DEVICE AND FUNCTIONALITY OF THE LADA XRAY RAISED FLOOR

This product is installed in the trunk instead of the factory soft floor, the geometry and dimensions completely match the contours of the internal space of the XRay trunk, so it is easy to install, but without gaps. It is made of thick plywood, so it can withstand local loads of up to 100 kg, which is several times greater than the capabilities of its standard counterpart. The outside is completely upholstered in carpet, which means it is pleasant to the touch and fits perfectly into the interior of the luggage compartment.

It consists of three sections, fastened together with hidden hinges, which allows you to fold it in parts in different combinations for access to the spare wheel and accessories lying near the spare tire. When folded, it forms a flat floor.

Lada Xray trunk: a lot or a little?

So, we don’t know whether the trunk volume of 361 liters can be considered sufficient, large or small for the Lada xray. This number is not the limit for cars, so comparisons will have to be made with other vehicles of the same class. For example, the X Ray trunk volume is only 9 liters less than the Hyundai Solaris and 28 liters less than the KIA Rio. At the same time, it has significantly greater capacity than the trunks of the Renault Sandero and Ford Fiesta. In this regard, for the Lada Xray, a trunk of such capacity looks quite acceptable and even a good solution, and in terms of this functionality alone the car can compete with foreign analogues. Perhaps the above comparison is not entirely correct, but such high hatchbacks in this price range, available to domestic consumers, are a rare occurrence, and it remains to be compared with the foreign cars most familiar to our average person.

In general, modern passenger cars are equipped with trunks with a volume of 300 to 500 liters, if you do not take into account purely sports models or semi-trucks with a universal body, which are rarely sold and are produced in limited quantities. Therefore, we can conclude that for a Lada Xray car the trunk volume is 361 liters. can be considered average for all passenger cars, regardless of class. A significant increase in the size of the X-ray trunk can lead to either an increase in the dimensions of the car or a decrease in the usable space of the cabin, which will be primarily felt by passengers.

Lada XRAY is a compact crossover (or a high hatchback, as you wish) from a domestic manufacturer. The car, assembled at the Tolyatti plant, went on sale at the very beginning of last year.

During this time, he gained some popularity among car enthusiasts. Of course, there are some shortcomings, but thanks to the low price and wide functionality, some sins can be forgiven. In the article, we’ll talk about an interesting feature of the new miracle of AvtoVAZ - the luggage compartment. Let's look at the trunk x rack in detail.

Trunk dimensions of Lada x Rey

In order to find out how good the trunk is in the XRAY, you need to understand the overall dimensions of the car. The length, height and width of the machine are: 4,164 mm, 1,570 mm and 1,764 mm, respectively. The volume of the luggage compartment in liters is 376 liters.

At first glance, it seems a little small, but if you fold the rear seats, then its dimensions increase to 1,207 liters. And if, in addition to all this, the front passenger seat is folded out, then the volume becomes about 1,514 liters.

The XRAY trunk is not particularly large. In addition to the low loading height, there are also convenient hooks for bags, a double bottom, mounting loops and a 12 V socket. Not a bad set for an inexpensive model

Especially when you compare the XRAY with its direct competitor, the Renault Sandero Stepway, on the basis of which the crossover from AvtoVAZ was built. Despite the fact that the width and length of the French car are slightly larger, X-Ray is 48 mm taller than Sandero.

Based on the average dimensions of the XRAY, we can conclude that the dimensions of the car trunk are the most optimal: there’s simply no point in doing more. In any case, for those who have too little space, the car can always be equipped with a roof rack, of which there are a large number on the market.

Pros and cons of the trunk

The trunk volume of the X-Ray is really small, but if you fold the rear seats, the displacement increases several times, which allows you to transport long cargo, such as skis or construction boards.

Volume is volume, but what about comfort inside the luggage compartment? Everything here is quite good: there is nothing superfluous in the trunk, the floor is perfectly flat, and the wheel arches are hidden from the owner’s eyes and do not protrude from the sides. The top shelf can be removed if necessary.

There are also small hooks on the walls so that you can hook the shelf. An interesting feature of the trunk of the Tolyatti crossover is the double floor.

It sounds tempting, but in reality, this is an almost useless and not very convenient function. The only positive aspect of the “double bottom” is the presence of clamps in the upper part. They make it possible to secure cargo with special straps so that it does not “ride” around the trunk.

The back of the rear sofa in XRAY folds at a slight angle, which is not very convenient, because the loading area is uneven. But the rear bumper does not protrude beyond its plane. This makes it easier to load things inside the trunk and reduces the risk of damage to the bumper.

Directly in front of the trunk there is a metal protruding part of the body, a kind of threshold. The fact is that this threshold is simply painted, there are no linings on it, which threatens this part of the trunk with scratches and abrasions.

The engineers overlooked this, because even the Niva had plastic linings in that place. The rear door of the car, leading to the luggage compartment, turned out to be quite weighty, sometimes you need to strain a little to lower it. But thanks to its weight, the door closes easily, even if you release it in the middle of its trajectory.

Results

Concluding the review, I would like to say that the XRAY trunk is fully consistent with the specifics of the segment. Of course, there are a couple of unpleasant details in it that are not so much annoying, but rather simply cause slight bewilderment.

Otherwise, this is a completely optimal solution for such a car. AvtoVAZ engineers did a good job, both on the overall design of the car and on the luggage compartment. After all, there aren't many tall hatchbacks on the market that offer this kind of boot space.

The new AVTOVAZ product (Lada XRAY) has many features. For example, this crossover uses LED running lights for the first time, and the trunk has a double bottom (raised floor or subfloor 10 cm high). The disadvantage of this luggage space is that the things in it move randomly and rattle when the car moves. Let's look at a simple way to properly organize the space of a standard Xray raised floor.

The idea for modification is to install delimiters, which can be made from pieces of plywood 8 mm thick. Their dimensions are shown in the diagram:

For aesthetics, you can cover the resulting parts with self-adhesive carpet (or use a furniture stapler for covering). After installing such an organizer in the XRAY trunk, the sides of the structure will rest against the plastic trim, and at the back against the trunk opening. Only the edges near the rear seats are not trimmed; there we leave a distance of 2-3 cm.

The resulting demarcated space under the boot floor prevents items from moving around during travel. Another advantage of this design is that it is assembled without a single nail and, if necessary, can be neatly folded and put aside.

We transform the X-Ray interior into a sleeping place.

Today we have a compact crossover - Lada X-Ray.
The car has a hatchback appearance and good ground clearance (especially in the cross-country version), thanks to which the car is actively used by fans of non-extreme travel with the ability to go a little further than an ordinary puzoter, where a transformable interior will be very useful. It’s not for nothing that the manufacturer called its brainchild “compact”; the interior and luggage compartment are, indeed, quite ascetic in size for a crossover. In the photo below you can see the dimensions in cm.

But you can still organize a sleeping place in X-Ray. And in two ways.

Method one:

We lower the backs of the rear seats to the maximum possible horizontal position;
We remove the front headrest from the front passenger seat and lower the back of the seat to a horizontal state and remove the luggage rack;

We get a sleeping place with a width of 100 cm, a length of 195 cm in its longest part, 150 cm in its shortest part. The main advantage is that the bed is suitable for fairly tall people. But a place with some surface differences, which can only be smoothed out with an inflatable mat.

Method two:

We move the front seats as far forward as possible and lower the backrests towards the windshield.

Remove the lower part of the rear seat. To do this, find the latches on the back side and pull them up, then remove the front latches from the grooves and remove the lower part of the structure.

We bring the back of the rear seat to a horizontal position. In the space between the front seats and the back of the rear seat we put any soft things that we always have when traveling.
We have a sleeping area 178x100 cm with a completely horizontal surface. We put a rug on top - the sleeping place is ready.

Well, a small addition. The transformable X-Reys in the article have a raised floor, which is what makes the surface of the final bed flat. If your yard does not have this option, you will have to additionally level out this unevenness.

Weaknesses x ray

Today, when enough time has passed since the “birth” of the car, we can draw conclusions regarding expectations and reality. The first wave of test drives was picked up by automotive journalists, who subsequently began to echo statements from owners who became happy owners of production cars. So, the main disadvantages that were identified experimentally include:

Absence of any plastic trim on the fenders and sills. This, at first glance, insignificant detail can immediately disqualify the car from claiming the title of crossover, since all potentially dangerous off-road areas are simply painted. This suggests that meeting this car with poor road conditions will threaten the rapid loss of its original appearance, from which nothing protects the car.
The car is not maneuverable. Its lateral stability capabilities seem to hint that the car is simply not designed for this. When trying to turn into a corner at high speed, be prepared to feel the resistance of the car, in the form of a large roll.
There is no reach adjustment for the steering wheel. On the one hand, we are talking about a budget car, for which this omission is excusable, but this can be safely written down as a disadvantage, since this fact affects the convenience of driving.
Drum brakes are installed at the rear. Their installation is easily explained by the budget concept of the car, but car enthusiasts claim that they would be willing to pay extra in order to correct this misunderstanding. In fact, the drums are able to provide the necessary braking, which has been proven by various tests, but the opinion of car enthusiasts is adamant.
Controversial ABS. According to the manufacturers, its configuration exactly corresponds to the off-road conditions of Russian open spaces, but this concept does not always work. It is noted that its operating mode is more suitable for driving on hills (in this case, it is surprising that they did not add a diesel option).
There is no gas strut in the hood. A trifle, but unpleasant, especially considering the fact that 14 Lada models have it.
The body is a tinsmith's nightmare. Yes, beautiful, noble. In some places, it even smells like Cayenne, but that’s all before the first accident. When receiving dents that in any way touch the branded X, the owner can expect only one outcome - purchasing a new body part. There can be no talk of straightening, since even eminent craftsmen assure that complete restoration of the geometry of the tin is beyond their control.

It is also necessary to add a few words about the salon. The following details are confusing:

Lack of armrest. For some drivers, this feature is by no means critical, but there are also those who cannot imagine driving without this functional component of the car’s interior. In addition, the armrest provides additional functional space, which is never superfluous in a car.
Oak plastic interior. This is rather the norm, since we should not forget about the budget of the car as a whole. Its “grainy” pattern does not add attractiveness, but also does not cause increased accumulation of dirt and dust.

In addition to the above nuances, there are those that are quite realistic and within the power of every car enthusiast to change.

Vesta raised floor in the trunk

The luggage compartment of the Lada Vesta in the SV Cross configuration has a raised floor (removable floor). It consists of two panels that are interchangeable with each other. If you fold down the rear seats and create a flat floor, you can use raised floor panels on the rear and front sides.

Under the raised floor there are two interchangeable organizers, as shown in the picture. The volume of the luggage compartment can be increased to transport large cargo. To do this, the organizer frames are installed on top of the raised floor.

Raised floor panels cannot be used without the support of the organizer, otherwise they may be damaged.

If the panel is installed at an angle, it is prohibited to drive the vehicle. This may damage the panel. When installing or removing the removable trunk floor, be careful not to injure yourself.

What kind of oil to pour into the radiator?

Each of the engines that are offered to choose from, by their nature, imposes the same requirements during operation. However, there is one difficulty. Depending on the operating conditions, the machine will require a certain oil. Speaking of a universal choice, it is advisable to give preference to synthetics, but the engine accepts other options. The choice should be made as follows: high load - synthetics, medium load - semi-synthetics, rare trips - even mineral will do. By the way, if we are talking about the northern regions, preference should still be given to semi-synthetics - they perform better at low temperatures.

Folding raised floor

Wanting to be on trend, Little by little upgrading the equipment of my Xray to the Top level))), I made a raised floor, but not a simple one, but a gold one with a folding half, for convenience and quick access to the bins of the homeland. I found a drawing of a standard raised floor for the Xreys here. In Ob I bought a sheet of FSF plywood measuring 1220x810 and 9mm thick. After taking measurements of the trunk, I decided not to do it as stock. According to the measurements, it turned out that a sheet measuring 945x810mm fits normally and there is still a little gap left for the thickness of the carpet. However, I was very lucky with the width of the sheet. As a result, a 275mm strip was simply sawed off from a sheet of plywood, from which I might later make some partitions (or maybe not, as always, it all depends on laziness))). I also tried on the back side and cut out pieces for the raised floor supports and a slot for the piece of iron. And when I tried this first option on in place, the thought came to me that if you suddenly need to crawl under the raised floor, and there are already bags, backpacks, packages (in moderate quantities) in the trunk, then you will have to either unload the trunk, which is lazy, or lift the whole swag on this sheet of plywood. Therefore, it is necessary to make a folding half. A distance of 36 cm was measured from the side closest to the bumper and the false floor was sawn into two parts. Both parts were sanded and painted with something like a stain and varnish from Leroy. As a loop I used a wide 5cm corsage ribbon, glued it to Moment-88 and additionally nailed it with 6mm staples.

Ambush - the first attempt to fold the shelf into place in the trunk ended in failure, it did not go “on top”. I had to saw off the 3x3 corners (circled in red). At the same time, it turned out to be an unexpected life hack - it was no longer necessary to use a collective farm handle for lifting the shelf, especially since I forgot about it when I further covered it with carpet)))

I decided to leave it like this, because no one will ever see the unpasted distant part (or almost no one)

So that the folding raised floor could lie in the trunk without any crossbars, the following stops were cut from thick getinaks:

They were covered with carpet and glued to the plastic of the sides of the trunk with double-sided tape. The adhesive tape does not carry any load; it is only needed to secure the supports to the plastic. I hope they don’t come off, otherwise it will be self-tapping screws or MS-polymer.
