastic fuse for the exhaust system - without it, the muffler and exhaust manifold of the engine would be destroyed by vibrations. Most cars have a muffler corrugation, but not all - sometimes a sealing hinge ring made of graphite, tightened with special bolts and springs, is used as a damper. The choice of engineers is influenced by the location of the engine in the engine compartment (longitudinal or transverse), its vibration load and the length of the exhaust system. Some old cars managed without a corrugation or a hinge ring - but these are rather exceptions. Most modern cars require a full muffler corrugation to protect the exhaust system.
Why is the Priore corrugation needed and why is the Priore corrugation replaced?
A running engine transmits vibration to the exhaust system and body. To reduce its level, reduce noise from the exhaust wave, as well as chatter, loads on other elements (for example, to protect against the risk of loosening suspension elements) and overheating of the pipe, a corrugation is installed on the Lada Priora. With triple braiding, which is more rigid, it is used for both gasoline and diesel vehicles. It makes sense to install it on used cars as well.
The design of the exhaust system "Lada-Priora"
The exhaust gas exhaust system on the Lada Priora is simple in structure and similar to the exhaust systems of most budget cars. It can be divided into three components:
- exhaust manifold with gas neutralizer;
- additional muffler including a resonator;
- main muffler.
All three parts are hermetically connected to each other. The main and additional mufflers are attached to the bottom of the car on rubber suspensions. The exhaust manifold is connected directly to the engine.
Priora is available in three body styles: sedan, station wagon and hatchback. Functionally, the exhaust systems of cars in different bodies do not differ from each other, however, due to the difference in dimensions, mufflers for different versions differ in the length of the pipes, the shape of their bends and the number of rubber suspensions. So, on hatchbacks the mufflers are somewhat shorter than on a sedan, and on station wagons the number of mounts will be greater.
