Electronic gas pedal on a Priora car - faults and advantages

The appearance of electronic gas pedals on a car at one time created a sensation: now the formation of the fuel-air mixture almost entirely falls on the electronic control system! The electronic gas pedal on the Priora car has become something new: low price, simplicity of design and progress have done their job. If everyone is accustomed to a mechanical throttle valve drive (with a cable), the new “version” of the accelerator pedal immediately found its fans. This design was called “E-gas”. The Priora was not installed on the car right away - only in January 2011. The price of the gas pedal is from 1000 to 1500 rubles. The design of the E-gas Priora is not so simple as to simply replace the mechanism for opening/closing the throttle valve; for the most part, repairs or replacements are operations in which “communication” with the electronic control unit is indispensable. In case of malfunctions: the E-gas part has shortcomings, it becomes dull, the speed fluctuates - read the article and find out in detail about this!

Electronic gas pedal on the Lada Priora - looks like this

What is this node for?

The Priora throttle valve is an element of the fuel system of internal combustion engines with fuel injection. It acts as a valve that supplies air from the air filter to the intake manifold. When the damper is in the open position, air is supplied completely, and the pressure in the manifold and in the atmosphere becomes the same. If it is closed, a vacuum is created.

On Priora, the throttle valve is controlled in two ways: electrical and mechanical.

Causes of pollution

The causes of clogging of the remote control are most often exhaust crankcase gases, which carry particles of burnt oil and soot. Small crankcase ventilation is connected directly to the throttle corrugation. The air entering the cylinders mixes with crankcase gases and, passing through the diaphragm, clogs it.

The throttle can also become clogged due to a poor-quality air filter or its loose fit, then dust particles can pass through the filter and clog not only the remote control, but also cause significant harm to the engine.

Mechanical drive

The first models came with a power cord. When the accelerator pedal is depressed, force is transmitted mechanically.

The “Priority” throttle body also combines a position sensor for this element of the intake system and an idle speed regulator, which sets the crankshaft speed when closing the throttle valve, as well as when starting the engine and when connecting additional electrical equipment: headlights, air conditioning, interior heating motor. It is driven by an electric motor. This forces air through the valve, bypassing the damper.

In addition, the housing is part of the crankcase cooling and ventilation system. The Priora throttle body with 16 valves differs from the automobile one with 8 valves by an additional hole around the perimeter of the body on the side of the intake manifold.

Electric drive

Since 2011, cars produced by VAZ began to be equipped with an electronic accelerator pedal, which led to a change in the design of the Priora throttle valve.

The mechanism is now driven by an electric motor connected through a gearbox. The idle speed control is excluded as it is not needed. The movement is controlled using an on-board computer, which, based on the readings of the throttle position sensor, adjusts the fuel mixture as much as possible. The opening size began to depend not only on the accelerator, but also on the clutch and brake pedals. The shock absorber returns to its original position using a return mechanism consisting of a spring.

Electronic driving allows you to maintain constant engine speed when driving with different loads, even without driver intervention.

Common types of TPS failures

If a car has a film-resistive damper position sensor, its malfunctions are often associated with wear of the moving contact or fixed track.

During operation, the possibility of oxidation of the contacts, damage to the cores or insulation of the power wires is also not excluded. Over time, the elasticity of the spring is lost, which ultimately leads to its sticking.

Not only contact, but also non-contact sensors fail, but their service life is much longer, and they do not have the feature of supplying incorrect data.

If the contactless TPS fails, then it simply stops sending readings to the ECU, as a result of which the “CHECK” engine error will certainly be displayed.

This is interesting! The cause of failure of contactless sensors is a power outage or the occurrence of a short circuit current. Such devices, like film-resistive ones, cannot be repaired, so they need to be replaced.

Node location

When you open the Priora's hood, you will not see the throttle valve. It is located under a plastic cover covering the top of the engine. In addition to aesthetic value, it serves as protection against heating of the valve cover.

After removing the cover, the air supply system appears. This is a large rubber tube connected to the air filter housing on one side and to the intake manifold on the other. A throttle valve assembly is installed between them. It looks like a duralumin insert with a black sectored plastic wing, to which the control cable is attached (in the case of a mechanical drive).

Maintenance frequency

Practice shows that accelerator cleaning should be carried out at intervals of 40-60 thousand kilometers. The time at which such a need arises can be determined by the following criteria:

  1. Unsustainable trade turnover.
  2. Long return to idle mode when releasing the accelerator pedal.
  3. Difficulty starting the engine after a long period of inactivity. Even when it's hot.
  4. There is a gasoline smell in the exhaust, indicating that the mixture is too rich.

The manufacturer recommends cleaning every 50 thousand km. Owners of the Priora car call different numbers on thematic forums. Some people do not use this procedure for the entire life of the machine. Much depends on the operating conditions - the region, the timeliness of replacing the air filter.

Algorithm

  • We select the location where the repairs are expected to be carried out;
  • We squeeze the handbrake, turn on neutral;
  • Remove the polymer casing from the engine;
  • Unscrew the plug in the expansion tank;
  • Loosen the air pipe clamps a couple of turns, then carefully remove it;
  • At the same time, we carry out visual diagnostics for the presence of defects and traces of oil or fuel. If there are any, and they will be, since it cannot be otherwise, we clean the forced ventilation duct;
  • Loosen the clamps and remove the damper heating pipes. Cover them with a rag to keep the inside clean;
  • We also disconnect the fuel tank ventilation hose;
  • Unscrew the bolt and remove the throttle cable;
  • We remove the damper itself;
  • Wash thoroughly in the liquid that you previously bought. We clear all channels. After unscrewing the two bolts, remove the idle speed sensor, which also needs cleaning. We look at the condition of the rod and carry out visual diagnostics. We are looking for flaws.
  • Replace the throttle gasket;
  • We begin the installation in strictly reverse order. Without losing or dropping anything into the inside of the collector.

Here, in fact, this concludes the cleaning of the throttle valve on the Priora. Check and test your unit at different speeds. Believe me, the effect will be heard immediately after starting the engine. The evenness and smoothness of idling will delight you.

The accelerator pedal will become instantly sensitive

. Then you can go onto the highway and drive at a speed of 90-100 km/h. for seaming. It is done. Enjoy your ride until the next maintenance or replacement. Expect a period of about 25,000-30,000 km. mileage The instruction manual states 50,000, this is too exaggerated, how long they do not take care of it.

It often happens that the car engine runs intermittently, despite the fact that the on-board computer does not generate errors. The fuel supply pressure is normal, the sensors are intact, and the idle speed jumps from 550 to 1100. If a similar problem occurs on the Priora, then the reason may be hidden in a malfunction of the throttle valve.

How to clean the throttle body yourself

Cleaning the shock absorber is one of the simple procedures that you can do yourself. The time lasts no more than an hour.

Work is carried out on a cooled engine. Before starting work, you need to have wrenches, a Phillips and flat head screwdriver, and carburetor cleaner ready. To clean the Lada Priora throttle valve, the following operations must be carried out:

  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
  3. Remove the plastic engine cover. To do this, unscrew the oil filler cap. Remove the 4 rubber plugs around the perimeter of the case. Then use a screwdriver to unscrew the adsorber valve and remove the wires to the side. After removing the cover, it is necessary to replace the oil filler plug to prevent dirt from entering the engine.
  4. Disconnect the throttle sensor and Priora idle speed control connectors.
  5. Disconnect the coolant hoses that heat the shock absorber when the engine is running. The coolant must be partially drained before loosening the clamps. Not completely, but just below the throttle level. To do this, open the cap of the expansion tank and, placing a flat container under the radiator, unscrew the radiator cap.
  6. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation pipes.
  7. Loosen the clamp and remove the air tube.

Before cleaning the part, the sensors must also be removed from the housing. This should only be done for a motorized unit. As for the electronic gas damper, a control unit is attached to its body, which does not need to be removed. Also, when flushing the carburetor with cleaner, make sure that the cleaning agent does not get into the control unit.

Cleaning

Be sure to carry out all work only on a cooled engine, for your own safety.

Tools we will need:

  • Standard car key set;
  • Flat and Phillips head screwdrivers;
  • You choose the cleaning agent yourself. I won’t advise you, because there are a lot of them now and almost all of them help.

Important addition

It is not recommended to change the position of the Priora throttle valve with electronic gas when cleaning the interior, as this may damage the drive gears. On the other hand, the mechanical damper can be rotated behind the actuator, allowing full access to the inside. It is also possible to detach the flap from the pin. Fastened with two bolts. However, you need to know how hard to return. If self-unscrewing occurs after assembly, the bolts will fall into the engine combustion chambers. To prevent this from happening, after completing the work it is necessary to drive 500 km, disassemble the unit again and tighten the shock absorber mounts.

After assembly, do not forget to add coolant to the operating level.

Unstable idle, speed jump from 500 to 1000. I took it for diagnostics, there were no errors and the revs were jumping, I turned it down, reset all the settings, I restarted everything normally, but a month later again the same garbage was surfing the Internet and I found

turn off the ignition (turn off the engine) after all warm-ups for at least 10 seconds. 1 After making sure that the accelerator pedal is released, turn on the ignition (the key is in the ON position, do not start the engine) and wait 3 seconds. 2. Within 5 seconds, quickly press (fully!) and release the accelerator pedal 5 times. 3. After 7 seconds, fully depress and hold the accelerator pedal until the yellow CHECK ENGINE indicator starts flashing(

10 sec) and does not light constantly (

20 seconds). 4. 3 seconds after the lamp is constantly on, release the accelerator pedal. 5. Start the engine (if it goes out, restart) and wait 20 seconds. 6. Increase the speed 2-3 times and make sure the engine is idling again. Steps 1-5 are performed with the ignition on and the engine off. Step 6 - with the engine running. I got it right the third time, the circles are normal and I don’t need to go for diagnostics

The throttle assembly on Lada Priora cars is no different in design from previous VAZ models, except that the difference from 8-valve ones will be in favor of a larger internal diameter and that’s all.

Such problems often occur when all the sensors are fine, the rack pressure is good, the ignition system is fine, but the engine is faulty, the speed may fluctuate, get stuck in certain places, etc. D

If similar problems are likely to occur with your Priora, you can try removing the throttle body and cleaning it. Of course, such cleaning is possible without removal, but it is even more reliable with complete disassembly.

To remove the throttle valve on a Priora we will need the following tool:

  1. Phillips screwdriver and flat blade screwdriver
  2. Pliers
  3. 13mm wrench, it is most convenient to use a ratchet and socket
  4. Extension

Adjusting the electronic gas pedal

Adjusting the E-gas pedal of Priora, Kalina

Setting up the gas pedal on Kalina and Priora begins with its dismantling. After this, you need to loosen the 4 T20 star screws in the E-gas cover; it is not necessary to remove the cover. The screws are located in oval holes, so to adjust, it will be enough to move the pedal along with the bolts.

Moving the cap clockwise will make the gas more sensitive. The car will drive faster, but fuel consumption will increase slightly. By moving it counterclockwise, you will achieve lower consumption and smoother acceleration.

After adjustment, the cover must be fixed in the selected position and the bolts screwed back in. You can see in more detail how the electronic gas pedal is adjusted by watching the video:

Removing and installing the throttle on a Priora

So, to remove the throttle body, you must first disconnect the terminal from the battery and then use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the clamp screws on the air cleaner tube on both sides.

Alternatively, the thin tube that fits into the main tube can be loosened and removed from the valve cover.

Now you can finally remove the pipe, since nothing else is holding it back.

Next, we need to unscrew the three screws that secure the pipes to the accelerator from above, which is clearly visible in the photo below.

And one more - the fourth one, which is located below.

Now gently pull them to the side and remove them. If you have difficulty performing this step, you can use pliers to turn the tubes up and down, as clearly shown in the photo below.

Next we need to disconnect the two blocks with power cables from the throttle position sensor, as well as the idle air controller. Look at the latches on these connectors first to ensure you don't damage anything when unplugging them.

Then, using a ratchet paired with an extension and a 13mm socket, unscrew the two throttle body mounting nuts.

Now let's remove the throttle as it no longer holds it.

To be able to remove it from the engine compartment, you need to get rid of the accelerator control cable by first removing the metal retainer:

Replacing the throttle position sensor (Priora)

The removal and installation procedure is quite simple. All you need is a screwdriver.

The device for determining the position of the valve is located directly on the throttle assembly and is secured with just two bolts.

  1. The first thing you need to do is disconnect the contact wires from the product body. The plug is held in place by a small plastic clip that must be released when removed. Before carrying out work, do not forget to turn off the power to the on-board network in the car, first disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery.

Do-it-yourself throttle cleaning on Priora

Of course, no special skills are required to perform this repair. The only thing you need to have on hand is a quality carburetor cleaner, which can be found at almost any auto store.

To do this job as efficiently as possible, we first disassemble the DPS and MAC. Thoroughly clean the locations where these sensors are installed, as well as the idle speed control needle (do not apply a lot of cleaner to the control, just clean the needle). Additionally, the entire inside of the throttle body needs to be cleaned very well with the product.

After solving this problem, you can install all the sensors in place and install the throttle valve on the car.
