Possible malfunctions of the EUR
It happens that after installation the EUR does not work at all or intermittently.
This can be caused by various reasons, among which two most often stand out:
- Speed sensor failure. The electric power steering operates in connection with the speed sensor. At high speeds, the extra force from the mechanism is reduced to give you more control. If data from the sensor stops flowing, the EUR will automatically turn off. The problem is solved by replacing the sensor.
- Incorrectly installed engine crankcase. If there is a violation in the installation of the engine crankcase (casing), vibrations from the engine will be transmitted to the amplifier. It will begin to buzz, and in some cases even turn off.

Installation instructions
This manual is intended for those who have minimal skills in working with tools and vehicle systems. It is made as accessible as possible to everyone. But if you doubt your skills and knowledge, it is better to contact a car service.
Required tools and materials
First of all, you will need the EUR itself. Please note its serial number. The last two digits indicate the type and place of production.
So, 00 is a geared amplifier, produced in Makhachkala and has received complaints from drivers. With the numbers 04 - Korean, installed on Grants and Kalinas, a good amplifier, can be found in stores, but there are few of them on sale. Well, 02 - Kaluga, gearless type, also has good reviews.
To connect, you will need common tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and an angle grinder.
Installation process
First, you will need to completely remove elements such as the airbag, steering wheel, switches, ignition switch, and finally the steering column along with the bracket and cardan.
Then do everything as follows:
- Taking the old bracket-plate, knock out the bolts from it. Then cut off about 30 mm from the top (where 2 bolts are welded and there are 3 holes).
- Try the plate on the EUR, if the holes do not match (most likely this will happen), drill them.
- Now you need to attach the gimbal to the amplifier.
- You need to put washers under the bracket at the point of attachment to the amplifier. They can be of different thicknesses and have a direct impact on future steering adjustments.
- Now you can attach the EUR. Insert the cardan onto the rack.
After all this you need to connect the wiring. Below is the connection diagram.

This amplifier is installed instead of the standard one, as well as on vehicles not equipped with electric power steering (EPS) from the factory.
Important information for ordering! If you purchase an EUR to replace your factory one that has failed for some reason, then in this case you do not need to purchase additional components!

Removal and installation of electromechanical power steering Lada Granta
Electric power steering reduces steering effort, making driving easier. The basis of the electric booster is a brushless electric motor with a gearbox located under the steering casing. A worm is installed on the motor shaft, which meshes with a plastic gear mounted on the steering shaft. The operation of the electric booster is coordinated by an electronic control unit that changes the voltage supplied to the electric motor based on information received from sensors of vehicle speed, crankshaft speed and the amount of torque on the steering shaft. The electric motor turns the steering column shaft through a gearbox with a certain torque.
The control unit provides sufficient steering information in all vehicle driving modes. When the car is stationary, the torque on the shaft created by the electric amplifier is maximum; as the vehicle speed increases, the “assistance” of the amplifier decreases and the steering wheel becomes “heavier.” If the electric booster fails, the car retains full controllability, while the steering wheel becomes somewhat “heavier” than on a car without an electric booster. since an additional load appears in the form of a freely rotating electric motor rotor

Assignment of EUR contacts
According to fragments of the diagram from the document “ELECTRICAL CONNECTION DIAGRAMS OF LADA GRANTA CARS”, the following contacts of connectors X1 and X2 of the EUR are used:
X1-1 - power +12V. Connect to the positive terminal of the battery through a 50A fuse; X1-2 - power mass of the electric power steering. Connects to the ground point of the body EUR;
X2-1 - signal +12V. Used to power control circuits. Connects to pin 56 of the fuse block; X2-2 - ECU tachometer signal output (X2-F4); X2-3 - ECU speed sensor output (X2-E3); X2-4 - instrument panel ESD malfunction lamp (pin No. 20 of the instrument panel connector); X2-5 — K-line output for connection to the OBDII diagnostic block (pin No. 7); X2-6 - L-line output. It is not used in the circuit, but it may be present in the harness - just pull out the terminal with the wire from the connector so as not to get tangled. By closing the 6th contact to ground or the 7th contact, the EUR diagnostics is started. The error code is generated by the number and duration of flashes of the dashboard ESD malfunction lamp; X2-7 - signal mass of the electric power steering unit. According to the diagram, it is connected to the S22 twist, which is connected to the car body, but I could not find the connection point, so it was connected separately to the center console.

MECHANISM DEVICE
The EUR can have a device with several layout options:
- The mechanism has a steering rack that perceives force.
- The electric motor transmits force to the steering shaft.
Most often, cars use electric power steering with a caterpillar track. There is a parallel drive mechanism design that uses two gears. The classic railroad design includes an electric motor, a manual transmission, and an on-board computer that controls everything. Technically, the device combines mechanical and electrical parts into a single whole. The operating principle of electric power steering is based on the operation of an asynchronous electric motor.
Steering rack adjustment
The unit knocks for various reasons. In fact, this is a real disease of the control mechanism, inherited from the Lada Kalina, since the components are identical on these cars. You can adjust the rack yourself.
To do this you will need a minimum of tools:
- steering rack calibration key;
- socket heads for 10 and 13;
- shaped screwdriver.
To tighten the slats, you can use two methods. The first involves using a special key that can be inserted into the gap of the arch on the left side. The second method is more labor-intensive and is suitable if it is not possible to stick your hand into the gap. To do this, you will need to dismantle the battery and its platform; this is the only way to get to the nut for tightening the gearbox. The first method is simple, so it’s better to consider the second option.
To do this, you need to disconnect the battery terminals and remove it, and then remove the platform under it. Now you can get to the nut located on the inside of the gearbox housing. You can buy a combination wrench for tightening, on the one hand - for tightening the rack, on the other - for tensioning the timing belt.
To tighten the nut, turn it clockwise.
