How to install American ones on a VAZ 2114 with your own hands

Is American legal?

In accordance with the amendments made to the current traffic regulations and which came into force back in 2006, the requirements for lighting devices installed on vehicles have become noticeably more stringent.
From that moment on, representatives of the State Traffic Inspectorate were able to fine everyone who drives cars with side lights that do not meet current GOSTs.

Of course, for the most part, inspectors do not pay attention to non-standard headlights. However, it is worth understanding that anyone who makes the lights in question on their car may find themselves subject to administrative liability.

The offense is qualified under Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offences. It is very clearly written here that driving a vehicle equipped with dimensions whose color and operating mode contradicts the requirements is prohibited. The standards are given in the “Basic Provisions”, on the basis of which machines are approved for operation.

The Administrative Code provides for the following sanctions for violation:

  • fine up to 2,500 rubles;
  • deprivation of rights for 6-12 months;
  • confiscation of illegal equipment.

The last punishment looks somewhat dubious, because hardly anyone would dare to remove the headlights, but, nevertheless, the remaining punishments are quite real. Therefore, we recommend that you think carefully: do you need an American?

Useful video

You can get additional information on installing dimensions in turn signals from the video below:

I've wanted American style dimensions for a long time, they look great in the Priora headlight. Found 3 options.

Option one: buy sockets from the taillight for a double-filament lamp. At the same time the simplest and most difficult way. The problem is the cartridges - I haven’t seen them on sale anywhere, there are no VAZ showdowns, there are no friends with broken headlights either. This method is not for me, unfortunately.

Second option: connect via a five-pin relay. It was according to the diagram below that I made my dimensions. But this is the wrong scheme)

The problems are: 1. The turn signals do not work synchronously - first the front, then the wing and rear, and so on; 2. The signal to the turn signals from the immobilizer does not pass through - the car winks with its “butt” and wing when you open/close it, and this is very annoying; 3. The blinking speed of turn signals and emergency lights has increased.

6 — clearance 8 — turn signal 3 — weight

Wire from the relay to the lamp to the turn signal wire in the chip. Ground wire from the relay to the ground wire from the braid (or directly to the body).

I accidentally twisted the wire of the side lamp on the right headlight

I also swapped the bulbs in the headlights. How to do it - saw off the excess and that’s it. Just don’t do this at nine o’clock in the evening, in the cold, tired, with numb hands, without a proper knife.

The essence of the rework

If you don’t care, then we’ll tell you in more detail how to modernize the turn signals of a classic VAZ car so that they also serve as dimensions. It is worth noting that this standard is available in only one country in the world - the United States.

The principle of operation of the circuit is as follows - the lights are constantly on like dimensions. However, when the driver intends to turn, one of them begins to flash. The circuit itself is simple - guided by it, changes will be made by anyone who has at least a basic understanding of electromechanics.
