  2. The suspension also suffers from too stiff springs, as this leads to increased loads on it;
  3. Corrosion is inevitable when using aluminum spacers;
  4. By increasing the ground clearance of the VAZ 2110, car owners risk the stability of the car while driving. The fact is that the center of gravity shifts, the car can rock, and in some cases it can even roll over. Therefore, experts strongly recommend not increasing the ground clearance by more than 5 cm. That is, the maximum limit should be no more than 170 mm!

How to Correctly Install Spacers on a VAZ 2110

In the case of rear wing wheels with full and sometimes partial load, we are ready to lift the rear of the car. There are several methods. The first is to replace sagging standard springs with similar or reinforced ones. But there is a second option, to put gaskets under the springs.

In this case, the length of the shock absorber structure practically increases, the connecting dimensions are maintained, that is, the spring spacer unit can be installed in a normal place in the car. The position of the rear brake pressure regulator needs to be adjusted. it is necessary to adjust the longitudinal inclination angle of the front wheels rotation axis (roller). If the first two parameters can be adjusted independently, the wheel should be set to 100, because this is practically the geometry of the wheel and without special ones.

To install the rear spring spacers, we hang up the rear of the car. With a 19 socket we remove the lower shock lug bolt while holding the nut from turning with a wrench of the same size. Remove the bolt. Please note that the struts are mirror symmetrical and can be installed on either side of the car.

The side of the spacer where the distance from the edge to the mounting bolt hole is greater (shown in the photo below) should be installed in the center of the car. To further determine which spacer to install, it is necessary to determine the shock absorber spacer taking into account the length of the building. Therefore, if the spacer is installed correctly, it is necessary that a line through the centers of the spacer holes is secured to the support and the bottom end of the shock is close to vertical and aligned with the shock nipple. the shock absorber is attached to the spacer. Insert the lip gasket between the beam eyes and insert the bolt. We attach the nut to the bolt and tighten it to a torque of 7085 Nm. In this position, the spacer on the rear of the vehicle can be raised to the selected height.

To select the middle position during installation (see photo), you need to change the right and left spacers. We chose the bottom position. Insert the bolt into the spacer holes and shock absorber bushing. Tighten the nut to the bolt. Similarly, install a spacer for another shock absorber, of course, the selected height must correspond to the first case.

We tighten the nuts to secure the lower ends of the shock absorbers to the spacers in the position of the car on wheels with a torque of 7085 Nm. To properly install the pressure regulator, press the rear of the machine with a force of 4050 kgf. And move the bracket with a screwdriver so that the gap between the arm and the spring arm is within 2.02.1mm.

Check the gap using a drill or a piece of wire of the appropriate diameter, also this gap corresponds to a coin with two rubles, you can also use it. After setup, we conduct a road test. An observer outside the vehicle must fix the rear wheels, which should arrive a little later than the front ones, with hard braking at a speed of 3040 km/h. With very late locking we reduce the gap, and with the previous one (before locking the front wheels) we increase it by an indispensable check using the method mentioned above. To adjust the headlights, we place the equipped vehicle (with spare tire, tools and full fuel tank) on a flat horizontal platform 5 meters from a light wall of a building, garage, etc.

We check and adjust tire pressure on all wheels, and place an assistant in the driver's seat or load 75 kg. Mark the screen as shown (with all intersection points of lane 1 with lines A and B at the height of the center of the headlights). Turn on the low beam and cover the right headlight with a piece of cardboard. By turning the adjustment screws of the left headlight, we get that the upper horizontal boundary of the light spot on the display coincides with line 2, and the intersection point of the horizontal and inclined boundaries (E) with line A. Adjust the light beam of the right headlight in the same way.

In this note, we will not reduce, but increase the ground clearance on the VAZ 2112, which is probably allowed to be made using various methods. The first option is a device with a specific gasket. In designated shopping centers you can find supports that are equipped with what are called spacers; they are placed between the pillar support and the body. The components are made of polyurethane, aluminum and plastic. Polyurethane spacers compress on uneven surfaces, while duralumin ones cause corrosion processes.

As if it touches the plastic spacers, then there seem to be practically no disadvantages found so far. Clearance is clearance, but the tires in any case must be good, especially in winter.

It’s as if we won’t skimp and order really high-quality winter tires. Springs have a specific effect on the springs. If the machine often carries a heavy load, then we install class 'A' springs. But here it is important not to overdo it, since if the springs become very hard, then the springs will not be able to work fully, which means you need to forget about ride comfort. Although specialists have no chance of coming to an unambiguous view on the basis of its installation. Some people are convinced that this is the best way to raise the rear wheel of a car if the springs have sagged, but others don’t see anything good in the “house” apparatus. Keep in mind that if you increase the ground clearance by more than 5 cm, the car will lose survivability on the road and excessive wear of the suspension parts will begin.

As it turned out, as the center of gravity increases and when moving, the tilt of the body increases and it begins to rock. In not very favorable conditions, a coup has the potential to occur. In order not to assume such a sad end, we will try to properly organize the pendant. It is better to increase the elasticity of the suspension, change the regular tires to low-profile ones. VAZ-2110 is a Russian sedan car, one of the most popular models of the 1990s-2000s in Russia. The car was developed in 1994 and is an independent project of AvtoVAZ. The car was equipped with front-wheel drive, and was considered one of the best-selling modifications of the “ten” family, which also includes a five-door hatchback and station wagon.

The Volzhsky Automobile Plant car was produced from 1995 to 2007. Despite this, the VAZ-2110 was still produced in Ukraine, under the Bogdan brand. Production of the model was finally completed in 2014.

The VAZ-2110 on the Russian market was available with 1.5 and 1.6 liter gasoline engines. Their power ranges from 73-90 horsepower, depending on boost. In addition, AvtoVAZ also produced a small-scale version with a volume of 1.8 liters and a capacity of 98 horsepower. And finally, it was possible to order a VAZ-2110 with a two-liter 150-horsepower engine.

All you need for this operation are the spacers themselves for the rear springs for the VAZ 2110, a small set of tools and a little accuracy.

Let's look at the whole operation, breaking it down into 16 stages:

  1. First of all, using available tools, you need to hang up the rear part of your VAZ 2110 and remove the rear wheels;
  2. Next, taking a 19mm wrench, you need to unscrew the bolt that secures the shock absorber from below. To prevent the bolt from turning, securely fix the nut with another suitable wrench.
  3. Remove the bolt.
  4. We take one of the spacers. Which one is not important, since they are symmetrical and equally suitable for any side of the VAZ 2110.
  5. We orient the spacer with the larger side facing longitudinally in relation to the length of the car.
  6. The spacer has three holes that connect it to the end of the shock absorber. You need to select one of the holes depending on what lifting height of the VAZ 2110 you need.
  7. Remember which hole you chose, you will need to select a similar hole on the other spacer.
  8. We mark the longitudinal axis of the shock absorber and mentally draw an imaginary line through the centers of the holes with which the spacer is attached to the bottom of the shock absorber and the beam. This line must be vertical.
  9. Observing all of the above, you need to put a spacer on the eyes available in the beam.
  10. Between these same eyes we place a spacer sleeve.
  11. We fasten everything with the appropriate bolt.
  12. Tighten the nut. To do this, you should use a torque wrench. It will allow you to maintain the optimal, in this case, force - about 80 Nm.
  13. Next, the bolt is also inserted into the shock absorber bushing. Tightens his nut. The recommended force is the same as in the first case - about 80 Nm.
  14. Next, we proceed to install the pressure regulator. To do this, you need to press on the car trunk with a force of about 45 kgf.
  15. After this, loosen the pressure regulator bolt connecting it to the regulator drive lever.
  16. Using a suitable screwdriver, move the lever bracket until the gap between the lever and its spring is about 2.05 mm. Use a wire of suitable thickness to check the distance.

For a car with passengers and a payload of 320 kg (4 people) in the cabin and 40 kg of cargo in the trunk, the wheel alignment angles must be within the following limits:

It has excellent directional stability at high speeds. Now the mileage is 100 thousand kilometers, fuel consumption is about 10 liters maximum - in the urban cycle. The sedan is quite reliable and comfortable; there is enough space in the cabin for four tall passengers. The quality of materials is a solid C grade. The velor seats are comfortable, and by the way, the front seats are heated. Ground clearance of 170 mm is enough for Russian roads, as well as light off-road conditions. So, it’s still worth driving for another three years, and then selling ten.

To answer this question, tests were carried out in the wind tunnel of the Dmitrov test site, in which three cars participated: the VAZ 2110 sedan, the VAZ 2111 station wagon and the VAZ 2112 hatchback.

In order for the test results to be as accurate as possible, it was decided to compare different types of car bodies of the same “tenth” family (the design is made in the same style). In addition, all tested cars had the same equipment (stamped steel wheels, mud flaps, etc.).

One of the important parameters of a wind tunnel is the aerodynamic drag coefficient Cx. This is a dimensionless quantity that reflects the ratio of the force of air resistance to the movement of the car to the force of resistance to the movement of the cylinder. The lower the Cx, the better the aerodynamics of the car. For modern cars Cx < 0.3.

Interestingly, at the time of designing the station wagon, AvtoVAZ designers could have chosen a more successful version of the rear spoiler in the form of a deflector that cuts off some of the air from the roof to the trunk door. This deflector reduced the vacuum zone, and the rear window became less dirty. Almost the same deflector can be seen on the Volvo V70. Why their choice fell on the spoiler option, which was more inferior in terms of parameters, remains a mystery.

Thanks to the greater “windage” of the sidewalls, the station wagon “holds the road” better at high speeds than the sedan and hatchback. This is clearly visible from the low value of the turning moment Mz in the VAZ-2111.

good results. Cx VAZ 2112 turned out to be equal to 0.335, which is slightly less than that of the sedan. The secret to success is the tilt of the hatchback rear window. It is installed at a much greater angle, so the air flows out of the machine evenly and without interruption. It is worth noting that if you set the hatchback rear wiper to a vertical position, the Cx value will be slightly reduced.

The turning torque of a hatchback is largely dependent on the angle of the rear window. If the rear window has an angle close to that of a station wagon, then the drag of such a car will be greater than that of a sedan. An example is the VW Golf IV. And if the glass of the hatchback's fifth door is installed at an angle, like that of the VAZ 2112, then the streamlining will be the same as that of a sedan, or better.
