Design
If for the sensational four-door Vesta at AvtoVAZ they rushed in and developed an original design, then for the Xray they didn’t try so hard and “borrowed” the B0 platform from their partner Renault Sandero. Even before the start of sales of the hatchback, there were rumors that the “Frenchman” would have to share not only the chassis, but also the body, but the body of the VAZ new product still has its own, and the platform is improved - especially for the conditions of our country.
Adaptation to Russian conditions
Already after the first trip to the Xray, you are convinced that this is nothing more than a small workhorse, which definitely beats the “common platform” Sandero in price and is not afraid of our bad roads, even despite the lack of all-wheel drive. Unfortunately, the appearance of an all-wheel drive transmission is not expected, since to implement it in the B0 “trolley” the manufacturer would be forced to completely remake the rear suspension, as is the case with the Duster, since the elastic beam, gearbox and driveshaft do not fit well, and this is fraught with high costs for a car plant. The declared ground clearance is 195 mm, but in fact it is approximately 185 mm, which, in principle, is quite normal for operation in difficult Russian conditions. It is also good news that the bottom of the car is flat - there are no protruding muffler pipes visible, the engine compartment is reliably protected by iron, and the sills are located at the optimal height, so the body is not so easily damaged on a country dirt road or a snowy road.
Salon
The quality of finishing here is at a high level. The plastic is hard, but fits well and does not creak. The covers are made of high-quality fabric with leatherette inserts. The steering wheel is thickened for a comfortable grip and covered with a leatherette cover.
The dashboard, made in a futuristic design, is compact and informative. The large display makes it easy to read information, and the air conditioner control panel is simple and clear.
The front seats have a wide range of adjustment, allowing you to sit comfortably no matter your height. However, if tall passengers are sitting in front, there will not be enough space in the back due to the backrests of the seats.
The sound insulation of the engine compartment is good, but when driving on crushed stone, the wheel arches transmit the impacts of stones.
Interior dimensions
The interior of the Lada X Ray, like the trunk, is small for a crossover, but this is due to the size of the body. The maximum height of the cabin (from floor to ceiling in the middle part) is 1220 mm, its width at shoulder level is the same along the entire length - 1330 mm.
The front seat cushions are located at a height of 180 mm from the floor, the rear sofa – 260 mm. The distance between the backs of the front and rear seats is from 600 to 815 mm.
The front seats have enough room for a comfortable posture, but when moving them back, second-row passengers are forced to find an acceptable position for their legs.
All doors open wide enough, and the rear door openings are wide enough for loading onto the sofa and transporting large cargo.
The level of the “window sills” of the side windows of the Lada X Ray is too high, which visually adds strength and consistency to the body, but reduces side visibility.
The top-end XRay configuration has a multimedia system in the cabin with a 7-inch diagonal color display, which, given its diagonal size, is not loaded enough with information and contains, apart from the fuel level, only one of the displayed parameters.
Comfort and safety
The basic equipment of the car includes an expanded range of security systems. Each Lada X Rey has two airbags, front seat belts with a pre-tensioning mechanism and a load limiter. For the safety of children, the car is equipped with ISOFIX child seat anchors and an automatic door closing function while driving.

- Dastun mi-DO. The car belongs to the class of tall hatchbacks and has an interesting appearance. Datsun is assembled in Tolyatti, the car has already won appreciation in Russia. The interior is well suited for Russian conditions, democratic, but tasteful. Ground clearance of 160 mm is enough to overcome unpleasant places. There is one engine - 1.6 liters, 82 hp, manual or automatic. The cheapest version costs only 462,000 rubles, which is a serious claim to leadership. Dastun also competes with Lada Vesta.
- Suzuki SX-4 Classic. This is already a full-fledged crossover, however, its cost is higher, it starts from 785,000 rubles. The SX-4 Classic has excellent technical parameters and excellent cross-country ability. This car will be the best buy in its class. The 1.6 liter petrol engine produces 112 hp. The technical part has surprisingly high endurance even in difficult Russian conditions. The transmission can be either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. However, it is not worth driving it into serious off-road conditions.
Engines
There is no information yet about the technical characteristics of the Lada X Ray, but there is information that the engine range will consist of a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 114 horsepower, as well as a 5-speed manual transmission. There may be other options in the future.
Initially, it was planned to begin production of cars at the end of 2015 - beginning of 2016, however, according to new data, the Lada Xray model will begin mass production in October next year. Production will be established at the enterprise's facilities in Tolyatti and Kazakhstan.

1. Body . The contours, like various embossings, are good only in an aesthetic sense, but our brother first admires them, and then spits, and together with the straighteners, when they have to repair their damage. Body sills do not have protection - the result is corrosion from the effects of gravel and salt, which our roads are often strewn with, and in abundance. The hood has a short rod for fixing the upper position, which is good for models in short skirts to tempt our brother, but our brother has to climb under the hood in a well-known doggy position;
2. Trunk . Its volume seems to be decent, it can take a couple of bags of potatoes, but in the upper part it has a narrowed opening due to the lanterns. And because of this, the rear window has limited visibility when looking in the interior mirror;
3. Salon . It is only good for those sitting in front. But for the rear passengers, especially the outer ones, at least get out through the windows, or spread out on the doors to move your knees somewhere to the side. And one cup holder for three is not the case like Vysotsky’s: it was invented for three, supposedly, for a reason.
The list of both advantages and disadvantages can certainly be supplemented, but the main thing is that the shortcomings are promptly eliminated by the manufacturer, otherwise their critical mass may affect the demand from our brother.
Dimensions of the car, including wheelbase
As for its length, if you take a measurement from the extreme points of the Lada xRay bumpers, the tape measure will show 416.4 cm. The Renault Sandero has exactly the same dimensions, which is not surprising, since they are made on the same platform.
Regarding the width, it is measured at the extreme points of the right and left mirrors that provide rear visibility, and it is equal to 198.3 cm. Moreover, if you fold the mirrors, then the wheel arches will become the extreme points, and the width of the body will become 176.4 cm.
By the way, about mirrors. Many Lada X-Ray owners, especially those who have previously driven a Renault Sandero, complain that the mirrors on our SUV, let’s say, do not provide sufficient rear view due to their small size.
